Hacks on top of a hack is never a good idea - Emby need to fix the root cause of why it transcodes in the first place imo. ie add proper functionality, a vpn exclude section or ensure Auto actual does what it says on the tin, allow client side bandwidth settings overwrite on the server, allow actual device configuration control etc...3 points

Good day, We update the forum today, big thanks to our admin team and to our server admin bigjohn, well done guys. Please report anything not working as it should be, thanks all. My best3 points

3 Windows 11 Pro machines updated this AM. 1 server (Version 4.8.10.0) / 2 clients (potential backup server hosts) all have both Public & Private access enabled (default?) in firewall(s). No connection issues detected. EDIT: All Emby internet traffic directed thru PIA split tunnel. No change after disabling VPN.2 points

Agreed - editing intro chapters is a little tedious - especially vs the original Introskip plugin where you could just overwrite the value. You could also clear a seasons or an entire shows intros on the click of a button (and of course you could do the same with credits as it detected those too) .. After years of the original Introskip core feature 'replacing' the plugin, these simple but time saving features have never been implemented - a real shame imo. btw - without the Chapter API from a 3rd party - you would not be able to edit the Intro's at all !2 points

OK! I downloaded the 64 bit version from your website & successfully downloaded it to my laptop, then manually installed it to the NAS. It went smoothly, though I had to agree to assume responsibility for any consequences, since it is not in the Synology "approved" software list. Once installed, it opened & it appears that all my edited metadata and images are intact (whew!). I didn't check everything, but I looked at an appropriately representative sample. I seem to be back in business. If I have any other issues I will come back to the forum. Thanks again!2 points

Be able to create playlist based on a certain criteria, like genre and or year, in order to create a dynamic playlist that it refreshes automatically when new content is added. This way you can for example, create a tv comedy playlist from the 90's, or a new sci-fi Movies playlist. Some other criteria for rules could be the rating, watched/unwantched, score, tags, language, audio codec, etc The possibilities could be endless1 point

I think this would be a nice feature to have. Maybe something similar to how windows media player handles this and the admin user can edit just by clicking on stars next to song. This would be easier and faster than having to go into metadata and change for every song you want to rate. This can be useful for smart playlists. If ten stars is too much then use five and have half a star counts as 1.1 point

Would like to see the following changes for handling of tv show extras: 1.) For episode-specific extras (deleted scenes, commentaries). When you name the file Seinfeld 1x1-Pilot-Audio Commentary-Featurette, I wish it would do the following: Only list the words "Audio Commentary" instead of the whole file name "Seinfeld......" Plex handles it like that and it looks more cleaner. 2.) For season-specific extras that are housed in an "extras" folder under the season, the extras appear at the end of the season's episodes. My wish is for the following: have an "extras" button that you can click to show these titles. This is how Jellyfin handles them and Plex puts them on the Roku under "season extras." I am not a fan of how Emby does it currently and counts them as extra episodes.1 point

I swear! Nothing. Only the 3 patches mention in my first post. Btw, I forgot: Win11/23H2 Emby V: 4.8.10.0 (since 10/01/24) No 3rd party FW, updates or anything. I got it it relatively quick. 1. Ping and every other connection to the machine worked flawlessly and fast. 2. Problem existed in whole network 192.x.x.x/24 3. Deactivating firewall worked 4. Checking network and firewall settings and setting firewall TCP and UDP for emby to public worked, regardless of network type "private". But there were already enough others complaining here, if it was a general problem...quite sure, I'm an outlier.1 point

Thanks for all the great work and videos @VicMoore! I have been traveling for work the past week and have not had a chance to test the new features. I will give it a go this weekend.1 point

Guess that Emby will get a lot more support tickets about this issue, if a windows update / patch is causing it. To be clear ? Same Emby server version as before ? Only os update ? Any update to VPN software / Network drivers / Security software ... etc Old sayng "Everything does not come, out of nothing"1 point

100%. I even checked the registry keys for category and with powershell. Everything correct, no unidentified networks, every adapter "private". Seems, I'm the only one. Weird. I will check, reset and analyze the next days.. Thanks very much. Maybe, if it's not too much to ask, if somebody please can take a look in his firewall setting to confirm embyserver is running with only "private" checked, I'd appreciate it very much. Because there's 2 possibilities: Patchday changed something OS/firewall related or I had the "public" setting for emby before and something on this patchday changed it to private only. (Pictures in my post above). After all it's not really a big problem, I have no open or forwarded ports in my router, but maybe it helps somebody with the same problem later... Thanks and bye!1 point

That can already be achieved with either folder-based or tag-based access control.1 point

