  1. In connection with this - https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/79229-43022-screensaver-options/ It would be nice if the Photo library screensaver can be restricted to only use a certain folder, so that you can just, say, show images of your trip to Kazakhstan, without them being intermingled with images of your broken motorcycle sprocket / widget.

  2. Also, It would be cool if we have various m3u lists and have the option to choose/assign each m3u list for each user.. Example. In user settings we can choose which library to give them for VOD so this shouldnt be hard enough to do it for live tv too no? USER 1 - Playlist 1 - Playlist 2 - Playlist 3 USER 2 - Playlist 3 USER 3 - Playlist 1 - Playlist 3 Etc etc.... *** Delete this message from another topic I opened because I posted it by accident there

  3. I think that backdrop screensaver is a great feature but needs some improvements mainly more config options, some of this were posted already in a feature request to have an AndroidTV independent screensaver app, but i think that this could be great additions to the core Backdrop Screensaver as well, so i hope this takes a little bit of more attention that the AndroidTV one, options like: Option to ignore libraries so its possible for example to ignore music (artist) backdrops or Series backdrops. Rating filter independent of user rating limit so i can left my user screensaver running without worrying about some backdrops showing. Move the text with the tittle of the movie/show to different corners every 2-3 backdrops (to avoid burn in). Chose the color of the font with the tittle of the movie/show or take the same config as the Subtitles settings of the user. Option to show clock. More transition effects. A way to set the idle time before the screen saver shows. Those are the ones that comes to my head at this moment.

  7. I can give this a shot for a test series and if that works i get to keep the Quality flag and will rename my entire library again (and have emby rescan it all (for intro skips)) TY all for your help on this one @ebrIn TV Naming section would be nice if they gave compatible name configs for sonarr/radarr

  10. Little late checking back in, I didn't get to watch much yesterday. I ended up moving my sub-woofer to the opposite side of the room. My sub-woofer is a wireless model that has 2 wired surround speakers. That moves it as far as possible away from my router. There really shouldn't have been any interference, but I figured I might as well cover all my bases.I successfully played three 4K movies without a single stutter. Well, that's not true. There were those damned embedded bitmap subtitles that would bring the movie to a standstill and just not play. In summary, my issue most likely was caused by Netgear's gawd awful firmware and not the LG app.

So dann mal schöne Weihnachten. Und wenn ich mir was beim Christkind wünschen darf, dann wäre ein Alexa Skill für emby ganz nett....

  12. Unfortunately our guide data provider, Gracenote, has updated many of their lineups, and they did it in such a way that they deleted the existing ones and created new ones in their place. That's why you need to reconfigure it. It's not affecting everyone, but it is affecting a decent number of people. We have complained to them pretty hard about this so hopefully it doesn't happen again. Thanks.

  13. Finally got 2019 updated. It's a shame it took Samsung this long to get that update out. They really don't seem to like supporting any models that are older than three years old, which is a little harsh. 2018 is now cut off from updates, and for 2019 they take months to review and publish. Unfortunately this has been a pattern for at least the last few years, and it wouldn't surprise me if by next fall 2019 gets cut off and 2020 becomes the new "old model". We have already complained to them about this and I think only user feedback is going to get them to change their policy on this.

  14. Hi, please try going into guide data setup for your Emby Guide Data and click save on it. You may need to reselect the lineup if the one you previously had is no longer available. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.

  19. 4.1.0 changed the way TV shows are navigated, with seasons appearing as a ribbon at the top and individual episode navigating going horizontal rather than vertical. It much less intuitive to navigate now. I haven't tried the movies section yet so I can't comment on it. Is there a way to get the old UI back? Emby version 4.7.13.0 running on Ubuntu

  20. Hi folks, I've been using emby on FreeBSD for a couple of months now. Of course I'm running it in a jail. I've always had the problem that emby could not make any https connections. Weirdly enough, emby did run despite the errors. But as you can imagine, a lot of features like 'automatic metadata download' or 'plug-ins' did not work at all. Since I've already paid for a 'Premiere Subscription', I've contacted emby support. Although the support had great reply times and was very friendly, they could not help me. But I found the solution myself: Despite mlock.allow mentioned on Emby's FreeBSD Download page, Emby requires a VNET Jail with its own network stack! It seems that a lot of people in the FreeBSD section of this forum, use FreeBSD derivatives like TrueNAS and whatnot. I assume those appliances unnecessarily create VNET jails by default. In case anyone runs plain FreeBSD and encounters the same problem that I encountered, I've typed up a little how to on the setup. It can be found here on github.com I've also attached it as a PDF to this post. And of course, I'm open for suggestions and corrections. Emby VNET Jail Setup.pdf

