  1. Yes Emby Premiere worked out a deal with OpenSubtitles but there is still a daily limit. So there are like 3 tiers. No Premiere-No VIP is limited to like 10 a day Emby Premiere-No VIP is limited to like 100 a day And not positive on OS VIP but believe it override No Premiere/Premiere with the 1000 a day. But looks like we may need clarification from @Lukeas KB states a 200 limit on, I will assume Premiere. Open Subtitles | Emby Documentation As for other options others may have to chime in but you have options Emby including: Addic7ed, NapiSub, OpenSubtitles, Podnapisi & SubDb.

  2. The Emby team hopes you and yours are enjoying a Happy Holiday Season. We would like to announce a couple of changes that will hopefully increase the value of Emby in all of your households. First, to aid in the transition from our old TV-only Android TV app to the new Standard Android app on that platform, we will be eliminating the need for the app unlock by allowing free playback for up to five TV devices per Emby Server. Devices beyond that limit will require Emby Premiere. Previously purchased unlocks will still be honored. This should allow most households to move to the new app more easily. Second, recognizing that today's households have more and more devices, we are increasing our standard Emby Premiere License device limit from 25 to 30. We will then also increase the extended premiere plans from 45 to 50 and 75 to 80. Existing extended subscriptions will remain the same but new ones will be at these new levels. All standard licenses will be automatically updated to the new 30 device limit immediately. You should see all of these changes rolling out over the next week or so. Happy Holidays from the Emby Team! View the full article

  3. My previous post from August listed several solutions costing from $20,000 to $60,000 annually. One person responded to say that it "shouldn't be that much". My posts are rather techincal, so maybe no one really read it. Quality trailers were available up to a few years ago, until Youtube turned the HD embedded option off. Fixing this, is estimated to cost, every year, about the average annual income for a US employee and probably more. I've done these type of project break-down estimates for large Internet networks and private businesses. Anyone is free to come up with a cheaper alternative. Just posting that it has to get fixed and shouldn't cost much, hardly helps to find a solution.

  4. for such reason - just use container, where mount path would keep the paths consistent.....

  5. SamES is asking you if you can remux the file as he suspects the header information of the container in your original file may be corrupt. Remuxing just takes the original content video, audio, etc tracks and puts them into a new mkv container without changing the original contents inside the container. Drag-n-drop tour original file into the Source files box Click the Start multiplexing button Should run fairly quick. Then retest using the new destination file.

  7. If you need more, you can always get VIP at OpenSubtitles and then you can download much more than 100 (no unlimited though - afaik). Besides, 100/day is already a lot imho.

  8. You might want to check into the history of Emby. From its inception, its purpose has been to organize and play/view a variety of multimedia files, including photos, so it is purpose-built. There is no truth to the idea that it was ever "primarily" meant to play videos. I, for one, appreciate having a unified app for my photos, music, videos, and audiobooks. For those who are looking for an app exclusively for videos, perhaps it is they who should look for a "purpose-built" app.

  9. Thank you, Emby is so feature packed I absolutely missed the tv mode portion as being a feature of premiere. I should have looked closer, appreciate the quick response. I wish I could unlock this client side without premiere however I know that isn’t an option at this point in time. thanks again for the quick response.

  10. Users who pay for a premium subscription or a lifetime license should have access to detailed information about the slots they occupy and the ones they have available. Additionally, they should be able to check the dates when those slots were occupied and when they expire. As paying users of a service, it's essential that they can see and manage this data.

  12. Selling a service that you don't have the ability or system to provide is dishonest, wouldn't you agree?

  13. Understood and you may be correct and have more info than I do but when frustrated with Emby trailer issue a few months ago I moved over to Jellyfin and trailers worked, it just take more time to get it working. My po8nt is, I was able to get trailers working in Jellyfin without a fee, paying a few for a Premier service and a major part isn't working without much feedback is very frustrating. Based on only receiving feedback when we bring the issue up every few months tells me it's not being worked on. If the service is more expensive, that's what Emby should share and see who's in for a price increase to get it working. This is supposed to be more of a community but with the way Emby has handled it it seems a lot more like a service provide vs customer and customers aren't happy when a paid service isn't working. I'm not interested in paying for a work amount that I have to do and I'm sure most aren't, we're paying for this and we're not getting part of the service. Emby should just be honest and stop ignoring the issue,,,

  14. Allemeins, Even with 2000 trailers, you need a server running. The cost estimate is still valid for a lower number of trailers, even without Akamai. Perhaps you jumped to the conclusion that lower number of trailers was going to be cheaper, sort of like if you only drive on Sundays, is the car less expensive? It isn't.

