  2. Since the SDH+Commentary flag feature request was closed after the addition of SDH and because I can't find another existing Commentary flag request, here's a request to add Emby support for MKV's commentary flag.

  3. Having spent a couple of decades working in product development and product marketing, it makes a lot of sense to me that Emby doesn't (and won't) publicly discuss its future product roadmap (even just a little bit). I can't think of too many high-tech companies that do? Generally it comes down to: Company (Business priorities can and do change for many various reasons - financial hurdles, technical roadblocks...) Competitors (The golden rule - never ever let the other guys know what you are doing, but learn all you can about them!) Customers (Communicate well - but don't put the company in a compromising position by giving competitors any undue advantage.) Anyway, perhaps Emby could also answer these questions: What is Emby's history and product evolution? (newcomers may like to know) Who do you see as your main competitors and what are your product advantages over theirs? What do you see as future trends regarding (e.g.) industry consolidation, local media vs streaming, local storage vs cloud storage, emerging technical platforms and newer audio/video media formats...

  5. I don't disagree - but maybe make the question more rounded. Why do emby continue to replace core functionality before having the necessary updates in all available clients to receive it ? As one example - Auth - emby knew this was changing since the security incident - in May 2023. They have had (imo) plenty of time (~ 9 months) to get out a limited beta, test and then update all the clients prior to 4.8 being released. Instead, a lot of common clients seem to be left behind, making a lot of them simply unusable - if the idea is to win over more people - this is not the way to do it ...

  6. You’re probably showing more you’re age than anything I don't think this is a matter of age, nor is it in any way modern. IMO, this is just unorganized brain-spamming made for people with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders and the likes. You will never see me posting anything there, because when I do and take the time for answering questions in a (sometimes more, sometimes less) comprehensive way, then I want those to be accessible and searchable for others, not only for some feed junkies ingesting everything that is being written there. That's my personal opinion. Everybody may feel free to like it, but not claim that it would be a matter of age, to which I can only respond that I would rather consider it as a matter of intelligence.

  9. Who owns Emby (in general)? How many people work at Emby and what are their roles (in general)? How many people use Emby? What are the most popular Emby apps and platforms? What are the most popular plug-ins? Why does Emby give less attention to Music than it does to Movies/TV Series? Would Emby consider having an official YouTube channel for announcement updates and tutorials?

  10. Hi Me and my family just went on vacation and wanted to download movies and series to our phones for offline usage. But we experienced that some of the requsted downloads never arrived to the phone. Hence it would ne a good improvement to have better control and overview of the downloads, like: - Where it says "Ready to tranfer", then capability to "force" download, because I experienced several items saying that, and never downloading - Improved overview og status. Like if it's saying "Ready to tranfer", then I would like to see why doesn't it download, what is it waiting for. - Ability to see in a movie or a series, IF I already requested it to download once. Because I would forget IF I set a specific movie to download or not, and it would great it what was illustrated on the movie. - And if I already requested a movie to download once, and I do it again, then that Emby pop up and say I already requested that, if I want to cancel the first request. I for example tried downloading whole season 1 -3 of a show, and then it turned out, it hadn't downloaded ep 1+2 in first season., and where also missing ep 8+9+10 in 2nd season, and I could tell why or force it to download. I hope it makes sence and hope an improvement for the Downloads

  11. Every single discord server I've ever used was a god awful mess that's impossible to find anything useful in. Discord is a group chat platform; trying to track requests, issues, and individual conversations is a nightmare. Particularly for people that dont have the time/energy to read/scroll through mountains of messages every day. Fine for a random group chat with friends; terrible replacement for a forum and large communities.

  12. Assuming (!) that the devs all use Emby for their media handling, it would be interesting to try to see how similar their watching/listening habits are to us users in general. What proportion of devs regularly use subtitles (whether for anime and other foreign language media, or to compensate for poor hearing, maybe of a family member)? What proportion of the devs use Emby as their main provider of music (whether albums or classical music that doesn't easily follow the album format)? How are the devs split between those who watch/listen primarily to the content itself and so are largely content with good enough reproduction, as opposed to those who pixel peek to find the slightest flaws (outside of their explicit development work)? To what extent do the devs actively compare their product with the main competitors? Paul

  14. Why would I want to use Trakt ? - this is no better than plex as it's capturing all your watch data... no thanks. Agree here - I believe 'smart play/watch lists' are on the Horizon (hopefully with an API to make our own) - but this fundamental 'media hub' functionality has been missing for so long, that workarounds are the only solution .. if Luke doesn't like us doing it - then maybe provide an acceptable way to do it ..

