I would use 1 for transcoding. and use 2 in raid1 as metadata if that's important.2 points

I would like to have the option to display subtitles outside the "video frame" at the bottom of the screen, regardless of movie format. Currently Plex, Jellyfin and also KODI offer this possibility, with Emby being the only left out, and the only reason I am not using Emby as my primary media server. Kodi does have the best implementation options: The forum discussion for reference:1 point

+1 for transcoding temp path. If you watch live TV then the DVR playback/rewind buffer can have dedicated storage (transcoding temp) and not run the risk of filling the boot/root drive. If you do conversions you can have yet another separate dedicated path for that as well. Free SSDs for non-critical stuff you can toss when they die. Just keep them trimmed.1 point

Also keep in mind that our price hasn't changed since 2018 and, instead of raising the price on the vast majority of our users, we do use these to help with the fact that ALL our costs are significantly more than they were in 2018.1 point

Hi, this is normal. You knew this would happen, right? I think what he's asking you to try is adding the TV source directly to Emby without using Next PVR.1 point

Are there any plans or considerations for an Emby Theater unlock option that is tied to the user account and not the server? Not sure how it would work but i'd be willing to pay $20 to $30 one time to unlock that functionality in just the Windows desktop app. I want to be able to direct playback media from a server that is shared with me that doesn't have Premiere. This would let us support the project (emby) if we don't have our own hosted server. I have thought about buying Emby Premiere lifetime but it seems that wouldn't help since that isn't my server. I can use a web browser for playback but that transcodes a lot more.1 point

I'm sorry, but the MovieGroupSubdirEnabled option is for groups, there is no option to create a separate directory for each movie. I know this feature has been requested before, but I have not implemented it yet and I have no plans to work on this application at the moment. I still don't understand why on earth you would want to do this?1 point

Roku 4800X * HDHomeRun FLEX DUO HDFX-2US * Emby 4.8.10 on Linux Fedora 41 * VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation CoffeeLake-S GT2 [UHD Graphics 630] The Roku app for HDHomerun plays directly no problem The Roku Media Player streams TV no problem Obviously neither of those have a way of transcoding before the video stream gets to the Roku. When I play Live TV that's 1080i it transcodes it, when it shouldn't. If both the HDHomerun APP and the Roku Media App can stream directly from the HDHomerun without transcoding Emby should not need to either. embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-d68283c6-bcbc-4fd6-8f4b-b2097a055208_1.txt1 point

There once was the option for a one-time payment of $99usd to extent the number of devices from 25 to 45 devices but it was removed in April 2024 in favour of the monthly subscription of $11.99/month for 45 devices. While you could run a second instance of Emby with a second license on the same hardware, you will likely need a second gpu for HWA for things to play nice. Same goes for maintaining two separate databases. Not ideal but still better than paying a monthly subscription. I understand why Emby is trying to push people towards a continuous revenue stream over lump payments but to me the monthly payment model lends itself better to services rather then static software. I would rather pay a lump sum for each major version over a reoccurring monthly payment. If I stop making monthly payments the software loses functionality it once had, with a perpetual license you never lose what you had but may be locked out of new features/updates.1 point

Righto, I remembered I've got a NIC to USB device on another computer, so I stolz that and plugged it into the projector and presto we have wired lan, and yep the login then worked. So @ebr it looks like you were right, there's something fishy with my WIFI, or at the very least there is something about my wifi set up that this thing doesn't like, but what that could be I've got no idea as everything else is going strong. If I find out what that is, I'll post back and add to the knowledge base, but looks like Emby is in the clear with this one. Thanks for the efforts @rbjtech @ebr Chris1 point

The difference between running 24/7 and running as a WOL is very small. Also letting your drives spin down and restarting them also causes more wear on the drives than running 24/7. The savings on your electric bill is also tiny. I have a total of 15 external drives and I measured and it costs me about $10-15 a year more than it would if I ran no drives at all. That is less than $2.00 a month for all those drives. I run two computers with Emby running on both 24/7 and all those drives and my electric bill is close to my neighbor's and sometimes lower in the winter when the computers can help with heating. In simple terms: Servers should never sleep and their drives should never sleep either. While Emby has many built in features to allow for servers to be intermittently off line it is a very bad idea. Some people do run fancy power saving features with Emby i think most that do have many unpredictable problems. When I see people wanting allow their server(s) to sleep I think of the famous saying: "Penny wise pound foolish." My bottom line is do NOT allow your servers to sleep. I can pretty much guarantee that they will not get cranky from lack of sleep. And they will be happier in the long run. BTW: Servers generally should have no other tasks except those needed for the proper operation of the server.1 point

That is a nice way to do it! Plugin is going well! The basic functionality is done, but still too rough to start hosting it. Biggest chunk left is making the website presentable. Then I can take on some test users, hopefully not more than a couple of weeks. There will be some features missing to begin with but once it's running they will get added quickly.1 point

