  1. OK sorry for the delay. I knew that, admittedly directories are something I am not real familiar with. It just didn't click at first. Unfortunately it gets worse. I did everything including modifying the fstab file and realized I had done it all on my laptop not my server. Facepalm!!! I repeated everything again on my server and it seems fixed at the moment. Weirdly some of the watched selected media stayed watched and some I know I have watched did not stay watched. I will also have to modify some of the metadata since some of my media is mislabeled but assuming it continues to see my media I think everything is back to how it should be. Thank you Q-Droid and TMCsw.

  3. Ah thanks for pointing that out. But when I created this topic i was using os.com domain's account because it was working and suddenly stopped working last month. Then I mistakenly recreated the account on their .org site (it was my bad). Now I restored my old account from .com and it's working fine. @Lukesorry for overlooking. Whatever the JS challenge I was experiencing is no longer an issue. However, if you're ok to take a feedback, can you mention this in your plugin configuration? Instead of "This must be your Open Subtitles username and not your email address." something like "This must be your opensubtitles.com username and not your email address." Thanks @Neminemappreciate your input.

  5. Hello everyone, I propose integrating a Tailscale-like functionality directly into Emby clients and servers to facilitate remote connections without the necessity of a non CGNAT connection or opening up home firewalls and the security concerns that entails. While starting a Tailscale client is relatively straightforward for most tech-savvy individuals, it becomes less intuitive on devices like TVs (where it can't be autorun), often causing confusion among users. To circumvent this, I typically set up a NanoPI as a proxy for remote users, directing their Emby client to it. However, if the open sourced Tailscale client were integrated into Emby, clients could transparently connect from any location with an internet connection. I understand that this integration would require significant effort, but I believe it would be a highly utilized and defining Premiere feature, attracting users from other Emby alternatives. Running the Emby server itself with the linuxserver.io docker mod is already straightforward, and the server can be easily referred to by a simple name rather than by an IP address or a lengthy FQDN. https://tailscale.dev/blog/docker-mod-tailscale Anyway, food for thought. Keep up the good work.

  6. Hi everyone, I’m just curious how the messaging system in Emby Server works. When I send messages to users from the dashboard, especially users who are using the web client, they usually don’t seem to notice or receive them. It’s not really a problem, more of a question out of interest. I’m wondering: Are messages only shown during playback? Does the web client support all types of messages (like popups or toasts)? Are there differences in how messages show up between web and other clients (like Android TV or mobile apps)? Is there a delay, or do users need to be in a certain part of the interface to see them? In the logs I do see a line like this when sending a message: Info App: Entry point completed: Emby.Notifications.NotificationManagerEntryPoint. Duration: 0.0105766 seconds So it looks like something is being triggered, but I’m not sure what happens after that or where it should appear for the user. Just trying to understand what the expected behavior is and how other users are using this feature effectively.

  7. I would like to have the option to display subtitles outside the "video frame" at the bottom of the screen, regardless of movie format. Currently Plex, Jellyfin and also KODI offer this possibility, with Emby being the only left out, and the only reason I am not using Emby as my primary media server. Kodi does have the best implementation options: The forum discussion for reference:

  9. I just noticed this morning that the sort function selection pulldown is now missing the "Date Added" selection in the list. I use the Android version on my Fire Sticks and my phone. As of this morning, the Fire Stick Android Version is 3.4.72, while my phone app is Android Version 3.4.70, which still has the "Date Added" selection available. My LG TV Emby Version 1.0.16 still has the "Date Added" selection, as does the Windows Version 2.234.2.0. This must have just happened in the last day or so, as I usually sort my Movies by Date Added, to keep my most recent additions at the top of the display. I assume this was a slip of the coding mistake for the version revision, I'm hoping... The first attached photo is the Android 3.4.72 app on my Fire stick showing the sort list missing the "Date Added" selection. The second image is a screen grab of the Windows App with the "Date Added" still present, as it is currently on the other devices. Please advise. Thanks, Dave

  10. Unfortunately yes, remove library, preform full scan to clear the items from the database, ensure nfo files do not exist, readd library. Basically since it affect the person in Movie and TV libraries you would have to do both. Now if it is only this person then you would just need to remove that specific media shown on said person. You may have to manually delete the person from the /metadata/people/t/actor name folder.