  15. No it isn't. There is. The whole principle of security would fall apart when the identity server wouldn't be able to ensure the identity of the SP, which is done by validation of dns name and cert.

  16. Just in case anyone else get this, here is what worked for me. I just had this exact same issue on my FireTV. Licensing error and then uninstall Emby App and then try to reinstall and it said "App not found" - just like above. It turns out that it was the personal DNS server I'm using. I use Pi-Hole on a Raspberry Pi for my DNS which will block ads and any other block list you add to it. I just needed to disable the Pi-Hole filters for 5 minutes and then it found the app and is working now. I imaging that the Licensing error is some Amazon licensing on all apps through their appstore and my filtered DNS was blocking it. I probably didn't need to uninstall first, just disable the filter and launch Emby again. I'll try that if it happens again.

  17. EMBY SERVER 4.8.1 IS NOW LIVE WITH LOTS OF NEW FEATURES AND IMPROVEMENTS Emby Server 4.8 has been rolling out to various platforms over the past week or so. This upgrade in particular is packed with a lot of new features, improvements and fixes. Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing multiple blog posts to share some of the exciting new functionality that 4.8 brings to Emby and give you a more in-depth look into the features. Today’s blog will focus on two new features: PROFILE PINS With Emby 4.8 you now have the ability to set individual profile PINs. This new PIN replaces the old local network only PIN that existed prior to this release. It is more flexible (works both locally and remotely) and more secure. This new PIN is very useful if you have devices in your home that are shared by multiple users. As an example you may want to put a PIN on your profile so kids in your home can’t just click on your profile and view all of the same media but still allow your kids to freely switch between their profiles on the same device. NOTE: All users (local and remote) must authenticate ONCE per device. Once this initial authentication is done, that user will be remembered on that device and won't require password entry again unless signed out. PLAYLIST SHARING CONTROL Another great feature of 4.8 is the ability to designate exactly what other Emby users you share playlists with. Prior to 4.8, any playlist that was created was available to everyone on your Emby server. Now they’re set up for individual users. When you first create a playlist, that playlist is private to just you. If you wish you can then share it with any user that you would like via the "Modify Collaboration" option. You are able to set it up so that different users have read only access or have view and edit access to the playlist. Please keep in mind that this is only for playlists that were created after the upgrade to 4.8. Playlists created prior to this release will not have this functionality. They would have to be re-created to gain it. NOTE: In order to utilize this feature, you must first grant each user that you want to be able to create shared playlists the ability to share content from the user settings on the dashboard. You can see from the image below that it is simply a checkmark on the settings page. Once that is checked, it is as simple as creating a new playlist and then either right clicking on the playlist or clicking on the “...” menu and clicking on manage collaboration. From there you can easily choose which user you want to share the playlist with and what level of access they have. Stay tuned for a new blog post in the coming days that highlights some of the other awesome and new features of Emby 4.8! For now, we have listed below all the improvements and fixes that were included in 4.8. We as a team are excited to share all of these great new additions with you and hope you’re enjoying the update to Emby just as much as we are! ADDITIONS AND IMPROVEMENTS Add new profile pin feature. 19. Providing this for anyone who might like it. I'm not a fan of the round artist posters, so I dug through the CSS to find how to change it. Along the way I found a couple other things. The first rule restores the square artist posters, with a very slight rounding of the corners. /* RESTORE SQUARE ARTIST IMAGES */ .cardContent-round { border-radius: .3em; } This rule stops the posters from being distorted to fit a square (or round) aspect. /* DON'T DISTORT ARTIST IMAGES */ .coveredImage { object-fit: cover !important; } I don't care to see the "Songs" section (above Albums) on an artist detail page. This rule hides it. /* HIDE ARTIST DETAIL "SONGS" SECTION */ .artistSongsSection { display: none; } This rule allows the artist name, album name, movie name, etc., below the tiles to wrap /* ALLOW LONG TITLES TO WRAP IN GRID VIEW */ div.cardText { white-space: pre-wrap; } BEFORE: AFTER:

  20. I actually now mostly like the "not knowing" what is coming and the uncertainty of how things are progressing. Emby fails some/a lot of the time to get fixes out but, so far at least for me, they have never failed to fix serious problems in a timely fashion. I have "to me" there are many "important" fixes/features that Emby has not fixed/implemented but none of those keep me from using Emby to good effect. It seems that Emby is very good at fixing/preventing problems that effect the entire user community but not so good at fixing the little irritant problems that pretty much everyone has. I do NOT trust AI at all and I wish it could be totally avoided but lazy people will use it and abuse it and those of us that do not like it really have no way of avoiding it. To have "artificial intelligence" you must first have actual "intelligence" and there really seems very little of that in the current world.

