  1. Isn't sross44 the person who was just bought on board with Emby to help with brand and growth though? Nothing wrong with drumming up engagement on social platforms like Reddit. It would be part of their role

  2. To wrap up my piece on this. I’ve been sharing the awesomeness of Emby lately and am going to keep doing that. The idea is to drive engagement and keep people interested as long as I need to. I’m working on a bunch of different things as well and can’t wait to keep moving forward. I myself have been waiting eagerly for the stable release while also checking out the beta!

  3. Agree 100%. They brought me on to start marketing Emby. And one of the first things I did was create a few posts on Reddit to gain some traction and engagement with our users and potential users. We had a lot of engagement and learned even more. I then teased that we had some big news coming. Some people got upset and worried that we would start doing of the things our competition has done with privacy and the such and got upset about the tease. Even if the overall vibe from the posts were overly positive. Today I merely mentioned that the stable is planning on being released soon and that us here at the Emby team can’t wait to share with it everyone. Overall community feedback has been excited for the release. Ive also learned a lot of what people want in Emby to make them switch from the competition to us fully. A lot of good research was taken from these!

  4. What the hell for, no one is call others names (yet) it is a bunch of passionate users loudly discussing and disagreeing on stuff, all sorts of weird stuff with no "correct" side, people started using the analogy argument style and I find it %^&* hilarious to read the grasping at straws trying to compare Emby to a clothes shop, nearly fell of my chair and spat out of morning coffee My 2 cents, the main problem with Emby "BETA" is it is not a beta, it is a nightly build and as such should not be called a beta. A beta is a feature complete build with bugs you want tested and fix bugs in so you can release it. The Emby beta is a nightly build that has NEW features and function and thus new bugs. If the Emby Beta was an actual beta then more people would test it and the release cycle would be much quicker.

  7. Why did you think that doing the same thing 20 times would produce a different result. Perhaps you should stop and try to work out what's wrong, for instance by asking forhelp and answering the questions you are asked. At present it's not clear whether you even want to get it working for you, or whether you're just trolling... Paul

  8. The last 10 or so beta releases have all been about fixes or rolling back features that are causing problems. With each new version, there are fewer reports of problems in the forum.... They have to be close to calling this a wrap. Everyone thats nesting in an older version should make sure their problems are fixed or it may still be an issue in stable.

  10. Think about it from a marketing standpoint. People are already up in arms over the length this has taken. If we aren’t in front of this (and should have been for a while) it doesn’t bode well. We need to be sharing that exciting features are coming etc. Not everyone reads change logs or even thinks to do that. My goal is to get people excited for this release! And hopefully get everyone on our team to see the benefits of an agile methodology to releases. Ha…. I knew my scrum master certification would come in handy someday lol.

  13. I feel like a mod should just close this post down, since the kids aren't playing nice with each other. So many people just constantly posting here wasting time talking nonsense and say you don't have time to beta test, but you apparently have all the time in the world to sit here on this forum post and talk smack to others. If you want 4.8, update your instance to the beta 4.8 then switch back to stable when it releases. If you don't want your main Emby instance on 4.8, then install a second instance of 4.8 and then use that for whatever purpose you want. Test it or use it. If you don't want to do any of the above and are just complaining that 4.8 isn't a part of the stable branch yet, you clearly don't want 4.8 bad enough and are just here to complain. We got an update from Luke on a release, for whatever that's worth, take it or leave it.

  14. Guys, The ebook side of Emby/MediaBrowser has been long stalled or rather stagnated. I would like to offer up a couple of suggestions. Many people use calibre as an ebook/comic book tool for scraping data and general management of their collection already. This program is absolutely astonishing in its ability to pull metadata from post calibre scans, as well as draw in metadata from the file source and/or directory structure. http://vaemendis.net/ubooquity/ Its a self contained .jar server/reader combination. And honestly I am very impressed by it's small footprint and wide range of abilities. The other option is COPS , which was written specifically with calibre in mind. It is open source, so making it work with emby I would think would be fairly easy. https://blog.slucas.fr/projects/calibre-opds-php-server/ Ever since the original release of MediaBrowser's bookshelf I have always wanted something that would allow me to 'read' my collection, rather than being basically nothing more than a place-set for images of books I own. I am sure that those who mainly have audiobooks are thrilled with bookshelf , but it's nothing more than an extension of the music library IMHO, not new features. We can have both right? Here I give you two suggestions free of charge.. Just because I love you, and Emby Personally I plan on running the Ubooquity Server along side of Emby from now on, just because of it's massive functionality and tiny footprint. But I sure hope that someone decides -- "yeah, ebook support should be in here too" and do something about it - rather than allow this now very very ancient issue to continue to remain an issue. And so I don't have to have 20 different ports open, some with SSL support - some not, because Emby isn't delivering the 'complete package'. (Please take some of this with humor, I know you have your hands full with improvements/bugs/suggestions/requests)

