  1. Thank you to everyone who took the time to ask the Emby team questions across all of the different platforms including here on the forums. There were a lot of great questions that were thrown our way and we've been excited to get the answers out to you. While some of the questions we were not able to answer, we did our best to give you the most accurate and clear answers possible. Now without further ado, here is the first series of questions and answers for you to look over! Please keep in mind more questions and answers will be coming in additional blog posts in the coming days, so not all questions are being answered today. Who owns Emby? Emby LLC owns the Emby product and is a private entity. The owners are undisclosed but note that the development team has full control over the direction of the product. We are not beholden to or under the influence of any investor or investment group. What is the history of Emby? Emby grew out of an open source project called MediaBrowser. Emby's origin in concept came out of that project but there is actually none of that code base still within it. Emby ended up being completely built from the ground up to be a server-based ecosystem as opposed to just a single app as the old MediaBrowser was. Around 2011 what is now the core development team for Emby were contributors to MediaBrowser. We saw the opportunity to build something more flexible than the WMC environment would allow and embarked on creating what we then called MB 3. The core developers spent over a year furiously writing code before anything was released to the public. It was then probably another two years of dedicated development before anything was truly usable as a system. In 2015 it was decided that we had moved so far away from what MB originally was that we needed a new name. A few of the devs got together and came up with "Emby". There are a few reasons behind that name but one of the main ones was that you needed something that wasn't already trademarked and domained. Emby fit that bill and has the benefit of sounding like "MB" when you say it. With the new name, we needed a new logo and we actually held a contest in the forum taking contributions from users and that finally landed us on the logo you see now. Since 2015 we have expanded the team and worked diligently to try and continue to craft the best truly personal media server system we can. We still have a long way to go but have also come a long way to where we are. What are the most popular Emby clients? We do not have exact data on this, due to sideloading and the such, but through the app store platforms we can gain general ideas. Android is the most popular amongst our userbase (both mobile and TV) with iOS in second place as the most downloaded app. What Emby clients do the development team use most for personal use? Our development team uses a wide variety of apps just as our user base does. We have people on the team using Android on mobile and TV, iOS, Apple TV, Roku and Xbox as well. As you can see our dev team really is as diverse as our user base when it comes to how we use the server. These were just a few of the questions about Emby as a product and who we are. In the next blog post we will be covering a few different things such as some of the future goals of Emby as well as release schedules and more!

  2. I guess you need to write a feature request. Emby (or Plex, or Jellyfin) is based on the idea that metadata for a large amount of media can be acquired automatically and used to structure the access to that media. You are asking for a mechanism for manually making arbitrary exceptions to that structuring (given that the metadata providers aren't going to help with this). I can see the point, but I can also see that the developers are likely to see this as a low priority option, especially as I suspect this is only a significant issue with anime. From my own point of view, I don't find it hard to know where things are and watch them in order using the present system. Paul

  3. Good day, Emby community support forum welcome any feedback from our members, unfortunately some are using that to misleading with false fact about the products, wasting other members time, we normally give these type of members a time, but some continue doing this. This community start way back on 2013, we rarely used this option with some members, when no other option to let these members stop these false fact posting, or simply spamming the forum with these type of worthless post, then we force to use this. So, if you are in this spot, no problem, it's not a ban, it simply your post will be moderated and need our mod's team to prove it, if your post start to be a good one "in fact matters" either against or with emby products, then the restricted will left off. We always welcome all type of feedback, we start this community with, and will always do. Thank you all. My best

  5. Okay, so gonna put out a very rough release tomorrow for testing. There are some annoying things I can’t seem to get around but have a basic version working :)

  6. In essence it's exactly the same, but you put it in a directory of your choosing and create your own shortcut to it instead of letting the installer do it. Emby doesn't put stuff in the registry or anything like that. Paul

  7. This is the intended behaviour. You check remember me, and the app remembers your profile. 'Switch users' to use another profile. 'sign out' removes the remembered credentials. Optionally you can add a pin (and select 'yes when prompted) so that profile can't be switched to on that app without entering its pin. The pin is NOT a direct replacement for your password. It cannot be used exclusively like it was previously. It's only used when returning to a profile that has been signed in already. I still think the app should open to the switch users screen instead of immediately prompting for the last used users pin.

