  2. I don't want to promise a "silver bullet" but so much of all of this should be addressed by Smart Playlists - or, actually, what should be Smart Views. I'm sure it will take multiple iterations and it won't all be there at first but let's see how this shakes out once we get that feature started. Thanks.

  3. Yeah the 4790 is almost e-waste at this point. If you're stuck at the $75-$100 price range you probably just missed the best opportunity to buy on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. But let's see what I can find on eBay. As you live in Ontario I am not going to presume you have close access to the border like myself. It's not going to be easy as shipping to Canada is dumb expensive. Dell Micro i3-8100T for $125 CDN before taxes. If you have access to the US border things would be far easier as you can get an 8th gen micro system for under $100 CDN no problem, it's the absurd price of shipping up to Canuckistan that makes it not worth your time and money. If you let me know if you have access to the border I can check to see what I can find that is more powerful and in your price range. If you could get up to $200 you can actually get an incredibly powerful laptop for cheap and use that as your Emby server. I personally use an i5-1235u with a smashed screen as my server. For example here is an i3-1215u laptop for $130 USD, and all it needs is usb NIC which can be bought for $20. Passmark score comparison of a 4790 4 cores 8 threads vs i3-1215u with 2 cores, 8 threads.

  4. @242Movies@rbjtechI'm working on a plugin. My aim is to make it extremely user friendly. Flow goes something like this: You install the plugin and grab your secret key from the plugin. Hop on a website, log in and add your secret key. On the website you browse lists and define your collections. The plugin connects to my API periodically and syncs your collections to your Emby client. If it goes well I want to add bunch of other features.

  8. Dear fellow Developers, the PluginUI Demo Example in the Emby SDK is demonstrating the wide range of featuires from the Emby PluginUI, but a number of essential things were missing, like how to use buttons and perform actions on button click events, as well as how to create and use dialogs and wizard UI. I'm glad to tell that these gaps have been filled. The demo plugin content is split into two tabbed views with two menu items in the navigation bar, and two new tab pages have been added for buttons, links, progress and status indication, updating the UI view from the server side and the other page is demonstrating multiple kinds of dialogs and a three-page wizard. Here's a short video (no audio): 20241204-1209-59.8630269.mp4 The sample plugin code will be included in the next beta SDK, which means everything after 4.9.0.32.

  10. Then definitely => Or if you still have the download on disk from the previous driver, then I would try to install that one instead.
    1 point
  11. Wow, thanks for all that info, and yes I am shocked as the only thing I did was update the driver between those two attempts but I guess that is what did it. Don't get me wrong, your knowledge vastly outdoes mine as I barely have an understand of how codecs even work. As a matter of fact I would be shocked again if my brain did not purposefully forget as much about codecs as it could after the many, many times I ended up in "Codec Hell" back in the early aughts Also, as I mentioned I am a pretty big moron so I get shocked a lot lol That being said I really dont mind you pointing out the issue lies elsewhere and support would be better achieved thru them. After all the effort and good info you have provided you are clearly not "passing the buck", so to speak. All good. As to the info provided, I will try that out and definitely let you know the results.

  12. Let me add the following: While I don't feel well about sending people elsewhere, I hope you understand that this is out of scope for Emby Support and we cannot guide you through further diagnosing, especially since it may get lengthy and unpleasant. But here's what I would do: Next step would be to determine whether it's a software or hardware issue to do this, I would install a fresh copy of Windows on a secondary partition or HD. Maybe try Win 11 since your Win 10 22H2 is at the lowest end and will soon fall out of support If Win 11 works, you may try a fresh installation of Win 10 22H2 If it works there, then something is messed up with your OS If it doesn't work there (but on Win11), then it's an Intel driver problem If it doesn't work on Win 11, then it's a hardware problem You can try to reset BIOS settings and load defaults You can try to put the ARC into a different PCI slot You can try to put the ARC into a different PC If it shows the same issues there, then the ARC is broken if it's working there, then your mainbord might be defective or there's some incompatibility between your mainboard and the ARC For testing "works, works not", the first criteria is the doubling of the GPU, when you see this, then there's no point in even trying Emby.
    1 point
  13. Even though we haven't got it working, we have burnt this down to a solid and clear problem: The GPU is detected and shown twice by the OS. If you want to take another chance, you may try to install an OLDER driver version, like this one from May 2024: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/785597/823163/intel-arc-iris-xe-graphics-windows.html If that doesn't solve it, or you are tired of making more attempts, your way to go is this: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/contact-us.html#support-intel-products_80939:227960 On this page, navigate like shown in this screenshot: Then, try "Live Chat" or "Online Service Request". VERY IMPORTANT Do not start telling stories about HW acceleration, ffmpeg, Handbrake or Emby. They cannot deal with that - obviously. You may mention it as a side note like saying that certain GPU features are not working properly, but your main story must be that the GPU is doubled. That should be something they can work on. Thanks and good luck! PS: We'd be glad to know about the outcome, so please let us know.

