  1. Yes, it is - not technically but logically! TVnext handles live TV streams from many different origins - but always live streams. And ONLY live streams! The current live TV implementation and many M3U based stream sources are sometimes mixing up VOD streams and live streams, even though these are fundamentally different. Delivering TVnext without support for static (non-live) streams would have been a degradation of the live TV feature (albeit not being live streams), so a solution was required to handle those kinds of streams, in order to make TVnext acceptable for everybody. So we had developed the WebStreams plugin pretty early to close this gap. All participants of the TVnext beta have seen it already. The WebStreams plugin is not just a stop-gap solution for a "missing" feature in TVnext - it is much more: It is the result of completely rethinking the way how VOD content ought to be represented in Emby - which means: Movies, tv show episodes, videos, and other streams do not show up in Emby as a kind of "fake TV channel" with fake guide entries pretending that it would be a continuous broadcast of the same program being repeated 24/7 - not anymore! Instead, with the WebStreams plugin, that kind of content is shown in separate libraries just like your local content and enriched with metadata in the same way! The WebStreams plugin is an essential step towards TVnext and an important prerequisite which had always been planned to be published before proceeding with TVnext.

  2. A new plugin is in the Emby plugin catalog for Emby Premiere users, largely developed by @softworkz. This plugin requires Emby Server version 4.9.1.27+, so unless you're running that, you will not see it. WebStreams This is designed to be a better version of the IPTV plugin. You can now import both single streams as well as M3U lists into Emby Server. Eventually we may also add RSS support and merge the podcasts plugin into this. Beyond RSS, there is also the potential to support other formats if there's enough demand for them. Features Import both single streams and M3U lists into Emby Server TV episodes within M3U are displayed with Series and Season hierarchies, just like regular libraries (make sure to select the appropriate content type when adding a source) Rich metadata support using MovieDb and TVDB (make sure to select the appropriate content type when adding a source) Ability to filter what gets imported Known Issues We need to add more visibility into the server's background refresh queue. You can see the progress of it on the webstreams config page. Currently if you restart the server in the middle of this, then you will need to run the refresh channels scheduled task.

  3. Hi, I am using the Android app version 3.4.24 and like that you can click on on the director's portrait and see a list of all their movies in my library. What I don't like is that the director is listed last in the cast and crew so you have to scroll all the way to the right past however many people are in the cast before you see them. I would like the director to be listed first in the cast and crew section.

  7. Logs are showing that there's a flag set which indicates to disable hw accelerated transcoding: One reason for this is the lack of a valid Emby Premiere Subscription But it can also be simply due to a preceding transcode attempt which failed. So - assuming that there's a valid Premiere subscription, the answer should be visible in the preceding FFmpeg log rather than this one.

  9. Hi Emby team, I paid for Lifetime Emby Premiere because I believed Emby would keep up. After years on Emby and now running a Mac mini (Apple Silicon), I’m honestly frustrated and disappointed — especially after spending just two days testing Jellyfin side-by-side. This isn’t a rage post. It’s a reality check from a paying customer who feels left behind on macOS. 1) Hardware acceleration on macOS isn’t where it should be in 2025 On Emby (4.8.11.0), only H.264 hardware acceleration consistently engages for me. HEVC often falls back to software and hammers the CPU. Meanwhile, Jellyfin on the same machine uses Apple’s VideoToolbox reliably and — this was the gut punch — can hardware-accelerate HDR→SDR tone-mapping and even remap Dolby Vision Profile 5 to correct SDR colors on my library. A free competitor doing this while a paid product struggles is hard to swallow. It’s been years since Apple Silicon launched. We’re still missing dependable HEVC HWA and modern, accurate HDR/Dolby Vision handling in Emby on macOS. 2) “Convert Media” appears stuck on software on macOS Playback transcoding sometimes taps H.264 hardware, but server-side Convert Media does not (even when the target is H.264). My CPU pegs to 100% for long stretches. If there’s a way to offload these conversions with VideoToolbox on macOS, it’s either not implemented or not documented. Either way, that’s not acceptable for a paid, cross-platform server in 2025. 3) The ecosystem gap is widening (SSO, skip features, etc.) SSO/OIDC: This keeps coming up in Emby threads. Jellyfin already has a working plugin. I shouldn’t need workarounds for basic identity in a family server. Intro/credits/recap/ad skipping: Jellyfin’s plugins detect intros, credits, recaps, previews — even mid-roll ad segments — and can auto-skip from the server. In practice it’s more capable and less fiddly than what I get with Emby today. Music lyrics: Emby can display lyrics, yes, but the experience across clients is inconsistent and still feels behind competitors. 4) Why this matters now: the homelab shift from x86 to Apple Silicon I’m one of many who have moved from x86/NAS to Mac mini for home self-hosting: lower idle power, quiet 24/7 operation, and strong integrated media engines. This shift is real — a growing slice of homelabbers are standardizing on macOS for exactly these reasons. Competitors (Jellyfin, Plex) have clearly invested in macOS paths and moved faster to meet this demand. Emby hasn’t kept pace. If macOS isn’t treated as a first-class server platform, paying users like me are going to drift away — not because we want to, but because we can’t wait forever. 5) Communication with Mac users has been poor This is the part that stings: macOS requests sit for ages without a concrete answer. If there’s a roadmap, we don’t see it. If there’s progress, it isn’t communicated. What I expect as a paying customer Give us specifics — dates and deliverables — not “we’ll look into it.” macOS hardware acceleration parity: Reliable HEVC encode/decode, hardware HDR→SDR tone-mapping, and correct Dolby Vision (P5) handling on Apple Silicon. Hardware-accelerated Convert Media on macOS: Not just playback transcoding — library conversions must use VideoToolbox where possible. Official SSO/OIDC: First-party, documented, maintained. Server-side skip segments: An endorsed, end-to-end solution for intro/credits/recap (plus guidance for DVR ad detection), with consistent client behavior. A transparent macOS roadmap: Public, mac-specific media-pipeline/HWA plan with milestones. No more guessing. Treat macOS as first-class: Assign ownership to the mac media pipeline, publish known issues/workarounds, and close the loop with actual releases. I’m happy to provide logs, test builds, and real-world repro steps. But please don’t tell me to switch OS, “use software,” or wait indefinitely. I bought Lifetime because I wanted Emby to be my long-term home. Right now, on macOS, it isn’t. Please meet your macOS users where we are — with a plan, not silence.

