  1. So if I have this right, Emby's stance is that no one who installs their app should ever want their monitors to run at over 120hz, for games or any other reason, so they're automatically forcing all monitors down to 120hz every time anyone plays anything in the app, with no option to return to them to normal afterward? And this is intentional? I want to be clear that I'm not trying to be confrontational. I respect differing opinions. But I would strongly suggest you reconsider whatever train of thought led you to believe people would be okay with that. If you don't play games that's fine, if you don't see a difference in the way higher fps looks generally that's fine. But there's a whole world of things outside your (or any one) app, and doing something that affects the whole system in that way, with no alternative, is not ok. For me I noticed when some of my games became unplayably glitchy because of the framerate mismatch. And yes, I could change their internal target to 120 instead of 180, but VA panels (which are common) look significantly worse in their brightness, color, and motion when working below their maximum refresh rate. It's why I personally never use Freesync. You don't really need to parse any of that, but I assure you my usage is quite common. And no one should have to justify being allowed to use a high refresh rate monitor to its fullest. It's a neat solution you guys have come up with. It should absolutely not be a requirement for using Emby.

  2. Here you go, I was already doing something in Photoshop so I was able to do this for you. You can download those images and then upload them to your server as default images.

  5. It all depends on your client, NOT the server. If your client can direct play them, then there is no issue. The problem is too many people just expect it to "work" with potato hardware and they don't bother to do the due diligence of basic research to see what their hardware can playback.

  6. You have critic ratings and tomato meter, it would be be nice to see a Common Sense Media age rating. Or an option to turn it on or a plugin to enable it. Thanks!

  8. It's within tos6. I had to disable that option then clicked on Emby. It pulled up the Emby page instead of "404 not found". Then went back to tos6 settings and re-enable the option again.

  10. Since I also prefer to use Emby-Theater (everything is played directly and without transcoding), I'll hook myself up to it here. Thanks

  11. in my example (browsing recipes) "quick-view" would simply be a convenience to "glance" at a recipe while browsing through a lot of them, allowing the user to select the one(s) they WANT to download. I never intended to prevent downloading. Viewing without being allowed to download would be subject to potential "security breaches" as you described. The issue you raise regarding licensing is also applicable to other content presented in Emby. However, Emby is intended to be a private platform for sharing content you own with a select group of users, and should not be subject to licensing concerns. Presumably, the Administrator would select who has access to which library content, and should only be sharing content that can be shared with the users that are authorized. Determining authorizations for individual files for individual users seems to be a function that goes beyond the scope of what Emby is intended for, and would require an intensive amount of coding to achieve, If that were my intention, a different platform better suited to that functionality would be a better option, as suggested by @seanbufffor recipe management in general. I only wanted to use the user-friendly cross-platform Emby to easily share my recipe file with the family members I have as authorized users in my system. Everyone is allowed to download everything, so the security issues you raised are not applicable to what I was suggesting, and should be easily manageable using Emby features as is, with only small modifications to existing features for the sake of convenience. The comprehensive features (like recipe resizing & making grocery lists) go beyond what Emby should provide & were not what I was asking for in my original suggestion.

  13. My understanding: That's one approach, but didn't really want to allow remote connections for security reasons- that's why I'm connecting with VPN. I was able to get the remote VPN connection working after I included both VPN subnet and LAN subnet in the LAN networks section under networking. "Allow remote connections to this Emby Server" is disabled, but the VPN still works. Got it all resolved, thanks!

  14. Like try to catch it within a day or two so that the log file will still be there. Even better if you can get it to happen on demand.

  15. Okay, I resolved the initial problem by removing the subnet that I added to LocalNetworkSubnets in config/system.xml. I think where I went wrong was by not also adding the local network subnet as per: https://emby.media/support/articles/Connectivity.html "Ensure you also include the local network subnet that the server is connected to as well." I'm still working on getting access from VPN phone.

  16. Nevermind. You were right. I didn't realise you had merged the Emby For TV app into the main one. Installing that has done the trick.

  18. @pwhodges Thank You for this information: I was having problems because I had made iamvtstrong53 as a forum account - Then I could NOT easily change the password of this account, and I asked for this account to be DELETED, following the forum's guidelines. I made the bsbaker53 account, and set the email so that I can connect, Last night, I spoke with the individual that has the emby server: I asked him to check the username, as I had it work a couple times with the bsbaker53 login, even when it was the iamvtstrong53 login, and that was strange, as it had worked before on my imac, and I even went to firefox "passwords", and bsbaker53 was there, and so was the password I had set. So, I had a prior login, and looked at the account that his emby server was showing, had him change it to bsbaker53, and then set the password - It woks now - However, I was confused, and while I understand that there is a reason for the way it it set up, I found it hard to reset a password - I may do a small server on my network, BUT I want to make sure that I can login, and it was confusing because it asked for the email address a couple times, and a username a couple times. Quick question: If one is running an Imac M4, should I be downloading the emby server that rums on an M1, M2, or M3? Thanks for the help Brian

  21. That's an odd comment since no one is forcing you to use Emby for PVR or rent cable, you must have chosen to continue to use Emby for other reasons. It also remains to be seen when or if TVNext will be better or more reliable than current alternatives.