  15. Pretty simple suggestion. I have multiple users for my Emby server. If I want to do continuous maintenance on the media, I have to tell everyone. some of them are harder to reach than others ( i.e. no Facebook or Skype chat etc. ) It would be great if say... on the admin panel, I could hit a check box that enables 'maintenance mode', where the server still runs does everything as normal, but instead of the login screen it displays a maintenance page saying the server is unavailable. Even better if I were able to directly put a reason in a text box that would then display on the login screen as well. Not really sure what others would think of this, but for me it would be quite helpful. mostly if I want to make sure no one is trying to access content I know won't work until I've done a full library scan again. Thanks for reading. -Kyle

  16. Now for the embarrassing part - I'm always falling asleep watching something - then have a complete mind blank what i was watching the next day until the next episode is out and i realise im missing something. Would it be possible to add a 'recently watched' section where you can see all items you've recently viewed in order? Probably more applicable to TV I guess,

  17. Feature Request. A present I have several user accounts setup for family members. When we sit down together to watch a movie we currently log into one account (Mostly mine), so obviously only this account gets the watched status. What happens then is everyone uses my account because there's isn't up-to date and it's "just easier". This results in my account telling me I've watched something when I haven't... I would like the ability to log into my account and select/deselect which other users are present so that when a movie/TV episode is watched together, their watched statuses are updated accordingly? The next time you log in again all other users would have been deselected. It could be implemented so each user account can do this, or only select user accounts can. Even a special "Family" user account, or multiple viewers button as long as everyone's watched status is correct. Even just ticking the users present on the login screen before login into an account.

  18. To add - if it's logging on, navigating and browsing ok - it just fails to actually 'play' (over https) - then we know the LG root certificate is 'ok' - all that remains is the reverse proxy configuration. What RP is it ? Using nginx myself, I have no issues with remote playback on LG TV's.
    1 point
  19. FWIW, I still suspect your issue was related to https/reverse proxy issues not being compatible with the LG TV. Did you ever try enabling standard http connections as a test to see if it fixed the problem?

  21. One of the things I’d like to do is get all of us Emby folks together on a zoom or or something and talk. Would love to pick your brains about what you see and hear as well. To your second point…. A lot of the feedback I’m hearing is that it should have been released long before even then. And as difficult as it is with these promises missed…. I’m trying to keep Emby in a very positive light. Working to share what makes us so awesome etc.

  22. Put those episodes into Season 1 folder, i.e. Folder: "Documentaries & Shows" -> Folder "Being Michael Schumacher" -> Folder "Season 1" -> File "Being Michael Schumacher - s01e01 - Gravel Pit - 1080p - x265" S Scan media library.

  24. Really hoping we can get the Emby native video player to recognize portrait mode on our home videos and play them properly in the near future. I’ve been a premiere subscriber for years and have been extremely satisfied with all Emby has to offer. The developers are absolute wizards and very good at listening to the wants and needs of we the users (really great work, team!). My entire extended family is using Emby daily now for so many things, but perhaps the most important is our family photos and videos. This issue of the portrait mode videos displaying sideways is particularly disappointing. Perhaps I can help bump the priority here. Thank you!

  25. I would also like a feature like this. Sometimes Audio is not in sync and I literally have to change the file itself. This is really annoying If I‘m not home where I could change It…

  26. Lmao. Good luck with that. Be sure to include a copy of this thread in that 'suit'. Ooo, and post the response, that I gotta see. Half a dozen nonsensical angry ramblings paired with threats, without asking a single question or actually requesting help; all while at least 7 other people try to get information out of you to provide assistance... Quite the clown factory down in Florida.

  27. So I tend to listen to radio/podcasts on Emby from my phone at night. When I reach over to my phone in a half asleep daze to pause or stop the show, with the current setup I have to be very precise in where my finger mashes into the screen to hit the right button. I'd like to propose a toggle that simplifies and more importantly makes the play/pause and stop buttons on the playback screen much larger. Not that I recommend fiddling with your phone while driving, but this may be a good option for that situation as well. To simplify something like quickly pausing a song. I envision this as a setting that's disabled by default. NEW OLD

  28. HI, it's not a bad idea, it's just that other buttons would have to go in order to make that happen.

  31. That's okay for display but, for playback decisions, we need the core to be in charge of the information it uses for inputs. Yes, that's absolutely true and plugins should generally not be changing any information from the probing we do. In this case (and only in this specific case!) it wouldn't matter, because Emby doesn't behave any different depending on wether it's HDR10 or HDR10+. A problem though, is that a plugin might now know at which time, Emby is re-probing a file (which can happen for many reasons), which means that the value can be overwritten again by Emby at any time, so that's another reason why it's rather not a good idea for a plugin to change this. There's not much value when you can never be sure whether the video format prroperty is accurate.

  34. Most peeps don't report problems, I've learned that over the last 20 plus years of dealing with forums. To have six threads about the same issue is actually a lot.

