  1. I recently found a need to look up additional information on a director. I was hoping to look at the director's profile and see not only the movies I had in my collection but also a list of other movies that they have directed. This would be displayed below the library's current movies. ex: My movies: Movie 1, Movie 2 Other movies by this person: Movie 3, Movie4 ================ This could help one expand their library and to discover a missing gem.

  3. Providing this for anyone who might like it. I'm not a fan of the round artist posters, so I dug through the CSS to find how to change it. Along the way I found a couple other things. The first rule restores the square artist posters, with a very slight rounding of the corners. /* RESTORE SQUARE ARTIST IMAGES */ .cardContent-round { border-radius: .3em; } This rule stops the posters from being distorted to fit a square (or round) aspect. /* DON'T DISTORT ARTIST IMAGES */ .coveredImage { object-fit: cover !important; } I don't care to see the "Songs" section (above Albums) on an artist detail page. This rule hides it. /* HIDE ARTIST DETAIL "SONGS" SECTION */ .artistSongsSection { display: none; } This rule allows the artist name, album name, movie name, etc., below the tiles to wrap /* ALLOW LONG TITLES TO WRAP IN GRID VIEW */ div.cardText { white-space: pre-wrap; } BEFORE: AFTER:

  4. Again, we have a lake of transparency here. And a lake of communication, that's all. Emby team (whatever their plan on the 4.8) is creating too much confusion and that's why people are waiting news, updates, and that's also why certain persons are upset.

  6. I just want to bring up attention to AV1 as additional target codec for transcoding and comverting video. It's supposed to further reduce bitrates, which can be great in situations with limited bandwidth. Hardware players start to have support, with the Max version of Amazon's 4k FireTV sticks being a very popular and cheap option. Hardware Encoding is coming for sure too. So if/when HEVC gets added for transcoding, AV1 should be kept in mind too. And for conversations, things might actually be already there, since ffmpeg does have a encoder integrated.

  7. @LukeThe new way that you've developed for playing library items from VirtualTV as a live tv source is really great, but it's missing some features: The playback should auto advance to the next program in every available Emby app. There should be a way to start the current program from its live position instead of from the beginning. Ideally, the decision whether the program playback starts from the live position or from the beginning should not be a "static" channel setting in the plugin. Instead also the program itself should behave like a normal library item. That means that the program info dialog that we get from the EPG before playback and also the context menu should display a "Resume" and "Play From Beginning" button. Where "Resume" would start the program/library item from the live position and "Play From Beginning" from the start of course.

  8. Did anyone find a fix for this? I basically have to put the volume to max to hear anything on my lg tv. Playing the same media in a Sony tv plays normally with no issues. I've seen a few threads about this but none have a solution.

  9. I'm playing around with Swift for the first time, and I came up with the idea of programming a small app. Since I haven't seen an app yet that shows you the current streams from your own Emby server, I started coding something along these lines. Here are two screenshots of what it currently looks like. You can give feedback on whether you need it

  11. Son of a- there were two rules that I looked at that said "embyserver.exe" with a red circle and a slash through it, that I turned to ALLOW and that was what got it working. The other rules had said allow so I had assumed I didn't need access to the exe to get remote access. That got it working now. Thank you for being persistent with me.

  12. @HouseOfCardsThank you for responding and sharing your thoughts with me on this. You bring up some great points on both the positives and negatives and I will definitely take them all into consideration as I move forward with putting together a strong marketing strategy for Emby. Feedback like yours is invaluable and I appreciate it.

  14. Hi! I have done that already and it's normal regarding the placement of UI elements with that app. But I cannot use the standard app in my setup because of the known issue (no support for audio remuxing). It's a low-end device where the ATV app works smoothly and plays any type of video and audio formats unless standard app which only plays video with aac or mp3 audio codec.

  15. Sharing the provider name might help in case someone in the forums is familiar with their services. Figure out what your ISP means by "bridge mode". If you have a fiber gateway with integrated ONT then configuration often enables the mode you need to get the public WAN address on your router. Make and model would be helpful. If you have a separate ONT then with some providers it can be as simple as plugging the router WAN port to the ONT jack. But if they have network authentication then you're stuck with their gateway. And last but not least - IPv6 if offered is the best long term solution.