Version 11.6.0 Notes: Please do not forget to leave an up to date textual review on Play Store. Your feedback plays a crucial role in building the app’s ranking, ensuring a future for Symfonium. Added: Added support for new OpenSubsonic API key authentication. You can now reorder the about rows of album and artist detail pages. Added new option to allow waveform extraction on mobile connection. Added more granularity to song offline status smart filter. Fully rewrite the backup system to now allow backup and restoration of user data, custom images, file favorites, auto offline rules, tag cache. (The backup is in zip format with access to user data as json for usage in other tools) Added new Share file option to share local device files to other apps. (For external tag editors you may need to edit the local provider to remove then add again the source folders to get write permissions) Added sort by filename to song lists. Added a new option to display individual track thumbnails on the album page. Added support for OpenSubsonic explicitStatus. (No server support this yet and you can opt-out from the provider settings) You can now change albums and artists user ratings from Symfonium. Added Korean translation (Thanks Yurical) Added new option to show smart filter as filter chips in media list for faster filtering. (On by default) Added date added to artists smart filters. (Note: Not all providers support that field) Changed: Remove the export user data function. The backups can now include those json files with more data and for more things. The providers wifi only option is now better enforced and sync will be cancelled faster if you loose Wifi connection. Allow more songs to be pre-cached on Wifi, and added a big warning about the fact that misusing the feature will make the playback cache not working as expected. Also support ALBUM_TAGS for albums tags (Current tag is TAGS). Fixed: Fix navigating to composers only from song action bottom sheet. Fix Android Auto not displaying some album images when not embedded in the tags. Fix sometimes not detecting that SMB server enforces encryption. https://support.symfonium.app/t/version-11-6-0-released/64201 point

Actually nvm I think it's working now. I had forgot to set it back to "Log in as this user". Although previously it would work a few times before asking me to login again so time will tell, but for now seems to be working. I set the app to "Show login screen", logged in, used it, then set it back to "Log in as this user". Thank you!1 point

I am experiencing this too. I was was getting really frustrated with my Roku TV and not being able to effectively skip ahead in a live broadcast that was being recorded that was in progress and I realized that it was the transcoding overhead that was making a big time skip perform terribly. It also makes it take a lot longer to change channels, etc. I am hosting on Windows, however. W10/i5 6400/HD Homerun Flex 4k1 point

For what it’s worth. It’s happening mostly with Roku clients on my side. I need to restart the server every couple of days to clear those stuck sessions1 point

Hi, emby is in the first place aiming for movies and TV-series to collect and manage - I know. But you have also music and audiobook-media, and have the aspiration to become a server for all kind of media, so I dare to state my request. And this concerns the artists of music-albums and audiobooks. The data there is not fitting, because most of the artists are persons, so they need to have a "Name" not a "Title", and a "Birthdate" not a "date of publication". A deathdate is missing completly. In case of groups/bands there should be the possibilty to add members (persons again), and a founding-date/date of seperation of the band as well. I think this should be re-worked, as emby should not only be a place for storing and streaming media, but also for looking up the essential informations. I have not yet checked how it works with e-books and comics, as I'm not sure how this is compatible with calibre, where I administrate my reading-stuff currently. Thanks for considering.1 point

I spent a couple days fiddling with AI image generators to come up with genre icons that were somewhat matching. Being AI generated, the words were consistently weird. Not just misspelled, but creepy misshapen. These are the ones that were the best of what I was able to come up with. There are 1024x1024 and 960x600 versions. The good thing about AI generation is that if there are any missing, you can just go back to the generator and ask for more. genre_posters.zip1 point

If that is the case, then there is no reason to have individual descriptions or covers for each and every chapter/track; nor the ability to reorder tracks. Also, separating tracks and embedded chapters in the UI is confusing and unintuitive. So, either way it's done wrong. Either you're assuming audiobooks function the same as podcasts and so the reasoning why UI elements remain is because of a flawed concept; or you don't associate the two, and then the explanation just comes down to that it's unfinished. Don't get me wrong. I like Emby, and I use it regularly for video. And I will be happy to provide specific feedback, in a constructive manner, as to why it's not an optimal experience for audiobooks. But I need you to have an understanding, beyond the surface level of what I'm saying, of why I'm saying it. I need you to actually use it for audiobooks so you can understand why it needs improvement, beyond just the bare minimum of basic functionality. Then we won't have to have a back-and-forth as to why Author corresponds to the Artist tag, and Narrator corresponds to the Composer tag; or why Audnexus is a better source for metadata than Musicbrainz; or that audiobook collections should not pull metadata/covers from themoviedb; among other things. The current implementation for audiobooks still leaves much to be desired, and it would benefit the process if the people working on it experienced first-hand why that is.1 point
