Hi, I'm not sure if this is the correct section for sharing feedback. I just wanted to take a moment to share my experience. I recently started using Emby after experiencing constant crashes and slow loading with another popular competitor. I never thought I would opt for a paid subscription to Emby, but after using the app, I'm genuinely impressed with what you have achieved so far. The app is incredibly user-friendly, and the streaming experience is outstanding. Because of this positive experience, I happily subscribed to the premium subscription and even discontinued a popular streaming service that I had been paying for, as Emby has been working wonderfully. Keep up the excellent work team, and maintain the simplicity of the apps

Unfortunately, it's only via the API now. The encoding.xml file is no longer honored.

If you have them both the J4025 should be better for media. If you're shopping for something then neither.

I'm a plex life time member, but I have been using Emby for over six years continuously, but there is a feature which I have always thought is missing in Emby which I would like and encourage the developer to consider including especially in this dispensation where families can social or commingle due to COVID 19. Today, I received a notification from Plex about it new feature titled Watch together you can read about it here https://support.plex.tv/articles/watch-together/ The feature allows friends and families at distance to watch same movies together instantly, you simply invite all your buddy, once they signed to the system which can be seeing in the server then play and pause as needed, this I think is cool feature should be added to emby. Using 4.8.3 server upcoming TV episodes take forever to load on android client, to the point where I just give up waiting, for the web client about a full minute before they load. Server 4.7 is instant in either. embyserver.txt

Hello everyone, For the last couple of months, I've been trying different media servers. I was going to settle with Emby, but there are some metadata problems I couldn't fix, and I was unable to find the solution. The problem is that the episode descriptions for my anime episodes are displayed in Japanese, although the episode title is displayed correctly. You see, my first language is Russian, and English is secondary. So, if there's no metadata in Russian, I don't mind if it's displayed in English. Currently, my library looks like this: As you can see, the episode descriptions are in Japanese, while the episode names are correct. Is there a setting I'm missing? How do I make it grab metadata in English if my first language isn't available? Here, I set one of the episode's languages to English. The description is now in English, but now episode names are in English too: I apologize if this is a repeat issue, but I couldn't find any relevant discussions. All other popular media servers I tried (linked to the same library) don't have this issue.

Not necessarily for the reasons of this post…. But the Emby team has started engaging more with users here and on other forums as to how they use their servers, what use cases etc. We are making a conscious effort to engage more and “talk” to our users.

Emby doesn´t do HDR and Dolby Vision on the Apple TV. Plex does. Infuse does. So, until Emby for the ATV supports HDR/DV, it can never win.

The ability to restrict this per user has been added in Emby Server 4.8. Thanks everyone.

I have an OSMC running kodi 20.3. But I assume it's not a kodi thing, since everything is working from an old Lenovo tablet with the same emby app version. I will try to test a 4th non Google pixel device soon.

Logs not required at this point, thanks. Frankly sounds like a Kodi bug. What happens if you adjust the volume on Kodi? Actually that's what the plugin does.

That's my experience on any android client too. Given it literally doesn't work for a lot of the time I think it would be best to enable a radio button to allow those who choose to cache the info. I understand a lot of other stuff being dumped to trim the DB, but at least let us have this? What say you @Luke

Someone on topic, I was thinking of something similar to this couple weeks ago... Customizable TV channel lists. Example.. I have channels ranging from Channel 1.1 through 59.4 I also have channels ranging from 100 all the way up to 70,000.. Of course it's going to take or it would be nearly impossible for somebody to scroll through all those channels or if they did they would spend all day doing it.. So, I thought wouldn't it be nice if I had a customizable shareable channel list that is selectable by each user. Selection #1 Show all Selection #2 DTV Selection #3 Cable TV And so on...

So I guess it's falling back to the original language of the show rather than english?

Wanted to come back and provide an update. I updated my Emby server to 4.7.14 and it resolved the issue.

Here I was starting to manually convert media files to get Emby playing as is. @LessajThat did the trick. I was hesitant to try it from the previously linked post regarding the matter as there seemed to be remaining issues. But all is well now. Thank you and @Happy2Playboth for the support.

Why not make this an optional feature, if having it slows the system so much. Maybe some of us are willing to give it up.