  25. It’s a fairly simple plugin. You just hook into the on playback start and keep a secondary table of occurrences shown. Now if there were hooks for on login then you could use that but on playback start is available and usually works for most. If on start and # occurrences < max amount send message, log occurrence to database.

  26. That is just one of the problems. I ran out of patience to list the problems years ago. Would love TVNext but by the time it drops I won't need it since I am about to bail on cable TV, just too expensive for nothing but garbage repeat content and emby doesn't work well enough for me to just dump my cable TV equipment and save a bunch of money a month. I bought emby Premiere 5 and a half years ago because I was told by people inside the emby team that TVNext was a few months out. I have wasted a ton of money continuing to rent cable TV equipment because emby Live TV just is not reliable enough for a whole house solution as is and the powers that be at emby don't seem to have a clue how to run a business.

  27. Since music is highly tag driven now, especially with musicbrainz tags, can we please fully use those tags to keep libraries better organized? Some artists credit themselves with multiple names over their career. for example, Fela Kuti: https://musicbrainz.org/artist/6514cffa-fbe0-4965-ad88-e998ead8a82a all the variations have the same mbz artist tag. So naturally, mbz lists them all together on the same artist page. But emby separates every spelling difference into its own unique artist page. matching mbz tags should pool together under one page, with the unique name changes listed underneath the albums.

  28. Correct. Profile 5 uses a proprietary color transfer method from Dolby. Somebody has reverse engineered it and that's why some open-source players can play it now (including Emby Windows app), but we haven't been able to bring that to work on Xbox yet.

  29. Hi, we've assigned it to our build and packaging developer to test 5.0 and get our packages up to speed with it. If you follow the release notes for the server beta that's the best way to know when there's an update for it. Thanks.

  30. We already do this for movies and series. Artists are a little tricky, because sometimes you can have the same artist named differently and this is intentional.

  31. What subtitle types are you referring to? Your image shows ASS. If it is the case that it is always ASS subtitles that take a while to start then that is due to the age of the TV. The ASS subtitle renderer is quite complex and can take up to a minute in some cases to load. Ensuring that the subtitle stream has the correct language included (ie: Language: English in your example) as this will ensure it only loads the minimally required fonts which can make it a bit quicker to start. If it is other subtitle types, not ASS then please provide some examples You would need to provide some specific examples, Please try and determine the playback type (DirectPlay, transcode, etc) from Stats for Nerds during playback or from the server so that we can narrow down the cause and note what the stream formats are. The file in your image should have no problem playing smoothly without stuttering. Is the server located on the same local lan as the TV or are you playing remotely? Stuttering/sync issues can be caused by network issues, server performance if transcoding or overloaded, very high bitrate files, incompatible formats or badly format video files. Make sure you are avoiding PGS subtitles as they will always cause transcoding which your server may not handle well.

  32. Sorry if this is not an option for you. You can get a program like Tdarr, Unmanic or Fileflows to automatic reencode to another format or add another audio track with a format your equipment is compatible with. I have Fileflows running and every time a video is added to the server Fileflows will add a EAC3 track (if there isn't one already) to the file for compatibility with most TVs. It also removes subtitles that might give problems. Easy and painless to setup and makes almost all TVs work with everything on my server.

  33. Hi Emby Team. Today books and comics are part of the same type of library. You can create 2 one for books and one for comics to separate them into different libraries, but this results that comics and books are considered books into collections: You will agree that a comic and a book are not the same thing, so has no sense to merge them into the same "books" line in Collections, specially if you have 100 books and 200 comics for a collection (See Star Wars books and comics ....) Can you please change this behaviour and create an specific line for "Comics" or at least to be an option (Separate Comics and Books in Collections (Y/N) ? Thanks

  34. Hello Luke and apologies for the delayed answer. Yes, since then everything works fine, via wifi. I don't understand why via LAN it doesn't work, perhaps there might be some security protocols via ethernet cable, idk, but i thank god that at least via wifi it works.

  38. could we get a thumbs down or a dislike button when listening to music. EX: if thumbs down, then dont add the song/artist to the playlists when shuffle etc. this should be possible without "tagging" individual items/songs as this would take centuries for people with large libraries. i think more of a pandora approach "thumbs down dont ever play for me again"

  39. I was just about to post a similar feature. I’d rather just have Emby as my all in one but I definitely a star or like system to auto create a liked playlist. I too have too many songs. Or make the favorites not hidden in the … options and visibly seen near the media controls

  45. Hi All, I have recently moved from Plex to Emby. The biggest think that Plex does that Emby does not is gapless audio play back of music. I listen to a lot of electronic music and they are usually continuous mixes broken in to tracks on a CD. Plex does handle gapless audio by pre-downloading the next track before the current track has finished. Emby does not have gapples play back on iOS or Android.going to be implemented in Emby? At this stage I will continue to use Plex for music. For my use case Emby is less than Ideal. I like almost everything else about Emby. Is gapless playback every going to happen in Emby apps?
