Zidoo has a line of four new boxes coming out using the Amlogic S928X-K processor. Thanks @Audiomixerfor giving me a heads-up as I was about to buy the one of the current models. On their webpage they mention some sort of support for mounting and streaming from several services with Emby's logo listed. Not sure exactly what that entails though. Pic from OS Here's a link to the base model. If you have a nice sound system you may be interested in one of the 3 upper models. https://www.zidoo.tv/Product/index/model/Z9X+8K/target/UXVVvon[ld]QlVKKmVViAFMcQ%3D%3D.html Also, if interested there is a long thread in the Zidoo forum with someone who already has a couple of the new models and has been very good at answering questions. You can preorder from Futeko now or wait and they usually end up on Amazon eventually.2 points

So we have mapped out a plan for Zidoo-specific customizations to exoplayer, just haven't been able to do them yet.2 points

I was able to find the error, in my case the folder where the media was added, emby did not have permission, I gave permission and the transfer was carried out with the converted file.2 points

As you're running docker, the first thing that comes to mind: is the timezone within the docker container set correctly? You should have an environment variable set within your run command or compose file: Environment: - TZ=America/Vancouver2 points

For me mostly it's additional codecs like HDR10+ and AV1 and maybe a few others. There is actually a lot of HDR10+ media now from streaming services. Not so much from UHD source. I would expect it to be snappier with the newer SOC. Better picture too from maxcll and maxfall, 12bit color, etc. I'm reading something about those with nonDV TVs playing DV, but I'm not 100% on how it does that (I know that really doesn't apply to you). 4K display. What I don't know is what the Emby experience will be on it. Most people on the Zidoo forum don't use Emby and just use Zidoo's own software. There are some posts of people in here though saying they are using their older Zidoo boxes with Emby. Plus, I like to play, and the Shield is getting old.2 points

Hey All, Firstly, excellent work! secondly, I noticed that this has stopped working in Emby 4.6.4.0, I have forked the repo and fixed if anyone is interested. (Have PR out for main repo) https://github.com/ShanePe/Emby.SmartPlaylist.Plugin/ Sorry also, I have made an update, if the playlist has NOT yet been generated, it will generate it, regardless of the playlist schedule trigger. So one no longer need to 'manually' run first to initialize the playlist if it falls outside of playlist generation schedule. (Make sense !?!?!?!) Version 2.4.0.3 Feature Create a copy of a playlist. (Duplicate) Decluttered UI by adding a pop up menu to playlists New Criteria: Added Audio Stream Codec Criteria (Stream: Audio Codec) Added Audio Stream Language Criteria (Stream: Audio Language) Added Audio Stream Display title Criteria (Stream: Audio Display Title) Added Subtitle Stream Language Criteria (Stream: Subtitle Language) Added Video Stream Codec Criteria (Stream: Video Codec) Added Video Stream Display title Criteria (Stream: Video Display Title) Updated Criteria: Parental Rating: Now uses official rating under the hood Resolution Height: Now uses video streams to determine the available video heights rather than the metadata. Resolution Width: Now uses video streams to determine the available video widths rather than the metadata. Added Monitor Mode to shuffle playlist type. Meaning that the playlist will be destroyed and recreated on a schedule, but between scheduled executions, media item changes will be batched and monitored for inclusion/exclusion. (So .... combination of live and shuffle modes but could have a perf hit on larger playlists, experimental) Collapsible sections in the playlist editor that keeps state, for more UI real estate. Added the ability to add notes to a playlist (limited to 256 chars). If there are notes assigned a pop up is displayed when hovering over a playlist (2 second delay). Order all selection lists on criteria with dropdowns alphabetically. ------------------------------------------------------- Releases Here -> (See change logs in this thread .... way down) Plugin for Emby Server 4.8: SmartPlaylist-2.5.0.4810.zip1 point