  15. Hoop, I think your info may be out of date. Jellyfin forum post had trailer issues and the post was locked as done in 2023 https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin/issues/2963 There are some mentions of people who made scripts to download from Themoviedb, that requires an API key that can only legally be issued to someone who uses it for personal, non-profit use. Themoviedb appears to use Youtube trailers which locks out 720P from downloading. Perhaps some HD trailers are still stored at themoviedb server and with their API key may be available. Such an API key for businesse at this server requires a commercial agreement. I looked at the code of these scripts. It looks like the download would be mostly 480P from Youtube. Perhaps someone demoing this may have already collected many HD trailers from years ago. In any case, using this at all is not allowed for businesses without a commercial agreement and payment.

  16. Maybe you didn't really read my response back than. I didn't just reply that it "shouldn't cost that much" but rather pointed out several figured where I think you seriously overestimated. To do a quick recap: - You calculated with the need to add 20.000 different trailers to the database every year. I'd argue that you only would need a fraction of that. - You calculated with the need for a serious Akamai hosting and load balancing package for several thousand dollars a month. I'd argue that this is way too much for a service with a very limited number of requests (only paying emby customers would have access and most of them wouldn't stream trailers 24/7 but maybe a handfull a few times a week when they are having a movie night). So in my opinion throwing those high numbers around isn't really helpful.

  17. I understand where you're coming from but when you have paying customers and the constant response (which only happens after month when We decide to bring it up) is "we're working on it" doesn't carry much weight because at this point I just feel they're BS'ing because they've decided to ignore the issue instead of being direct or keeping us in the loop without the group have to bring it up every few months. A simple status update would have satisfied most of us. When you're paying a service that only works partially and the group, company or person you're paying if ires the issue, most people paying for a service will be frustrated. I personally haven't witness any issues resolved or request address or provider feedback. I'm only speaking of the trailer issue and another request I made that was said will be added, this was a request over a year old. Nothing! By the way Jellyfin has 720p quality trailers. They charge nothing so I'm curious, what do you think they're paying for trailers?

  18. I did a search for missing metadata and it fixed it. Guess I was surprised as that wasn't a problem when I pointed to a different tv show folder last week. Only difference was that was scanned from the start and this was a folder that was originally empty, but I dragged her shows into it.

  19. @Luke It's a combination of factors, including the .NET runtime, the operating system's network stack, and DNS configuration. Dual-stack sockets The .NET runtime generally uses dual-stack sockets, meaning the socket can handle both IPv4 and IPv6 connections. This allows the OS to choose the most appropriate address. Typically it looks something like this: When the .NET application makes a DNS request, the request is passed to the underlying operating system's network stack which handles the request. If only one type of record is returned (either A for IP4 or AAAA for IP6), the OS uses that address type. If both A and AAAA records are returned, the OS uses an address selection algorithm to choose the best IP address. This algorithm typically follows RFC 3484 and RFC 6724, which typically prioritize IPv6 addresses in most cases. Operating System: The OS network stack might have its own preferences or configurations that influence address selection (i.e. gai.conf on Linux). Network Connectivity: Network conditions may play a part. If IPv6 connectivity is poor or unavailable, the OS may favor IPv4 addresses. This is normally across the board use of IP4 over IP6 when the OS finds IP6 isn't working. The most robust way I've found to communicate back to servers/dns under your control, from apps running on many different OSes, is to setup the typical dns host record, then two specific protocol records. For example, you could have catalog.domain.com that has both A & AAAA records. You can then setup catalog4.domain.com with only A records and catalog6.domain.com with only AAAA records. With this DNS setup, if the device/PC is dual-stacked and an error occurs trying to access catalog.domain.com you can "manually" force an IP4 connection using catalog4.domain.com which only has an IP4 record. If that fails, you can try catalog6.domain.com which only has an IP6 address to use. This way you don't have to know if the OS has a mechanism to favor one address space over the other or know how it determines which to use. The 4 or 6 in the host subdomain's name makes it easy to remove the OS/platform uncertainty. It's only useful for things under your control, nut can help with licensing or Premiere validation, notifications, server updates, catalog plugins, EPG, etc To me the biggest benefit would be update notifications and Premiere validation. I'd hate to miss PVR recordings because my Premiere license couldn't be validated due to some ongoing IP6 issue between my server and the Emby backend license servers.

