I'm a plex life time member, but I have been using Emby for over six years continuously, but there is a feature which I have always thought is missing in Emby which I would like and encourage the developer to consider including especially in this dispensation where families can social or commingle due to COVID 19. Today, I received a notification from Plex about it new feature titled Watch together you can read about it here https://support.plex.tv/articles/watch-together/ The feature allows friends and families at distance to watch same movies together instantly, you simply invite all your buddy, once they signed to the system which can be seeing in the server then play and pause as needed, this I think is cool feature should be added to emby. Let's here your though if Emby developer should consider adding this feature to our beloved Emby Media https://www.bing.com/news/search?q=Plex+Watch+Together&qpvt=plex+watch+together&FORM=EWRE3 points

@TZTZoroand @kjhedgesIn a few minutes I will add a new plugin that should help isolate the problem. I will post it here, rather than the first page. Vic2 points

Hi, I would like to have an option to choose H265 instead of H264 in the Transcode option. It will be smaller for all bad bandwidth (2~5Mbit ADSL), but will have a great quality. Mobile phone can benefit of it greatly too with the 4G and the limitation of download.1 point

I would like to see a plug-in developed which allows for transcoding to be offset. My thoughts are for a transcoding server (high powered pc), running cut-down/transcoding only version of Emby. Then on my main Emby server a plug-in which offsets transcoding to the high powered pc (if available) Originally I had thought of this as being a high availability server https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/41443-emby-server-high-availability But thinking about this more, my requirement isn't for high availability but simply to offset the transcoding elsewhere.1 point

As I mention in a related post, I love the additional subfolders for Movie Extras (eg, Shorts, Scenes, Interviews, etc.)! It would be awesome to extend this functionality to TV Series as well. Specifically to add support for many/all of the same folders supported for Movie Extras, eg, extras specials shorts scenes featurettes behind the scenes deleted scenes interviews trailers As well as any additional folders that get added in the future (eg, hopefully Galleries). Support Placement of "Extras" Folders Within Each Season Folder, Plus A Naming Scheme to Link A Particular Extras Folder with a Specific Episode (eg, "\Season 1\E1 - Deleted Scenes\" for episode 1 deleted scenes): I want to clarify that it would be great if these various "extras" folder types could reside within each Season folder. So for example, within a Season 1 folder we could then have an "Extras" folder, a "Deleted Scenes" folder, a "Featurettes" folder, etc. And furthermore, that we could designate a particular folder to refer to a specific episode (eg, "\Season 1\E1 - Deleted Scenes\" for episode 1 deleted scenes). See more below, particularly why I think this would be so useful: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/55915-emby-server-theater-additional-extrasspecial-folder-types-for-tv-series-similar-to-movies/&do=findComment&comment=587195 Thanks for your consideration! PS - If this is something you might like to see implemented, be sure to "Like" this top/first post (as well as any subsequent posts in this thread that highlight particular aspects of what you are interested in) -- "Liking" the top/first post helps the Devs to know how much interest there is in a given Feature Request.1 point

Hi all! I'm extremely excited to announce that I just started working with the awesome folks here at Emby to help grow the brand and Emby name. Before anything else, thank you to @ebrand @Lukefor letting me join the team and trusting me to promote Emby as the best media server available to people. As I start this journey, I'm asking for everyone's help with answering a few questions that will identify some things that will help start this process. What brought you to Emby? Did you leave Plex or Jellyfin or was Emby your first media server? What about Emby do you like or dislike? Have you tried the alternatives out there and if so what is your feedback compared to Emby? What OS are you running your server on? What clients do you use on a daily basis? Any other general comments about Emby and your experience are always welcomed. Thank you for taking the time to help me with this. It is feedback from the users of Emby that will jumpstart this growth for us. I appreciate all of you and if you have any questions or suggestions about how we can best market, please feel free to reach out to me right away.1 point

