It'd be nice if there were a way to have a folder with trailers that weren't connected to a movie in your library. I have some trailers for movies that weren't produced, parody trailers, etc., and I'd like them to be shuffled along with the trailers included in folder directories.2 points

Hi there folks, I have been a part of this community for quite some time now, and I have always been impressed on how helpful everyone is. And I felt it may be a good idea to pay something forward after all these years. I recently reinstalled and changed how i run Emby, and took some notes along the way. And then it kind of it me, that it may be to some interest to some of you. However, there is quite a lot of work to write a guide, and to make it some level of coherent, so I wanted to check the waters on how interested anyone would even be on reading such a thing before I set off on the adventure on writing it. Some descriptions of the what and the why... Requirements I wanted to make sure that Emby was running as a service I wanted to utilize an old NVIDIA card that I had laying around for transcoding I wanted Emby to run containerized I wanted to run the container on a Windows Server I wanted to allow for local traffic to go over HTTP, and external traffic over HTTPS using a CA cert that should renew itself automatically I only wanted to open two ports in my firewall, the HTTPS port for Emby itself, and 80 for cert renewal I will mainly be running Emby on a dedicated server, so I pretty much allow it to roam free on the server The media files are stored on another server and served as SMB share Solution A server running Windows Server 2025 DC (if you will use Standard that will also work fine) A Ubuntu 24.04 distro running in WSL2 The Emby linux container hosted inside WSL2 Installed NVIDIA card with removed transcoding limit (it's a consumer version) The NVIDIA card made available to the the container running Emby Container and services auto updates, and auto restarts (no need for any type of session running) External port number will be set to non-standard port and then routed to the standard HTTPS port inside the server Automatic cert renewal using Let's Encrypt Automatic update of dynamic IP to Cloudflare to manage the DNS for the domain (I do not have a static external IP for the Emby server) If any or all of this is something that you would want to read or discuss more, comment or react to this post. Then I will know what to focus on, and if there is any point in writing such a thing in the first place. Have a nice day everyone of you!2 points

Hey Luke! thanks to this community I found another post with the answer I tweaked the URL i got and instead of the M3U file, it spit out the XML data for the guide. Super happy to have this working in Emby!2 points

I think it'd be nice if there was an option to bookmark parts of videos so I could quickly jump to my favourite parts.1 point

Attached is the latest 2 log files yo asked for. Just to clarify - although I have an LG TV, I am running the Emby app on the Amazon Firestick. The versions of software are: Emby server 4.8.10.0 on my desktop and 2.1.23a on my fire stick. When I run the videos through Emby on my desktop they run fine. When I run them through the Firestick on my TV all those shot in portrait (from theiphone) are rotated 90 degrees and stretched. Edited by @sa2000to remove logs which included security tokens & keys1 point

With Chrome you hit ctl-shift-c to bring up the console. The next time you get the spinning circle, do this and show us what is in the console logs.1 point

Hi. Open the browser console when that circle is spinning. Are there errors there?1 point

Sorry, I'm generally a noob with emby, I've used it off and on for the last couple of years, but just decided to make the complete switch from Plex, so forgive me if I'm using the wrong terminology. Just wondering if anyone is working on a project to get images from theposterdb. They have a lot of Collection artwork that can't be found anywhere else, and lots of themed artwork within those collections. Would be nice to have an agent that handles the downloading of those. For some reason, I don't seem to get all of the poster artwork from Emby that Plex seems to get, for instance, my Garden of Sinners posters all looked similar in Plex, but there's 2 of them that aren't getting the poster images that Plex seemed to be able to find. So having a single source repository for Poster art would be awesome. I am also having the same issue with my Hana to Hebi Live Action movies, both the ones from the late 70's and early 80's as well as the ones from the Early 2000's. The posters just aren't showing up despite them being matched appropriately.1 point

Hi, there's already an open request for this or something functionally equivalent. Please join in and contribute to the existing discussion at:1 point

If playback is using Direct Play and not transcoding then it is a different issue from the one I mentioned. You can establish from the Emby Web dashboard if the playback on the LG TV is Direct Playing or Transcoding. Can you check that you are on the latest version of the Emby LG app. According to this post, the latest version is: Emby Theatre for LG Smart TV Stable: 1.0.45 (2025/01/02) What LG TV Model ? I can check if we are transcoding or direct playing if you provide server logs and giving me the time of the test. See How to Report a Problem Look for embyserver log file and also ffmpeg log file1 point

Yes, that is the plan for it to be updated in the store soon.1 point

These options are separate for each device, so no, they are not part of the user settings on the server.1 point

