  1. The Emby team hopes you and yours are enjoying a Happy Holiday Season. We would like to announce a couple of changes that will hopefully increase the value of Emby in all of your households. First, to aid in the transition from our old TV-only Android TV app to the new Standard Android app on that platform, we will be eliminating the need for the app unlock by allowing free playback for up to five TV devices per Emby Server. Devices beyond that limit will require Emby Premiere. Previously purchased unlocks will still be honored. This should allow most households to move to the new app more easily. Second, recognizing that today's households have more and more devices, we are increasing our standard Emby Premiere License device limit from 25 to 30. We will then also increase the extended premiere plans from 45 to 50 and 75 to 80. Existing extended subscriptions will remain the same but new ones will be at these new levels. All standard licenses will be automatically updated to the new 30 device limit immediately. You should see all of these changes rolling out over the next week or so. Happy Holidays from the Emby Team! View the full article

  4. ChapterAPI did - but it didn't get any traction. It didn't save the intro marker timings - but it stored the 'fingerprint' of the intro (a tiny binary fingerprint file) - and emby just had to find it on 'your' version of the file. Storing the actual timings (based off ALL the 'versions' of that file that are available) is one option - but the ChapterAPI method works for ANY file and generates it's own timings. The 'key' is the fingerprint - as that should be the same across any version. It worked perfectly and could also be used for 'recaps', 'credit/outro's' etc - as you simply applied the same concept across the file for the different marker types. A huge missed opportunity imo.

  5. Be able to create playlist based on a certain criteria, like genre and or year, in order to create a dynamic playlist that it refreshes automatically when new content is added. This way you can for example, create a tv comedy playlist from the 90's, or a new sci-fi Movies playlist. Some other criteria for rules could be the rating, watched/unwantched, score, tags, language, audio codec, etc The possibilities could be endless