  35. being frank - all emby need to do is to add HDR10+ as a valid ExtendedVideoType and/or ExtendedVideoSubType (the same as they did for DV Profiles) and any Plugin/API call can just write it as HDR10+ as part of a 3rd party effort. I would add it as an option in the MediaInfo plugin .. I'm unsure if the clients would need updating to 'show' HDR10+, but I would hope that name lookup is got from the database but I'm not 100% because the full DV profile is still not shown even through emby has the full DV profile (in ExtendedVideoSubType).

  36. I stand by the data I have provided for ffprobe interval timing but I don't really care when the detection happens. I can certainly understand library scanning duration is a sensitive subject. I only came here to prove it can be done in ffmpeg with the further goal that down the road the backend can make decisions on how to handle the metadata given that many clients have playback issues depending on the HDR information available.

  37. Or make it a scheduled task/plugin as @TeamBdid for strm files?

  38. I would argue for me it IS an issue of plays or not plays, hence how I ended up in this thread. The new fire stick 4k max will not play combo HDR10+ / DoVI files. Is that an Amazon issue that should be fixed? Yes. Are they going to fix it? Doubtful. Was Plex able to fix this by detecting HDR10+ and altering the meta data on the fly? Yes. I do not have the largest library in the world, but every single file I have tried in my library that I know is HDR10+ mirrors this. I'm probing the first and only the first packet. If you look at the code I linked in the Sevarr project, it seems this is all they are doing as well. That operation seems to complete in under 1s for me on the files I analyzed. On top of that they only do this if certain conditions exist in the metadata (VideoTransferCharacteristics / ColorTransfer) so that is also another short circuit to save time. The Sevarr products have thousands and thousands of users. That seems like quit a large testing pool that has already vetted this strategy. Make it a new, optional, off by default, scanning setting that only applies to new scans and mark it as experimental. That could be a quicker win that would provide usefulness and most importantly user feedback about how well that strategy works.

  39. So until people actually do the update - going from the Release - 4.7.14.0 (24th August 2023) to the latest Beta - 4.8.0.71 (16th Jan 2024) - how do we know what issues will arise ? Going from the previous Beta, to the latest Beta (ie part of normal 'Beta testing') actually prooves very little - as all the 'risky' changes have already taken place but incrementally - ie removal of virtual items, adding permissions for playlists, db restructuring etc etc. These all happended step by step over maybe 20-30 small beta changes, thus risks were low. 4.7 > 4.8 need to be one big change = substantially more Risk (imo) Maybe setting up a 4.7 server and updating to a 4.8 Beta is of greater testing benefit to emby - if it is, then I'd be happy to do that if that is the main concern here ?

  40. Again peeps are not whining and you know it. It's just add x amount of features and release the new version, then start working towards 4.9. Stop adding features that no one asked for at the last minute that now need to be tested to see if they break anything before actually doing the official release.
    1 point
  41. If people are so concerned about the length of time that a new Stable release is made available, why not install the latest beta and help test it and have access to the new features. I have run either dev or beta server for the last 11 years. Yes there is the odd occasion where things break, but that's just part of being in the beta team. If you don't want to use the beta server for your daily use, then at least set up a test environment and install the beta to try and see if there are any issues you can find that others can't. This will make the release more "stable" when available, rather than having to wait for a fix. Stop whinging, and either wait for the release, or get off your backsides and help test the new changes. Thanks.

  43. Their responses to this issue so far indicate they don't see a problem. There have been many versions of the beta that could have been released over the last two years, but they keep going in and adding more features. If the betas were constantly full of bug fixes due to issues that weren't resolving smoothly, people would be more forgiving. But when we're 18 months into the beta cycle and Luke adds a new feature which he admits nobody else asked for but he thought was neat, WTF are we doing?

  44. The hack shouldn't have affected the development of 4.8 at all, because it should have been released months prior. The hack should have affected 4.10 or 4.11.

  46. I only discovered yesterday that my carefully tagged album (using Mp3tag) which had an album being split up unexpectedly had a difference which Mp3Tag wasn't showing me: The tracks had both "Album Artist" and "AlbumArtist" tags, and only one (the first) is shown in the normal editing pane - and once I discovered where it shows the other can only be edited track by track... So I had happily made "Album Artist" the same, but Emby was also seeing that "AlbumArtist" was varying. I don't know what field might be causing you trouble, but I do know that changing to using TagScanner made it much easier to see and fix my problem (I know lots of people swear by Picard, but for some reason I find it completely incomprehensible!). If none of this applies to you, sorry - it's the best I can think of. Paul

  47. Often times when I see "Reason for transcodng: Media bitrate exceeds limit." in the info I wonder, what kind of internet connection do they have? I know this can cover multiple scenarios like bandwidth limit set for user, server, client side quality setting, as well as AUTO bandwidth detection... Can you PLEASE add to the dashboard the returned client bandwidth capabilities? The value you are getting from the client that tells emby its bandwidth abilities. While you are at it tighten up the spaces between lines on the transcode items, and align the results to the right instead of center.. MAYBE SOMETHING LIKE THIS :
