So you just have the audio track by itself? I don't think external audio tracks are supported currently but I found some reference that it's supported in 4.9 which is still in beta. Your best bet is to mux it into the existing MKV, or create a separate one.3 points

Update: After some internal discussion we're going to move this from user settings to a library option. Thanks guys.3 points

IMO, your points are very valid and I specifically share the criticism on the quoted ones. I must admit that I had quite a few WTH moments, on some unexpected UI changes. I think it all burns down to the lack of a beta channel for the client UI for testing changes and receiving user feedback before pushing things out to the masses. Tastes are different and having multiple themes should have the purpose to accommodate for different user preferences. This doesn't work when all themese are permanently changing in the same ways and the only difference are colors and background. Personally, I find the light theme from about 4 years ago the best (light theme) we ever had. Others might disagree, but that's exactly the point: providing real choices that are substantially different instead of continuously forcing changes to all users, creating bad feelings. BTW: That's entirely off-topic here...2 points

If you are talking about the navigation issue in the guide when you select a single channel to see what is on for the next two weeks then THANK YOU and I will definitely let everyone know you delivered Luke. I don't want to constantly be complaining and busting your chops Luke but I have been complaining about this for 18 MONTHS. If it gets fixed now that is great but on the converse if it was that easy to fix why didn't you just fix it when I brought it to your attention 18 months ago? Or any of the other times I have complained? And this is relevant because it showcases a lack action from emby and the reason everyone is in this thread bitching 5 years after being promised something that was actually usable then scrapped then promised again and now it looks like Erik spilled the beans and we are NEVER getting NextTV. Everyone here has legitimate gripes and you should be listening and you should be honest. If NextTV is NEVER coming then just say so. LiveTV is why people buy or subscribe to Premiere yet it is pretty much unusable. Your team has been stringing us along for 5 years. Believe me if I was a subscriber instead of purchasing Premiere I would have dumped it after 6 months and bought Premiere simply for the guide data but I would not pay monthly for something that does not work as it should. The people that use LiveTV may be in the minority but we probably mostly make up your POWER users and you should be listening to us. You have to be dedicated to put up with the crap we have for 5 years. I am dumping Cable TV tomorrow with never even once be experiencing the joy NextTV promised me 5 years ago and why I purchased Premiere. I will still use LiveTV with Channels because I have moved to streaming content. Based on this I think NextTV is NEVER coming because you aren't stupid Luke so you have to realize that Cable TV is about to die a fiery death due to bloated costs. But here is where you missed the boat. Yes, I bought Premiere for the extra features and the guide data but if you would have approached us 5 years ago and said that in order to release NextTV you would need for us to pay a monthly, or yearly, fee for the guide to make it sustainable I would have gladly agreed and I would have been paying you for the last 5 years. You threw all that money away, even if it wasn't a great amount it would have sustained LiveTV. I know that NextTV or TVNext...can't remember which at this point has been useable for years. Softworkz made the mistake of telling us that. He uses it. Why could you have not let us who wanted it try it out even if it wouldn't work with the new architecture I am not totally sure why you had to adopt? If you had done that you would not be dealing with this thread or people talking about migrating to something else. We all would have helped you. You could have created a fork and a special beta release just for users of LiveTV to help you tweak and make the new version useable and stable without pushing it out to the general user base. I can guarantee you we would have all worked with you daily to figure things out. I have 5 Ceton tuner cards and I would have done anything you asked to help you test and tune. Now I will be throwing them out. I even bought the 4 extra cards because of your promise of supporting the cards natively. If people have lost trust and confidence in the emby team it has been earned and that makes me feel bad because as much as I complain I truly love emby and have found nothing that compares. I just wish it worked as promised because I still use it every singe day.2 points

Ok so my request is to be able to search each library separate as it stands when you search it searches everything, and if like me you have 30k music tracks 10k books/comics 10k episodes and 10k+ movies, searching is slow so is it possible to have a search section for each library individually1 point
-
If click Search I cannot type on my keyboard for what I want the search for. And the character picker is all horizontal which makes it extremely slow to navigate with direction keys. Haven't game consoles shown how to do this kind of text entry a bit faster with directional inputs and characters on a grid for the past 20+ years?1 point