  23. The problem still persists that its is extremely difficult to correct an error because you still cannot add provider ids manually when editing a movie or tv show cast, so you cannot easily split/fix an errornous entry. The External ids still needs tagging on to the back of the editor so they can be added maually when there is a problem. So it has this when editing or adding from the movie or tvshow level Over the years I have explained this so many times and its been ignored, now its becoming more and more of an issue (as predicted) and its still getting fobbed off as a metadata providers issue. Thats just lame in my opinion.. Thats only partly the case emby is not allowing it to be easily corrected either, so although its continually rebuffed its also an emby issue! I am conculding either its too hard to fix or you just are not interested in doing it, but either way we are not getting a good explaination and are basically and politely being told to go away ....

  24. Only issue I’m seeing with handbrake is the file size is coming out smaller but I’m not losing quality. I’m still getting an h264 mkv output. Only change I’m making for myself is personally idc about losing the english audio. I always watch anime in japanese with subs. So I’m removing the english and then hardcoding the subs. It’s working now on emby so I’m fine if it is in fact reencoding as it doesn’t seem to be having any real negative impact.

  25. The result of the update: + Play album (more than 2 songs) including all controls back and forth from emby working very well + I'm no longer seeing other user's devices in the dlna list which is fantastic - Heos app still can't go back and forth in the album, but for me, if at least the emby works, i'm happy. Ps: maybe small ux improvement for the dnla plugin update, perhaps more clearly show in the my plugins screen/tab (which is default anyway) that there are updates. Would have never known if you didn't write it here. Also been looking everywhere for the version details/fixes but seems hard to find. Either way, big thanks.

  28. All of my media is on the same server as Emby is running, but is accessed through UNC paths. But on my desktop, it's Mapped drive U:\ The Original path is where iTunes sees the music. I'm running iTunes on a desktop with a mapped network drive, u:\. If i export a playlist from iTunes, i see this: But, if i look at the playlist that's exported from the script, I see this: From the point of view of Emby, which sees the playlists in a folder, called Playlists, all of the music is located in folders within the parent directory, "..\". if there was additional navigation to get from playlists to your music library, that's what would go here. But to keep the scanning pathing simple and have playlists contained in the music library, i chose a subfolder of my music directory. The output is the location of the playlists, from where the script is being called. Basically the script is a bloated way of exporting the selected playlist within iTunes, that changes the pathing on the export and saves the file in the desired location with feedback to the user. But, this won't run on a mac, unless you're running a VM. If set up similarly, you could just export the playlist manually, and replace the U:\ with a ..\ and save it in your music directory in a folder called playlists. I'm a software engineer that hasn't used a mac in 24 years of development; all .net, c++, python or scripting.

  29. By some judicious use of packet capture to inspect traffic between Emby and my browser I was able to figure this out. There are multiple problems: 1. The Emby API documentation does not detail exactly how the username and password should be provided in the POST request. I had assumed they should be in JSOn format but in fact they should be encoded as: Username=theusername&Pw=thepassword Not very intuitive (to me at least). 2. This page (https://dev.emby.media/doc/restapi/User-Authentication.html) of the Emby API documentation starts by saying 'Add the following request header on every request' and gives the example: Authorization=Emby UserId="e8837bc1-ad67-520e-8cd2-f629e3155721", Client="Android", Device="Samsung Galaxy SIII", DeviceId="xxx", Version="1.0.0.0" To me this suggests this should be provided as an actual request header, but in fact it must be appended to the end of the URL in the normal way for input parameters as follows: <apiurl>/Users/AuthenticateByName?X-Emby-Client=other&X-Emby-Device-Name=EmbyScript&X-Emby-Device-Id=embyscript&X-Emby-Client-Version=1 That is kind of misleading (also it is called X-Emby-Client not Authorisation). 3. Later on the same page it says 'The return result object will have an AccessToken property. This should be included in all subsequent Http requests using the header X-Emby-Token.' But again this is NOT a header but rather an input parameter: <apiurl>/Users/<userguid>/PlayedItems/<itemid>?X-Emby-Token=<AuthToken> @softworkz It would be good if the documentation could be updated/clarified; it wasted quite a bit of my time figuring this out