  6. CURRENT STATUS: SSO: Not yet planned LDAP: Development COMPLETED - BETA AVAILABLE >180 direct endorsements >30 MONTHS (>2.5 years) >12,000 views PLEASE BUMP - - - - - PLEASE LIKE - - - - - PLEASE BUMP - - - - - PLEASE LIKE - - - - - PLEASE BUMP This would greatly expand Emby's usage, and possibly more enterprise level adoption, user templating, user groups, SSO, etc. There are also users who have completely abandoned Emby and ended subscriptions due to the lack of this necessary basic functionality. Note: SAML2 is also part of this request. (header auth is also acceptable, at a minimum.) Context: I am trying to use something like openfire as a Instant Messaging solution which already supports LDAP and SAML2. So this would allow the current user of emby to seamlessly use web-based instant messenger with the same username and password as Emby without the need to enter them into a form. This would also allow universal login to be shared with my home PC's, Spiceworks, Ombii, Organizr, etc. The multitude of possible flexible functionality this could add is truly incredible. THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE, myself and others cannot manage a userbase with proprietary passwords for a single service (with no self-service password reset/recovery), when things that have only months of development implement it within days, easily. Status: LDAP - Development Completed - BETA AVAILABLE! Common LDAP solutions to test against:Open LDAP (Open Source) [use this] ApacheDS OpenDJ 389 Directory Server Microsoft Active Directory SSL is NOT actually needed, but Emby team insisted on it anyways: Simply offering a toggle option for auth to send plaintext or encrypted passwords would work just fine. It is ironic to claim the need to be overly security conscious of user passwords, while lagging behind on basic SSL. If SAML is implemented, a SAML request/response can just be signed by an x509 and it is just as secure as TLS using SSL. SSL does not need to be natively supported, as it is perfectly possible to run it through an SSL reverse proxy tunnel and have the same effect. SSL Feature Request: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/33983-ssl-integrationsupport/&do=findComment&comment=322526As of now username and password is encrypted client-side as security as SSL is not natively implemented. Emby team has said this impedes the adoption of both SSO and LDAP. Please see our SSL request topic; like, comment, and endorse it to show how many people would enjoy/gain from this basic security. Ways to satisfy this FR: Direct LDAP connector SAML2 connector General SSO functionality (SSO Header, etc) Allowing user header auth NGINX auth support RADIUS Authentication Other features that are inherently possible if this is implemented: Self service passwords Ability for users to invite users/guests Expiring Accounts (after duration/trigger) Unified credentials for many services Corporate level authentication security User groups Mass User management Update 1: I encourage others to work on this but I am currently seeing what I can do to develop a solution to this myself. If you have experience in this LDAP/SSO/SAML2/SSL/.NET contact myself, @@Luke, @@ebr or the Emby team to let them know, any help is greatly appreciated! By everyone! Update 2: I know there is always the question of "well how many users actually want/will use this", so I compiled a list of some of the other threads/sites where people request this (to apparently no effectiveness in motivating the team). Update 3 (18 MONTH UPDATE): This request has now hit 18 months in age, NO progress made thus far whatsoever. ( ) Update 4: This FR is now the 4th most liked post ON THE ENTIRE FORUM and the 3rd most liked FR ON THE ENTIRE FORUM (ever), the 1st most liked active FR ON THE ENTIRE FORUM and over 4000 views. Counting endorsements besides those on this thread show over 115 direct requests/endorsements for this basic functionality. Lets get this moving guys, this is getting to be a bit much. Almost 2 years waiting on this now. Source Update 5 (9/20/2017): This feature request is now the MOST DESIRED REQUEST EVER MADE TO EMBY, sadly, that has not merited any progress at all. The staff has been working on things they believe Emby users want or may want, but it is clear what people want. We can only hope now our wishes are respected instead of being told what we want and having our requests dismissed. Source Update 6 [2 year update] (10/17/2017): Two years and not a single bit of progress has been made. TWO YEARS!!! To say this is disappointing is an understatement. The entire reason I went from Plex to Emby was because of local user management. THIS IS THE ONLY REASON, so naturally I wanted to have complete control over my users, but after TWO YEARS, still nothing. Update 7 (3/6/2018): DEVELOPMENT HAS STARTED!!! Check Luke's recent comments, if you want to test it out, download the latest beta and install/configure the LDAP plugin to test and give feedback!!! Update 8 (4/6/2018): Development on the LDAP connector has completed from what I gather, not sure if this is only a beta or a primary release; SSO is still a plan for the future but has not been touched. Progress made by other users (looks to be nearly, if not fully complete): https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/pull/1885 https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/pull/2139 Exploits shown by other users against Emby (emphasizing the need for a centralized authentication solution): https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/12335-unauthenticated-access-over-the-internet-to-logs-folder/ https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/20376-all-folders-visible-to-all-users-after-upgrade/ Related FR that could be helpful: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/46635-support-for-logging-users-in-though-url-scheme/?hl=user Any of these could be interesting to have compatibility with: http://lemonldap-ng.org/welcome/ https://github.com/Jasig/cas http://passportjs.org/ https://www.nginx.com/resources/admin-guide/restricting-access-auth-request/ LDAP/SSO/SAML Requests (~180 endorsements) [>12,000 views] > 95 endorsements on this post ~ 30 endorsementshttps://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/1146 > 35 endorsementshttps://www.bountysource.com/issues/24943821-authenticate-users-using-ldap > 14 endorsementshttps://feathub.com/tidusjar/Ombi/+122 > 4 endorsementshttps://www.reddit.com/r/emby/comments/5o44wd/creating_deleting_updating_users_with_the_api/ Interview, in article comments user said lack of LDAP STOPPED him from using Emby (Emby is actually losing customers due to the lack of this NECESSARY basic functionality):https://www.linux.com/news/software/multimedia/856128-exclusive-interview-emby-founder-luke-pulverenti Duplicate, user had no progress on first 2 posts (no one from Emby actually tracked this or even replied to him):http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/861-mb3-and-active-directory/ http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/867-mb3-and-active-directory/ Auth announcement, user 'Drashna' in comments requested LDAP/ADhttp://emby.media/community/index.php?/blog/1/entry-177-manage-your-home-with-emby-users/ Various similar requestshttps://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/2494 https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/2493 https://forum.yunohost.org/t/integration-emby/912 http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/13081-active-directory-integration/ http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/11200-media-browser-3-server-ldap-active-directory/ External SQL auth request:http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/27986-emby-and-shared-mysql-database/ http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/23509-authenticate-users-via-external-mysql-database/ http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/12001-external-login-to-mysql/ #ADFS #SSO #LDAP #ActiveDirectory #MSAD #SAML #SAML2.0 #SAML1.1 #PingFederate #OKTA #LemonLDAP #JASIG #authentication #auth #TLS #SSL #Usergroup #usertemplate #header #authheader #headerauth #security #hardening #authhardening #authenticationheader #externalauth #centralauth #centralizedauth #centralizeddb #exploit #authexploit #security #loginhardening #authenticationhardening #accesscontrol #.NET #SelfService #RADIUS