Hi Emby team, I paid for Lifetime Emby Premiere because I believed Emby would keep up. After years on Emby and now running a Mac mini (Apple Silicon), I’m honestly frustrated and disappointed — especially after spending just two days testing Jellyfin side-by-side. This isn’t a rage post. It’s a reality check from a paying customer who feels left behind on macOS. 1) Hardware acceleration on macOS isn’t where it should be in 2025 On Emby (4.8.11.0), only H.264 hardware acceleration consistently engages for me. HEVC often falls back to software and hammers the CPU. Meanwhile, Jellyfin on the same machine uses Apple’s VideoToolbox reliably and — this was the gut punch — can hardware-accelerate HDR→SDR tone-mapping and even remap Dolby Vision Profile 5 to correct SDR colors on my library. A free competitor doing this while a paid product struggles is hard to swallow. It’s been years since Apple Silicon launched. We’re still missing dependable HEVC HWA and modern, accurate HDR/Dolby Vision handling in Emby on macOS. 2) “Convert Media” appears stuck on software on macOS Playback transcoding sometimes taps H.264 hardware, but server-side Convert Media does not (even when the target is H.264). My CPU pegs to 100% for long stretches. If there’s a way to offload these conversions with VideoToolbox on macOS, it’s either not implemented or not documented. Either way, that’s not acceptable for a paid, cross-platform server in 2025. 3) The ecosystem gap is widening (SSO, skip features, etc.) SSO/OIDC: This keeps coming up in Emby threads. Jellyfin already has a working plugin. I shouldn’t need workarounds for basic identity in a family server. Intro/credits/recap/ad skipping: Jellyfin’s plugins detect intros, credits, recaps, previews — even mid-roll ad segments — and can auto-skip from the server. In practice it’s more capable and less fiddly than what I get with Emby today. Music lyrics: Emby can display lyrics, yes, but the experience across clients is inconsistent and still feels behind competitors. 4) Why this matters now: the homelab shift from x86 to Apple Silicon I’m one of many who have moved from x86/NAS to Mac mini for home self-hosting: lower idle power, quiet 24/7 operation, and strong integrated media engines. This shift is real — a growing slice of homelabbers are standardizing on macOS for exactly these reasons. Competitors (Jellyfin, Plex) have clearly invested in macOS paths and moved faster to meet this demand. Emby hasn’t kept pace. If macOS isn’t treated as a first-class server platform, paying users like me are going to drift away — not because we want to, but because we can’t wait forever. 5) Communication with Mac users has been poor This is the part that stings: macOS requests sit for ages without a concrete answer. If there’s a roadmap, we don’t see it. If there’s progress, it isn’t communicated. What I expect as a paying customer Give us specifics — dates and deliverables — not “we’ll look into it.” macOS hardware acceleration parity: Reliable HEVC encode/decode, hardware HDR→SDR tone-mapping, and correct Dolby Vision (P5) handling on Apple Silicon. Hardware-accelerated Convert Media on macOS: Not just playback transcoding — library conversions must use VideoToolbox where possible. Official SSO/OIDC: First-party, documented, maintained. Server-side skip segments: An endorsed, end-to-end solution for intro/credits/recap (plus guidance for DVR ad detection), with consistent client behavior. A transparent macOS roadmap: Public, mac-specific media-pipeline/HWA plan with milestones. No more guessing. Treat macOS as first-class: Assign ownership to the mac media pipeline, publish known issues/workarounds, and close the loop with actual releases. I’m happy to provide logs, test builds, and real-world repro steps. But please don’t tell me to switch OS, “use software,” or wait indefinitely. I bought Lifetime because I wanted Emby to be my long-term home. Right now, on macOS, it isn’t. Please meet your macOS users where we are — with a plan, not silence.1 point

This one runs mostly on X11. I also use a laptop, also Fedora 42, but with both an Intel and an Nvidia card, running on Wayland.1 point

Ok, just tried again now and the volume has stayed up (audible) with me switching sources etc. Looks like that's fixed it, thanks!1 point

Since everything tied to database sets now it really isn't possible to transfer from server to server now. As the users.db is your users but the library.db uses the userids from your users.db for your users data and for Playlists permissions. You also have other dbs like displaypreferences (think removed or move to library.db) and authentication; As mentioned you would have to restore a backup on your new system and upgrade to beta. But as mentioned if both servers will remain online you will want to delete the device.txt on one or ensure to deselect that option on the restore process. And probably offset Emby ports and ensure you redo add new portforwarding.1 point
-
This will create duplicate server IDs which will be a potential problem. You'll want to delete the "device.txt" file from the new one and let it re-generate.1 point

Yeah, I really don't get the lack of progress on the player. There's another request I made months ago to show properly sized pop-up menus instead of full screen (which shouldn't have happened in the first place, and from what I gather it's a simple css issue) and still crickets. I don't get how there are so many clients and players out there distributed under FOSS licenses, often developed by single devs, that surpass the emby player in every single way, but the only thing we get with emby is "sure, we'll look into this".1 point

I switched back to JF. A huge Development has been done on Client side, We have Download options as well. Emby Looks old. Very old.1 point

OK, I think I can migrate to the beta anyway since I am getting rid of cable and the only reason I could not use it was my cable cards did not work with it through the proxy.1 point

Yeah in the end I gave up and did the traditionnal Emby naming, so I won't have the chapter number etc, i also had to manually change 300 episodes names, but at least it works.... (normal behaviour I can't expect emby to recognize this)1 point

Thank you Luke for fixing that nagging issue. You really delivered in not only a timely manner but at lightning speed. I really appreciate it and this will make using emby so much more pleasurable again. Not off topic, leave it here as no one will see it in the specific thread you created with my other post Luke. That is all I am going to say here, THANK YOU SO MUCH LUKE!!!1 point

And that is an option I, for one, hope you never implement. I see nothing good coming form it and a lot of bad as Emby should never have a non-existent file that it could try to access.1 point