Request that Emby server store Dolby Vision (including profile), Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, HDR10+ (smpte2094) and HLG for appropriate video in the db and use it for display in the media info and track selection sections of movie/episode details screen. This information once in the db can then also be used in numerous other areas like: Mediainfo Cover Art, Stats for Nerds, Distinguishing different DV profiles for hardware support and tone mapping Example Mediainfo app display of HDR10+ ffmpeg patch for HDR10+ https://patchwork.ffmpeg.org/patch/11491/ Related requested that may require DV profile information in order to prevent unneeded TM1 point

It would be useful if the server (or perhaps clients) could cache most (if not all) content images (posters, backdrops, logos, etc) for movies, TV series and seasons. This would mainly be of benefit when a portion of someone's content is offline but the users would still like to view the content to know what exists. I think caching on the server would be preferable, then all clients could make use of the same cached images. if you think this would be a useful feature, please click the "Like This" button on this post.1 point

Under the Playback Reporting plugins settings tab set up an activity playlist action: Then run the Schedule Task. It should now create a new Playlist with the name you used and the types of items you requested. This feature will use recent playback activity to build a sorted playlist so you can see and easily play back what users on the server are watching have watched.1 point

@sross44 - I am happy to see some efforts in getting the word out about Emby to help grow the brand. I caught your original thread on Reddit, but figured I would reply here to help get the ball rolling. Apologies for the lengthy responses to your questions, but I feel like it is worth putting this all out in the ether: Initially, it was a colleague of mine who suggested Emby to me. He had realized I was in the midst of consolidating my home media library into digital format and suggested that I run Emby to help with the organization and cataloging of the media. I was well aware of Plex at the time, but Emby flew under the radar for me until my colleague had brought it to my attention. In the past, I had run a strictly local Kodi/XBMC instance. Emby is the first media server I can access remotely. Like: I might be in the minority here, but one thing that absolutely sells me on Emby first and foremost would be its focus on privacy. Plex's stance on this has made me very leery about ever engaging with their product, no matter the features they offer. Heck, it only seems to be getting worse in that respect. While I have nothing to fear, I absolutely have a philosophical problem with a home server instance I paid for data mining me and potentially causing problems further on. Emby has been blunt and unambiguous in the fact that it does not collect any information about you or your home server. I really like the fact that Emby has focused a lot on the 'under the hood' features and bug fixes rather than pumping out useless features. Are some other, flashier features sorely wanted? Of course! But I would never place more importance on them over the core functionality of Emby. If your system cannot read, parse, and deliver your media, what good are the other features? Dislike: To this day, I am still somewhat foggy on device limits on Emby. I have read the help documents many times over and the 25 device limit, and how it is derived, seems no more clear to me than it did when I first purchased Emby premiere years ago. I understand this is not a concurrent license nor is it a simple count of devices on your server's 'Device' page, but I am left to wonder, what is the exact parameters of this? Is it if a devices pings your server once per week? Once per month? When does a device count against one's limit? The feature request system needs a complete overhaul. While I understand a forum is a great way to engender conversation on topics, it has become a patchwork mess of duplicate requests that get merged or left unattended. The path Jellyfin has taken is absolutely the path Emby should also get upon. This is a clear and concise list of feature requests that can be easily moderated and filtered down to specific platforms for the end user. People can still comment on requests, moderators can merge requests, and there is even a 'status' that developers can change a requests to should they decide it is on the roadmap. I would like to see (even a basic version of) a roadmap of development from developers. I am absolutely of the mindset I would rather wait for a product that is fully fleshed out versus quick, buggy releases, but if major revisions are taking north of 1.5 years, I think end users would be much more satiated to know that there is something going on in the background versus the typical 'it will be ready when it's ready'. I have given Jellyfin a try as of late, and while I am a big supporter of their open-source, community driven development, it is just not ready for prime time. Emby has had much further development in both the core server and apps. I very much appreciate their efforts and will keep an eye on their progress over the years, but currently, their software leaves much to be desired. I run Emby on my Synology 920+ NAS, using the 7.2.1-69057 Update 3 firmware. I am planning to move Emby over to a NUC that will run Ubuntu Server 22 LTS. My clients are typically a wide array of Amazon Fire TV devices (E.g. Cube gen 3, 4k Max 2nd gen, etc.), coupled with Android phones (primarily the Google Pixel lineup) and various Android tablets. Please keep up this community outreach. I admire how hands on developers are around here, but having a proxy (such as yourself) gathering and synthesizing comments would be a huge benefit not only to them for time savings, but to the community, as it would give us a sense that our voices are being heard. Thanks and all the best to your and the team moving forward.1 point

