Hi Frostbyte, I've re-downloaded the Github version again but put it on a different USB this time and it's installed all fine. Not sure what happened when I did this process earlier unless it was finding the older emby.tmg of the previous version (but expect the newer version should have overwritten onto the USB). All good for now then and appreciate the prompt response and help here.2 points

Try downloading from GitHub again. The latest version is 2.1.2 and was uploaded on 26 Jun. The release notes post was just never updated. Works fine here and we should have about 10 days left before it expires.2 points

I love cloning basic preferences between profiles, but I still have to set up display layouts, Home‑screen widgets, subtitle defaults, notifications, and profile pictures manually. Let me copy all of those at once so new users instantly get my preferred setup.2 points

Could you allow users to customize the order of movies in collections instead of only having it by alphabetical or by release date? Example: I want to have a collection of Batman movies, both animated and motion pictures but want the motion pictures together followed by all the animated ones. With the current order options, this isn't possible. Thanks!1 point

@Luke, while developing Emby.MCP I discovered a couple of bugs in the Emby Client SDK for Python that I have fixed in my own Github fork (as branch 4.9.0.33-Beta-A01) This was in the last available SDK version at time of writing - more recent betas seem to have SDKs that are largely void of files. The bugs are: def auth_settings() in SampleCode/RestApi/Clients/Python/emby_client/configuration.py is missing this stanza: 'embyauth': { 'type': 'access_token', 'in': 'header', 'key': 'X-Emby-Token', 'value': self.get_api_key_with_prefix('access_token') } without which it is impossible to use the standard user login Access Token with any API call that requires an authenticated user - only the all powerful API Key will work. def get_users_itemaccess_with_http_info() in SampleCode/RestApi/Clients/Python/emby_client/api/user_service_api.py is missing 'item_id' from all_params = [] and a corresponding query_params.append about 30 lines later. Without this, get_users_itemaccess() does not function as expected when compared to to carrying out the same tasks using the Emby web client (I captured the http requests with Wireshark to see what was actually being sent with the API call).1 point

Hey @Luke Download works great now with admin account as well. Thanks a lot for the fix and the excellent job in general. Cheers1 point

I made a longer post in the Tools forum about an open source project I've written for connecting an LLM to an Emby server. I'm posting here in case it's of interest to anyone who doesn't venture out of this general forum.1 point

I updated to the latest beta and now the issue is resolved. Maybe some problem with ffmpeg. Thanks!1 point

In my bilingual collection, manually picking my preferred track each time is tedious. Please add a setting to automatically select, for example, English audio and subtitles for the entire library, and if the user wants, to they can select the secondary tracks with other languages.1 point

I would also appreciate it if an option were created for experienced users to use parallel conversions. I have a Ugreen DXP 8800 Plus Intel® Core™ i5-1235U processor 64GB RAM Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics RAID 6 8x Toshiba MG08 16 TB Enterprise HDD RAID 1 2x WD RED SN700 NVME SSDs for Emby as cache and other Docker containers. My system would definitely be able to handle more than one conversion I hope this option will be available in the future.1 point

Adding this to your local server, will add the section for any other device, but it won't be able to render it because the part under `homesections.js` belongs to different environments. Logging in via app.emby.media also won't show the new section, because the global emby .html/.js-files haven't been modified. Logging in via your local server or local IP should allow you to see (and configure) this section. Thank you! Can you maybe change the title of this topic from "Smart Playlists" to "Homescreen random Genre-based sliders" or such? This method does not create any playlists but basically uses the same overviews a user would get to search for specific media.1 point

There is nothing wrong with it. I personally would use a page setup for large libraries. An option to choose would be cool.1 point

