  1. Why all this VPN suggestions? If his starlink router is in bypass mode and he has connected a second router, he could just manage the ports on the second router.

  2. I'm a big fan of services such as Rifftrax, and I hate having to manually mux files every time I purchase another release. Much in the same way that external subtitle file support was added, it would be nice to have external audio track support for TV and movies added as well. I wouldn't expect Emby to handle the offset calculations needed to sync the audio. It's not too difficult for me to modify that now.

  3. I think that it would be a good idea if Emby rethinks the way it looks at audiobooks. Currently, it would seem that Emby is treating audiobooks in the same way that it treats music. While I understand the ease of this for the programmers, as they basically just use the same a mp3 player as they would with music. I would argue that audiobooks should be treated more as TV series than albums/cds. 1) With an audiobook divided into chapter each chapter would be treated the same way as an episode in a TV series. With Emby marking each chapter as played or not, and remembering where in the chapter that the user stop listening. For those who don’t have their book broken into chapter Openaudio is a great program for this, and I am sure that there are others. 2) Treating each audiobook as an individual series would allow for a continue listening (instead of watching) row on the main page. 3) It would also make it easier to navigate audiobooks as the audiobooks page would first display the books themselves and not the author. Having the ability to sort by author is nice but not a necessity when looking for a title. 4) With treating audiobooks in this manner, one could also then set up “collections” such as “Harry Potter” or “Sherlock Holmes”. 5) Emby would then get rid of the “shuffle” button on the play menu inside of an audiobook, as this is unnecessary in that you don’t shuffle a books chapters (unless someone really wants a head trip) like you would the tracks on a cd.

  18. Indeed. That is seriously a good question. You should find out who you are paying and why they are not giving you what you paid for. Try to see it from our side. These are people who are criminals. This is clearly a pirate organization skimming funds from their unsuspecting users by grifting them while giving the impression they are providing a legitimate service. We are trying to stop these types of people from using Emby for these purposes. The fact you are having problems actually might be part of the design. There are device limits put in place. Those resellers cannot add your device because they are having issues with the device limits. Good. Good for them having problems. Santa Claus has put them on the naughty list and they get coal this year. Try to get in touch with those guys sold you the service and give them your grief. They deserve it. We don't. They deserve to refund your money for those 2 years.

  19. I have infuse lifetime but I don’t like the design and it doesn’t support live tv and multi user. ive also tried Conflux, vidhub and senplayer with Emby but none of them are 100%. They all trigger hdr and dv though…

  20. Yeah that right there is 100% against the terms of service. Your issue is not with Emby, it's with whomever is selling you the illegal access to THEIR server. This is not a support issue for the Emby team, it's for you to deal with your reseller, and you will get no support here.

  22. @radeondidnt want to start a new thread, but if you’re looking at putting theme.mp3 in a sub folder could you also add an option to YTRAILERS to put trailers in a folder called “trailers”. Current naming is fine but same problem exists here as it does with themes. All works fine if you move the file to this subfolder

  27. This is actually one of the few "improvements" that have been suggested that I see no negatives about. I would even like to see the search be able to exclude a library or two. I rarely use the search functionality but I always get some results from libraries that really have nothing to do with what I am searching for. I believe that if I search from inside a library then the results are limited to that library but that is not what I want either as it limits that search to only one library. ex: I would like to search my main TV and my Main movie library but I do not want to include the other libraries I have. I "think" it might be easy to implement but I could easily be wrong as I have not really done any programming since C++ was the latest thing. At least my last programming was not in COBOL. I hope this gets added. For me it is only a small improvement but it is an improvement in the correct direction.

  28. I had the same exact problem about a year ago. I ended up deleting all the tags, restarting the server, then rescan the Library and then I was able to go back and add the tags as uppercase. I'm thinking you only have to delete the lowercase tags not all of them. PS - Depending on the library size give is a couple of hours to overnight to rescan. Patience is a plus here.

  30. Yeah that could be whats causing it. I've tried a few different things but to no avail so far, the same event occurs no matter what at the moment. Seems strange that it only occurs for that particular game also but I guess its just a case of not having them both open at the same time for now.

  33. I do not think it would add much to the user experience but I guess it also would not make any difference to me so, if Emby wants, they can add extra code to the interface. I just do not see any advantage to the change.

  35. With the Dolly Parton Album example, I'd guess that your Album Artist field is blank and also that you have two different Album titles ("Blue Smoke" and "Blue Smoke - The Best Of"). Changing Album Artist to "Dolly Parton" and Album to "Blue Smoke" for all Songs should result in one Album. This can likely easily be fixed with any music tagging software, but I would recommend Mp3tag. Here is how to do it: Load in the Album (Change Directory - green tick folder icon) and Select All the files (blue sheet icon) of the Album. You can then simply manually update the info in the LHS Tag Panel for all songs at once. It's also possible to use Tag Sources to import the data from MusicBrainz if you want to. Note; When you start with Mp3tag the LHS Tag Panel and RHS columns will be the default view, which is a bit different from my customized view shown above - but it will still work the same. Save the required changes in Mp3tag and then Scan the parent folder in Emby to import the changes into Emby. If you are still having Album Artist issues, then View>Extended Tags in Mp3tag to see all tags and check for other possible issues (sometimes there might be both "Album Artist" and "AlbumArtist" tags that are different from each other). Then, just follow the same method for the B&W Live Album... Hopefully that's enough info to get you started? It might seem a bit complicated if you're not familiar with Mp3tag, but it's very easy once you get the hang of it. Let us know how you get on. Cheers!