  17. I have lots of movies that I put into collections (Godfather, Back to the Future, etc). But when those movies are put into a larger collection, say, "Dad's movies" they cannot appear inside of that collection as a collection. It would be great if this was a possibility.

  20. There is no way to stop or divide the train on 4.8. The changes that have already been created and implemented are wide-ranging and exciting. What so many of us are asking the Emby developers to do is to stop adding any more new changes and ship 4.8! What is the point at which the actual finished version will be released? Shouldn't any last bugs in the current beta be addressed and then just make it official, and all the other nifty ideas that are planned can then be added in a 4.8.1 or a 4.9 version??

  24. Are you using the right credentials? The accounts themselves are separate even if the sites belong to the same organization. If you were a legacy .org member the migrated account to .com might have a different name. For example, an "_" character was appended to my username when migrated from .org to .com. Disregard if the updated plug-in doesn't connect to a user account.

  26. Yes i meant this to be directed at emby (m.b.home) when emby had been asked to play something... at the moment you can say "alexa next" whilst an emby response is playing...so i assume a current active emby playback helps the emby skill remain 'active' and responsive as the command receiver (not using right terminology im sure). But whether you need to include m.b home token in command or not it would be good to know what emby is currently playing [on the default/current/specifed device].

  32. just clearing up the config file a little. first i forgot to put port number field in there on 4th line. each line has a customization for your situation, followed by a comma. the part after the commas is not used except for a description. so just change the part before the comma. E:\Emby-Server, location of system & programdata folders of your recording server E:\Emby-Server\recordings, where your recordings are stored your api key, api key of your recording server 8096, port number of your recording server the part before the comma don't have any spaces you can place the app and config file where you like im going to work on tring to fix the other http errors as well. for example emby will keep recording but just give looped video threwout. ill try to catch it shortly after it happens then restart emby and hopes that it will clear up the stream. so instead of having a recording that just loops threwout, you might just lose a minute or two of the video. im thinking since they extended the try on keeping the stream alive, might not be the best method cause it might be force bad streams it cant figure out to just record. hopefully im making sense

  33. You've been with Emby for a long time! I love it! I appreciate all the feedback as it's been super informative as I gather information for everything. I used to use Channels DVR in the past and they did not have that implementation of editing commercials then. That's a pretty cool feature!

  34. I keep making forum posts about issues I am having with the latest stable release and get responses that they are fixed in the upcoming 4.8 release, which is why I ended up on this post. I don't quite get why we can't get a minor release of 4.7 to just include some of these fixes, but perhaps it's an issue with how these fixes are implemented in 4.8 that can't be backported to 4.7 due to the database changes everyone is talking about. For example: If you play content in Emby Web and it's being transcoded (with transcode throttling enabled on the server), if you pause the content it will eventually just transcode the whole entire file. If it's a 2hr movie and you pause after 5 min and walk away, over the next few hours it will reset the transcode position and just transcode section by section until the whole file is transcoded. This is "fixed" in 4.8. If you have a multi-episode file (A single file episode that covers a Part 1 and Part 2 episode mapping), currently Emby doesn't show this correctly and Part 2 will always be missing. This too is "fixed" in 4.8 Another issue is often times my Emby server looks dormant. No user activity and no tasks running, but the Emby Server container will be using 30GB+ of RAM. This is a result of the following issue, which is also being listed as "fixed" in 4.8, where it's actually running a detect intro task but not showing me it's happening (the logs will show a lot of ffmpeg processes). Fix Intro Detection scheduled task not being visible Some other QOL stuff which I really want to see that's listed in the 4.8 beta: Change wording of transcoding reasons to be more user friendly Rework Trakt plugin to be an option that each user can configure, rather than server settings Rework Notifications to be an option that each user can configure, rather than server settings Improve searching titles containing quotes and periods The list of things in 4.8 is a bit overwhelming, when it does become stable it's going to feel like a whole new product I think. I wish I could figure out how to run two Emby instances in Unraid without Emby erroring out telling me I always have an instance running, because I feel like I need to test and explore 4.8 and also test upgrade to the beta with my existing DB, so I know what to expect. It's one of the reasons I wish we could get just a new stable 4.7 with some of the fixes above while 4.8 can continue development. I am both excited, and scared of 4.8 stable. 126 fixes and changes are listed and I am sure there are more not listed, that fall under the general term "various database performance improvements" etc.