  8. Another thing to check, as it's a new Windows install - is the networking set to public? It should be private, which removes many restrictions. Paul

  10. /var seems like an odd place to use to put your mounts but I guess there's nothing really stopping you. chmod 777 is kind of dangerous and not the right way to handle permissions. There's various methods you use between file/folder ownership and groups but if you want to be sure that the emby user has permission to the location you can: sudo su -s /bin/bash emby touch /var/SAN01/Serie/afile

  11. I'm a plex life time member, but I have been using Emby for over six years continuously, but there is a feature which I have always thought is missing in Emby which I would like and encourage the developer to consider including especially in this dispensation where families can social or commingle due to COVID 19. Today, I received a notification from Plex about it new feature titled Watch together you can read about it here https://support.plex.tv/articles/watch-together/ The feature allows friends and families at distance to watch same movies together instantly, you simply invite all your buddy, once they signed to the system which can be seeing in the server then play and pause as needed, this I think is cool feature should be added to emby. Let's here your though if Emby developer should consider adding this feature to our beloved Emby Media https://www.bing.com/news/search?q=Plex+Watch+Together&qpvt=plex+watch+together&FORM=EWRE

  12. Guys, The ebook side of Emby/MediaBrowser has been long stalled or rather stagnated. I would like to offer up a couple of suggestions. Many people use calibre as an ebook/comic book tool for scraping data and general management of their collection already. This program is absolutely astonishing in its ability to pull metadata from post calibre scans, as well as draw in metadata from the file source and/or directory structure. http://vaemendis.net/ubooquity/ Its a self contained .jar server/reader combination. And honestly I am very impressed by it's small footprint and wide range of abilities. The other option is COPS , which was written specifically with calibre in mind. It is open source, so making it work with emby I would think would be fairly easy. https://blog.slucas.fr/projects/calibre-opds-php-server/ Ever since the original release of MediaBrowser's bookshelf I have always wanted something that would allow me to 'read' my collection, rather than being basically nothing more than a place-set for images of books I own. I am sure that those who mainly have audiobooks are thrilled with bookshelf , but it's nothing more than an extension of the music library IMHO, not new features. We can have both right? Here I give you two suggestions free of charge.. Just because I love you, and Emby Personally I plan on running the Ubooquity Server along side of Emby from now on, just because of it's massive functionality and tiny footprint. But I sure hope that someone decides -- "yeah, ebook support should be in here too" and do something about it - rather than allow this now very very ancient issue to continue to remain an issue. And so I don't have to have 20 different ports open, some with SSL support - some not, because Emby isn't delivering the 'complete package'. (Please take some of this with humor, I know you have your hands full with improvements/bugs/suggestions/requests)

  13. Could code be added in an upcoming release of Emby to make the left Sidebar, introduced with 4.8, configurable in Home Sceeen settings or set to closed/collapsed by default? It would be great if it could be set in the Home Screen settings to an initial state of Open, Min-Docked, or Closed - which seem to be the 3 states. I believe it relates to this item mentioned in the Additions and Improvements listed in the 4.8 Release Announcement? - Add three way toggle nav menu to web app - Thanks!!

  14. I've been dying to know if this has garnered enough interest to be worked on. I found Emby (MediaBrowser 3 at the time) and its bookshelf plugin while I was searching for something that was like Plex for comics. Plex doesn't do this (and probably never will), Kodi doesn't have what I'm looking for either, and ComicRack seems to be dead at the moment. Unfortunately the bookshelf plugin doesn't work the way I had hoped. I was dissappointed to see it only offer a download to the file to which I can open it to the program of my choosing. Even browsing through the books I only had the option of going through folder-like directories and couldn't browse by author like the people section in the other media types. I would love for it to be fully integrated into Emby where I can open and read a comic right on my phone and tablet or even my web browser as I could with my movies and tv shows. Also, I hope to god somone is working on the "Games launching in android" feature you mentioned on your up-for-grabs blog post. That would be awesome!