  14. Hello again Emby community! So long story short, I'm developing on the plugin again as time permits. I essentially started from scratch, which is what I think my mind needed to look at the project in a new way, design-wise that is. This time around, instead of doubling up on Emby's REST API calls or using the SQLite database, I am using the internal .NET API that was already available to me via the plugin itself, and things are already looking much, much cleaner! Since I had a few GitHub stars on the original repo, I am just reusing it for this new effort. The good news is that I have successfully gotten the following three endpoints working successfully: /rest/ping /rest/getLicense /rest/getArtists Not much I know, but I'm hoping things will go quicker as I hit more of Subsonic's API methods. I'll report back when I'm near or at an initial release, but in the meantime, feel free to track progress at the repo.

  18. Nope, but maybe @FrostBytemight. What do you mean by that? You can identify it by title or externalID, but you can't force a movie be TV show, you can only make it a special episode if you want it to show under your TV shows.

  20. I can only comment on my system and EmbyServer folders are found with these paths: /share/ZFS1_DATA/.qpkg, /share/ZFS2_DATA/.qpkg and /share/ZFS530_DATA/.qpkg But the first two paths are only links to the ZFS530_DATA folder, no idea why they have another path even when I am clearly redirected to the same folder each time. So there really only seems to be one "real" folder, in my Qnap and that is /share/ZFS530_DATA/.qpkg This is with QuTS hero h5.2.4.3079 Not sure if there are other folders relating to Emby but if you use WinSCP you could do a search in /share.

  21. Sorry for not properly describing the issue. I watched the movie Together using E4K in LibreElec on my Rpi4. After finishing it, Emby marked it as watched and it was removed from Latest Movies on both Emby web and E4K. But a few days later it was showing as unwatched in E4K even though the status was still watched in Emby. This has happened a few times recently with other movies. I watch them, they will be removed from Latest Movies in E4K only to show up again as unwatched a few days later. To fix the issue, I have to do a database reset or library repair to sync watch status with the Emby server. After I reported the issue last night, I repaired the library to fix it. I'll have to wait until it happens again to confirm that it is not a skin issue.

  22. I have made it to the mountain top! Just a refresh, ultimate issue was genres of "Sport", Biography", "Musical", etc were not being used by Emby's current metadata providers and I wanted the more nuanced genres, so here is what I did: 1. Add ACDb plugin's official and community driven collections (Sports Movies, Film Noir, etc) to my Emby 2. Use Bulky to select all movies in a collection and then bulk add the appropriate Genre (Sport, Film Noir, etc) 3. Make this post and revel in the fact my OCD(-ish)ness get some love via a minor accomplishment haha Thank everyone for offering input. A little bit of insight from each you is what got me to the promised land

  33. This is a frustrating issue here. We have several forum users, including myself & my server users, that complain about this behavior. There are complaints about this behavior going back to July. It's simple as disabling the auto-hide timeout when the user is browsing the info, cast, and chapters menus. The OSD already behaves correctly by NOT hiding itself when going through subtitles, playback rate, etc. So clearly the functionality to disable the auto-hide timeout when the user is interacting with the OSD is already implemented.

  35. I still think they're relevant, and what Erik and Luke have been replying to say. It doesn't change anything, just that the delay is much longer than anyone of us would consider reasonable. Not shocked, and of course wanting this to happen ASAP. Just that it doesn't change anything. We wait (and wait...).