  11. Hi there, Emby will create Artists from the embedded metadata in your individual music (song) files. You can find out more basic information here: https://emby.media/support/articles/Music-Naming.html I'd recommend using Mp3tag (or similar) to check both Artist and Album Artist fields/tags, at a minimum. If you change the info just within Emby and then rescan you music library later on, then Emby may revert to the original embedded metadata in your files and import this back into your Emby database. Beyond just the Artist and Album Artist tags, you may want to research MusicBrainz IDs and how these are used by Emby...

  12. You'll have to check how some of the media was tagged. I noticed for my RHCP collection that a couple albums had The in the name and I manually changed it.

  13. Thanks for the response, Luke. I did some sound equipment testing and discovered that the sound fields settings in my surround sound stereo receiver where not auto detecting AAC formats correctly. I now think this is a non-Emby issue. I can manually set the stereo field mode and it works great. Dang, I guess I will have to wonder down the the electronics store and get the latest model. 18. OK, @Happy2Playafter much aggravation, i have worked this one out, i dropped a library and rebuilt it, still had the same problem, i then noticed it only existed in the main movie and tv libraries, the lesser used libraries were fine, so i figured it had to be a setting and went forensic on them and found the culprit. With this setting turned off (see screenshot) all cover images came in at the low and weirdly stupid resolution. I turned this back on and woohoo we were back to full HD cover being auto downloaded.

  20. Just tested on AndroidTV v2.1.26g and my ATSC3 channels are NO longer working. As I mentioned, they’ve always been finicky but they eventually played. Not today…just the spinning circle. It shows up as "Now Playing" in the dashboard and shows stats in the HDHR Flex 4k Tuner Status, but no playback. So at this point, +1 for ATSC3 playback in Android for Emby. Although it doesn’t have sound (yet), it starts playing video almost immediately and the picture quality is excellent!

  21. I'll pitch in here with my perspective as a software developer and lifelong music listener. Back in 2023 I evaluated Emby and Jellyfin (Docker containers) on my TrueNAS SCALE (now CE) server and an ancient Primate NP5 DLNA device. The NP5's DLNA implementation had some issues which didn't seem to affect Jellyfin but the device would not work with Emby. I was able to borrow a different DLNA device so that I could evaluate both Jellyfin and Emby (and briefly, a few others) over the course of a couple of months. At some point during that time I had to return the borrowed DLNA device and so had to use Jellyfin exclusively for a few weeks. What I found in Emby was a well thought out and consistent and reliable media server and with few, if any, rough edges. Jellyfin in contrast really did feel more amateur,, clearly lagging behind in terms of basic reliability and features. I reported the NP5 issue to the Emby dev team and they were fantastic, building in a workaround to that old and now obsolete device. They didn't have to do that. The result is that Emby has been reliably working in my system since then and I use it every day. I immediately bought a lifetime licence in order to support further development and show gratitude. Open or closed source, free or paid does not define the quality of a software product. There are good and terrible examples of all of those. If someone's value system directs them to use open source software exclusively then that is of course okay but that means nothing about software quaity. Ditto if someone prefers paid software instead of free. What it comes down to is the quality of the product, regardless of whether it's free or paid, open or closed source. For me, Emby wins easily. Jellyfin's popularity is baffling; it's mentioned so often by people when Emby is far superior. Seems like ideology instead of objective analysis is dictating decisions and that is never a good thing.

  22. So after I read your very valid questions, I dived into it and looked up documentations for Sonarr and ran several tests with different tags. Turns out, it was pure coincidence that Jellyfin appeared to read the tags, but in reality it wasn't. It was a mix of Maximum allowed parental rating and the manual tags added from Emby that was reading when the rating was turned off. In other words, Sonarr doesn't save the tags in .nfo somewhere separate, as I used to think. Sorry for the trouble, have a nice day.

