Could it be done? Maybe? Is it a good idea? No. Save yourself some headache and run the server on anything other than a Chromebook. A mini PC from 2013 is even a better option. If you can setup Linux you are even better off. Plenty of options out there but I Chromebook would be at the bottom of my list by far.3 points

I tried Jellyfin for a while and it's actually better than Emby in this regard. Not superb, mind you, but faster. Issue I had was with the formatting. It has to be fairly precise. I stopped using it as I don't want to run 2 servers for what Emby advertises (or used to) is part of their flagship features...2 points

Use Rufus to create a Windows 11 usb install drive. During the creation setup there is a check box to bypass the compatibility check on older hardware. It will require a fresh install though.2 points

The thing is this, Luke said 4.9 would be a short beta. And since we’ve got (at least, that have been publicly announced) 2 major items still being worked on for 4.9, it seems pretty certain that there’ll be another 3 months beta at least. My overall conclusion, if I put Luke’s original statement together with today’s reality, is that it doesn’t point to a well controlled development and release process. And one consequence is, poor expectation management and disappointment for the user base.2 points

Watching Eye is a plugin designed to give you granular control over your server's streaming environment. It's the perfect tool for managing user watch time, monitoring server performance, and ensuring a smooth viewing experience for everyone. Key Features: Watch Time Limiter: Set daily, weekly, monthly, and even yearly watch time limits for specific users. Create global watch time rules that apply to all users, with the option to exclude certain individuals. Establish specific time windows during which users are allowed to watch content, perfect for parental controls. Transcode Notifications and Blocking: Receive instant notifications when a user's stream starts transcoding, helping you identify potential playback issues. Proactively block transcodes based on video resolution or container format to conserve server resources. Customize notification messages to inform users why their video is transcoding and suggest solutions. Playback Control and Monitoring: Automatically stop streams that have been paused for an extended period,. Keep a detailed log of transcoding events and when users reach their watch time limits. At the moment once themes finish, silence ensues. I'd rather have the theme start playing again. It also doesn't play after the film/show, I don't think? I love having it, it approximates the mood-setting of a DVD or Blu-ray menu, and avoids horrible silences, but it shuts off too much.1 point

Hi. The 1.25x playback speed increment can often be a little too fast. There is no way to dial it back a little other than going back to the normal 1.0x speed. Several users have also mentioned this in https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/47559-ability-to-adjust-playback-speed, and expressed an interest in getting additional playback speed increments between 1.0x and 1.25x. However, that post has been marked as completed, hence this new post. It would be great if you could include also 1.10x, 1.15x, and 1.2x playback speed increments. Thank you.1 point

EDIT: in the series folder sometimes emby thinks 2 different shows are the same show and groups them together. but it would be a lot easier to find the series in question and manually identify them if i could just set the filter to show duplicates only for tv shows1 point

No, but this question has come up before and it's possible for the future.1 point

It depends on what you've configured as your recording folders in live tv setup.1 point

Hi, yes more increments are certainly possible. Thanks.1 point

Erik, a lot of people across the forum have either stopped using Live TV or found alternatives or are looking for them. Personally, I only use it with Pünktchen's plugin, because switching channels in any other setup is just too frustrating. None of my users want it, and some have even gone as far as taking out separate LiveTV subscriptions that add up to hundreds of euros and not all of them legal. I understand that most of the Emby userbase either don’t use Live TV or wouldn’t consider it a priority. But the most vocal people in this thread are also the ones I see regularly on the beta pages, helping others and contributing ideas. They are not just complaining for the sake of it; they want the best possible experience and genuinely want to see Emby succeed. That is why I have previously raised the point about radical transparency (I'm too lazy to scroll back on my phone to quote it here). Emby is a company, and any company needs a clear roadmap. Without one, things can appear slapdash, and that does not give customers confidence. A transparent roadmap would go a long way in showing that feedback is heard and progress is being made.1 point

Received my MECOOL MEgo1 4K Google TV Stick today, and was quite impressed. I used it on a 1080p TV that belongs to my aunt Bertha and cousin Cletus. I set it up so they can use my Emby server, so they can cut cable. It is a master piece for that option. It can be setup so IF I travel, all I have to do is plug it into one of the TV's HDMI ports and I have everything I need............. Fantastic little media player for that situation. Finally figured out how to add "users" for out of network.......... WHEW, took years to accomplish!!!!!!!!!1 point

I feel honored, next year, it will be 10 years since I started this... I do love Emby!1 point

How true. Using NextPVR only and dvb-s the tuning is significantly quicker than Emby. True for Emby I'm doing NextPVR feeding Emby, but with TVnext I wouldn't need NextPVR anyway. I presume satellite is never in the millisecond range.1 point

Thank you very much for providing the Alexa replies. I checked them, and they are all correct. I really appreciate the effort you put into making these adjustments and the time you take to review them with me.1 point

Is there plans on the roadmap for OpenID. I have searched but not found any indication this is in development. With many admins taking up SSO through Authelia or Authentik to enhance security it would be great for Emby to support it. One of the easier open standards is OpenID which the aforementioned support. Users could continue to use LDAP if they wish while others can use the arguably better SSO experience.1 point

Is he trolling? Responses are so meh. Lets not forget this is still a paid for product. The competition all already have this ability. It's like yea we know. It'll someday be in a beta in a galaxy far far away. Pretty poor approach to those who have been using Emby for some time. I don't think that we're asking for a lot here. Had there been an actual attempt to show that it is actually being worked on. I think we would all be happy. It's now been months and very little attempt shown we're being heard. A member has even complied a docker image. Having us beg for this is wild.1 point

+1 for improved library/collection options, ideally set at library or collection level for all users.1 point

Yes, something is wrong with subtitles for very long time... . I found, if turn off "Remember subtitle track selections" it's not showing subs at all. Yes, then not playing. But even, if Subtitle Mode is "No subtitles", it's still playing forced subs. Generally I'm not using subs, but have rare need for them. embyserver (1).txt1 point

Requesting a theme song auto repeat. When a user has manually placed a theme song inside the designated folder, have it auto repeate inside the client apps when it finishes.1 point

I switched over a few of my users to Jellyfin today. Going to have them trial it for a few weeks and if all is good I'll be making the switch permanently. I've been an MB user for over 10 years, a vocal supporter who recommended it to everyone I came across, and a huge fan overall. Lately I've lost trust in the dev team, broken promises, no transparency, and no direction. I will be making another post later on, but needless to say I'm pretty much done with Emby at this point.0 points
