  1. I've worked in IT for over 35 years. Getting it right is far more important than release dates. I've seen really bad releases. One major filesystem/ networking company, No I won't say who I don't want their lawyers after me, released a patch that disabled networking security. If you got the password wrong on login you still got in. It was out an hour before they pulled it and sent a new "critical" update out. Or another manufacturer that sent an update out that expired legitimate licenses after a few weeks. So I'd rather wait for the new release to be "right" and not hassle the developers. They want it right too. Don't get stressed, enjoy life, you only have one.

  2. Would it not be a good idea to have a metadata option for music videos that is actually for music, so that if there's nothing available in a music video db it could be identified from a music db ?

  3. Logging details from the active Emby sessions can help track server load, identify stability issues and let you better manage your server. The following instructions can help set up session logging and display in a Grafana dashboard. https://github.com/faush01/EmbySessionLogging Short Description: The logging script (python) logs the active sessions inclusing transcoding info once every 60 seconds into a SQlite file DB that can then be used as a data source in a Grafana Dashboard.

  6. Absolutely this! I have ~15 close friends and family who access my emby server. They accessed it when it was a Plex server, but I know none of them are still using the Plex client for the content they provide. Plex lost its way back in 2018 when it started making users connect to their services to access local content along with questionable privacy policies. I'm glad I jumped ship back then and have no regrets, although I'd love something like Tautulli on Emby.

  7. We're not in the ideal world of your mind or mine. The fact is that the hack occurred during what was expected to be a late stage of the 4.8 beta, and it was necessary to do the additional work right away, however long that was going to take. To my mind, the crucial thing now is to watch how future developments after this beta are handled, to see if the lessons of this beta have been learnt; but repeatedly going back over the past doesn't help - we already know what needs changing. 8. An updated version of the Emby Open Subtitles plugin is currently rolling out. We have switched from opensubtitles.org to the newer opensubtitles.com This means you will need to create an account on opensubtitles.com and configure that in Emby Server settings. Until you do that, you won't get any subtitle downloads. Stay tuned for more developments on subtitle downloading ! View the full article

  9. I'd suggest not running the Emby client on the TV at all. Get a NVidia Shield and whatever TV's picture you think looks best.

  10. Be able to create playlist based on a certain criteria, like genre and or year, in order to create a dynamic playlist that it refreshes automatically when new content is added. This way you can for example, create a tv comedy playlist from the 90's, or a new sci-fi Movies playlist. Some other criteria for rules could be the rating, watched/unwantched, score, tags, language, audio codec, etc The possibilities could be endless

  12. I recently found a need to look up additional information on a director. I was hoping to look at the director's profile and see not only the movies I had in my collection but also a list of other movies that they have directed. This would be displayed below the library's current movies. ex: My movies: Movie 1, Movie 2 Other movies by this person: Movie 3, Movie4 ================ This could help one expand their library and to discover a missing gem.

  13. Hi, in light of the removed functionality to show missing episodes in the episode list in 4.8, I would like to request a feature that helps to prevent the user from accidentally skipping over missing episodes. Example: I have a series where episode 5 is missing and I just watched episode 4. At the moment, when playing the next episode, emby will silently skip over episode 5 and play episode 6 instead. I would like to be warned and asked to continue (with input required) when that happens. The warning should be shown not only if the next episode is started automatically after the last one but also if I start playing it manually, later. I think this would be very helpful to avoid confusion and it would probably be sufficient to compare the number of the current episode to the last played one and if it is not n_last + 1, ask the user to confirm.

  14. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Apparently it's an issue with AAC 7.1 on the Shield, and down-grading firmware version is the solution. The process doesn't look fun, so I'm just going to hope the issue is resolved in a future update.

  15. EmbyCon is still supported, I maintain it and test it on all new releases of both the Emby Server and also Kodi version. True it has not had any new features for a long time now but it is fully functional and does what it intends to, lets you browse and play your Emby server content. @Teddyknuddel where did you get that info from?

  16. OK scratch that. Ignore what I've said and just go back to what you've been doing. These errors should be gone in the next build.

  17. and you repeat that process everytime the iptv provider updates the channel list (daily)? this is absolutely not the way to do it. @bruoruse iptvboss. its far quicker and easier than this convoluted manual process AND allows for updates to the provider m3u. you can still use the emby epg data if you want to tediously match the channels in emby, but i personally have a subscription for epg elsewhere and have it all handled in iptvboss.

  18. Please keep me updated on what you hear, I have picked up one of LGs magic remotes to use with this monitor, it makes searching/typing so easy, since this monitor is 4K, has webOS built in, wifi and ethernet, USB-C video input and 2 HDMIs... built in speakers, can connect to bluetooth speakers, has airplay... it really feels like the ultimate Emby player... as long as 32" will do it for you.

