Never seen this before, but my suggestion would have been to do power cycle or hub reset as a last resort if it didn't clear up. Good to see that wasn't needed though.

Took me a while to figure this out. Hope this helps others. I moved from Finland to Spain. Network in my new place was not what I was used to. Most of my 4K media became unwatchable. Turns out that some years back I had manually adapted my network speed settings in emby and now that network nolonger had 10Gbit connectivity my larger files did not play well. If you are suffering from similar issues check emby APP settings. (Up right corner.)

Thanks everyone. I did get it to finally work. I actually have two NAS devices (Terramaster and QNAP). I had EMBY running fine on my Terramaster (my backup NAS) using a username (upper and lowercase) I thought was correct. But I think the QNAP had the same username but only UPPERCASE. I couldn't log in with either on the QNAP. Both NAS's have dual LAN ports. I re-installed EMBY on the QNAP. I don't understand networking enough, but I just noticed my QNAP Emby shows my in-home access on one port and the QNAP homepage I access is on the other port. Ultimately, I was able to create a new instance of EMBY on the QNAP and used my upper/lower case userid and it worked! Many thanks to the Emby community and tech-support.

Previously I had been using the Smart Playlist 2.0 plugin for music (although it isn't working at the moment, so I can't show an image example). It was great for music Playlists, but not that useful for music Collections, because of no music roll up functionality. There was a Collections roll up feature, that only worked for video, as follows: (I did ask about music roll up many months ago, on the relevant forum, but never received an answer, so didn't worry about it further.) As Emby is going to be implementing Smart Playlists/Smart Collections/Smart Views fairly soon, it would be nice to have an equivalent roll up function for music: Item: Collection will contain songs Album: Collection will roll up Songs to Album I expect Emby will have their own (excellent) way of doing the "smart" functions. However it is implemented, please don't forget music!!!

A new beta of the TV only app has been put up. This beta fixes the issue with frame rate switching on the new GStreamer (actually, related to Android 14) but it also implements our new policy of making playback in this app free for normal single-family use. As of this version, playback is free for up to 5 TVs. No other Premiere features are included of course and any use beyond that limit will require a Premiere subscription. Previous unlock purchases are still honored but the unlock is no longer an option going forward. We feel this strategy brings the most value to our common users and makes it more difficult for illegal streamers to get around the device limit. Thanks for your support.

I'm a big fan of services such as Rifftrax, and I hate having to manually mux files every time I purchase another release. Much in the same way that external subtitle file support was added, it would be nice to have external audio track support for TV and movies added as well. I wouldn't expect Emby to handle the offset calculations needed to sync the audio. It's not too difficult for me to modify that now.

Scenario; main tv has a roku or other stb that is used by all. That emby account is restricted to pg only. Instead of changing accounts in emby, could there be a prompt for a pin to access pg13 + content? I've seen this on a cable box back when I used to have them.

You "could" use that quarry more constructively; You could cut out a few stone slabs and then carve your instructions into them, sort of like the commandments from a middle eastern mountain.

It uses more caching for frequently used data. I noticed some repeated requests for the same thing in his log.

And by that we mean that we don't 10 to 12 versions of each movie/show carefully created that allows the client software to switch versions being used on the fly. I.E. if the playback buffer isn't able to be kept full, we need to switch to a lower bitrate version. And the opposite where the buffer is being kept full with time to spare so the client software can switch up to a higher bitrate version. Streaming service normally have all these files in HLS or DASH format (segmented streaming files) while Emby normally has one progressive media file can either be direct played or transcoded on the fly. It can't easily work the same way as the "typical" streaming service as the media isn't pre-created for streaming as previously mentioned. Emby can't easily switch transparently on the fly with bitrate changes as there is no "alternate" file that can be used to pull the next segment. So, the point is that Emby clients have to check the bandwidth available to the client Many users running Emby Servers don't have the luxury of having high-bandwidth internet available to upload with so the number of streams or available bandwidth on the server side comes into play as well. Emby has a lot more to deal with and handle overall. With that said, can the bandwidth algorithms used by Emby be improved? Maybe, and it something always being looked at. Carlo

I did do that later, but with no version in the filename, and no verification in the "latest versions" topic, I was not sure if it was correct. Not a HUGE deal, just something to maybe look at getting a bit better.

Sorry for the late response, notifications are not working for some reason. I think it has a lot to do with their tv, especially if it's a Roku tv. I'm going to try and switch to the Official Emby container again. I direct play over 90% of my media with remote users. I just make them all get newer Fire Tv devices If it's an older tv it isn't going to matter. Thank you.

Parents just don't listen when the kids talk, even if the kids are correct. It is somehow in the genetic coding for humans at this stage of development. The cycle goes like this: When the kids are under 12 the parents know everything and the kids know nothing but are usually trying to learn. Between 12 and 18-20 the kids just can't hear the parents so the communication is minimal. and the parents get stupid. As the kids get older after that the parents begin to get smarter but they also develop partial deafness when their kids talk. At some point the parents finally acknowledge that the kids just might be smart but by then it is often the case that communication becomes increasingly difficult due to the the problems of interspecies communication. My parents, many years ago, asked me to upgrade their home entertainment system including TV and I did and I made a detailed set of instructions of how to use the system and even get it reset back to the start if needed. But they never used many of the features and they continued, until they passed, to watch exactly three channels and had to call me to play a tape. When I was cleaning out their house I found the instructions I gave them in a drawer under a bunch of magazines. it looked like the never used those instructions after the first few days. Also I never entered their home and saw the clock on the VCR showing anything other than a flashing 12:00.

