Thank you Luke, I am looking patiently forward to it2 points

Yeah, no, NEVER going to happen. Just use a PC with the new windows 112H2 update. As for HDR10+, so few TV's even support it (and the only content that does is pirated content that has faked metadata) that it's just not worth the hassle. It's a Samsung cash grab, nothing more. I see you own a Samsung TV..pity as they are the creators of HDR10+ because they refused to pay Dolby and created their own "standard". Replace your TV and get a real one.2 points

@@Luke stated in a previous post (https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/49933-replaygain-music-support/) adding support for this could easily be done for at least the theater client seeing as the player used already supports replaygain. I'm making this feature request in hopes that this support is added, as I have no dev experience myself1 point

Built in Push Notifications through the app and not 3rd party applications? Is that a foreseen addition or what? Right now I added push bullet and well you have to download the app to just get the notifications. Seems counterproductive honestly at least in my eyes? I'd like to see if maybe the android app could get native notifications, I know Roku would be probably difficult and PC would be easy. Xbox probably the same but may be annoying in the sense while viewing or playing games. At least with the Android (iOS too I'm assuming) we could be notified right from our phones and be like "sweet" turning on Emby and watching a movie now.1 point

Or at least an indication of which track is favorited. This is a expensive loss of information from the desktop / large mode in my opinion. Here the first track is favorited but I have no clue. I need to long tap on the track (or use the three dots) and look for the line "Remove from Favorites" which is a bit twisted to obtain this information.1 point

Hello, I just switched over from plex to emby because I got fed up with photo libraries. I thought to give emby a shot for photos only. I'm just performing an initial scan of my library (4500 videos, 72k photos). I noticed that emby is rather slow on this initial scan and it's mostly performing sequential video scan via ffmpeg. Is there any reason why this is not done in multiple parallel threads to speed up things? My server has 6 cores but is rather bored CPU-wise and also not exhausted I/O-wise. I believe it could handle 2-4 more parallel ffmpeg calls. kr1 point

Thanks for the reply Luke, we'll just continue on as is for now then. Just thought I would double check I was not missing something useful for this use case.1 point

It's in grandmas room on a huge 50" TV with 4K resolution but she cannot read the tiny labels or icons in 4K. I probably changed it to 1080p long ago. The windows update must have reset the resolution back to 4K and I just forgot it was supposed to be in 1080p. Set it to 1080p and everything looks normal again. The only time I really ever pay attention to it is when she complains "the tv is broken", no matter what the issue is. This was not an Emby issue. Thank you for your assistance.1 point

sorry for the late response. All of that i had already done and looked perfect. So i decided to just completely revamp and rebuild on a NAS, I factory reset the router just to be safe. Exact same settings as before and wham it worked. So who knows! All i know is no more upset kids.1 point

It took me a bit to notice the hazy circles, but that's exactly what I wanted, thanks.1 point

Unfortunately, that has never mattered in the world of consumer electronics. Beta was far superior to VHS - still lost. HDDVD was arguably superior to BD - lost. Laser disc... etc. The fight isn't over yet but, at this point, Dolby is clearly winning. Like 170 to 30 when it comes to HD disc releases. And, I think even most of those 30 are dual.1 point

@RanmaCanada Alright, hold on a second. You're saying HDR10+ is as good as dead? I have to strongly disagree with you there. The reports of its death are greatly exaggerated, and in this case, the claim is flat-out wrong. Amazon Prime Video, one of the largest streaming providers in the world, relies heavily on HDR10+. Samsung, the world's biggest TV manufacturer, is pushing the standard forward. That is the exact opposite of "dead." But there's a more important point you seem to be overlooking: The "Dolby Vision" you get from almost all streaming services is often of inferior quality compared to a good HDR10+ playback. Let me make this perfectly clear: You are defending a logo, not the better technology. You're not getting the real Dolby Vision: The superior Dolby Vision you're thinking of (Profile 7, with its potential for 12-bit color depth) exists exclusively on 4K UHD Blu-rays. What you see on Netflix, Disney+, and the like is Profile 8.1. Technically, that is nothing more than a standard HDR10 container on top of which Dolby layers its dynamic metadata. It's a bait-and-switch that lives off the reputation of the Blu-ray version. HDR10+ is the more honest technology (for streaming): HDR10+ was designed from the ground up for exactly this purpose: to dynamically enhance a clean HDR10 signal. It's not trying to be something it isn't. It is the logical, open-standard evolution of HDR10. The crucial point – Which one has better quality? Since both streaming Dolby Vision (Profile 8.1) and HDR10+ are built on an HDR10 foundation, the final picture quality is ultimately decided by the TV's processing. And I have seen countless comparisons where the HDR10+ playback was visibly better: details in dark areas were clearer, colors looked more natural, and the image wasn't as overblown and artificially sharpened, as is the case with some Dolby Vision implementations. Dolby Vision often forces its own "look" onto the TV, while HDR10+ often makes better use of the panel's native capabilities. To sum it up: You are defending a format that, in its streaming version, sells you a stripped-down, compromised solution. It's technically almost identical to HDR10+, but due to its proprietary processing, it often leads to inferior results. [redacted]1 point