  8. Hi guys, just wanted to check and see if there has been any traction on this? This has also been going on for me for months now. I've noticed it from several different devices and I've attached a stuck stream from the Samsung TV app.

  9. Has there every been any plans for an Emby OS? Something similar to Kodibuntu or OpenElec. I think a lot of people would switch over from XBMC to Emby client if there was just an image you could install on your computer without having to worry about building the underlying OS first. And I would much rather run Emby as a stand alone OS rather than on top of XBMC, on top of linux. I think it would be great to plan a lightweight super efficient linux-emby build. Something that would boot directly into emby, and rely on emby server. Thoughts?

  10. I was chasing a memory leak on Kodi for almost 3 days and wanna share my results: As I started Kodi tests with my Raspberry Pi 5 (8GB) ram I was wondering why this device uses all the memory. I tracked it down to skin/widget refreshes means, by trigger a library update. More and more ram was consumed and never released. Also each playback start/stop triggers a skin refresh and memory usage was increasing even more till a point Kodi crashed. First thought was a bug in Kodi/images, so I tried libreelec and Xbian which are the only available images for RPI 5, but no difference. I uninstalled every plugin, every dependency, even build in addons and stripped down Kodi to bare minimum, still no difference. As I never experienced this issue on my other boxes (vero 5 and osmc), I started thinking what could be the difference. First clue was, osmc is an 32bit OS, so I tired libreelec in 32bit, but turns out this 32bit images still seems to uses the 64 bit kernel, but 32bit Kodi application. Digging deeper and deeper, I started reviewing the glibc parameters. Turns out, the MALLOC_ARENA_MAX seems the key to success (at least for now). https://www.gnu.org/software/libc/manual/html_node/Memory-Allocation-Tunables.html On 32bit OS the MALLOC_ARENA_MAX is by default 2 times the cores = 8 on a 4 core system. On 64bit OS it's 8 times cores = 32 As I started lower MALLOC_ARENA_MAX=1 via env parameters (as a test) I immediately realized the difference. Ram usage was down to a bare minimum and never grows again. However, MALLOC_ARENA_MAX=1 is not optimal for performance, currently I'm testing MALLOC_ARENA_MAX=16 on my RPI 5 with libreelec and seems to work quite good. Highest mem usage is currently 4.7GB. Anyway, if you experience same memory leaks, give it a try: In libreelec you can adjust the parameter here: /storage/.config/kodi.conf and add this line MALLOC_ARENA_MAX=16 also crashed MALLOC_ARENA_MAX=8 same as on 32bit os seems to work

  11. Hello, sorry now i get the solution by myself. After i have remove all the libraries and connected the libraries once again i can use emby normal as before. After thinking about the last days i know the solution. I have changed the Password of the user which is using emby. Thanks for your great support ;-) Now you can close this topic

  15. There is one more thing about the Samsung app that I don't think was mentioned. It will only update in the store for 5 years and at that point Samsung will no longer accept inputs. So, you may not need to load the test version from usb now, but in 5 years all updates will need to come from usb. Otherwise, you stick with the last store version. That may be what you saw.