Guys, The ebook side of Emby/MediaBrowser has been long stalled or rather stagnated. I would like to offer up a couple of suggestions. Many people use calibre as an ebook/comic book tool for scraping data and general management of their collection already. This program is absolutely astonishing in its ability to pull metadata from post calibre scans, as well as draw in metadata from the file source and/or directory structure. http://vaemendis.net/ubooquity/ Its a self contained .jar server/reader combination. And honestly I am very impressed by it's small footprint and wide range of abilities. The other option is COPS , which was written specifically with calibre in mind. It is open source, so making it work with emby I would think would be fairly easy. https://blog.slucas.fr/projects/calibre-opds-php-server/ Ever since the original release of MediaBrowser's bookshelf I have always wanted something that would allow me to 'read' my collection, rather than being basically nothing more than a place-set for images of books I own. I am sure that those who mainly have audiobooks are thrilled with bookshelf , but it's nothing more than an extension of the music library IMHO, not new features. We can have both right? Here I give you two suggestions free of charge.. Just because I love you, and Emby Personally I plan on running the Ubooquity Server along side of Emby from now on, just because of it's massive functionality and tiny footprint. But I sure hope that someone decides -- "yeah, ebook support should be in here too" and do something about it - rather than allow this now very very ancient issue to continue to remain an issue. And so I don't have to have 20 different ports open, some with SSL support - some not, because Emby isn't delivering the 'complete package'. (Please take some of this with humor, I know you have your hands full with improvements/bugs/suggestions/requests)1 point

I often want to know the date I last played something but there's no way of finding out in the web interface. I know the date is stored somewhere as you can sort by Date Played. Please make it visible in the metadata or on the itemdetails page.1 point

I am switching over from a Win7 box running MBC to Chromecast dongles. With the Win7 box I had a HDMI to Cat6 setup that allowed me to stream to up to 4 displays/TVs simultaneously. It was great while it lasted, but involved stapling cables to the ceiling to run it from room to room - plus it has borked Can there be an option to multi-cast to several receivers at once? i.e. simultaneously play to Chromecast dongles in my office and living room and kitchen simultaneously so i can walk from room to room without stopping and restarting the movie or show all the time? I realize that bandwidth could POTENTIALLY be an issue, but i have a fill gigabit network and a multi-port NAS so that really is the least of my worries... Thank you!1 point

I've been dying to know if this has garnered enough interest to be worked on. I found Emby (MediaBrowser 3 at the time) and its bookshelf plugin while I was searching for something that was like Plex for comics. Plex doesn't do this (and probably never will), Kodi doesn't have what I'm looking for either, and ComicRack seems to be dead at the moment. Unfortunately the bookshelf plugin doesn't work the way I had hoped. I was dissappointed to see it only offer a download to the file to which I can open it to the program of my choosing. Even browsing through the books I only had the option of going through folder-like directories and couldn't browse by author like the people section in the other media types. I would love for it to be fully integrated into Emby where I can open and read a comic right on my phone and tablet or even my web browser as I could with my movies and tv shows. Also, I hope to god somone is working on the "Games launching in android" feature you mentioned on your up-for-grabs blog post. That would be awesome!1 point

I can start downloading subs again if I delete my credentials and restart the server. Does it default back to the non-vip API at that point?1 point

Yes changes have been made to make the rules more lenient and less strict. I think what needs to happen is adding an option in library setup to control whether this is enabled or not.1 point
-
No it is obsolete. @Lukedid something change here or break as folder and file beginning with same name are grouped with dash and space dash or dashdash variables. No dash will break the group. should not be grouped as it is no the rule. E:\Media\Music videos\Eminem \Eminem-My Name Is.mkv \Eminem-The Real Slim Shady.mkv So it appear options are change folder name to say Eminem MV or change file name removing dash or to a different character ~. Only tested in 4.9.0.261 point
-
Well yes as it no longer conforms to multi-version rule. Each version must begin with the folder name, followed by " - ". So changing folder to not match filename or change the dash spacing.1 point

No. I said I have no time for doing all of this. It's really meant for when you have already gotten to a certain point where you need any of that information. Thanks1 point

Thanks, I appreciate the help in solving this problem. That process flow works for me, and I will use it moving forward1 point

Right now it's a difficult flow that needs to be improved. You need to grant them access to all so that they can sign in, then it will be added to the list and you can restrict after that. But then going forward you have to remember this process whenever a user has a new device.1 point

Just been reading the Zidoo thread - the Emby File Manager looks curious ...1 point

Ahh ya, totally brain dumped ATV is checking the Android version to determine if it will support smb. So, technically for the average user who hasn't flashed their Shields like the 3 of us it would be the same. They are premium devices. The Z9X is on par with the Shield's price when it first came out, but the others are out there.1 point

The only Emby clients capable of direct SMB is Emby Theater (Windows/Linux) and Emby for AndroidTV using SE8/Android 9. All other clients are HTTP only... So it unfortunately doesn't really matter if the Zidoo supports SMBv3, the Emby Client can't use it on the majority of clients... That being said, the native client looks pretty cool, maybe there is some Emby 'Agent' available that syncs playback etc, like Kodi does. That would be pretty neat, I certainly have no allegiance to the Emby clients, especially the Universal one which imho leaves a lot to be desired ... edit - Ouch! - they are also a bit pricey !1 point