  37. Contact them. Emby is only providing software, not content. Emby is a client/server system where the content comes from the user, not Emby. I sounds like you are paying someone for access to their server and that violates Emby's TOS and that may be why the server has stopped working as Emby can take down violating servers. But it is still not clear as you have not said where your server resides and you have specifically said it is your server you are trying to connect to. It is a bit ambiguous but it sounds like the server is not actually yours.

  39. Hello, Carlo. I'm a user from Taiwan. I would like to express my disagreement with the decision to treat zh (Chinese) as Simplified Chinese by default in Emby. According to international standards, such as W3C and Unicode CLDR, the tag zh refers to Chinese in a general sense. It must not be assumed to mean Simplified Chinese. Below is a screeshot taken on W3C(https://www.w3.org/International/questions/qa-choosing-language-tags) : Instead: zh-Hans is the correct tag for Simplified Chinese; zh-Hant is the correct tag for Traditional Chinese; And zh by itself is neutral — simply meaning "Chinese", without implying any particular script or regional form. To illustrate with a well-known example: The en tag refers to English in general. It does not automatically mean American English (en-US) or British English (en-GB). The distinction is made explicit by using en-US or en-GB when necessary. Treating zh as equivalent to zh-Hans is just as incorrect as assuming en always means en-US. Defaulting zh to Simplified Chinese disregards the large number of Traditional Chinese users from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and other regions. This choice is both technically inaccurate and culturally insensitive. So, "Chinese" is just fine for zh. Thank you for your attention to proper localization and internationalization support.

  40. @pwhodges: But anyways: Even IF your point (that forced subtiltle tracks would be included in the default ones) were always true (which I acknowledge happens), that would still prove my point, that emby choosing primarily the forced subtitle over an existent default flagged subtitle track when starting the playback still results in the wrong subtitle display (when having "DEFAULT" as subtitle mode). Which then forces an imho unncessary user interaction. You cutting the forced flags out of files is just a workaround for programs that choose the wrong priority for subtitle tracks. So my actual wish for the different cases would be to have this implementation: Check if a file has a forced-flagged subtitle track If yes Check if the file has a default-flagged subtitle track If yes Set subtitle playback track to default subtitle track If no Set subtitle playback track to forced-flagged subtitle track If-End If no (regarding the forced flag track) Check if the file has a default-flagged subtitle track If yes Set subtitle playback track to default subtitle track If no Set subtitle playback track to "null" (no subtitles shown at all) If-End This implementation would regard the subtitle tracks in this order: default flagged track > forced flagged track > no subtitle shown This would create a better experience for everyone independently of forced flag tracks being included in default flagged tracks. And for you, @pwhodges, it would cut off the necessity to remove the forced-flag tracks of your files.

  42. Hey @user24 Thanks a lot! I figured it out, based on what you told me to do... In fact I stumbled upon the solution First, I checked the folder structure and the albums were not there, which pointed again to permissions. But I had checked all the permissions on the FILES over and over... but never crossed my mind to check the permissions for the DIRECTORIES. Then I did (screenshot attached) I saw that "regular" directories had the "+", indicating extended ACLs but the directories I added didn't. So I tried the following: Rename the old directory, adding an appendix, say "-a". Create a new directory with the same name as the old one (minus the prefix of course). These new directories get created with the extended permissions. Moving the files from old to new directory and delete the old one. That fixed the problem. Just had to do it to the directory of every missing album. I went on, looking for the cause. Turns out that: when the Mac's zip program decompresses the file and there's a directory inside, the directory has permissions of its own, and when I move the directory to Synology (which I access via NFS from my mac and NFS keeps permissions on copy), it keeps the original permissions, not adding the extended permissions (indicated by the + sign). Without these permissions, Emby can't see the folders. I managed to reproduce this by re-tracing my steps and decompressing the zips, moving them, etc... Now I'm writing a script to traverse my whole directory tree, looking for directories without the proper permissions and fixing everything. I'll schedule the script to run once a day to find this sort of inconsistency. Thanks a lot @user24! Regards, _______________________ DiabboVerdde