  22. Not sure why I hadn't thought of that. I guess, the black in the video matched so cleanly with the black letterboxing from Emby it didn't occur to me. That's a little frustrating, but at least I have an explanation now. thanks.

  23. Luke, thanks for solving this. I cleared everything (browsing history, download history, cookies, and the cache) in Edge. I then closed Edge and opened it back up. Users option in Emby now opens. Appreciate the help!

  24. Hey, thanks for your help. In the meanwhile it works fine. I think it was some problems with the webbrowser. I tried another one and it worked. Some hours later it worked with my standard browser (firefox) as well - strange enough. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that emby often enregistrates a new device when logging in with a web browser. But just to let you know - the key and the registration was allright and now it works fine. Thanks for your efforts :)

  25. For a more extreme case, consider that some recent anime goes straight in to the first episode, and has the OP (for subsequent episodes) used as the ED for the first episode! Paul

  26. You can multiselect the contents (using shift-click to include the whole range) and then "Mark Read" is one of the options. Note that recently someone reported that trying to select over (as I recall) 500 items selected less than expected, so if you have large libraries you may need to do them in sections. Paul

  27. Thanks Luke. I did come across that after posting this inquiry and made a lot of headway, but you'll now find I have posted in that thread as I have some permission questions as I can manually scan but can't get Emby to automatically scan after a recording is done.

  29. I posted in the wrong section I think (General/Windows) about this exact same problem I'm having. I'm going to be watching some TV tonight on my Windows PC via the browser on Emby so I'll take note if it happens on a non-Roku platform.

  30. So not sure if I mentioned this but for me it happens with playback on the Emby for Roku app. I found another thread on the Roku section here: I've also noticed that on some older videos, like AVI files, the video will pause and only the audio skips back, then when the audio gets to where the video is paused then the video resumes. I'm going to be watching some TV tonight on my Windows PC via the browser on Emby so I'll take note if it happens on a non-Roku platform.

  31. I used a NAS for this, when I used windows and drivepool. Had the same issue as you. And set the NAS to sleep / Hibernate when idle. It did take sometime to wake it, but it worked fine for those media files, that we never or rarely used. I'm now on unRaid where my individual disk sleep after 30 min of no activity. So retired my NAS.

  34. I have used this in the past. https://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/linkshellextension.html Stop Emby Server, copy the folders from your current directory and put them were you want, delete the emby folder. Now go to were you put the folder, right click and pick link source, then go back to the original location where it WAS installed and right click and select drop as symbolic link. Everything will just work normally and nothing to rescan, or anything else specific to do. This way your install can be on a centralized nas storage location, but to your server it appears as a local install. PS Double check my instructions, as I haven't had to do this in years, but I still have the context menu installed on my server. PS PS, I would use some test folders, to make sure it does exactly what needs to be done before deleting any data. Like I said, it's been years for me.

  35. I found a serious bug in how the search works right now for People content. The problem is that People are not linked to any particular Library meaning even the accounts that have like G or PG parental control rating can search people from the entire library. For example, in my library I have TV Show Samurai Jack and by whatever reason this is the picture of one of the actors that gave voice to one of the characters. This is even more concerning with Adult Movies in the library, anyone can check if the library has adult movies by searching for popular adult movie stars. This should be fixed. Possible solutions: Automatically tag persons with the library they are used in and filter by the tag Allow to disable People Search all together for server or specific accounts (like parental control accounts) Allow to disable Search for specific accounts (like parental control accounts)

