  1. Really hoping for an update on smart playlists in 4.9 or even better yet some engagement or limited beta that canvases for input. My worry is that after this long wait the implementation isn't what users have been asking for.

  2. When it comes to managing and streaming your personal media collection, Emby stands out as a favorite among home media enthusiasts. Whether you're a cord-cutter, a collector, or just someone who wants full control over your content, Emby delivers. But don’t just take our word for it — recently we took a look around the Emby Community Forums, Reddit, and other media server discussions to find out what users love most. Here are the features Emby users say they can’t live without: 1. Active Development and Plugin Ecosystem The Emby dev team has built a strong reputation for listening to users and delivering consistent improvements. Feature requests are often acknowledged in forums, and updates come regularly. The Emby Plugin Catalog includes tools for metadata management, intro skipping, trakt.tv syncing, theme music, and more — making it easy to expand your setup. 2. Emphasis on Privacy and Local Control Unlike some competitors, Emby doesn’t force users into cloud integration or tracking services. Features like Trakt and others are optional, and you’re never required to give up control of your data. This focus on local-first architecture makes Emby a great option for privacy-conscious users who want full control over their media experience. 3. Customization and Theming From custom libraries to visual themes, Emby offers a highly customizable user interface. Users can choose how metadata is displayed, organize content into rich collections, or apply unique visual themes and CSS tweaks. For families or multi-user households, Emby also supports user profiles with individual settings and parental controls. 4. Direct Play and Efficient Transcoding Emby is built to take full advantage of Direct Play, reducing the need for CPU-intensive transcoding. For devices that require conversion, transcoding is efficient and can be customized for quality and bitrate. If you’re running a hardware-accelerated setup with Intel Quick Sync, NVIDIA NVENC, or AMD VCE, Emby can offload transcoding for better performance. 5. Live TV & DVR Integration One of Emby's most appreciated features is its native support for Live TV and DVR. Whether you're using a TV tuner or loading an M3U playlist from an IPTV provider, Emby makes it easy to stream live television directly from your server. With season pass recording, time-based scheduling, and automatic commercial skipping (with optional plugins), Emby turns your home server into a powerful personal PVR. Bonus: Multi-Platform Support From Android TV, Apple TV, and Firestick, to iOS, macOS, Windows, and even Linux, Emby has apps for nearly every device. And with Emby Theater, you get a lean-back experience optimized for the big screen. Final Thoughts What makes Emby stand out isn't just its feature list — it's the freedom and flexibility it offers to its users. Whether you’re building a streaming server for your family, archiving physical media, or curating a collection for your home theater, Emby puts you in charge. Ready to try it yourself? Download Emby Server and see why so many users are making the switch.

  3. Hello, I would like to request the ability to change the default trailer link assigned when adding a movie. Often, the selected trailer is in low quality or in another language, which is not ideal. It would be great to have an option to add a custom YouTube link, such as a button or a feature labeled "Change Trailer" or something similar. This would significantly enhance the user experience. Thank you!

  4. Hi, The current implementation of Emby search is very basic. Based on what I can tell, it only matches exact strings in the same exact order. Example: "Mission: Impossible" In this example the following queries will return a positive match Possible Impossible Mission Mission: Impossible And the following queries will not return anything at all (The worst offenders are highlighted) Mission Impossible Missoin: Imposible Imposible Impossible Mission Mission : Impossible Mission Impossible Another example would be "Mr. Robot" where if the dot is missing, nothing is returned or in general terms any variation of any string that is not an exact match will not return anything at all. Let's not even attempt to try a title like "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.". This makes the search difficult to use and at times even frustrating. As the examples above show, the major theme is special characters and punctuation and they can probably be bypassed by just ignoring them, which might or might not cause other problems in the process. This problem also affects titles that have letters with diacritical marks or glyphs such as "Amélie" and "Æon Flux", if you can't type them exactly, you can't find them. In my opinion a better attempt would be to use a difference string matching algorithm such as Levenshtein distance, you can then define an acceptable threshold and return the closest matches. I found a couple of C# projects that implement this and might be useful as a starting point. FuzzyWuzzy, a port of Python project in C#. https://github.com/BoomTownRoi/BoomTown.FuzzySharp FuzzyString. Has some additional string comparison algorithms too. https://github.com/kdjones/fuzzystring Thanks.

  5. I would like to have the option to display subtitles outside the "video frame" at the bottom of the screen, regardless of movie format. Currently Plex, Jellyfin and also KODI offer this possibility, with Emby being the only left out, and the only reason I am not using Emby as my primary media server. Kodi does have the best implementation options: The forum discussion for reference:

  6. Ok, so the APN of my phone was set to IPV4. Switched it to IPV4+IPV6. Now it's working on mobile connection. On my girlfriend's phone it was set to IPV4/IPV6. So that's the reason it was working there. Still not working in browser (neither on W-Lan nor mobile). That's not really needed though, of course.