Why does your system think it has TWO A380 GPUS? please execute these three commands and show the output: wmic path win32_VideoController get Name, DriverVersion, AdapterRAM, VideoProcessor, AdapterCompatibility wmic computersystem get model, manufacturer, HypervisorPresent, SystemType query session

  17. There's nothing to disagree because your logs tell it very clearly. For example: ffmpeg-transcode-e000b31b-4ffd-46cb-9854-08050dae8b6a_1.txt It shows the weird duplication of devices: And it shows that qsv is usxed It also shows successful progress: And the filtergraph also confirms that it was done in hardware (entirely): That's because you had set HW Acceleration to "Yes" (= Automatic), which I can also see from the log: Be shocked!

  18. I have encountered an issue where the android app was not using the correct public port. Possibly using an old port rather than current. Do you have one android device that is having the problem that you could try after deleting the app cache and data and starting afresh for the Emby for Android app? To see if this resolves the issue (Through Android Settingd / Apps / Emby / Storage)

  19. @rbjtechInteresting that you can link back to the list, I had no idea. I'm not really up to the login part, but I'm 90% sure I will use Emby Connect with Javascript (so nothing is sent to my server). That way there is probably no need for any secret key in the plugin either. An alternative login has to be available for those that don't want to use Connect. I am working on it full time and will monetize this in some way similar to how MDBlist does it so it won't be to everyone's liking. Probably no ones liking actually .

  27. Agreed. I've seen the MDB code - it's just an API request for the list - nothing is ever posted back (ie no individual item tracking etc). MDB are likely keeping a track of the API account that made the request - but that's fair enough to help them build a 'what's popular' list of lists ..

  28. As long as it’s one-way communication with MDB, Trakt or whomever, this would be great!

  29. Still does on the AndroidTV/FireTV clients - it appeared for Halloween a few weeks ago - and as you say, dynamically added a row of all the Halloween related moves that I have. (as well as changing the colours and having a wolf howl whenever you opened the home screen .. ) So we know it CAN be done - but why it's hidden from general use is frankly a bit of a mystery ... I think it will transform the way my family will use emby - for the better.

  30. This is not an Emby issue. Truenas scale users should talk to whomever bundles Emby for that platform and ask them to include the runtime groups needed for access to the graphics devices out of the box. I don't think the Emby team is involved in the TrueNAS app catalog maintenance. It sounds to me like the person handling JF for TrueNAS did the same for their app.

  32. To me Plex should never be installed on a Smart TV or anywhere else for that matter. Plex is not, for me, a choice if I want to watch or listen to media. Emby is much better. Having said that my belief is that smart TVs are not truly "smart" and a second rate choice for any TV watching. But I do own a smart TV which I bought because it was a LOT cheaper for the features I wanted. I tried, briefly, to use the TV's operating system and its so called smarts but I quickly abandoned that for the better option of stand alone boxes simply connected by an HDMI cable. With virtually all "smart" TVs you do not have to use the "smarts" as those are quite often inferior to other options and so called "smart" TVs almost always have HDMI inputs that work well for external inputs and you can then avoid using the "stupid" TVs actual operating system. The main reason, for me, to buy a "smart" TV was because of its other features but, again for me, a smart TV's "smarts" is quite dumb. BTW: I would never use Plex as it is a system designed to throw media at users for profit rather than Emby which makes it easy to keep your media at the forefront and generally avoids most advertisements. (except those that appear on broadcast TV) Plex is a platform for exposing users to intrusions and Emby is a system for accessing your own media. BTW 2: Try going to the Plex forums and making a post that mentions Emby as much as Plex has been mentioned here. It will get you banned quite quickly. Plex is very anal and paranoid and closed to the idea that some people might just not prefer them.

  35. This is a basic mock up of how I see this working. First is the addition of a Playlist Manager, a location where users can create and edit playlists using basic rules. Examples such as: The Plugin Manager would be unique to each user and be enabled/disable by the admin in the user access screen. Shared playlist between users are something to consider but that brings its own set of challenges. I think per user is much easier to accomplish without having to worry about privacy and all. One thing in the screenshots above that not shown is how the results are displayed i.e limit to number of results, sort order, randomized, etc. Once a playlist is saved it would be available as a selection in the home screen selection menu. Ideally this would be expanded beyond the current 7 spots. This would abide to the current limits of continue watching/latest media (16 items?). This means that some playlist with more than 16 items would need to refresh/reorder/randomize over time or when the app opens.

  36. The answer to the original question is one of simple design for purpose. We designed Emby to be your personal media server and the other things you are comparing it to are designed to influence your behavior and sell you content. We purposely didn't take this route from the beginning. However, some happy medium is probably the right answer and the smart playlists will be the first step. This will allow each server admin to "sell" to their own users in some fashion.