  36. App versions for both models should be available in the store and get updated several times a year. There is no real difference in the app features as they are based on the same code base. The app is fairly stable, hence the update frequency. For Samsung, there is a monthly Beta version that can be installed via USB and it needs to be updated manually every month, but as the app is now quite stable on both platforms there is little need for it. From a playback perspective, LG supports DolbyVision, but Samsung does not. The Samsung app uses the Samsung Native Player which tends to have better support for DirectPlay. It will depend somewhat on your server performance and how well it will cope with any transcoding requirements. You should choose the TV with the best required picture quality, with the technology that suits your viewing area (dim or bright light) and the OS that you find most appealing, then if you need better playback support, most people would suggest buying an Nvidia Shield Pro which supports nearly every format. I would start with the native app and use that as a fallback.

  38. I recommend using Various Artists in the Album Artist field (for a soundtrack album or "jukebox" compilation) unless the same artist did all of the songs. On the individual songs, use a semi-colon to separate artist names. John Travolta; Olivia Newton-John Snoop Dogg; Dr. Dre; Eminem; 50 Cent This will allow Emby (and lots of other music players) to recognize that there are several individual artists who contributed to that track, and that track will show up under each of their names, because each name will be treated separately. Whereas "John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John" will be treated as a single artist, and the track won't appear under either person's individual profiles. I even do this for "featured artists" - their names get moved to the Artist field and separated with a semi-colon. If you put in songwriter tags, again, use semi-colons to separate the names, and they'll be treated as individual artists and will sort themselves properly. You may want to standardize on one name for an artist, so that they sort properly. For example: Snoop Doggy Dogg Snoop Dogg Snoop Lion Calvin Broadus Calvin Broadus Jr. Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. Calvin "Snoop Dogg" Broadus all refer to the same person. If you pick one variation and use it consistently across all tags when they appear, you'll get much better database results. Emby, as a rule, pulls its metadata from your ID3 tags when the songs are first imported, and making changes afterwards can be a bit of a hassle, so the better your tags are before you move the songs into Emby, the better your results will be. I'm a mobile DJ, so music management is a big deal to me, and I can probably answer any question you're likely to have.

  40. Hi @Lukenot for now I'm still looking around for someone with similar issue but basically what I need is a complete guide that describes "how to". I tried with another hardware (sinology Nas) and basically was automatically configured, I know that it's completely different, but seems that via Proxmox + LXC it's really hard
    1 point
  41. It's not worth it imo. Your hardware is capable enough but until we get h265 transcoding we have to rely on tone mapping instead of passing through the HDR metadata untouched but a lower bitrate. In my experience transcoded 4K HDR looks worse than transcoded or direct play 1080p SDR. The only benefit is having to maintain a single 4K version over multiple versions.

  43. Greetings @ebr, I do not wish to share media directly. What I am looking for is what @harrvsuggests: being able to share a link with some users that takes them to the desired movie on Emby. For example, sending the link of a movie that is on my Emby server to one of my users, so that when they open the link, the movie opens in their Emby application, whether on Android or Windows. Of course, this person must be logged into my Emby server beforehand.

  49. There is some progress being made on this - the use of existing 'banners' produces reasonable results - with a 'spotlight' of 2 or 3 titles. There are multiple threads on this for 'Recommendations / Spotlight / Watchlist' etc - they are effectively all the same thing - a row of items pulled from the main collection to 'bring to the top' of the pile. I have no ETA's - but this is being looked at but it's not top of the priority list - in summary, there is no easy way to get placement of the image above 'My media' nor is there any easy way to get a single full width banner using existing metadata.

  50. Are these birds stealing food? Does your security system automatically contact police about theft when these guys trigger your security system? Any particular worst offender? Blue jays, cardinals, black birds, pigeons? Sorry couldn't resist. I too have a couple of "weird" cams setup that have nothing to do with security in Emby via the IPTV plugin which makes it easy for family members to see "live actions" going on.
