  1. As mentioned, half a decade of 'soon' really doesn't amount to anything much.

  2. Erik, from an expectation management perspective, the most important thing you can do right now is to restore trust through radical transparency. The situation, as it stands, doesn’t inspire confidence and hasn't for years, but there are some practical steps you can take immediately to start turning that around: Clarify the Beta Timeline People are asking because they care. Avoiding the topic fuels speculation and often negativity no matter how many bugs you squash and how hard the team has worked. If the current beta cycle has a projected end date, share it, even if it's subject to change. What I've learned over the years about SDLC is that it's all about adapting (Agile), but to keep your community and users happy, it also requires to have to have some visibility. Communicate clearly: “The current beta cycle is expected to run until [date], with reviews at each sprint to validate readiness for release.” The Emby team took the first step towards this years ago with the open beta programme, maybe it's time for the next step. Share the Roadmap Does TV-Next have a delivery roadmap? If not, maybe it's time to draft one. It doesn't need to be a rigid Gantt chart, just a high-level view of milestones, sprint goals, and feature releases. If you do have one, make it public (or at least customer-facing). Transparency breeds confidence, and Agile lives, no, thrives on that openness. People understand delays, but they crave honesty and progress tracking, especially for a much anticipated add-on like this. If you're facing blockers or scope creep, say so. Turn the community into your allies by showing them the plan and how you’re adjusting as needed. This can be a limited audience, you do not have to announce this to the whole world. Also, this isn’t about promising perfection. It’s about continuous delivery, fast meaningful feedback, course correction, and keeping your community, which is already very dedicated as a lot have been around here for a decade or more, happy. TL;DR: Set a target end date for the beta phase Publish a delivery roadmap with major milestones Communicate often, adjust openly, and be transparent about what’s next That’s how you manage expectations and keep people engaged.

  3. Beta was supposed to be short this time around but it is turning same as the previous one very disappointing that we can start testing something that was said was ready for long time .

  4. I used to use Plex back in 2016 for about a year and a half before it suddenly stopped working for me. I uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times with no success and decided to switch to Emby. I didn't mind Plex when it worked but when I switched to Emby, I found I preferred Emby. Just read this morning, Plex has doubled it's lifetime subscription price and remote streaming will no longer be free. This now makes Emby a much preferred alternative to Plex. I just hope Emby doesn't follow suit and raise their prices or change functionality. Even if it does, I'm pretty loyal to Emby and would probably still subscribe.

  5. Yes, when you enter your SMB credentials when setting up the library, the 4.8 server has an issue where there are some cases where those credentials don't get utilized.

  6. They have the letter jump implemented as a filter because that's what we had a long time ago. The only reason we did it has a filter way back when was due to technical limitations. Now we're able to just scroll you to the letter that you click on so that you can still see everything.

  7. Hi, this should be resolved in the upcoming 4.9 server release. Thanks.

  8. This is actually one of the few "improvements" that have been suggested that I see no negatives about. I would even like to see the search be able to exclude a library or two. I rarely use the search functionality but I always get some results from libraries that really have nothing to do with what I am searching for. I believe that if I search from inside a library then the results are limited to that library but that is not what I want either as it limits that search to only one library. ex: I would like to search my main TV and my Main movie library but I do not want to include the other libraries I have. I "think" it might be easy to implement but I could easily be wrong as I have not really done any programming since C++ was the latest thing. At least my last programming was not in COBOL. I hope this gets added. For me it is only a small improvement but it is an improvement in the correct direction.

  10. The 8920 port is used if you upload the cert to Emby itself. Otherwise use http and 8096 port and reverse proxy it for https. as for the above message I don’t get that message at all but I also have a random subdomain name instead of emby

  14. What I actually hit on, once I picked up on the hint in Amything's snippet, was /emby/Items?IncludeItemTypes=BoxSet&Recursive=true Seemed to me to be a closer fit - not all users necessarily see all collections and I wanted all. So far it's working well. Cheers!

  21. You'll actually bring it over to the thread that was chronologically first - original FR, preceding linked one by several years; if the OP of that topic (and several others that were merged) actually searched the forum, as stipulated by bold red letters on top of Feature Requests forum, they would've actually added their comments here instead of creating a new topic, in order to keep the discussion focused and not to dilute support (which is inevitable consequence) - single topic with tens of reactions and few pages of discussion is certainly more likely to grab Dev's attention (and subsequently increase likelihood of implementation) than 5 of them with few - or none - likes and half a page of posts scattered over several years. In an ideal world, reactions from all the merged topics could be concatenated/summarized/added to the topic they've been merged to - unfortunately, forum software doesn't allow/there are no provisions for such. Edit: But your comment has been noted, I'll discuss with the Admins internally and we might make the topic with the most reactions as the primary one.