  25. Why does Emby insist on killing off good things and replacing them with inferior things? They killed off the IntroSkip plugin, implemented a barebones version of it, and have never brought it up to par with even where the plugin was when they ended it, never mind where the plugin was working towards. The ATV app is still the best TV app available, but that's becoming dicey now that it's solely getting life-support updates, but the Android app is still absolute ass on a TV.

  26. Well, given that (as I understand) it can provide all the metadata for a series with a single request, that can hardly be the problem here! Paul

  27. Not to mention it simply violates the basic principal of "never trust the client" (as true in infosec as it is in game development). Some products may have failed this by poor implementation, but never by such a supposed architectural design as having a client be a main-in-the-middle between the app and auth servers.

  31. TVDB and TMDB list that series differently and that is the root issue. For TVDB, it is all original Animaniacs (1993), Seasons 6 and onwards. For TMDB those are two distinct shows. Animaniacs - TheTVDB.com Animaniacs (TV Series 1993-1998) — The Movie Database (TMDB) (themoviedb.org) Animaniacs (TV Series 2020-2023) — The Movie Database (TMDB) (themoviedb.org) As TVDB is your top-preferred meta-provider, it doesn't recognize "Animaniacs (2020)" and it's being identified as "Animania (2020)", TvdbId 375642 Animania - TheTVDB.com. Based on your naming: You have two options on how to approach this one: 1) Rename your series folder as "Animaniacs (1993) [tvdbid=72879]" and episodes as S06Exx and so on respectively, Refresh Metadata 2) Remove series folder out of your TV shows root > Scan media library to clear db > Move TMDB on top of your library preferred meta-fetchers > delete any existing NFOs > Rename series folder to "Animaniacs (2020) [tmdbid=107124] > Move it back > Scan media library > Lock the series once Identified/metadata downloaded > Revert TVDB on top of library meta-providers list

  32. There must be an internal way to do this already - as the likes of favorites, playlists, collections, and more recently, New Releases Row etc, all can reference existing items and present that to the end user without duplicating that item. All we want (3rd party devs) is to be able to do the same - and use this 'pointer to the item' in our own playlists/libraries/channels etc I'm hoping the new smart playlists will bring the framework to do it ..

  36. Yes this would be nice. +1 I currently have added this myself on the MediaInfo Plugin where it uses this flag or scans the existing track title for the word 'commentary' and then adds it to the end of the new track title, plus tags it as well. This allows limited searching (via tag) and gives the user the detail in the drop down it's a commentary track - but useful info, such as who is doing the commentary is lost unfortunately. But would love to see this as a proper db item

  38. I am aware that the genres need pruning of certain words, that just hasnt been done yet. I am also aware that some genres are similar and can be changed to use just the one descriptive word for them all. I have thought about either: 1. adding a listbox to ADM for words not to import, 2. pruning certain words from the database 3. hardcoding into ADM to ignore/replace certain words when importing genres. Like I said I havent done anything yet, option 3 is the easiest to do and most likely for me to do, but I would need to build a list of what to do. Collections are the same, they need attention.

  39. A documented list of breaking changes to the api and a way to subscribe to changes/updates to that document would be much appreciated. I hit this UserDataLastPlayedDate thing in one of my tools. A tool I've been running for four years is suddenly broken and deleting media unsuspectingly post upgrade. Anyways, if there's some way we can be notified of such breaking changes in the future, that would be much appreciated.

  40. Is the Emby dev team going to adopt an Agile framework for development? Will Emby consider moving to a quicker release cadence with a more limited set of development goals for each cycle? In working with software development practices, I have seen how a quarterly release cycle (point release, not major version) would be well received by the community as well as benefit the developers ability to focus on a specific set of enhancements and fixes.