  15. Emby Server 4.8.3.0 HI, This has been a peeve of mine for a while now. when i add new music to the library, Emby scans the entire music library, resulting in a log full of musicbrainz and discogs errors. musicbrainz is constantly outputting bad request errors, a lot for items I had to spoof musicbranz album ids on, and discogs is always erroring for toomanyrequests, and there is nothing I can do about that. it is an API issue. Is there anything that can be done to hasten these scans and cut back on redundant scanning and/or reporting? Or have better identification of music files to prevent merging and this meta errors issues. Spoofing doesn't seem to be the solution, and the non-stop errors is causing more problems than the solution solved. I have close to an hour of non stop errors because I added 10 new LPs? Then there is the peeve where each imported LP doesn't use the embedded or included folder images until after the meta data scans, even when I have the library set to not scan meta providers for album image. 2024-03-07 11:52:22.386 Info HttpClient: GET https://musicbrainz.emby.tv/ws/2/release/10658506?inc=url-rels 2024-03-07 11:52:22.472 Error App: Error in MusicBrainz *** Error Report *** Version: 4.8.3.0 Command line: /system/EmbyServer.dll -programdata /config -ffdetect /bin/ffdetect -ffmpeg /bin/ffmpeg -ffprobe /bin/ffprobe -restartexitcode 3 Operating system: Linux version 6.1.74-Unraid (root@Develop-612) (gcc (GCC) 12.2.0, GNU ld version 2.40-slack151) #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Fri Feb 2 11:06:32 PST 2024 Framework: .NET 6.0.25 OS/Process: x64/x64 Runtime: system/System.Private.CoreLib.dll Processor count: 24 Data path: /config Application path: /system MediaBrowser.Model.Net.HttpException: MediaBrowser.Model.Net.HttpException: BadRequest at Emby.Server.Implementations.HttpClientManager.CoreHttpClientManager.SendAsyncInternal(HttpRequestOptions options, String httpMethod) at Emby.Server.Implementations.HttpClientManager.CoreHttpClientManager.SendAsync(HttpRequestOptions options, String httpMethod) at MusicBrainz.MusicBrainzAlbumProvider.GetMusicBrainzResponse(String url, Boolean forceMusicBrainzProper, CancellationToken cancellationToken) at MusicBrainz.MusicBrainzAlbumProvider.GetMetadata(AlbumInfo searchInfo, CancellationToken cancellationToken) at Emby.Providers.Manager.MetadataService`2.ExecuteRemoteProviders(MetadataResult`1 temp, LibraryOptions libraryOptions, String logName, TIdType id, IRemoteMetadataProvider`2[] providers, MetadataRefreshOptions options, CancellationToken cancellationToken) Source: Emby.Server.Implementations TargetSite: Void MoveNext() 2024-03-07 11:52:22.772 Info HttpClient: GET https://api.discogs.com/releases/249086 2024-03-07 11:52:22.822 Error App: Error in Discogs *** Error Report *** Version: 4.8.3.0 Command line: /system/EmbyServer.dll -programdata /config -ffdetect /bin/ffdetect -ffmpeg /bin/ffmpeg -ffprobe /bin/ffprobe -restartexitcode 3 Operating system: Linux version 6.1.74-Unraid (root@Develop-612) (gcc (GCC) 12.2.0, GNU ld version 2.40-slack151) #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Fri Feb 2 11:06:32 PST 2024 Framework: .NET 6.0.25 OS/Process: x64/x64 Runtime: system/System.Private.CoreLib.dll Processor count: 24 Data path: /config Application path: /system MediaBrowser.Model.Net.HttpException: MediaBrowser.Model.Net.HttpException: TooManyRequests at Emby.Server.Implementations.HttpClientManager.CoreHttpClientManager.SendAsyncInternal(HttpRequestOptions options, String httpMethod) at Emby.Server.Implementations.HttpClientManager.CoreHttpClientManager.SendAsync(HttpRequestOptions options, String httpMethod) at Discogs.Plugin.GetResponse(HttpRequestOptions request, String method) at Discogs.Plugin.GetDeserializedResponse[T](HttpRequestOptions request, String method) at Discogs.DiscogsAlbumProvider.GetMetadataResponse(AlbumInfo id, CancellationToken cancellationToken) at Discogs.DiscogsAlbumProvider.GetMetadata(AlbumInfo id, CancellationToken cancellationToken) at Emby.Providers.Manager.MetadataService`2.ExecuteRemoteProviders(MetadataResult`1 temp, LibraryOptions libraryOptions, String logName, TIdType id, IRemoteMetadataProvider`2[] providers, MetadataRefreshOptions options, CancellationToken cancellationToken) Source: Emby.Server.Implementations TargetSite: Void MoveNext()