  25. You can count me as preferring the TV app as the standard app is just clumsy to use and has a number of what i think is really stupid unnecessary changes from the Tv app. I guess i will, eventually, have to use that clumsy and, for me, poorer app if I want to use Android but I will have to be dragged kicking and screaming to it. For now I will go back to the superior app and just use the force transcoding method when I run into the pausing issue. I REALLY hope Emby will rethink downgrading the user experience and simply fix the little problems in the TV app. There is nothing really wrong with it except the player and that seems like it should be an easy thing to add. I think the new app is a huge step backward for usability in Emby apps. Thank you for all your help

  26. Hello, Carlo. I'm a user from Taiwan. I would like to express my disagreement with the decision to treat zh (Chinese) as Simplified Chinese by default in Emby. According to international standards, such as W3C and Unicode CLDR, the tag zh refers to Chinese in a general sense. It must not be assumed to mean Simplified Chinese. Below is a screeshot taken on W3C(https://www.w3.org/International/questions/qa-choosing-language-tags) : Instead: zh-Hans is the correct tag for Simplified Chinese; zh-Hant is the correct tag for Traditional Chinese; And zh by itself is neutral — simply meaning "Chinese", without implying any particular script or regional form. To illustrate with a well-known example: The en tag refers to English in general. It does not automatically mean American English (en-US) or British English (en-GB). The distinction is made explicit by using en-US or en-GB when necessary. Treating zh as equivalent to zh-Hans is just as incorrect as assuming en always means en-US. Defaulting zh to Simplified Chinese disregards the large number of Traditional Chinese users from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and other regions. This choice is both technically inaccurate and culturally insensitive. So, "Chinese" is just fine for zh. Thank you for your attention to proper localization and internationalization support.

  31. I use now Emby on my Apple TV 4K last Gen and DV or HDR not work.Is this a bad joke? We have 2025 and Emby can not play this Videos. Plex can play, Infus can play but Emby not.

  32. I use Channels DVR and they don't have a big dev team, but they seemed to be able to get HDR working (along with Dolby Vision) without much hassle. Not sure what's so hard about it - maybe they just need to find better Apple devs? I mean with all the changes (for the worse) going on over with Plex, this would be a prime opportunity for Emby to gain some inroads there.

  34. Thank you to everyone who took the time to ask the Emby team questions across all of the different platforms including here on the forums. There were a lot of great questions that were thrown our way and we've been excited to get the answers out to you. While some of the questions we were not able to answer, we did our best to give you the most accurate and clear answers possible. Now without further ado, here is the first series of questions and answers for you to look over! Please keep in mind more questions and answers will be coming in additional blog posts in the coming days, so not all questions are being answered today. Who owns Emby? Emby LLC owns the Emby product and is a private entity. The owners are undisclosed but note that the development team has full control over the direction of the product. We are not beholden to or under the influence of any investor or investment group. What is the history of Emby? Emby grew out of an open source project called MediaBrowser. Emby's origin in concept came out of that project but there is actually none of that code base still within it. Emby ended up being completely built from the ground up to be a server-based ecosystem as opposed to just a single app as the old MediaBrowser was. Around 2011 what is now the core development team for Emby were contributors to MediaBrowser. We saw the opportunity to build something more flexible than the WMC environment would allow and embarked on creating what we then called MB 3. The core developers spent over a year furiously writing code before anything was released to the public. It was then probably another two years of dedicated development before anything was truly usable as a system. In 2015 it was decided that we had moved so far away from what MB originally was that we needed a new name. A few of the devs got together and came up with "Emby". There are a few reasons behind that name but one of the main ones was that you needed something that wasn't already trademarked and domained. Emby fit that bill and has the benefit of sounding like "MB" when you say it. With the new name, we needed a new logo and we actually held a contest in the forum taking contributions from users and that finally landed us on the logo you see now. Since 2015 we have expanded the team and worked diligently to try and continue to craft the best truly personal media server system we can. We still have a long way to go but have also come a long way to where we are. What are the most popular Emby clients? We do not have exact data on this, due to sideloading and the such, but through the app store platforms we can gain general ideas. Android is the most popular amongst our userbase (both mobile and TV) with iOS in second place as the most downloaded app. What Emby clients do the development team use most for personal use? Our development team uses a wide variety of apps just as our user base does. We have people on the team using Android on mobile and TV, iOS, Apple TV, Roku and Xbox as well. As you can see our dev team really is as diverse as our user base when it comes to how we use the server. These were just a few of the questions about Emby as a product and who we are. In the next blog post we will be covering a few different things such as some of the future goals of Emby as well as release schedules and more!

  38. I think it would be great to add your themes color in the seek bar or play bar, kinda like it is in the android tv app. It would add a bunch of contrast to all of the white layout.