  37. Actually should be good for an outage of about 6 days. Correct. That is when people usually run into this problem. Trying to start an app they haven't used in a while. We don't track anything about what you play or what is in your library. In fact the check that is done doesn't even know it is due to a playback attempt. If playback is all you require from Premiere, then that should work indefinitely I believe.

  41. @sross44 - I am happy to see some efforts in getting the word out about Emby to help grow the brand. I caught your original thread on Reddit, but figured I would reply here to help get the ball rolling. Apologies for the lengthy responses to your questions, but I feel like it is worth putting this all out in the ether: Initially, it was a colleague of mine who suggested Emby to me. He had realized I was in the midst of consolidating my home media library into digital format and suggested that I run Emby to help with the organization and cataloging of the media. I was well aware of Plex at the time, but Emby flew under the radar for me until my colleague had brought it to my attention. In the past, I had run a strictly local Kodi/XBMC instance. Emby is the first media server I can access remotely. Like: I might be in the minority here, but one thing that absolutely sells me on Emby first and foremost would be its focus on privacy. Plex's stance on this has made me very leery about ever engaging with their product, no matter the features they offer. Heck, it only seems to be getting worse in that respect. While I have nothing to fear, I absolutely have a philosophical problem with a home server instance I paid for data mining me and potentially causing problems further on. Emby has been blunt and unambiguous in the fact that it does not collect any information about you or your home server. I really like the fact that Emby has focused a lot on the 'under the hood' features and bug fixes rather than pumping out useless features. Are some other, flashier features sorely wanted? Of course! But I would never place more importance on them over the core functionality of Emby. If your system cannot read, parse, and deliver your media, what good are the other features? Dislike: To this day, I am still somewhat foggy on device limits on Emby. I have read the help documents many times over and the 25 device limit, and how it is derived, seems no more clear to me than it did when I first purchased Emby premiere years ago. I understand this is not a concurrent license nor is it a simple count of devices on your server's 'Device' page, but I am left to wonder, what is the exact parameters of this? Is it if a devices pings your server once per week? Once per month? When does a device count against one's limit? The feature request system needs a complete overhaul. While I understand a forum is a great way to engender conversation on topics, it has become a patchwork mess of duplicate requests that get merged or left unattended. The path Jellyfin has taken is absolutely the path Emby should also get upon. This is a clear and concise list of feature requests that can be easily moderated and filtered down to specific platforms for the end user. People can still comment on requests, moderators can merge requests, and there is even a 'status' that developers can change a requests to should they decide it is on the roadmap. I would like to see (even a basic version of) a roadmap of development from developers. I am absolutely of the mindset I would rather wait for a product that is fully fleshed out versus quick, buggy releases, but if major revisions are taking north of 1.5 years, I think end users would be much more satiated to know that there is something going on in the background versus the typical 'it will be ready when it's ready'. I have given Jellyfin a try as of late, and while I am a big supporter of their open-source, community driven development, it is just not ready for prime time. Emby has had much further development in both the core server and apps. I very much appreciate their efforts and will keep an eye on their progress over the years, but currently, their software leaves much to be desired. I run Emby on my Synology 920+ NAS, using the 7.2.1-69057 Update 3 firmware. I am planning to move Emby over to a NUC that will run Ubuntu Server 22 LTS. My clients are typically a wide array of Amazon Fire TV devices (E.g. Cube gen 3, 4k Max 2nd gen, etc.), coupled with Android phones (primarily the Google Pixel lineup) and various Android tablets. Please keep up this community outreach. I admire how hands on developers are around here, but having a proxy (such as yourself) gathering and synthesizing comments would be a huge benefit not only to them for time savings, but to the community, as it would give us a sense that our voices are being heard. Thanks and all the best to your and the team moving forward.

  46. Lets get off the semantics talk. When Emby is serving media to client requests, there should be a cache option. whether its caching to memory in some fashion or caching to an SSD. It would improve the bottleneck we all most likely have which are the spinning disks.