  16. hi maybe you could start to give us some info about the versions on your download page?! how can you miss that?? I have a constant sideload here and update there topic on all devices and you are not even writing it on YOUR page. I have to check the versions on some apk sites?! I don't get it of course, the profesional way would be to have it in the filename... thanks!!

  17. There is a label on your little bottle with a date and how many refills you have left. There is also an RX number and a phone to call. It's good practice to read those and call the number before you get to the last pill.

  21. In English... I have a problem with this plugin, I installed it and started to configure it to do a test on a new discord server. I copy pasted the webhooks link of my Channel on the labelDiscordWebhookurl in discord notification on my Emby server, only the test notification does not work. I also installed MBcord on my PC to connect directly to the Nas server but still nothing. Would it be possible to get some help if anyone has managed to get this to work. Thanks in advance !

  23. The installer defaults to a specific install location, where the portable can be placed anywhere. That is really the only difference. As you can copy the system folder from your current install and place it anywhere an launch it to create a new install.

  24. For time time being, when you start the app and are prompted for a pin: you can click the user icon in the top right and select switch users. Hopefully that change will come to other apps soon, but updates to apps distributed by other platforms (Microsoft, Apple, LG, etc) are kinda slow to rollout. Security reviews and all that jazz...

  27. A strange thing happened! I installed the portable version of emby server and it recognizes the series fine! Well that's great! I think I reinstalled the normal emby server to see if that solves the problem. Or just deleting the series library and rebuilding it might be enough. The point is that there is not as big a problem as I thought.

  30. In the app, are you sure you have the library sorted by "Title" and not something else? The "alphabet" only shows up in the margin if you are sorted on "Title".
    1 point
  31. That would make sense. The tv shows library is staying at 92% and populating the covers right now. Do understand though that this situation is different than it was for movies. That too stayed at like 90ish percent with the overall process" hanging" at 27% but it did not populate anything unless I clicked on it. The logs were not showing any activity as they are now. I will try to let this finish and see whether it then continues with either movies or music.

  35. Didn't anyone teach you not to feed the trolls? Why respond to someone who make broad generalizations about something that is, as you say, a feature offered by the community, and follows that up with baseless assertions? As he has repeatedly demonstrated little value to the community (other than spreading some toxicity), I'd just send all of his comments to /dev/null.

  38. It primarily uses complex queries to get all information at once. But the more complex queries get, the less predictable will the execution plan generation get and optimizing becomes hard. Also, certain joins cannot be done economically, or the acquisition of certain data depends on business logic. So, the answer is: both cases exist and when small queries take negligible time with SqLite, there was never a reason to care or worry about those. Another example is image loading: When the client displays a list ot items with images, it retrieves the data from the server first and the client requests images from the server's image service. For each image request, the server queries the database again to where the image paths are stored. Let's assume that the view displays 30 images. In this case, there's not only the db request(s) for the data but possibly also 30 requests for the images. With SqLite, this is nothing to care about, because there is zero latency, but with an external DB, that's whole different story. When you develop for an architecture with an external DB, then you would probably do something like caching of the data from the initial data request, knowing that it's likely that the data will be needed shortly after when the image requests are coming. Countless of such cases exist everywhere which would need to be done differently, and that's what makes this an even more toxic task.