All I can tell you from the log is that the client had an issue trying to play the file, so it is trying to directstream the file (instead of directplay) but due to the subtitle selection it requires burn-in of subtitles so it is then trying to transcoding, which is failing. It looks like transcoding is not really starting. As and test, can you turn off any subtitles from the details screen before selecting play and see if that works? Also try turning off hardware based transcoding and see if that helps

another live tv user that makes no use of the "free" emby gide data. my reasoning is different to the above. i agree that WMC was far more functional than emby has yet achieved wrt scheduling and recording, but i mostly managed that by throwing enough tuners at it that conflicts are impossible. my reason is ease of config and reliability. emby has come a decent way in the last couple of years but nothing has been introduced that brings it up to a par with the external options, certainly nothing thats been worth risking disruption to my rock solid setup. i prefer to manage my m3us and match my epg data from schedules direct via epg123 in iptvboss. then emby just gets 2 curated outputs that need no matching in emby. my other concern was that live tv config was not backed up by emby, so having it handled externally gave me that resilience. however, when tvnext finally sees the light in full then i would likely abandon the third party stuff and use emby guide data. I also make no use of the tvdbv4 data through emby. i prefer to use TMM to give me extra control over metadata and fetch additional info that emby does support but does not fetch. seems like some better engagement by emby with users on how they actually use their software may lead to better strategic decisions being made - whoever would have thought?

Actually I believe that Emby should not even try to handle live TV. There are plenty of other programs that handle live TV and, particularly if it is Emby's largest expense, supporting the extreme complexities just makes little sense.

Where ever this cost thing is going, I also hope that the lifetime option is not going away. I would not tolerate a monthly payment requirement. A low hanging fruit to raise revenue seems to be the TV guide data. I was concerned when this was introduced that the ongoing cost for these data is not sustainable with the lifetime option. The TV guide data are of limited use to me as I need international guides not available through emby, so I pay for these from another source anyway. Perhaps a monthly fee can be charged for these data. Next, it seems fine to further limit to entirely free use of emby. Perhaps some of these features can be offer in a lite version at reduced lifetime or monthly cost. If the situation is really dire, one could also move from v4 to v5. My understanding is that lifetime payment is good for v4 updates, so going to v5 would allow hitting existing lifetime users with a one-time upgrade charge at a discounted rate. Of course this is going to stir some anger with some lifetime-payment users, so apply with thought.

I made an updated version that should fix the issue. This should also be compatible with nested folder structures, the "Top Picks", and the "New Releases" plugin. I also improved the logging a bit. However, I did only very limited testing, so use it at your own risk and please create a backup before you try it. Feature Request. A present I have several user accounts setup for family members. When we sit down together to watch a movie we currently log into one account (Mostly mine), so obviously only this account gets the watched status. What happens then is everyone uses my account because there's isn't up-to date and it's "just easier". This results in my account telling me I've watched something when I haven't... I would like the ability to log into my account and select/deselect which other users are present so that when a movie/TV episode is watched together, their watched statuses are updated accordingly? The next time you log in again all other users would have been deselected. It could be implemented so each user account can do this, or only select user accounts can. Even a special "Family" user account, or multiple viewers button as long as everyone's watched status is correct. Even just ticking the users present on the login screen before login into an account.

Hi all. I recently completed some library icons and wanted to share them. Big shout out to @maxigmv for the inspiration for the style. I really liked his icons but wanted something without the sub-headings. I only created what I needed for my library but have included the source file in Illustrator. There are separate art boards for each and there is a dark and light version of each, font is Monteserrat. Icons used are customized from a material set, drop in and color any vector icon as needed. I decided to throw in an Emby inspired icon for collections. I hope you enjoy them. I'd be happy to create some new icons on demand but given the time it takes to find them would need someone to send vector versions of the icon for any request. Cheers, and enjoy. library icons.zip

Any news guys? Simple will be the idea, let the user upload any image and just allow to link it to a play list or a specific movie/series. no more than 6 or 7 items. And to turn it on and off if they want to. Off by default for people that does not know how to use it.

Often times when I see "Reason for transcodng: Media bitrate exceeds limit." in the info I wonder, what kind of internet connection do they have? I know this can cover multiple scenarios like bandwidth limit set for user, server, client side quality setting, as well as AUTO bandwidth detection... Can you PLEASE add to the dashboard the returned client bandwidth capabilities? The value you are getting from the client that tells emby its bandwidth abilities. While you are at it tighten up the spaces between lines on the transcode items, and align the results to the right instead of center.. MAYBE SOMETHING LIKE THIS :

i understand what you’re saying but I am not a fan of all that slicing and dicing charging. I want to pay a lump sum and not think any more about it. In my opinion Emby needs to make a v5, that rolls in TV Next and other key new developments, and just charge a lot more for everyone who moves onto that. V4 can be left as care and maintenance.