Hi, can you try clearing browsing data and see if that helps? Thanks !1 point

Also i tried that i clicked save artwork into media fodler i refreshed the metadata and it replaced the saved image. Do i need to disable image capture for it to work with it since i dont want to disable image capture for every episode just some episodes i want my own custom thumbnail? Never mind i figured it out i shouldn't click replace image since it downloads the image it from the internet and deletes the local just need to click refresh metadata only.1 point

Could you share a screenshot of how many libraries and with which paths you have created (Settings>Library tab)? As this appears as overlapping paths (not supported) at the first glance:1 point

In addition to this topic, is there any possibility / feature that the imdb score is synchronised periodically? Now the rating that is shown is often very different with the actual current score it seems.1 point

There are probably different ways to do this, but I've reprogrammed the Netflix button using Button Mapper to start Emby. Button Mapper can program single click, hard press, and double click for that button so technically 3 different apps possible. When I click the button, it powers up my Shield and auto starts Emby now. I also have Xplore programmed in case I need to install a new version of Emby first, but 99% of the time it's straight to Emby.1 point

Issue still comes back to legitimate source. But can see YouTube being good quality but bad do to required ad injection.1 point

Why not spend that same energy to implement password entropy checks, or how about some https wizards/integration from certificate providers/lets encrypt. This will benefit the masses 'out the box' and enhance the security profile for all users, not just those that already have https and frankly those that likely already have a RP in place, decent passwords and a basic understanding of what cyber security is. Emby need to build a more secure base product - not prioritise time integrating something that cannot even be used with their base product... Once the base product has the bare security essentials, then add MFA - nobody has ever said it was a poor idea.1 point

I've been using Plex for some time now but still like the visual display that Kodi provides. Would like to know if Emby will ever start to use logos for such things as the audio format/codec (Atmos, DTS X, etc), format (bluray, DVD, 4K bluray, etc)..... Only asking because visually, its appealing and also allows for the user to readily see what the formats are. Thanks1 point

@Luke I wrote down the process I followed to create a custom DLNA profile for my stereo. It occurred to me that it might serve as a starting point for Emby's documentation. Please feel free to use it, with whatever modifications you find necessary, to develop the Help page for this feature: ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Creating a Custom DLNA Profile Emby's debug-level logging can help you identify your DLNA device. The information found here can be used to create a custom profile. Finding detailed device information for DLNA: 1. Enable debug logging on Emby server. 2. Allow your DLNA-capable device to connect to your Emby server. 3. On your Emby server, go to Settings > Logs and open the most recent log. 4. Find the entries in the log file that resemble the following: 5. In the first line of the sample log above, find the "User-Agent," and its value. This will be used to create an HTTP Header in your custom profile (the value is the entire string between "User-Agent=" and the comma preceding the next parameter. In the sample, the "User-Agent" value is "Mediabolic-IMHTTP/1.8.225 UPNP/1.0 DLNADOC/1.50"). The information gathered above can be used to create a custom DLNA profile for the device on your Emby server. Creating a custom DLNA profile: 1. In Settings > DLNA, select the "Profiles" tab. 2. Click the "+" next to "Custom Profiles" to create a new profile. 3. Give the profile a name. 4. Select a library, or leave this field alone to use the default. 5. Expand the "Identification" section. Use the information you found in step 4 to populate these fields. 6. At the bottom of the "Identification" section, click the "+" next to HeaderHttpHeaders. 7. Use the "User-Agent" value that you found in the log file to fill this out. Name = "User-Agent" (without quotation marks) Value = [value from your log] 8. Click "Save." This will create a profile that should allow your DLNA device to successfully connect to your Emby server. The default values of the fields not discussed above should be suitable for most users. It is recommended to only change them if you know what you are doing. Testing the profile: Once you have created your custom profile, you can test it by allowing your device to re-connect to your Emby server. Examine the log file again, as you did at the beginning of this process. If the custom profile is successfully used, instead of seeing "Using default profile for: ..." your device, the log file should say: "Found matching device profile: [name of your device profile]". Be sure to set the "Enable debug logging" back to "No" when you are done.1 point