Hello, It will be great to have the possibility to exclude a library from the global search. For example the Adult content one. Or at least to be able to exclude a tag from the global search and by this I can tag the entire Adult library as Adult and Adult tag to be globally excluded on search. Imagine what happens when you want to search for "Coffee with Ana" movie and you start typing in the search field "Ana" with little kids near you Thanks!1 point

What this says is after 4.9 is released in the far future, it will likely be years more before live TV improvements might be made. (given the current rate of releases ... ) No commitment, no target date. So, to sum it up, "just foget 'bout it" and everyone go home.1 point

I would like to have the option to display subtitles outside the "video frame" at the bottom of the screen, regardless of movie format. Currently Plex, Jellyfin and also KODI offer this possibility, with Emby being the only left out, and the only reason I am not using Emby as my primary media server. Kodi does have the best implementation options: The forum discussion for reference:1 point

That quite harsh in my opinion. Yes, there are some idiotic things going on, I agree (android UI changes in v3.4.91 that are clearly broken or badly thought out, anyone?). I think most of us want Emby to succeed, and still appreciate work done and the fact that Luke and co engage on the community (even if we are being negative), but are frustrated at lack of progress on things that matter, or backwards steps making the app more difficult to use in name of alleged progress. What gets me is things being ignored that have literally been requested for years, like: 1. No Ability to disable that ridiculous side menu that's always popping up when in horizontal view on a TV 2. No Ability to disable unwanted menu items in the top menu bar 3. No 2FA login 4. No ability to disable the web app from external access and just enable the apps access (easily within management console) 5. Re-instate an exit Emby dialogue if you press back to many times or navigate left past the side menu. On Fire TV, you just get dumped out to the home screen with no warning and if you enable the new configuration setting, you just get stuck in the app on Fire TV (but on LG TV's you get LG's prompt to exit). 6. No Ability to define how many items you want to appear under CONTINUE WATCHING and LATEST EPISODES so you don't get hundreds of items shown. 7. Release Notes for new versions constantly delayed for weeks or months despite customer protests, and often lacking detail of user impacting UI changes, or when Xtras/Shorts were changed for TV libraries. After agreeing SHORTS it was then changed again in quick succession and this has impact on way customers have their media named in libraries. 8. No ability to have concept of themes, where older GUI can be kept, but newer ones that look physically different and major changes, available as a "theme". 9. No Ability of Admin enforced app settings from server and optional user prefs. A little like Microsoft Group Policy / Group Policy Preferences. If it's ticked on a user settings on server page, it means the setting is enforced. Maybe there is a separate tick for "enforced", otherwise its a default setting that can be changed by end user in the app. There are probably some more items that have been around for years, but with the exception of point 3 above (2 FA) and points 8 and 9, are relatively straight forward to implement.1 point

If they can do fast channel change I would be there in a heartbeat to install it. This is getting beyond a joke now something that should have been around the corner it is going to be 3 years since this thread has been created there is no end in sight of this beta. It seems they are actively pushing users away. Beta updates are just seems fixing regression after regression. So I agree with your sentiments for moving away1 point

I switched over a few of my users to Jellyfin today. Going to have them trial it for a few weeks and if all is good I'll be making the switch permanently. I've been an MB user for over 10 years, a vocal supporter who recommended it to everyone I came across, and a huge fan overall. Lately I've lost trust in the dev team, broken promises, no transparency, and no direction. I will be making another post later on, but needless to say I'm pretty much done with Emby at this point.1 point

Erik, a lot of people across the forum have either stopped using Live TV or found alternatives or are looking for them. Personally, I only use it with Pünktchen's plugin, because switching channels in any other setup is just too frustrating. None of my users want it, and some have even gone as far as taking out separate LiveTV subscriptions that add up to hundreds of euros and not all of them legal. I understand that most of the Emby userbase either don’t use Live TV or wouldn’t consider it a priority. But the most vocal people in this thread are also the ones I see regularly on the beta pages, helping others and contributing ideas. They are not just complaining for the sake of it; they want the best possible experience and genuinely want to see Emby succeed. That is why I have previously raised the point about radical transparency (I'm too lazy to scroll back on my phone to quote it here). Emby is a company, and any company needs a clear roadmap. Without one, things can appear slapdash, and that does not give customers confidence. A transparent roadmap would go a long way in showing that feedback is heard and progress is being made.1 point
-
But the point of the cast list is to tell you who is in the movie, and those people were in the movie.1 point

Is there plans on the roadmap for OpenID. I have searched but not found any indication this is in development. With many admins taking up SSO through Authelia or Authentik to enhance security it would be great for Emby to support it. One of the easier open standards is OpenID which the aforementioned support. Users could continue to use LDAP if they wish while others can use the arguably better SSO experience.1 point

hey so i noticed that in most streaming sites like Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play Music it has a small "E" icon (see images) by the album name and some songs marking if they are explicit. I was wondering if this feature could be added to Emby. Like either you mark it manually or the metadata scraper automatically adds it. This would help when knowing what songs might not be safe to play at all places and this could be an option when it comes to parental controls. Like if you don't want your kid or a user to listen explicit music then you'd be able to check not to allow explicit music. Anyway is there a way to add this?1 point