Hi all, I have created a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that connects Emby to an AI client such as Claude Desktop. Think of it as a DIY version of Amazon Alexa (tm) that works with any MCP compliant LLM and operates on your own private media collection. This was a learning project to explore MCP and code for the first time in Python (I've been a long-time coder in other languages). It is built using the Emby client SDK and the MCP Server SDK. It runs locally to the AI client on your PC/Mac (not as an Emby server plugin). Current features: Log on to & log out of an Emby media server; Retrieve a list of media libraries; Select a specified library; Retrieve a list of genres used in that library; Search for items in that library by genre, title, album, release year, and lyrics/description - returns rich metadata per item; Retrieve playlists, create new playlists, add items to playlists & re-order them, and share playlists with other Emby users; Retrieve a list of accessible media players known to Emby; Retrieve the current play queue of a specified media player; Control the playing, pausing, seeking, etc of a specified media player, including transferring the queue to another player. I've released it under GPL at https://github.com/angeltek/Emby.MCP if anyone is interested in playing with it. Detailed instructions are provided. I'll post a (long) demo transcript as a reply so as to keep this post tidy.1 point

The "standard" app does have an improved player that does clear up a number of playback glitches and, eventually, I understand it is destined to replace the Android for TV app BUT it is clumsy for me to use and I discovered that most of the playback problems I have had could be cleared up by using playback correction accessed by pressing the down arrow during playback and choosing settings and then playback correction. The new app does work OK and is useable but it is clumsy to use and it does not have labels under the posters in the next up row. It seems Emby thinks the pictures and having info at the top of the page is enough. But it would be good to be able to see both the poster and the name at the same time. There are also many other places where the new app behaves clumsily or is counter intuitive. I do NOT recommend the new app but I also understand we will all be forced to use it sometime fairly soon. I keep both installed on my Shield but I only use the older app 99% of the time for now. It keeps me from yelling at the TV as much and that keeps peace between me and my dog. BTW: It has been weeks since I had a playback glitch using the old app so either the old app has had improvements to its player or the videos I have been playing are simply "better" than the ones I ran into problems with.1 point

I was doing some research and unfortunately I'm afraid that there's nothing more you can do on the individual strm files than insert the link, but you can adopt workarounds by creating scripts or proxies or plugins that can make the http request with user agent or various other things and recover the real stream. I think the emby community has been asked to provide the ability to perform this kind of operation but it has probably not been studied or implemented yet. Hispa1 point

Do you use https? I found an instability issue for https and will be fixed in next 12.X version. However, not sure it's related to the issue you reported.1 point

I was just going to make a bug report about this. The show login screen will reprompt users for their password. We all use a password manager with long passwords. This is not ideal at all. A good user experience would be akin to Netflix user switching. I have it set so users are hidden until they login for the first time. Afterwards user switching should be possible while respecting their PIN settings (if set). We need this functionality for all apps, and it should be the default setting as that is what users expect. Also, minimizing the app and then opening it again immediately doesn’t go to login screen. You have to wait a while for this to happen. I think the moment the app is minimized it should go back to user selection similar to Plex. We need defaults that make sense and work as users expect from a streaming service. And yes, I’ve seen devs claim Emby isn’t a streaming service from a technical standpoint in terms of how streaming works under the hood, but for all intents and purposes my users see Emby as a streaming service so it should mimic expected behavior.1 point

Such as custom images that I could upload and shows up limited with a click button and saved for non-admin users. For ex, when clicking "Edit profile image" on Netflix or Disney+, it pops up a page with different images so that users can select and it gets saved.1 point

I can confirm that this isn't working the way you're describing it. I'm set up almost exactly this way and Emby still clears out my metadata. The docker container has the root of all of my media mounted like so: --volume /mnt/nasdata/media:/mnt/media Then in Emby, I added a 'Movies' library that points to /mnt/media/movies And a 'TV' library that points to /mnt/media/tv My NAS lost power, my Emby server was brought online while the NAS was still offline, then the NAS was brought back online, and now Emby is taking all day to scan folders and download all the metadata.1 point

Scrolling through hundreds of items in one endless list feels slow. Maybe add a setting where the user can specify the amount of media per page or disable it.0 points