Hey @Happy2Play, thanks for sharing the information above.. it is certainly useful to have. but it does not address the need I am bringing up.. allow me to explain... As you already know, Emby used to be called MediaBrowser... and the word Browser is key here... Imagine the following.. you are sitting with family and "Browsing" for the next movie to watch, then you stop at this "good movie" that has a played tick on it, and you ask yourself and others, when did I/we watched this movie (so it is a social thing of great value), and all you have to do is open said item, and just below the picture it said, "Played on 27/11/2017", and you turn around and say "oohh yeah.. we watched this on thanksgiving 5 years ago.. do you remember blah blah blah.." This makes Emby a powerful tool as a memory and conversation starter and it gives Emby a powerful emotional connection to its users.1 point
-
I think this is an important "small" feature request that will have big impact as "new" users got exposed to it... it basically makes Emby as your memory assistant.. So, you are browsing for your next movie, you see a movie that is already played.. you ask yourself, "when did I see that", and you open the item, and see the date, and that will jog your memory not only to the movie, but part of your life when you actually viewed that movie... powerful tool to have. Sadly, the sort by "played date", or getting a report from your server plug in does not address the same topic. this two very useful features is for when you are seeking answer, and not when you are just casually browsing.. i.e., it is good for detective work, and not for browsing and social activities.1 point

It's a complex subject and I wanted to respond to some other things first and see whether I'd be still in the mood to explain In fact, the recent couples of posts are covering so many things that I'm not quite sure where to start. Let's go for the ramdisk part first: First of all: Sure! We have all learned that we can improve performance of certain processing tasks by things like using SSDs instead of conventional HDs and ultimately even using RAM disks. What are those "certain tasks" that can be accelerated by such measures? => IO-bound tasks, i.e. tasks where the limiting factor is IO throughput Is this actually a problem that we're having with transcoding that we'd need to solve? => No - not at all. Even with the fastest hw accelerations or even when assuming one that would be infinitely fast - the source data needs to come from somewhere. It doesn't come from RAM - it comes from some disk. The output bandwidth when transcoding is usually much smaller than the input, so what comes from some disk storage (network or local) can easily be saved to another disk storage. Are there any reasons at all, why we would want to accelerate disk IO? Now, let's assume an odd case, like 5 transcodings of videos from 5 different source disks, with the results all landing at our single disk with the transcoding-temp folder. Even in that case, we would need an extremely powerful hardware acceleration to saturate the transcoding-temp disk's, IO capacity. And there, we would have each of those 5 transcodings running at a multiple (e.g. 5x or even 50x) of the required transcoding speed (1x). By default, we are running transcodings "as fast as possible". That's not really a good thing, because this will always cause to max out one of the following resources: CPU processing, system memory IO, disk IO, hwa IO or hwa processing - to its limit, even though that wouldn't be required in any way to improve the user experience. It's often a waste of resources - e.g. when a user stops watching after 5 minutes and we have already transcoded the whole video.. To deal with those things and use resources more wisely, we have introduced throttling - just the opposite of "as fast as possible", for all those cases where transcoding is running much faster than needed. Looking at the other end: None of all those cases where transcoding is too slow, can be accelerated by using a RAM disk. Actually, this has just the opposite effect: it can slow down your transcodings instead of accelerating. And not just that: A ramdisk can even negatively affect Emby server operation in general. The problem with the throttling we have is that it is binary - like a refrigerator: there's just ON or OFF switching over time. While it's on, it still runs with maximum speed. Transcoding itself requires a lot of memory IO - all this IO bandwidth will be taken away and not available for regular Emby operation. And now you want to add a ramdisk on top of this, creating even additional memory IO for writing and reading? Very bad idea! The more shoulders on which we can put these things, the better - the right "shoulder" for transcoding temp is a disk. Even when the CPU does the transfer of memory in either case - it's still totally different: RAM is just not optimized for such access patterns. When you use the RAM in this way, you will permanently flush the memory caches (specifically L3) with other data, and this can in turn very badly affect sw filtering operations where the same memory needs to be accessed repeatedly. Edit: And as mentioned, also Emby Server and all other server operations. In Summary With a RAM disk, you would: Either not accelerate anything or at best, accelerate something that is already running much faster than needed Use memory IO bandwidth and CPU cycles (for memcopy) - which are badly needed for other operations Negatively impact overall server operation1 point

It would be great to watch the same program as your other family members and friends that you have given access to your library. On the Emby Homepage, it could highlight, what others on your server are currently watching, and give the option to "join-in" (at approximately the same point), or watch the same program from the beginning. Also when others start watching something, there could be a pop-up dialogue to ask if you want to join-in. There could also be an option to sync play/pause/seek states for all users watching the same program. I realize that "sync playback" has long been asked for to have several TVs in the same house play simultaneously, but due to issues in getting things in proper sync is an issue. Please ignore the urge to dismiss this feature under the same pretense. My mother in Ontario will not notice is my PC in Alberta is 30 milliseconds out of sync with hers.1 point