  35. Thanks for your reply Luke. Do you mean that the relative paths are already "tweakable" ? If I try to use a relative path (e.g. Test placed in the same path where programdata is) the server accepts it but the full path is stored. If I change then the path where Emby server is placed the Test path is not following the server's path change. It seems that relative paths option is not yet implemented as far that I can see... Cheers and happy new year to all of you ! Virginio

  37. Interesting you’re automatically assuming pirating and downloading... probably because that’s your kind of game. Sorry!! Nothing like that here. I rip my own BRs for the convenience of watching in every room of the house and backing up the delicate physical media. To my humble opinion, regardless of employee number, Emby needs to fix this to keep up with the competition. I prefer Emby over Plex but will keep using Plex until this is fixed by either Amazon or Emby… and it doesn’t look like Amazon cares much.

  38. This is being tested with one of the other major media servers (not jelly) and its pretty sick. They are doing 10 bit h.265 so it retains HDR. I really hope this gets added to emby at some point. I have transcoded full bit rate UHD files down to 8 mbits (on the fly) and it looks pretty darn good. I guess it depends on what your server has for hardware.... I have family with rural internet so anything along these lines is helpful. AV1 would be even better.

  42. Agreed - another area where Emby have lost focus and are now way behind the competition - it doesn't even have the ability to edit the Intro's without the support of a 3rd party plugin... Emby (with the 3rd party Plugin) used to lead in this area as it had both Intro and Outro detection and all the support tools (editing, stats etc). Now even JF has long passed them and have recently introduced the architecture called 'media segments' which is tagging for for Commercial, Preview, Recap, Outro and Intro. Their clients need to catch up, but the concept is solid. A shame, as the same concept of 'MarkerTypes' is actually in Emby (and was discussed with them), but beyond Intro's, it has have never been developed further ...

  44. A driver update for your GPU should fix it as the problem is part of a bad update Intel put in one of their drivers a while ago. If updating the driver don't work then downgrading it should. Some quick googling and the last known driver to work should be version 5122. @Happy2PlayI can't find any info on this but do you know if this is fixed in any newer Linux kernels?

  46. Honestly, emby should take this off the marketing site. It shouldn’t be advertised in the current state. I also purchased a premier license and this was a motivating factor, but these trailers are not watchable. If there is no solution, it shouldn’t be a feature. If manual trailer videos is the only solution, it should be clearly stated in the marketing info about the feature. I.e. “Trailers like the movies! (Downloading trailer content required)” Great server streaming platform with a ton of great features, this is a small blemish, but one all the same.

  47. Hi, I'm trying to help my friend set up his Sony Android TV to connect to my Emby server remotely. My Emby server is at "https://emby.mydomain.net". This URL is behind HTTP basic auth. I've also created a user:password for my friend to log into Emby itself. So that's two layers of auth. A browser on the laptop connects to https://emby.mydomain.net and streams fine. The port forward and reverse proxy works fine—I have other dockers running and accessible. Eg. I can use "user:password@sab.mydomain.net" in my mobile app to connect to a docker on my server. On the Sony Android TV, I've installed the latest Kodi from Play Store, and installed EmbyCon add-on. Does EmbyCon accept "user:password@emby.mydomain.net" for the host path? It didn't work when I tried it, but I received some kinda SSL error, the error code is "_ssl.c:99" if I'm not wrong. I can provide more details (like get the logs) when I return to my friend's place for further troubleshooting—I'm trying to figure out if the host path format is even acceptable and to learn how else to troubleshoot when I'm there.

  48. no worries dude. the community is part of what makes emby great. so you can see the issue pretty clearly here. your permissions are completely jammed up. you can also see the output of the ps command that emby is running as emby. you can confirm the emby user exists by typing emby id on the command line. so, you have a permission problem. one of the issues with playing with external drives via the GUI is that it mounts everything in gui land, and gui land doesn't play very nicely with command line land. so, if you want to do this the correct way we need to unmount it in the gui and mount it via the command line. if thats the approach you want to take, there are a few more steps involved. however, if you just want to test out permissions (which can be reverted), cd to the bj folder and run the command chgrp -R emby. this will give emby read permission to everything on the drive while maintaining your user r/w permission. this is a hack because ultimately you want to create a real group and add all the users to that group that should have read or read/write permission (saves a lot of manual modding down the road). give that a try and it should work for you. once confirmed, we can work through how to set this mess up the correct way.