  37. 4.9 apparently being the Smartlists edition of which we've seen precisely nothing how many months after the last stable release ?
    1 point
  38. Oh right, I see it. It wasn't always like that, will look into it. Probably it comes from a general UI change. But that's one of the advantages of the PluginUI: If things like this happen, it's on us to fix it, no longer will all plugin developers have to fix it in their plugin javascript files. Over time, so many plugin UI pages have become broken by things like that (or very often just visual glitches), that we wanted to provide a stable way for creating UI that will last without change. Yea, also because it drastically reduces the effort to provide configuration UI. With the legacy method, you had to perform so many steps for adding just a single option value: Add the value as property to your options class Create HTML markup for adding an appropriate html element and add it to your html template Add javascript code to the js file for setting the html element value on load Add javascript code to the js file for retrieving the html element value and including it in the data on save Write javascript code for conditional hiding and saving depending on other html element values (if needed) For dropdowns with dynamic options: Implement an API service Implement an API endpoint to provide those option values Write javascript code to invoke this API on load Parse the result and populate the dropdown options of the select element With PluginUI, it's just this: Add the value as property to your options class For conditional display/enablement: Add an attribute to the property For dynamic dropdown values: Add a second property with the values and an antribute to the property pointing at them (grey means optional)

  39. WELCOME TO THE HISTORY OF EMBY! A lot of our users are new to Emby and we thought it would be a good idea to share some of the backstory of how Emby came to be, where we started and where we are headed. We have grown significantly since our inception. Once a humble open-source project, Emby has evolved into a sophisticated platform that allows users to organize, stream, and enjoy their media libraries with ease. In this post, we'll take a look back at the history of Emby, explore its development journey, and highlight the key milestones that have made it what it is today. The Early Days: An Open-Source Beginning Emby started its life as Media Browser, an open-source project focused on creating a simple, user-friendly interface for accessing digital media collections. Originally, Media Browser was a plugin for Windows Media Center, and its primary goal was to offer users a better way to manage and play their media files. Back then, it was a community-driven project, with developers and enthusiasts contributing code, features, and plugins to expand its capabilities. Media Browser gained a loyal following among tech-savvy users who appreciated its customizable nature and flexibility. The Shift to Emby and the Rise of the Media Server In 2014, Media Browser underwent a major rebranding and evolved into what we now know as Emby. This change wasn’t just about a new name—it marked a shift in focus from a media center add-on to a full-fledged media server solution. Emby’s developers wanted to create a standalone server capable of managing large media libraries, transcoding content, and streaming to multiple devices. The introduction of the Emby Server brought a range of new features: Library Management: Users could organize and manage their media files with a sleek web interface. Metadata Scraping: Automatic fetching of metadata like cover art, descriptions, and ratings. Transcoding: On-the-fly transcoding for seamless streaming to any device, regardless of format. Multi-Device Support: Streaming became possible on a variety of devices, including smartphones, smart TVs, web browsers, and gaming consoles. This new direction attracted more users who were looking for a flexible media server that could handle diverse formats and provide a unified experience across different platforms. Open Source to Closed Source: In 2018, Emby made a significant decision: it moved from being an open-source project to a proprietary, closed-source model. The change allowed the development team to maintain greater control over the codebase, improve security, and introduce features more rapidly. Key Milestones in Emby’s Development As Emby transitioned to a proprietary model, the development team pushed forward with a series of updates and improvements: Emby Premier: The introduction of a paid subscription model called Emby Premier brought exclusive features like DVR support, cloud sync, offline media, and hardware-accelerated transcoding. Emby Premier gave the development team a sustainable revenue stream to fund further development. Improved Mobile and TV Apps: Over time, Emby released a series of polished apps for mobile platforms (Android, iOS) and TV devices (Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire). These apps received regular updates to improve stability, user experience, and customization options. Live TV and DVR Integration: Emby expanded its offerings to include Live TV and DVR functionality, allowing users to integrate live broadcast channels, schedule recordings, and manage live content alongside their media libraries. Enhanced Transcoding and Streaming: Emby has continuously improved its transcoding capabilities to support modern formats like 4K, HDR, and Dolby Atmos. These improvements allow for a high-quality viewing experience regardless of the device being used. Security and User Management: Emby introduced advanced user management features, including user profiles, parental controls, and access restrictions. This makes it easier for families to share media without compromising on privacy or security. Emby Today: A Comprehensive Media Experience Today, Emby is a mature and feature-rich media server solution that caters to a wide range of users—from casual media consumers to serious home theater enthusiasts. It supports a broad spectrum of devices, offers robust customization options, and remains focused on providing a powerful yet easy-to-use interface. Some of Emby’s standout features today include: Unified User Interface: A sleek, modern interface that makes browsing and streaming media a joy. Customizable Libraries: Tailor your media collections with custom artwork, genres, and metadata. Cross-Platform Syncing: Keep your media in sync across multiple devices and platforms. Comprehensive Live TV Support: Access live TV, manage recordings, and watch DVR content effortlessly. Community Engagement: Emby continues to value its user base, with an active community forum, feature requests, and beta testing for new updates. The Impact of the Community and the Road Ahead Despite its shift to a closed-source model, the Emby community remains strong. Many long-time users contribute by creating plugins, themes, and offering technical support. The Emby team regularly interacts with the community, implementing feedback and adjusting features based on user needs. Looking forward, Emby is set to continue expanding its feature set while focusing on performance enhancements and cross-platform support. Emby’s development is driven by innovation and user feedback, ensuring that it remains a competitive choice in the world of media servers. Conclusion Emby’s journey from a simple open-source plugin to a leading media server solution is a testament to its adaptability and the passion of its developers. While the shift from open-source to closed-source was a turning point, Emby has continued to evolve, delivering a reliable and customizable media experience for millions of users worldwide. The history of Emby is one of growth, change, and a dedication to providing users with a comprehensive and enjoyable way to manage their digital media. View the full article