That's the part I'm missing. The only way that would help you is if the items you think don't rate properly happen to all be in a specific library. I don't really see that as all that common... For a 2 year old, I would either use a strategy of restricting everything except a certain tag or use the file system folder-based access control (which could have the added benefit of keeping a bunch of baby Einstein videos out of your home screen). We already have so many ways to control content visibility that I hesitate to make it even more complex.1 point

This is my latest custom released version - 1.0.1.34 - not sure if this version has the 'specials' from the filename or not. I do actually have a few updates since then but have not publically released as it's not fully tested. Happy to PM though. As with all 3rd party plugins - use and test at your own risk.1 point

no not really. you might be able to create a custom node for series sorted by last played but i am not sure this will work. i think your only option would be use the menu to select season or series for the next up episode.1 point

Just FYI. I've tried to duplicate this numerous times and as of yet can't seem to get anything like in the picture above. Mine is a 2018 in case you narrow it down to certain years. On a side note, I just got a firmware update from Samsung. So, they seem to be supporting older TVs somewhat still.1 point

awesome !! in-fact i digg little bit in this a bit. netlfix is in habit of crating this chaos... they are taking non english series and randomly changing order, i guess going forward this is going to be a big issue. Lupin (https://thetvdb.com/series/lupin#seasons) is also such example.1 point

Yeah, but fortunately restoring the previous days backup was good enough and restored them all. But that is bad the way it works, what a pain (otherwise) to try and recreate a years worth of timers.1 point

I have only configured the M3U URL in Emby. As noted above, this URL contains channels, as well as, TV Show Video on Demand (Series) and Movie content. My goal is to get all the VOD content out of the "Live TV" section and have it show as if it is local content by creating STRM files. I have seen various tools posted to do this, one being the Docker container above; however, the container is not producing the STRM files. This is not an Emby bug or problem, I am just hoping some of the others that have made this work can help me out.1 point

Sweet, thanks Luke. Silver lining is that it's a false positive. Will see if it happens after the new update.1 point

Yeah I hear ya, my kids are spread out across the east coast as well and would love this. I'm setting up a Jellyfin server for them now to use for that.1 point

Yes they are one feature of many included with Premiere. Our source for high quality trailers was removed last year and we are doing our best to find the best way to replace it. However, it isn't the highest priority thing we are working right now. We apologize for the disruption.1 point

Okay, so, I have the scoop on my situation. So, @ebrwas right, hls-proxy was preventing Emby/JF from getting in, however, it was doing so because it was set to. So, basically I'm a victim-of-my-own-creation, somehow I unchecked some things, I have no idea how, why, or if I was even awake when doing so. lol There are two ways this can be fixed: The first, create a user(under clients) and assign a password, then create a playlist with a token, this can be done for single connections. The second, and my favorite, for multiple connections one needs to make sure isAllowUsersWithAnyToken & isRestreamer is checked off, that way Emby or JF can have at it without incidence simultaneously. I would also like to thank @Lukefor getting me out of my 4.8 beta situation(my creation as well). I guess this can be a cautionary tale, but, personally I think someone may run into this in the future, and if they do, this may help; if not, the guys over at hls-proxy were super helpful and nice too via Telegram. They (like the emby devs) are proud of their work and like seeing people enjoying their creation, so, I'm sure they'd be happy to help going forward. Have a great day.1 point

@@Vidman we aren't a large multi-national company with thousands of employees to monitor and maintain our media with enterprise level datacentres. we are singular people whom require a simple method of taking all content 'offline' while and when we work on our inferior systems. I have to say, your line of questioning seems mildly aggressive for little to no apparent reason... If I need an entire week to complete my maintenance, I expect my users to understand this or they can bugger off. After all, they're benefiting entirely for my hobby, right? Sure, Netflix aren't likely to do this - but quite frankly, that's an unfair comparison by all accounts.1 point