Am I overlooking something or is there no way to actually edit chapters (for example the intro times) and the only option is to create new chapters and delete the old ones which sounds super tedious if having to be done for many episodes. For example the core intro detection basically detected all the intros of the second season of the office wrong. Third season seems to work again but it would be nice to at least edit the times it created1 point

This can be investigated, but would need to have details of the LiveTV setup. Is it xmltv, is it standard guide for country and zip code. In either case would need the actual xmltv file or country / zip code and lineup name that is used. If episodes are named differently and identified as different episodes then we should not be missing the recording. Would also need to know if it relates to a specific series or general / several and details of what series and season/episode. Would need log file of it going wrong. log file showing it is scheduled to record as a series and then covering the time of the airing and to show if recording starts but not saved or does not start Would also need to know exact file names and folder names of the library they are going into and if that is where you are doing the deletions If it still does not record after manually deleting the media files, please make sure you do complate a library media scan after the deletion - just in case the issue because emby server thinks the episode is still there. If this was not the reason for the missing recording after deletion, then please ensure the logs you provide with the information requested above also covers the time of deletion and scan of the library With regards to the other issue of not being able to delete shows through the emby client interface, we have confirmed an issue to do with smb paths and this is being investigated.1 point

Thanks for that. I had tried that, and to reaffirm tried it again now, unfortunately it does not work. Yet, setting PC to sleep normally via intervals, Emby keeps PC awake whilst streaming.1 point

@LukeI have emby running behind a reverse proxy. I use the Channels app and have TV tuners connected to it. I added the streams and guide info from channels to emby and TV works in emby. My neighbor uses live tv all the time and uses the emby app on her android tv. Everytime she is streaming, I notice a similar message to what was shown in this thread on the iOS app in the past as shown below. Note that it works fine. She watches TV all the time but it sounds like the android tv app in the google play store must have a similar issue. Converting to compatible container Recovering from playback error1 point

My installation plays ".m4b" files as well as those listed back in 2023 by Luke. Unfortunately it doesn't really pull the book data from anywhere or author information, I have to embed the info myself. I think its just easier to run audiobookshelf for the audio books instead of loading them into Emby. Sorry about the HDR brightness on the first pic, not sure why my system always does that.1 point

@Luke @ebr I just wanted to let you know that everything is working. BUT I DO HAVE ONE WISH: PLEASE ADD AN OPTION THAT YOU CAN EDIT THE COVERS YOURSELF LIKE WITH THE CUSTOM OVERLAYS: This must be possible, I would like to design the colors but also the text at the top myself. If that would be possible, I would be very happy.1 point

One of the main things i miss about plex is how nice the homescreen was. Love Emby but the home screen is so BLAH.1 point

If you have not set up your own server but are planning to use someone else's, then they should give you instructions. The Emby organisation does not provide content, but makes software for personal use. https://emby.media/support/articles/Quick-Start.html Paul1 point

Awesome, you have no idea how much you just saved my day lol, the TV in question is for the kids profile and they are going to love having access finally on their TV.1 point

Here is a fresh example of the bugginess of downloads. I just started download of a handful of TV show episodes, and while this time was more successful than previous attempts, two of the videos are still getting stuck in state "ready to transfer". Let me know if you need me to carry out additional testing.1 point

The error means that Emby Server received a 406 http response codes to the request sent out 406 Not Acceptable The requested resource is capable of generating only content not acceptable according to the Accept headers sent in the request. See Content negotiation. You could enable server debug logging and see details of the request that is being sent out and to which destination - this will be in the raw server logs (not the sanitized downloaded versions) You could attach a full anonamized log file but you investigate the issue using the raw log file which would have the exact url These are some previous examples of reports of such error: here and another here1 point

Oooh good idea thank you! Seems like the issue is fixed by navigating to the Android app info -> Storage & cache -> Clear cache Whether this fix is temporary or not we'll see. Still no clue what caused this issue in the first place1 point

I've given plenty of information. It's all in the filename, as expected. The post itself gave specifics on how they should be named. I really couldn't have been any more clear. Obviously not, because the first example used quite literally used the KB article formatting, and still, it doesn't show up properly. two separate versions of TE3 show up in the library In the forum post I linked, a couple of times actually. If the KB article worked, then I wouldn't be making this post, because, again, the file name is exactly as the kb article suggested.1 point

Idea: perhaps, when in the bit rate settings when watching a video, next to the "Auto" option should be the calculated bandwidth that auto would be using. Example: Auto (28 Mbps)1 point
-
To the Emby team: Been thinking about this some more. Is there a possibility of making it so that 0.0.0.0/24 in lan networks doesn't make it so that admin account is accessible from all networks? That way i can force "auto" to be highest without any problems and have people lower quality when there's problems instead of transcoding every single thing when they don't need to.0 points