  37. That quite harsh in my opinion. Yes, there are some idiotic things going on, I agree (android UI changes in v3.4.91 that are clearly broken or badly thought out, anyone?). I think most of us want Emby to succeed, and still appreciate work done and the fact that Luke and co engage on the community (even if we are being negative), but are frustrated at lack of progress on things that matter, or backwards steps making the app more difficult to use in name of alleged progress. What gets me is things being ignored that have literally been requested for years, like: 1. No Ability to disable that ridiculous side menu that's always popping up when in horizontal view on a TV 2. No Ability to disable unwanted menu items in the top menu bar 3. No 2FA login 4. No ability to disable the web app from external access and just enable the apps access (easily within management console) 5. Re-instate an exit Emby dialogue if you press back to many times or navigate left past the side menu. On Fire TV, you just get dumped out to the home screen with no warning and if you enable the new configuration setting, you just get stuck in the app on Fire TV (but on LG TV's you get LG's prompt to exit). 6. No Ability to define how many items you want to appear under CONTINUE WATCHING and LATEST EPISODES so you don't get hundreds of items shown. 7. Release Notes for new versions constantly delayed for weeks or months despite customer protests, and often lacking detail of user impacting UI changes, or when Xtras/Shorts were changed for TV libraries. After agreeing SHORTS it was then changed again in quick succession and this has impact on way customers have their media named in libraries. 8. No ability to have concept of themes, where older GUI can be kept, but newer ones that look physically different and major changes, available as a "theme". 9. No Ability of Admin enforced app settings from server and optional user prefs. A little like Microsoft Group Policy / Group Policy Preferences. If it's ticked on a user settings on server page, it means the setting is enforced. Maybe there is a separate tick for "enforced", otherwise its a default setting that can be changed by end user in the app. There are probably some more items that have been around for years, but with the exception of point 3 above (2 FA) and points 8 and 9, are relatively straight forward to implement.

  39. Wow, this thread kinda got out of control. I'm going to give my 2 cents worth about both versions of ET. A while back ET (the legacy version) stop working due to a server update and causing ET the hang at startup. The solution provided then was to install the Windows Store version, so I did. Here's where the trouble started. I use a custom version of "mpv.dll" which fixes problems with Dolby Atmos (it's a FFMpeg issue). I also have extensive plug-in & scripts which are tailored to my theater needs. Also the mpv.conf has a lot of options that are not supported by ET UI. Once I installed the Windows Store version all that stop working. The store version installs the "mpv.dll" at the root of the ET app location. The Windows Apps location (Program Files\WindowsApps) is a system protected folder which restricts file manipulation (copy, modify, deleting, ...). Also, the ET store version does not load the mpv.conf or scripts/plug-ins which are disabled in this version. This made using the ET Store version useless for my needs. I was able to get this store version working but that's another thread topic. Long story short, I still use the ET legacy version with my custom mpv.dll, plugins and scripts because that's what works for me. Once support for this version stops than I will be forced to use the store version which makes things way more complicated. Yeah I know the store version is suppose to be for the general user but some of us like the customization/extendibility of the legacy version. The store version just needs an advanced user option to use a custom "mpv.dll" at a user managed location and allow config/script loading as well. That's all folks...

  40. I know this is an old thread but I recently switched back to Emby after a few years back on Plex and whilst most of the emby experience is great, having downloads show up right under Continue Watching (on Android) does not make sense to me as there's also a button in the bottom bar that also provides access. It would be great if Downloads would be its own section under Home Screen so it can either be disabled or moved down to the bottom.

  41. Agreed - another area where Emby have lost focus and are now way behind the competition - it doesn't even have the ability to edit the Intro's without the support of a 3rd party plugin... Emby (with the 3rd party Plugin) used to lead in this area as it had both Intro and Outro detection and all the support tools (editing, stats etc). Now even JF has long passed them and have recently introduced the architecture called 'media segments' which is tagging for for Commercial, Preview, Recap, Outro and Intro. Their clients need to catch up, but the concept is solid. A shame, as the same concept of 'MarkerTypes' is actually in Emby (and was discussed with them), but beyond Intro's, it has have never been developed further ...

  42. While Emby already has recommendations built in based on previously watched items I find they are not all that helpful. They seem to be based on genre only, for example, because you watched a comedy here are other comedies in your library. I do like how the also directed by/appear in recommendations work though. What would be great is if Emby could incorporate Trakt's recommendations as they are much more sophisticated. Trakt's recommendations are not only based off of what you have previously watched but also what your Trakt friends and other Trakt users have watched. It takes user ratings and trending/popular media into account. Ideally Emby would include full Trakt integration allowing users to rate media after watching, view lists and recommendations, and view upcoming media all from within Emby but for now I think recommendations would be a nice addition. Trakt has the potential to give Emby that community feel and allow users to discover new media, find something to watch, and recommend media to other users. http://docs.trakt.apiary.io/#reference/recommendations