  19. Note that although Emby can try looking up media using the IMDB id as a key, it does not look up in IMDB itself (too expensive). Looking up of movies uses TMDB (The Movie Database) by default, and TV series are looked up in TVDB. In cases of difficulty it can be worth doing a manual lookup to check what the database actually used thinks the precise name and year is, for instance. Also, coming from Plex, you may also come across instances when the difference in recommended naming and folder structure conventions between the two products causes a problem; check with the Emby naming recommendations here and here. The Emby devs regularly improve the handling of a wider range of possibilities, though, commonly to help with libraries which Plex already handles! Paul

  21. Hence you'll see some discrepancy, especially for the new movies and frequent changes in ratings/frequency of updates; over time, those ratings will stabilize and come closer/identical.

  22. @TZTZoroI have tried all of my magic, and I still cannot get the "Test the Rules" button to display the underlying table correctly. What CSS should I use to make the image occupy only the space that it needs? The latest code is below. I added td img { max-width: 20em; } This had no effect. I assume something is overriding this directive, but it's avoiding my detection. Vic Success - I figured it out !!!!!

  23. Yeah, there aren't many of these cases, items will typically be listed as either a TV show or a movie both on TVDB and TMDB - though some discrepancies do occasionally happen and you have to decide on your preferred scheme. FYI IMDbId is used only as a lookup reference for other provider's databases, meaning nothing is ever scraped from IMDB, it's just looking for an external link to an existing item with the providers, like:

  24. Ok thanks, I already use some tools and custom scripts to cut down the provider M3U. Will have a look at the US providers to get a feel for their channel lineups and compare them to what's left to try to get the best coverage from the least amount of feeds.

  26. After doing a little research it seems MP3 is still the best choice over AAC strictly from a data usage perspective. Sound quality wise there is no difference. The only other alternative I have seen is OPUS, which would beat them both in terms of data usage but I have no experience using it myself as anything I play music on does not support the format. I recently upgraded my phone's data plan (it's a bit pricier in Canada compared to other countries), so I will be able to make use of 320kbps streaming. However, when I was minding my data I would have liked to have the option of 160kbps, but the Emby iOS app went from 192 to 128. And I ended up choosing 128.

  28. Yes, the tag is missing in 9.X cause you assigned same content to different Emby libraries. That's a bug, will be fixed.

  30. Based on you screenshot "Filme.Neue" is nothing else than an emby library correct? Did you sync this library to Kodi and was it successful? Do you have duplicate movies in "Filme.Neue" -> Are they assigned (on emby server) to a second library?

  34. Hiya, sorry for the rant, With the Android TV app for example, if I get a popup to tell me the screen needs a refresh (OLED Joy lol) it will close the app, and I reload it, that's fine, with the standard Android App it moves to a small window in the corner, I then tell it to go full screen and it will on occasion just load a black screen but the audio will continue playing. I generally find the app a little slow compared to the TV app. When launching the app, it loads a grey screen first, and a few seconds later will show the emby splash screen as it loads, other times it will just sit on the grey screen and then close. Just now it went to play the next episode of show and it was just running through app episodes saying "No compatible stream", if I tried to play something else after reloading the app it would just close the app rather than playing, rebooting the tv fixes this, the grey loading block, and the black/blank screen

  35. Using the web app to remote play to Theater works just fine in my testing, so what I would suggest is opening the chrome debugger and then comparing the request that the web app sends to what you're saying. That should lead you to the answer.

  36. Your comment made me realize that I was connected to the 2.4GHz network on my phone, while my TV is on the 5GHz one. I switched and will report back if the issue crops up again. The issue only started appearing a few months ago, before that I never had any stutter, and I always play high-bitrate files. I'm thinking maybe I switched to the 2.4GHz network at some point and that would have caused the stutters.

  37. Well, now thats sorted out - dunno really. I have an LG ns55 in one bay of the main PC and a Pioneer S12UHT in the other. I find the Pioneer is slower but generally more successful. So if a 4K gives errors on the LG, its OK on the Pioneer, not always, but enough to be useful. This info isn't much use considering Pioneers firmware issues, but just thought I'd mention it - faster isn't always better (for me). Might be worth getting one pre-flashed. I flashed one of my drives, easy, no problem, but was still freaking out over ruining a brand new drive.

  41. You can try to change this line to: Recursive = true I didn't see any negative effects, but I did not test it extensively, so be sure to create a backup before you try it. I am wondering if there is still interest by @Cheesegeezerto maintain this plugin? I think for many people (including myself) it offers important functionality and it would be great to have one official version for it, otherwise it will become a real mess to troubleshoot also for the emby team that has to deal with people reporting issues that may or may not be related to the plugin.

  43. If you had an old opensubtitles.org account you will need to convert it to a new opensubtitles.com account. Go to opensubtitles.com and when you click the register link at the top there should be an option to import your old org account. If you already have an account with the new site then just start using the opensubtitles.com account once you update the plugin.

  46. You will want to use IPTVBOSS as suggested. Just a heads up, using your IPTV provider in Emby can be considered restreaming by your reseller and is a very quick way to have your account terminated and have you blacklisted.

    1 point
  49. Yeah, right now for the most consistency across all clients you will probably need to use the number technique but it can be in the Sort Name field instead of the real name so you will never actually see it. Go to the Metadata Manager from the main hamburger menu and select each of your media folders and change their sort name and Save.