I hear ya. People are quite fickle and transition quickly from fad to fad these days. Everything from cars to phones, companies these days just keep looking for that profit increase instead of taking care of their existing users. Something like 3D movies would've taken a long time to adopt to mass popularity, but I guess the studios and equipment manufacturers just didn't want to do it any longer, not enough profit soon enough. Basically the answer to every time I ask myself "why don't we have X, as a society?", the answer is almost always either A. Not profitable enough, or B it's simply impossible. It sucks being as old as I am, I saw a time when innovation and features drove sales, prices were competitive and options were varied. Now everything is the same, just different content to consume. I mean... Look at cars... We went from dozens of shapes, colors, and definitive styles, to any cross-over suv you want; without a frame and in black, white, or silver. And now, you can even choose from 3 different engines, all 2.0L or less and with cheap turbos that'll cook before the tranny does. None of them powerful enough to tow home another when it bricks itself due to some dumb sensor gone bad that wouldn't ultimately effect the safety of the vehicle anyway. (Yet, legit safety recalls are are in record numbers) Whoops... I've gone off on another rant. I should go coffee and eat before replying any more. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with Emby overall, despite the few areas that navigating with a remote control doesn't work, it's otherwise, one of the best things I've done with a computer (at home) in over 25 years. It's quite good .1 point

Thanks, but I think I've exhausted every avenue, I've tried several different players, nothing on my PC will work because apparently Nvidia removed the ability to send 3D frame packed info to displays from their drivers. I guess there just is no way to do it with modern hardware. What a stupid world we live in. VR is taking over, and I'm just late to the party and don't wanna watch a movie with a teathered headset on. I can't believe how alone I am in this. People are just all too satisfied to take the garbage manufacturers give them and I'm too poor to vote with my spending. (Sorry, minor rant there) If anyone has done this lately (2024 or newer) and gotten it to work, I'd love to hear explicit details. I'm using an RTX3060 and AMD ryzen5 3600. I've also tried with Intel hd 730 on a different PC, but only tried briefly on that one.1 point

I agree. Push notifications for at least the browsers seem to work swimmingly. My desktop gets notifications when my server has a pending update and needs to restart so that seems to work really nice. I know the same kind of mechanic exists (at least within android) to use Chrome's messaging service and is also very similar. If this becomes possible we can also work towards generic notifications to announce new movies, shows or upcoming shows or programs. I would personally really like this to become a feature.1 point

Having this now behind an API instead of a GUI is absolutely ridiculous. Users now need to learn API to adjust their transcode settings <face palm>.1 point

@keitaro26No, I have less files, same lag. Seems one of the new functions seems to slow down Emby real heavy. Just can think of the Aspect Ratio stuff. 5.30.2 seems to be the last version working without lag for me. This is with the latest dll: Bildschirmaufnahme 2025-08-14 103105.mp4 With 5.30.2: Bildschirmaufnahme 2025-08-14 103409.mp41 point

why in the world would you want to do this? it would ruin the content of the movie or show you are watching because the beeping drowns out the rest of what they're saying most of the time. if you don't like cussing then don't watch anything but cartoons and religious content sorry but that is the truth1 point

This version is loading much faster, almost as fast as 2.25.2. I will leave it overnight and see how it affects system speed in the morning.1 point

Correct. Anything in the 400 range is generally user error or some kind of access denied. The error codes that the server most frequently uses are 400, 401, 402, 403, 404, 500 and 503. The error code can help you decide whether to display a Refresh/Retry button along with the error message. Right now I would say anything in the 500 range would make sense to have a retry button. The best way to beef up your error handling would be to turn on maintenance mode while using and seeing how things respond. Like for example, trying to get to a new screen, trying to click play, etc.1 point

