Hi everyone, long time premiere user here, first time posting on these forums. I apologize in advance if this is the wrong section to post this. I have searched and haven't really found a detailed solution like this posted. I'm running on Linux mint 22.1 with Emby server 4.8.11.0 I have a solution to a problem that had been haunting me for a while now and maybe some users can benefit from this information. My main issue I was experiencing was very choppy/ stuttery play back on some HEVC encoded movies. Specifically the movies encoded by RARBG in 1080p x265 with the .mp4 file extension. I didn't experience this issue in the older server versions before version 4.8.11.0 because I clearly remember playing these movies on earlier server versions without issues. This issue was present when using the 1st and 2nd generation of the Amazon Fire Stick 4k Max on multiple tv's using Emby for Android 3.4.74. I don't know if it's something about these specific movies from RARBG that's not playing well with the newest version of the app or what, because they all play fine in VLC on my desktop. All movies were playing in Direct Play mode when I experienced the choppy playback, and transcoding fixed the issue temporarily, but was not a permanent fix good enough for me. Oddly enough, these movies played back fine on my Android phone using the same app version 3.4.74, but did not playback well on my fire sticks, I can't explain why. I did try out Plex, but still had the same playback issue. Here's the permanent solution that worked for me: I discovered that by remuxing the affected .mp4 files in a program called MKVToolNix solved all my playback issues. This program re-packages the raw video and audio into an MKV container. It also creates a fresh, clean indexing information (important for playback). You can also include any external subtitles all packaged into the new .mkv file. After solving the playback of 1 movie, my next issue was repeating the same process for the rest of my big library of encoded RARBG movies. I used AI to help me write a simple script that uses the command line version of MKVToolNix that searches for any .mp4 file in a folder and subfolders, and remuxes every .mp4 file it finds (and includes external subtitles). After the successful remux and creation of the new mkv movie file , the script deletes the input .mp4 to save space (never do this without a backup just in case). This whole process took my desktop over 90 hours to complete a library of over 1400 affected files, but it was successful and I can now watch every single movie without playback issues. If you have internal hard drives or ssd's I'm sure this process will be much quicker. I hope this helps someone that is experiencing playback issues. If you have any questions about my solution let me know. I want to say thank you to the Emby team for all the hard work you do, this is a fantastic app that I use daily!1 point

I'm wondering why the bit rate goes from 26mbps to 39mbps with just a change of container and no video transcoding... Paul1 point

I went ahead and made an entry for the movie in TVDB. Had to pull some description and other info from other websites. Hope this helps! Edit: Added the movie poster. TVDB ID is 367800.1 point

If you look in the plugins forum, some folks have created more overlay icons.1 point

Just poking back in to see if you were still hoping to look into this? If not absolutely no worries - I've been picking up development quite a bit lately and could start taking a look into a new solution. Just didn't want to recreate something if you had something underway still. Also, I would imagine this could only work on web browsers or such? Since the third party plugins I've seen aren't allowed on store apps, since that would have to be something Emby devs release themselves? Cheers!1 point

Hi, we're going to have an updated ffmpeg build on the server beta channel in the near future, so stay tuned for that. Thanks.1 point

Hi, not exactly, no. You would just have to view them in the web interface and scroll. It's possible that switching to table view might help you see more at a time.1 point

The new version is up on the GitHub - EmbyIcons. Addded: A preview to to settings menu. HDR10+ detection, please note that due to limitations in Emby this only works by detecting "hdr10+" or "hdr10plus" (case insensitive) in the file names. This will only be shown if there is an icon named hdr10plus,.jpg (replace .jpg with any image format) in the icons folder. Changed: The settings menu to be better looking and more user friendly. Fixed: Improved TV Show caching. Please report any potential problems to me and i will look at it asap. Many thanks for all the help with the testing!!1 point

The lack of transparency on this subject made me jump to another provider for music. Emby is great for media other than music. This post was created November 1, 2017. And the answer we get from Emby in 2025 is... It is comical at this stage. Just say its not coming or give the community a valid reason why not, I get it you are maybe working hard on other features / fixes, but, you are not dealing drugs here and a little honesty and clarity would have been much appreciated.1 point

Perfect, sometimes the solution is right in front of your eyes...;) So it's better now...and you can clearly distinguish 4k from the normal (1080p,720p & SD)... Thank you very much..!!!!1 point

Sorry if i have misunderstood you but what i think you mean should be fixed in this version. I had made a bug by mistake in the drawing logic that totally messed it up, that plus the preview in the settings didn't work 100% correctly either. It should all be fixed in this version, if not then please report back. EmbyIcons.dll1 point

Update: Gracenote have responded saying that these WYCU-LD channels are not in their database and cannot therefore be added to the lineup for zip code 03603. I have now raised "new channel" requests for each of these for their consideration.1 point

TranscodeReasons=VideoFramerateNotSupported "AverageFrameRate":23.995483,"RealFrameRate":150 This happens when the MP4 container has a variable framerate. It likely can play this item directly on the Roku but it throws off the auto-detection when the framerate expands. The server believes the framerate is too high since the Roku reports a maximum of 60. When you convert it to MKV it fixes the issue by setting the header correctly for the framerate.1 point

CONFIRMED TERRAMASTER APP BUG Working with a brand new Terramaster (specifically the all-SSD F8 pro). The Emby app when installed on the NAS redirects web browsers to its default port, 8181. (Note: In my installation Emby is installed at address 192.168.1.18) This bug - which prevents running Emby on the necessary port to have Emby Premiere properly recognized - occurs even if one attempts to create an in-app Terramaster desktop URL link with the correct Emby port (such as 192.168.1.18:8096). Terramaster then inserts the 8181 port and creates this URL for the shortcut: http://192.168.1.18:8181/tos/192.168.1.18:8096, which is impossible to execute. The only solution I have found, per the above, is to create a main-system shortcut (such as on the Windows desktop) to, e.g, http://192.1.168.18:8096. So, the Terramaster Emby app, at least the current Terramaster store app version 4.8.10.0, is bugged. I hope Emby will get Terramaster to fix the app. Attempting to install the latest app version for Terramaster directly from Emby's web site (a later version than on the Terramaster app store), version 4.8.11.0, replicates the same problem, except that Emby won't open even when the address is manually altered to port 8096 (instead of the default address of 8181). This may be because I am running Terramaster OS version 6, while the app on the Emby website says it is for OS version 05. So: - There is no way to install the Emby web site's latest app (4.8.11.0) if running the latest Terramaster OS (version 6). - We can install the prior app version (4.8.10.0) from the Terramaster app store, but then there is no way to run it or bookmark it from the Terramaster built-in desktop or app list. - It IS possible to run that installed app version 4.8.10.0 from a main desktop app incorporating the 8096 - or just manually changing the address in a web browser to http://192.168.1.18:8096. (I have not been able to get it to work on a secure address, https://192.168.1.18: 8920.1 point

Thumbnail creation (or better download) works like a charm in most cases, when it comes to movies or tv-shows. Obiviously this can't be the case for music videos, tv recordings (selfmade) etc. In most cases, the default thumbnail showing a snapshot from the start of the file the result isn't really great. To get better thumbs, I play the specific video, pause it where I want and take a screenshot, saving it to a file which I then upload to as primary picture to the specific item. It would be great to have a menu item allowing to save a currently paused frame as thumb for the video directly. Marc1 point