  25. Found another code error. v. 1.06c with corrections The Promo slide up animation needs the borders animated and removed to make a smooth finish. The slight hiccup jump, at the end of the animation, is fixed. Animation start time fix: (You might want a morning coffee before reading... ) I also noticed you cannot use a variable to change the percent value of when the animation starts. Drat! But, you can still adjust when the animation starts, by going to the bottom part of the CSS file and change the percentage in two sections of @keyframes after line 3770. The default setting is 90%. Changing to 80%, for example, will give you a longer animation. Just to be clear, this middle percent is the when the animation will start. If you have set when the Promo slide up ends (--hpPromoSlideRowsupEnds) to 10 seconds. Making the middle percentage 80% means the animation slide up will start at 8 seconds. The default Promo Slide up Ends is set to 14 seconds. In this case, 90% means the slide up animation starts at 12.6 seconds and lasts 1.4 seconds. If you changed both middle percentages to 80%, then the slide up animation would start at 11.2 seconds and last 2.8 seconds. I set the Promo Slide Up Ends time longer, if there is a lot to read in the Promo image. I like 24s and 90% for my site. (Some browsers need the @-webkit-keyframes. Most browsers just read the @keyframes section.) The two numbers to change in this code excerpt, below, are the 90% values. Lower means animation starts sooner and lasts longer. There are charts in the guide to help you pick whatever combination of Promo Slide up End seconds and this Animation Start percentage. The State Street Theater Guide is available, just above. Did you download it? This new percentage update is not yet in the guide. Wow, another thing to update! @keyframes slideupRows { 0% { min-height: var(--hpPromoMinHeight); margin-top: var(--hpPromoMarginTop); opacity:var(--hpPromoOpacity); border-width: var(--hpPromoBorderWidth); } 90% { min-height: var(--hpPromoMinHeight); margin-top: var(--hpPromoMarginTop); opacity:var(--hpPromoOpacity); border-width: var(--hpPromoBorderWidth); } 100% { min-height: 0; margin-top: var(--hpPromoTopMarginTotal); opacity: var(--hpPromoOpacityFinsh); border-width: 0; } /* Local variable: --hpPromoTopMarginTotal = --hpTopMargin -24px minus 6 px border of image (2* --hpPromoBorderWidth) = -30px. */ } @-webkit-keyframes slideupRows { 0% { min-height: var(--hpPromoMinHeight); margin-top: var(--hpPromoMarginTop); border-width: var(--hpPromoBorderWidth); } 90% { min-height: var(--hpPromoMinHeight); margin-top: var(--hpPromoMarginTop); border-width: var(--hpPromoBorderWidth); } 100% { min-height: 0; margin-top: var(--hpPromoTopMarginTotal); opacity: var(--hpPromoOpacityFinsh); border-width: 0; } } OK, all for now... 27. We are now 15 months into the 4.9 development cycle. The 4.8 development cycle lasted 22 months. When 4.8 was released the Emby team hinted at smaller more frequent releases but only time will tell. There are some key features promised as part of 4.9 that we have yet to see so I suspect it will be some time before a stable 4.9 is released.
    1 point
  28. Your answer effectively amounts to, 'it will come when it comes'. the current beta updates are minor...there is zero visibility on when 4.9 is no longer beta. There is zero visibility on when TVNext features will be released. If you consider that to 'fully answer' the question, well then, we have different definitions of 'fully answered'.

  29. Really hoping for an update on smart playlists in 4.9 or even better yet some engagement or limited beta that canvases for input. My worry is that after this long wait the implementation isn't what users have been asking for.