I started having this problem with 2 of my users yesterday. Both have been using the server for years. based on this post I looked at the user config for each in my server and both had a space after the username. I deleted the space and saved. Both can now log in again. As I say, these have been working almost everyday for years. I have made no changes to the users in a very long time. I don't where the spaces could have come from. edit: I found 2 other users that had the same space after the name, but they have not been logged into for a long time. Sorry, I know this is a very old thread. Just putting it here in case someone else has the problem.1 point

okay so i'v made it with a tricky way (but it's working). Since i'm using cloudflare, i'v made two custom WAF rule For SSL : Url contain : Download?api_key= and SSL on Redirect to https://mywebsite.com/ For no SSL : Url contain : Download?api_key= and SSL off Redirect to http://mywebsite.com/ This way, we can block download that not use sync and that also prevent content stealing with 3rd party app. All other things from emby are fully working, only downloads are blocked, sync is fully working so if someone want to download it will need to use app. Also i'v saw that now the microsoft store app that was direct DL now use sync with WAF rules on. So now i can use api to add a download limit like i had planned to do1 point

Hi there +1 to a feature I would love to see Emby implement! I see a workaround with tagging but hopefully the core code change to Emby isn't too involved and it would be a cleaner experience!1 point

The iOS app works fine with reverse proxies for countless other people; there just has to be something about either your iOS settings or your reverse proxy that is slightly odd. At this stage I would suggest you look at the logs of your reverse proxy to see what is happening when the app tries to connect to your IP address. Paul1 point

Yep, somehow the DNS setting on the OMV host had been lost. What threw me was that the adguard server also hosted on there worked fine. Did an omv-firstaid and reconfigured the network and it's all good now.1 point

I am afraid with the filesystems having different syntax for file and folder paths, it is not going to be possible.1 point

I am deeply grateful for your assistance. The issue that had troubled me for two days has finally been resolved. It appears to have been caused by a browser update. I downloaded a portable version of Edge from the web and replaced all the Edge browser files on my computer. Then, I repaired the Edge browser from the application settings, and it worked. Prior to this, I had attempted to repair it from the application settings more than once, but none of those attempts solved the problem. It seems that the repair function in the application settings cannot perform a complete and thorough repair.1 point

Hi ,you might not feel that way once you discover how it actually works. They have a relay process that kicks in automatically when a direct connection from device to server isn't possible. This relay process routes all aspects of the connection through Plex's own servers. This is what allows it to seem like it's working without having to use any port forwarding. Personally, from a privacy standpoint, I would rather just not have it work at all then have the relay kick in.1 point

Hi, as this is an easy addition, we'll add an option into emby library setup for the next 4.9 beta build. Thanks.1 point
-
The present beta will end with 4.9 becoming stable. At that point switch to the stable release for updating, and make a separate install of the next beta which will be the one in which TVnext will be revealed. Paul1 point

Yup thanks, I didn't realise I needed to mark a solution. Done now, cheers.1 point

Wrong way round - Jellyfin is a fork of the last opensource version of Emby. Paul1 point

Yes, I did, but- and I should've tried this earlier- I got it working by disabling that access, restarting my server, and then re-authorizing it, and it worked. I should've tried that first. Thanks for your help!1 point

I think you could potentially pull this off using docker on both windows and linux. I'm not sure how well that would work in practice; but containerizing the emby server would let you mount the files identically on both OSs using bind mounts. Something you could experiment with.1 point

You could spin up Docker Desktop on Windows to use this notifier container. Works flawlessly for me since months now.1 point

Hello, it's possibl Hi @Lukethanks for answer. Meybe in the future there will be possible to make global template for every device?1 point

How's that? The App unlock feature while great in theory and spirit, could at times get convoluted & frustrating, often times having the end-user, his/her system admin, Emby support & billing staff, not to mention mods and power users all trying to help the end-user, only to find, after many back and forth messages, the store transaction was declined, never completed, was for a different app or purchased using a different account. To me it seems clear, Emby is providing a richer experience by having more client app choices available to use without needing a Premiere license. At the same time expanding the standard license count for Premiere devices from 25 to 30 or 20%. Twitch ??? Emby makes additional features available to non-Premiere systems as well as add additional value to the standard subscription by increasing the Emby Premiere active device license count by 20% for no additional cost. Why jump ship when nearly everyone is receiving additional benefits? What's not to like?1 point

Hi For the moment I want Emby to skip (exclude ?) composer/writer etc tags when scanning music tracks. Maybe something on the library settings screen. A checkbox Include Composers My objective is not to create any new composer credits. Why you may ask? Short answer is major negative impact of including (treating?) them the same as an Artist. Long answer will be in a seperate FR. Thanks, -vicpa1 point

+1 It would be a feature PLEX doesn't have.. Wouldn't that be enough motivation to implement it.1 point

It seems clear that Emby's terms of use may change for worse in the near future. Just in case, I will start planning the migration to Jellyfin. Thanks.0 points