  40. It's needs a bit of setting up (just like Kometa does..) but the same basic collection creation from mdblists and Kometa artwork is now possible in Emby ... Yes it's a long way off Kometa - and it would be great if Kometa simply supported Emby, but some GREAT progress in this thread : https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/125215-python-script-emby-mdblist-collection-creator/#comments

Currently I've just cloned the repo and thus have all the images local that I reference. (1000's of them !) btw - for Windows users in the config file it's :- poster = D:\Kometa\seasonal\christmas.jpg Note - no quotes, so no spaces will likely be allowed in the file path, nor file name unless python is space friendly.. ?

  44. Yes. Run it as a scheduled task on my Windows machine once a day. Used to have 2 or 3 trakt lists that aren't available at mdblist but that doesn't bother me since mdblist has a bazillion other nice lists. Currently the list section looks like this: [- IMDB: Top 250 Movies -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/darksidelsd/imdb-top-250 Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- IMDB: Top 250 TV Shows -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/swordfishtrumpet/imdb-top-250-tv-shows Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Rotten Tomatoes: Fresh TV Shows -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/mgauci1000/metacritic-2022 Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Rotten Tomatoes: Fresh Movies -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/wierdaaron/rotten-tomatoes-fresh Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Academy Awards: Best Picture -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/telecino/academy-awards-best-picture-winners Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Academy Awards: Best Actress -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/qjao/academy-award-for-best-actress Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Academy Awards: Best Actor -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/qjao/academy-award-for-best-actor Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Academy Awards: Best Music -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/qjao/academy-award-for-best-sound Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Rotten Tomatoes: Best Movies 2024 -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/siskourso/rotten-tomatoes-best-of-2024-ed84tni24k Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Rotten Tomatoes: Best TV Shows 2024 -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/bustert/rotten-tomato-and-tmdb-best-tv-shows Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Metacritic: 90plus -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/robflate/metacritic-all-time-90 Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Golden Globe: Best Drama -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/qjao/golden-globe-award-best-motion-picture-drama Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Golden Globe: Best Musical or Comedy -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/qjao/golden-globe-award-best-motion-picture-musical-or-comedy Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Golden Globe: Best Music -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/qjao/golden-globe-award-best-original-score-in-a-motion-picture Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Golden Globe: Best Actor Musical or Comedy -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/qjao/golden-globe-award-best-actor-in-a-motion-picture-musical-or-comedy Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Golden Globe: Best Actress Musical or Comedy -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/qjao/golden-globe-award-best-actress-in-a-motion-picture-musical-or-comedy Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Golden Globe: Best Actor Drama -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/qjao/golden-globe-award-best-actor-in-a-motion-picture-drama Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Golden Globe: Best Actress Drama -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/qjao/golden-globe-award-best-actress-in-a-motion-picture-drama Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Goldene Palme: Best Movie -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/qjao/cannes-film-festival-palme-dor Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False [- Critics Choice Award: Best Picture -] Source = https://mdblist.com/lists/k0meta/critics-choice Frequency = 100 update_items_sort_names = False

  45. Request: Please add a default aspect ratio option in settings for the Emby Android App. Reasoning: I have a Pixel 4 XL, the curvature of the screen in the corners causes the "Auto" aspect ratio to shrink the video down considerably, example: Using the aspect ratio "Cover" allows me to take advantage of the full size of my screen with minimal pixel loss in the corners, example: It would be awesome to be able to set a default aspect ratio within the Android app for that one device, instead of having to re-select Cover for every video. P.S. Thank you for the Lifetime Premiere black Friday sale. I'm happy to be a Premiere member now