  30. When it comes to managing and streaming your personal media collection, Emby stands out as a favorite among home media enthusiasts. Whether you're a cord-cutter, a collector, or just someone who wants full control over your content, Emby delivers. But don’t just take our word for it — recently we took a look around the Emby Community Forums, Reddit, and other media server discussions to find out what users love most. Here are the features Emby users say they can’t live without: 1. Active Development and Plugin Ecosystem The Emby dev team has built a strong reputation for listening to users and delivering consistent improvements. Feature requests are often acknowledged in forums, and updates come regularly. The Emby Plugin Catalog includes tools for metadata management, intro skipping, trakt.tv syncing, theme music, and more — making it easy to expand your setup. 2. Emphasis on Privacy and Local Control Unlike some competitors, Emby doesn’t force users into cloud integration or tracking services. Features like Trakt and others are optional, and you’re never required to give up control of your data. This focus on local-first architecture makes Emby a great option for privacy-conscious users who want full control over their media experience. 3. Customization and Theming From custom libraries to visual themes, Emby offers a highly customizable user interface. Users can choose how metadata is displayed, organize content into rich collections, or apply unique visual themes and CSS tweaks. For families or multi-user households, Emby also supports user profiles with individual settings and parental controls. 4. Direct Play and Efficient Transcoding Emby is built to take full advantage of Direct Play, reducing the need for CPU-intensive transcoding. For devices that require conversion, transcoding is efficient and can be customized for quality and bitrate. If you’re running a hardware-accelerated setup with Intel Quick Sync, NVIDIA NVENC, or AMD VCE, Emby can offload transcoding for better performance. 5. Live TV & DVR Integration One of Emby's most appreciated features is its native support for Live TV and DVR. Whether you're using a TV tuner or loading an M3U playlist from an IPTV provider, Emby makes it easy to stream live television directly from your server. With season pass recording, time-based scheduling, and automatic commercial skipping (with optional plugins), Emby turns your home server into a powerful personal PVR. Bonus: Multi-Platform Support From Android TV, Apple TV, and Firestick, to iOS, macOS, Windows, and even Linux, Emby has apps for nearly every device. And with Emby Theater, you get a lean-back experience optimized for the big screen. Final Thoughts What makes Emby stand out isn't just its feature list — it's the freedom and flexibility it offers to its users. Whether you’re building a streaming server for your family, archiving physical media, or curating a collection for your home theater, Emby puts you in charge. Ready to try it yourself? Download Emby Server and see why so many users are making the switch. View the full article

  31. New version 1.06 with several new features There are new complicated features with this update. Customize the home page menu, text area color themes, each row differently. There is now a Promo Banner image for the home page. CSS styling makes it quite tricky to do and I can imagine the first response is to request an option to link directly to a page, or show a trailer. Well, you need javascript and some html page updates to do that. CSS does not let you. So, those extras will have to wait for an official Emby update. The Promo Banner image starts quite large at 580px height. It also automatically rolls up and fades away after 14 seconds. The height, the timing, the border colors, the rounded corners, an optional hover image for (computer users) can all be changed to whatever you like. The method is still editing inside the CSS file. An interactive GUI click and choose from dropdown menus would be nice. That's not CSS. Again, you would need a proper update with changes in javascript. Since it is now getting comically complex, I've included an illustrated pdf guide, which still makes it complex, but at least the images are colorful... Also, the guide can be very useful if you want to fall asleep at night, just print it out and read a few pages... Ha! There are still some issues to fix for mobile users. This release does fix several buttons and alignments. I will be stuck trying to fix everything. I only have two phone sizes and the browser simulations of mobile sizes are not perfect. If anyone would like to volunteer to go through the pages on their phone and see what needs help, you can always do that and report back here. Thanks. I hope people enjoy using the Promo banner image. You can make it the size you like and the animation rollup and fade away seems to work well and looks sort of cool. As always, comments are welcome. 32. I was just going to make a bug report about this. The show login screen will reprompt users for their password. We all use a password manager with long passwords. This is not ideal at all. A good user experience would be akin to Netflix user switching. I have it set so users are hidden until they login for the first time. Afterwards user switching should be possible while respecting their PIN settings (if set). We need this functionality for all apps, and it should be the default setting as that is what users expect. Also, minimizing the app and then opening it again immediately doesn’t go to login screen. You have to wait a while for this to happen. I think the moment the app is minimized it should go back to user selection similar to Plex. We need defaults that make sense and work as users expect from a streaming service. And yes, I’ve seen devs claim Emby isn’t a streaming service from a technical standpoint in terms of how streaming works under the hood, but for all intents and purposes my users see Emby as a streaming service so it should mimic expected behavior.

If you want to get resolution, I can do this, but it is superslow. So now it is disabled for better performance. There is cache for 1 month. If movie is made by year as now, there is 14 days cache. Within two months after the premiere is, there is 7 days cache. API is hosted via free hosting, so please dont blame me for speed. On my VPS it can parse about 10seconds with 50 images with hires resolution.