  41. Dear Emby Team, I'm reaching out to voice my support for prioritizing faster channel change speeds in Emby. As an avid user, I believe this improvement is essential for enhancing the user experience. Given the long-standing request for this feature, I urge the team to consider expediting its implementation. Improving channel change speed will not only delight users but also showcase Emby's commitment to customer satisfaction. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

  42. Almost there! Only 3 and a half more years guys But serious now, dont you think its time to get this "Killer" feature now? Mark it as "Experimental" or hide it in a "Expert" section to enable, in case is would confuse ppl (tbh we are all enthusiast here, be real! We know what we are doing/looking for, even IF, thats a big if, ppl get problems with this feature, it would be the minority... ) Its about time to get H.265 as Transcode option, since the new Codec AV1 is already getting supported and with that pretty much any device since 2020 (Wild guess) supports H.265. Something funny here, I saw the question in this thread: "Why do ppl use Emby instead of JllyFin, when they can support feature like that?" Simple Answer: JellyFin got NO Apps on all divices like Emby does, other wise no one would use Emby! <- My opinion.

  43. Currently there're three tabs on the bottom left corner during playback: Info, Chapters and Cast&Crew. Is it possible to add an "Episode" tab, that displays all the episodes info(number and name) in the current season, and let you jump to the episode you want. It should work like the "Chapter" tab, except that it lets you choose episodes intead of chapters Youtube offers this functionality as a side bar, and I use it a lot. Hope that emby can have that too.

  44. I know a user can set their own pin, but i have users ranging in age from teen to 70's. My problem with all of this is its not communicated well at all to the user, even people that use and manage emby are having a hard time with this. having a grandmother use the app is a feat in itself, much less them knowing to set the pin or know what to do when the app doesn't prompt for it if its never set and they don't want it to login automatically. Granted that's not something that i see used that way much for the older ones. Yes i could walk them through it on their own. I do wish there was an option on each user to force a pin to be set and then also the ability to force a pin to always be used. And yes i completely agree and didn't even think about a teen going and finding the pin, that is definitely not good. I work in IT at a large company as a systems admin, and we would never ask for passwords or pins and do not set them for you and none of our systems have a way to see these, only reset them to something temporary. The app should prompt once for each user the first time they login, after that, it shouldn't ask again. HOWEVER, it should be made clear somewhere in the app that the app is not locked or pin protected WITHOUT having to dig for it. BUT, there needs to be a way while logged into the app to turn the feature on or off without having to sign out and back in.
    1 point
  45. Users can set their own pins exactly the same way as passwords. You don't have to do it for them. @Lukethese pins being in plain text in numerous places is ridiculous however. It shouldn't even be available to display to users. Clearly you arent protecting them like a password: ie hashing before storage. TV Clients (such as the xbone) display it in huge unobfuscated digits to the entire room, and every users profile page shows their pin in plain text. Even if a user sets their own pin, any admin can view it on their profile page. User logs in, selects 'yes' to pin auth. Leaves the room mid-movie to go take a shit; anyone can open the menu and see the current users pin while they're gone. Not good when mischievous teens exist. This would be HUGELY annoying to everyone that doesn't want to use a pin. "If I wanted to use one, I'd have set one. Stop asking me constantly."

  48. @Lukewith update 3.365 the issue still exists. I haven't even tried with my Pixel 8 Pro pictures which are even higher quality and als UltraHDR. But I imagine it will be even worse.

  49. I think... in most cases ... if a user post to the fourm with a "delevoper" or "administratior" tag under their name, then that user is part of the team. However, there are quite a few people who have spent alot of time here and have been an integral part of the development of Emby.