  41. What’s the point of the qa if you not going to discuss future updates lol. Thats all anyone cares about. As usual you guys seem out of touch with the user base. Why are many high ranked features still pending yet you implemented lower ranked ones like the image cache but disable 4k transcode ranked far higher.. if you can’t explain the priorities of the platform that’s the primary issue, the constant yes we can and coming soon doesn’t mean much.

  42. The new List 1) Release Type 2) Disc Subtitle 3) Style 4) Country @Lukeremember part of the request is to start capturing this data now, even if the full implementation is some time in a "future update" 1) Modify emby probe to read above tags 2) Save to emby db as discrete audio medatadata tags. 3) Stop Declare Victory !!! 4) Users can then know if they work on any retagging this data will be available. You always implied that it was easy to add embedded tag metadata or do I have that wrong? Thanks -vicpa

  43. I'm voicing my support again to implement these handlings. Improving search features would go far to improve the useability of emby and enhance the basic user experience. This is particularly the case when dealing with large libraries. I've asked about this previously and my belief in the necessity of these features has only strengthened after another year. Cheers.

  45. Just a short update. As the library scans were taking a very very very long time, I scrapped the libraries, restarted Emby server and (Windows) server PC, and started all over again. The first time around, Emby wasn't seeing the Z:/ drive which maps to the NAS folder with the media on it, so I had manually entered \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\foldername in the Folder field. After the restart/reboot/etc, the Z:/ drive was showing in the Folder field as expected, so I used that to point to the relevant media folders. This time, the scans are operating far more quickly. I'm not sure if that's the cause of the slowness I was seeing, and if so, whether that's a known effect, but I thought it was worth noting.

  47. First I want to start this out with I am a long time Plex user (Plexpass lifetime) now turned Plex refugee, the latest changes they are making is the last straw on the camels back for me. So I have turned to Emby for my media hosting needs. I have been running them side by side (Unraid Docker) for about a week now and only have a few issues and questions before I pull the trigger and buy Emby Premiere Lifetime and drop Plex all together. At first glance Emby seems great, really love the simple and clean UI with just my media and nothing else is huge for me but I did run into a bigger issue that is causing me hesitation to fully switch so I just wanted to ask the community if it was just me or if Emby just doesn't support it. I have tried looking googling, looking through the wiki and the forums for an answer but can't find a solution. #1. Issue: I have the latest Gen Apple TV 4K running the native Emby app and having issue playing content in HDR / DV, now let me be clear the content does play but it is not sending the signal to my TV (LG C2 OLED) to switch to either DV or HDR depending on the content (I have it by default in standard range for just normal use / browsing / TV Shows). I am using the latest version of Emby server (4.8.1.0) on Unraid docker. Now I know this should / can work because it does work with the Plex app with all the same devices and same content files as well as I have tried it with infuse and it works as well. I really like the UI of the native Emby app (the library viewing options which infuse doesn't have) so I would prefer I get it sent up correctly in that app. If it doesn't support it all together then I will have to use the infuse app because almost all my movies are in DV or HDR but I would really prefer to not have to jump between two apps depending on the content I am watching. #2. Smaller questions I have (probably a setting or option I have missed) is it possible to hide the Folder view under movies and tv show library and same goes with episode view in Tv shows libraries I have a latest TV shows list on my home screen and can't find an option to have it at an episode level rather than a show level, so I would see what is the latest tv episode added but do not group them together unless a whole season is added at once. This is how plex's recently added tv show works by default TLDR: switching to Emby from Plex and have issues playing HDR and DV content on Apple TV OS using native Emby app, it does not switch the color range of the TV based on the content playing.

  48. To be fair, if BelAmi Premiere Collection - Kris' Angels was in the database and the title search was Kris' Angels it would return the data for all titles that contain Kris' Angels, ADM has an algorithm to try to return the most accurate if there are several similar names. I cannot guarantee it to be perfect but it's pretty accurate. It then uses the year to push the title with that year to the front of the results. So taboo would return dozens of results, taboo 1979 would result in less matches. However if the opposite was true, Kris' Angels was in the database and the title search was BelAmi Premiere Collection - Kris' Angels then it wouldn't. It probably would return no results. It totally depends on whatever emby has used on detection as the title. But in your collection the studio name or collection name in the title probably causes ADM to return no results for that item. If I add code to return results bases on if any of the title words or 2 or more of the words are found then it could causes lots of mismatched results, so I am not sure I would do that.