  43. Hi, we are looking into this. Thanks for reporting.

  44. Erik, from an expectation management perspective, the most important thing you can do right now is to restore trust through radical transparency. The situation, as it stands, doesn’t inspire confidence and hasn't for years, but there are some practical steps you can take immediately to start turning that around: Clarify the Beta Timeline People are asking because they care. Avoiding the topic fuels speculation and often negativity no matter how many bugs you squash and how hard the team has worked. If the current beta cycle has a projected end date, share it, even if it's subject to change. What I've learned over the years about SDLC is that it's all about adapting (Agile), but to keep your community and users happy, it also requires to have to have some visibility. Communicate clearly: “The current beta cycle is expected to run until [date], with reviews at each sprint to validate readiness for release.” The Emby team took the first step towards this years ago with the open beta programme, maybe it's time for the next step. Share the Roadmap Does TV-Next have a delivery roadmap? If not, maybe it's time to draft one. It doesn't need to be a rigid Gantt chart, just a high-level view of milestones, sprint goals, and feature releases. If you do have one, make it public (or at least customer-facing). Transparency breeds confidence, and Agile lives, no, thrives on that openness. People understand delays, but they crave honesty and progress tracking, especially for a much anticipated add-on like this. If you're facing blockers or scope creep, say so. Turn the community into your allies by showing them the plan and how you’re adjusting as needed. This can be a limited audience, you do not have to announce this to the whole world. Also, this isn’t about promising perfection. It’s about continuous delivery, fast meaningful feedback, course correction, and keeping your community, which is already very dedicated as a lot have been around here for a decade or more, happy. TL;DR: Set a target end date for the beta phase Publish a delivery roadmap with major milestones Communicate often, adjust openly, and be transparent about what’s next That’s how you manage expectations and keep people engaged.

  45. When it comes to managing and streaming your personal media collection, Emby stands out as a favorite among home media enthusiasts. Whether you're a cord-cutter, a collector, or just someone who wants full control over your content, Emby delivers. But don’t just take our word for it — recently we took a look around the Emby Community Forums, Reddit, and other media server discussions to find out what users love most. Here are the features Emby users say they can’t live without: 1. Active Development and Plugin Ecosystem The Emby dev team has built a strong reputation for listening to users and delivering consistent improvements. Feature requests are often acknowledged in forums, and updates come regularly. The Emby Plugin Catalog includes tools for metadata management, intro skipping, trakt.tv syncing, theme music, and more — making it easy to expand your setup. 2. Emphasis on Privacy and Local Control Unlike some competitors, Emby doesn’t force users into cloud integration or tracking services. Features like Trakt and others are optional, and you’re never required to give up control of your data. This focus on local-first architecture makes Emby a great option for privacy-conscious users who want full control over their media experience. 3. Customization and Theming From custom libraries to visual themes, Emby offers a highly customizable user interface. Users can choose how metadata is displayed, organize content into rich collections, or apply unique visual themes and CSS tweaks. For families or multi-user households, Emby also supports user profiles with individual settings and parental controls. 4. Direct Play and Efficient Transcoding Emby is built to take full advantage of Direct Play, reducing the need for CPU-intensive transcoding. For devices that require conversion, transcoding is efficient and can be customized for quality and bitrate. If you’re running a hardware-accelerated setup with Intel Quick Sync, NVIDIA NVENC, or AMD VCE, Emby can offload transcoding for better performance. 5. Live TV & DVR Integration One of Emby's most appreciated features is its native support for Live TV and DVR. Whether you're using a TV tuner or loading an M3U playlist from an IPTV provider, Emby makes it easy to stream live television directly from your server. With season pass recording, time-based scheduling, and automatic commercial skipping (with optional plugins), Emby turns your home server into a powerful personal PVR. Bonus: Multi-Platform Support From Android TV, Apple TV, and Firestick, to iOS, macOS, Windows, and even Linux, Emby has apps for nearly every device. And with Emby Theater, you get a lean-back experience optimized for the big screen. Final Thoughts What makes Emby stand out isn't just its feature list — it's the freedom and flexibility it offers to its users. Whether you’re building a streaming server for your family, archiving physical media, or curating a collection for your home theater, Emby puts you in charge. Ready to try it yourself? Download Emby Server and see why so many users are making the switch. View the full article

  46. This would be an awesome feature to have. A definite must have in my opinion. I hope the EMBY devs put this on priority status. I believe It would hugely benefit users as well as EMBY as a product. Also, and correct me if I am wrong, but a chat server isn't needed really since people watching remotely will be organizing via phone, text, zoom, google meet, facetime, signal, whatsapp, slack, messenger or whatever likely anyway. I know when we do remote movie parties with family and friends we all connect on an app or phone first and often keep a phone call going through the movie to communicate (shouting, talking, etc.). For me, anyway, just a simple way to gather up the people on EMBY and have the host hit play and have all the clients in the party pool play the movie at the same time would be a killer feature. Thank you.

  48. @Lukeis there a way we can fund the work for this as a community? I'm pretty sure that there is enough interest in this that the community would come together to help pay for this feature. I know I personally would be willing to pay a decent sum to contribute towards the development costs for this. Plex has torched the last thing tying me to their software, and Emby is my next home for my friends and family. I've actually referred another friend of mine here and he plans to get premiere as well. Is there anything that we can do as a community to aid you in bringing this functionality to Emby?