When the server version is upgraded to 4.8.10.0, appleTV plays any video subtitles with Chinese subtitles, but the English subtitles are displayed normally. When Chinese subtitles are used, the picture will be stuck, and the video sound will continue to play without stopping after quitting video playback. Apple TV client is 1.9.0(3) I tried to play video with the old version of appleTV client, and the video subtitles with Chinese subtitles were garbled. sd1727879604_2.mp4

Cool! I could have sworn that it went to 4-6Mbps with auto but glad i'm was wrong. Guess i should change Emby version on my dads old Android satellite box then. He always changes it to auto even when i set it juuuuuust right and tell him not to.

I'm not positive it it will be the case, but this could still cause you issues as you've taken databases from two different versions.

Emby for Android TV behaves the exact same way as the Fire TV app. We are not a streaming service.

I think calling it Auto is confusing and not representative of what a user expects it is. When I see auto I expect the maximum quality my internet can handle, not the lowest common denominator that will work for the average user without issue. Just show the quality the app defaults to rather than the ambiguous "Auto". If the app is going to default to 1080p 4Mbps just show that. If a user sees a low quality by default they are more inclined to increase it, but if they see auto they assume they are already getting the best quality. The mobile apps already have separate settings for Home Network and Internet quality. A streaming device or TV app shouldn't worry about internet connection quality and consistency.

I use MakeMKV to rip my DVDs, when you open the disc you just un-check the subtitles you don't want.

Yes the issue was removal when server is offline -> Fixed in next version.

Hi, well not really. But I got it working with a workaround: I mounted my media folders as nfs-shares to the ubuntu-vm and then mounted the shares in the emby docker container. Everything is working now. Thanks for your help!

That is the problem, I do not have the markers set. Thanks for clarifying that, I thought the default intro detection would also set the credits markers as well.

There is a 'users.db' but trying to take only a piece of the puzzle is what has gotten you to where you are now... We support full backups and full restores through our plugin.

I too have had this issue few times. Sometimes I want to chown my library files because NAS gets files from different devices with different user names and permissions. Everytime I do a recursive mass change file ownerships or permissions my emby goes nuts and starts to rescan 10K files. Takes a while. Not really necessary IMHO (unless filename changes.)

I don't think anyone is actively working against it, it was abandoned when the core feature of intro detection was added to Emby. The main problem is it was abandoned, there is no current plugin dev maintaining it or releasing it.

Found out the reason for the pale colors. Best way i can describe it is that when playing a movie that's being transcoded in firefox the video gets pale when the control menu pops but but everything goes back to normal when the menu goes away. Still can't find a reason for the higher than usual CPU usage but it doesn't bother me that much. Anyway, as far as i'm concerned it's working now.

As i remember it you can add an IMDB id something like in the form of MovieName(Date)(IMDB=IDnumber).ext The exact format is covered in the Emby movie naming section or there will probably be someone around soon that will correct whatever I mistakenly posted.

I haven't tested connected to a receiver yet but, connected to my TV, sending DTS results in hissing instead of audio. You have to de-select the options in the app to get audio.

The Google Streamer does not support bitstreaming (passthrough) of DTX-HD, DTS:X, True HD Atmos but will convert those formats into 7.1 LPCM audio instead. You must disable those formats in the settings until Google releases an update that fixes this bug in the current release firmware. In short, yes it plays those formats, no your audio receiver won't light up showing those formats but will show LPCM instead, and TrueHD Atmos and DTS:X meta data will get stripped and be treated as TrueHd or DTS-MA. This comes down to a licensing decision on the Google's part. Those formats only exist on Blurays and these devices are not made with the goal to playback bluray rips. They are made with the intention of playing back Netflix, Prime, Apple TV, etc all of which only support DD+. The Shield TV is the exception to this, which when you consider the licensing fees, may factor into the reason for the higher cost. This is why after 8 years the Shield TV is still the most popular device for home theatre enthusiasts, it's unlikely that we will see another streaming box release, other than by Nvidia, that does this all.

i wrote this plugin as a POC to see if it could be done. I actually dont use it but there were a lot of people that were complaining about strm entries not having all the metadata filled in so I created this plugin as an experiment. adding a bunch of settings and config to emby plugins is actually a pain in the ass, my hope was someone would pick this plugin up and run with it but we are seeing fewer and fewer devs willing to contribute to plugins etc recently so i am not sure that is going to happen now. creating ux to selectively include or exclude libraries is not a small amount of work for plugin dev, hopefully someone can step up and take that on.

This is already shown in the video I publised but not a solution or a workaround. Some users, just quit the app or shut down their tv, expecting that Apple TV goes off too (if remotes are linked), as a result, their apple TV keeps on and the server keeps streaming the video until it finishes ....

Hmmm, my guess is still that Emby is combining Album Artist/Artist/Composer metadata/tags all together into the new Genre Artist section??? I think the only place that Emby really properly separates the 3 is at the top level Music Navigation Tab for the 3 distinct page views. (I could be wrong though.) A similar type of combining happens with Songs, whereby Songs Performed by an Artist are mixed with Songs Composed by the same person, but performed by someone else. I don't have the eminent Ludwig to check this (and it's probably impossible to anyway) but the modern Paul (as in McCartney) causes the same issue. Yes, it's the same person, but the three metadata fields/tags have different meanings and should be treated as such by Emby for all music navigation and playback purposes. Sure, no problem with linking Composers to Genres as a choice, where some people may want to see this, but there are many valid use-cases to have the option to separate/filter linked Album Artist/Artist/Composer Genre/Song relationships from each other. Is there a good rationale for the fixed combining that is happening?