  7. I can only wonder if the connections that are working with DNS/DDNS are resolving to an IPv6 address. The ISP shouldn't have limits or restrictions with IPv6 like they do with IPv4. Edit to add: You should check if this is the case and if you have IPv6 disabled on some devices.

  8. It is. For TV shows it's actually mandatory (the only way to have local TV show trailers).

  9. Not sure how Apple TV is any different than Android/Fire TV? And to me, "Full Playback" means playing HDR movies in HDR mode automatically.

  10. @swallman Well Apple Tv is NOT a premier app... Only if you want to watch Live TV, and that a server premier feature. Emby Premiere Feature Matrix | Emby Documentation

  12. Never mind, it turns out downloads are a feature of Emby premiere. I didn't get anything informing me of this when trying to do a download, it just says 'queued' without anything telling me I need to have the premier subscription.

  13. That's the whole thing though - as a PAYING Emby customer, I'd expect them to have an application the Apple TV that works properly! Infuse can do it, Channels DVR can do it, Plex can do it (etc.) So yes, still a cop-out. You can tell that the devs at Emby just don't seem to care about other platforms.

  14. That's a cop-out/excuse. I can name any number of other Apple TV players that have no issues with this.

  15. The hold up is the Apple TV is a piece of crap that is not friendly to programmers who attempt to use it for playing stuff outside of the Apple ecosystem. There is a reason Android devices are so much easier to use.

  16. I'm not sure how to fix that, other that edit the library.db. But making errors while doing so can make bad, really bad. If you go down that road, shutdown the server, and make a copy of it, before doing anything else. Adding : But I have never done this, so can't really help you here.

  17. Your subnet is valid but "non-standard" for private IPs and it's unclear exactly how Emby determines and filters for the subnet when left blank. You're not doing anything wrong though it might be unexpected. Telling it what you have instead of letting it guess might be worth a shot.

  18. @RafaGdid you use the backup / restore plugin ? It look like you path got messed up /var/lib/emby/data\collections Marked in red, loks like a windows path thing. As you migrated from windows to linux. And hence this error System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path '/var/lib/emby/data\collections'. Its not currently supported, AFAIK.

  19. This is a legacy/really old issue as that is an obsolete path as collections were moved to metadata/collections a long time ago (I believe 4.6). Is it affecting any of your Collections as they should be in /metadata/collections now? On Dashboard-Library does it show a path on the collections library? But will guess you will have to use the api to delete if unless you manually poke around in the database. @Lukewill need to confirm but think you would just remove the current one. Somewhat covered here but note removing the Collections library will delete all the content from the Emby /collections folder so if you have say custom artwork/metadata you will want to copy it and manually put it back in /metadata/collections.

  20. I solved this problem. When I connected the USB, it was automatically installed without me realizing it, and I thought it wasn't installed, so I connected the USB repeatedly, but there was no response, so I checked the log saved in the USB. Then I found out that it was already installed. Thank you. ps. This is Korea. and TV model is Q60 series.

  23. Hello, is it possible to implement in Emby Quick Connect option like in Jellyfin or other apps for smart tv's? Sometimes it's difficult to put long passwords on some devices. Regards.

  24. My subdomain starts with emby.xxx.yyy and I guess I've been lucky that it hasn't flagged lol. Sorry I misinterpreted the error I thought it was just complaining about the certificate.

  25. If you haven't already then you should close the 8920 port forwarding rule on the router since it's not in use anymore.

  26. It's really up to you how you want to handle the TLS (SSL) connections. Most who use a reverse proxy have TLS termination at the proxy and run the Emby server with HTTP, no certs, using the reverse proxy options in the network settings. Some/few run end-to-end TLS maintaining HTTPS and certs for every segment and the server. Even fewer run HTTPS on LAN. Using Cloudflare's origin cert on a properly configured reverse proxy there's little chance someone could guess your domain or even connect directly to your public IP. Your choice.

  30. REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL FILTER: It would be helpful if the FILTER section also offered an option to filter by screen size (4:3 vs 16:9). The current options do not offer this (screen shot).

  33. Hi Guys, I recently moved from Kodi with MySQL for lack of proper multi user management and server side support, I have to say I'm impressed with Emby. Together with the Kodi Plugin it really takes the solution to a whole new level, count me in among the supporters! One feature I would like to see is the ability to recommend movies or shows to other users: I share my Library with close friends and family but it is a big library so they are always calling me to recommend them a movie to watch. It would be really cool if after watching a movie I can click a Recommend button and choose the users I think would like the movie, then it is displayed on their suggested movies at the top with the name of the user who recommended it... Sorry if there is something like this is already there, I am new to the interface and don't fully know it but could not find such feature... Thanks!