Not used ATV in a long time. I thought it had subtitle placement, but only if the subtitle wasn't trying to place the text already. It just won't override what a user has configured in the subtitle already. Which I suppose makes sense. It also won't move them outside the picture frame. So if the movie has the black bars cropped you can't move them outside the video. Been awhile though.1 point

At present HDHomeRun (network cable) is recommended, and Hauppauge (PCIe or USB) is also supported - but for that WinTV must be installed, and (I think) running. The next beta (that's to say, after the release of 4.9) is expected to contain a complete rewrite of the TV code, which will support widely used standards. Paul1 point

I wouldn't rule out having options to control this on the server at some point as this question has come up before. It's just tricky.1 point
-
Hi, there is not currently a way to do this because this is the sort of thing you might want to configure differently based on what screen you're using. The landing page for the library will be shared across devices, but not the other things like image type and fields.1 point

An update - Emby Server 4.9.x betas will now purge the ImageCache files if the option is now disabled. As from version 4.9.0.32, we purge the ImageCache on a manual refresh metadata for the library1 point

I switched to Navidrome. I put a lot of effort into tagging my music, Navdirome picks up on metadata changes almost instantly. I use Symfonium as a client and the rest is history. I'm not dissing Emby and still use it for video, and, its worth the money. But like mentioned, the corporate style one line answer to a feature request from 2017 is laughable at this stage. We not asking for nrw construction of pyramids or reinvention of the wheel. I will add one extra postive note to Symfonium, the dev actually listens to the community and has implemented tons of feature requests. Thats something I can truly support going forward.1 point

The lack of transparency on this subject made me jump to another provider for music. Emby is great for media other than music. This post was created November 1, 2017. And the answer we get from Emby in 2025 is... It is comical at this stage. Just say its not coming or give the community a valid reason why not, I get it you are maybe working hard on other features / fixes, but, you are not dealing drugs here and a little honesty and clarity would have been much appreciated.1 point

In case anyone search's this topic and finds this thread, I wanted to document my full workflow that worked flawlessly. This was for migrating Emby Server from running on Windows 11 to running in Docker on Ubuntu Server. My media paths changed but I have always had my Emby Server set to save metadata to NFOs in the media folders so the changed paths did not matter. Back up the original Emby Server Create a new backup location for the new server Copy the most recent "full" and "server database" backups of the old server, to the new backup location Do a fresh install of Emby Server in its new location. DO NOT restore anything Set up the Libraries for the new server; pointing them to the correct folder locations Click through each setting on the new server and update them to match the old server (network settings will likely be a new local IP address) Create users on the new server to match the old server. They do not have to match exactly but should be easily identifiable. Wait for Libraries to completely import and populate; "watched" statuses will be gone but do not panic Go to "Backup & Restore" and set the Backup Folder to the new backup location Current Backup Date should be the date of the most recent old server backup (that was copied into the new backup folder) Click "Extract Data From Backup", make sure the old user (left) matches the new user (right); click "Restore from Backup" The watched statuses on the new server should now match the watch statuses on the old server. I hope this helps. Edit: I recommend deleting the old server backup files/folders from the new back up location. That way when the new server does its first back up, it will due a full backup of the new server.1 point

You use chatGPT for your arguments and obviously do not understand anything that is against your opinion. Emby will never make a device, period. At no point did I do anything that you claim I did [redacted]. As for learning the tech, I've been an active encoder for over 20 years, and I've dealt with every single media format out there, both digital and analog. I've forgotten more stuff than you've read. I also do not use chatGPT to make my arguments for me, like you have. Again, [redacted] at least use your own words and not those of AI. can mods just close this [redacted] topic? Nothing like advocating for the media cartels to come crashing down on the Emby team by creating a device that does nothing but endorse and condone piracy.0 points
-
At no point did I say that only Samsung supports it. Please read my comment again, and use your brain. It doesn't matter if the TV's support it if the content does not exist. So few movies and TV shows are released in HDR10+ that it might as well not exist. This is like the old Beta vs VHS or Bluray vs HDDVD. Porn will once again surely pick the winner. /s You're beating a dead horse while trying to get it to pull your wagon, and your arrogance is nothing but ignorance. Emby will never make a device as then they would be held accountable for all the copyright infringement their users do as the media cartels will absolutely be up in arms about it. [redacted]0 points