  21. I've spent some of my spare time experimenting with machine learning, and applying what I've learned to some code for Emby. Using the massive dataset supplied by MovieLens (https://movielens.org/), I was able to create a machine learning plugin that loads a large set of data into a matrix factorization neural network, and can spit out recommendations for users in emby. Following this article by Microsoft: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/machine-learning/tutorials/movie-recommendation and experimenting with their ML.Net libraries things started to get pretty interesting. The project itself is rather large, and I thought I'd share what I've come up with so far, maybe other people are interesting in how the neural network recommendation service is working when testing it against movies inside an Emby library. It's pretty cool. The idea could be to create an in-depth recommendation system for emby, or possibly utilize this as a way to create a new "Top Picks" style plugin that is user based. Which also might be really cool. I'll try and answer some questions up front if I can: What is Matrix Factorization, and How does it work in Machine Learning? In a nut shell, if you have similar tastes in movies as other people in the dataset, and they have rated a movie you haven't seen in a while, or have never seen, then that movie is recommended to you as a possible item to watch. The Neural Network will predict what you, or your users may rate the movie if it was watched. Is this plugin run locally on my machine? Yes, this plugin creates a matrix factorization neural network locally on your machine, which is trained in a scheduled task. Is any of my personal data shared during the training process of the neural network? No, your personal data is completely safe. no user data is shared with any data provider, and stays safely on your server. How does the neural network recommend items? The MovieLens dataset is an accumulation of almost 25 million data point on 27 thousand movies with almost 100 thousand users ratings. The ratings data is altered on your server to include your user data and then the neural network is trained on all the data points, allowing it to predict what movies in your library you and your users may want to watch. Once the "recommender" is trained it then saves a model and uses that to predict recommendations for users. The NN can be retrained when new users are added to your emby server, including them in the recommendation process. Asking your users to "like" or "Favorite" items in the library will certainly help factoring recommendations, however it is not entirely necessary. Does the Matrix Factorization Only look at "Liked/Favorite" Data? No, other columns are also feed into the neural network, like item genre. If one of your users do not "heart" the media on their account, their watched status and item play-states are factored into the recommendation predictions. If they watch more items that fit into a certain category, this is scanned in and calculated. It is best to have several movies marked as "liked/favorite" in the library form each user to get best results. Is it cross platform Yes, I believe it is. ML.Net is a cross-platform library using .netstandard 2.0. With regards to the runtimes associated with the plugin the following are available, and would be included in a dll: Linux64 Linux ARM Linux ARM64 OSX64 OSX ARM64 Win86 Win64 It is all fairly preliminary, definitely keep this in mind On the settings page it is possible to train the NN Model (top), and also run recommendation predictions (bottom). Once the network has created it's model, it is possible to run this model again and again against the library (due to it's 27 000 movie titles included). Selecting the "Recommendation Predictions" begins the second task of calculating what each user might like. Browsing back to the "Recommendations" tab, outlines each users predictions. It shows what the NN predicts your score would be out of 5. The results are definitely interesting. Sure, these are all new movies I should watch, and they are pretty much some of the most famous of the year so far. So the results seem to be pretty close to what I would expect. The training of the model also only use 20 iterations, to be honest I don't know if that is enough, or too much. It's all new. What I can say is that loading the ML.Net Assemblies work, and loading the MovieLens dataset into the NN also works. I have added toggles and inputs to try and test different training scenarios, but it's all kind of unexplored.

  22. Hi all, I spent some time with fighting against .NET and Windows (I am a Java guy :) and created a prototype of Emby plugin for EPUB books. It provides really just a basic functionality - the advantage of EPUB is that it typically contains all the metadata (title, author, cover, description, year, etc.) so no need to connect remotely anywhere (yes, this part could be possibly improved, but very likely not by me :). So, what it does exactly: it updates Emby metadata on library item addition it does the same also when one likes/unlikes the given book (to be able to manually trigger metadata refresh; this could be possibly removed, I have used this a lot during my testing) instead of collections, it adds tags to the books (see the last image); this is to avoid mixing movie collections with the book ones, I did not like that, it seems to me that collections are more movie friendly... this also requires proper naming of the EPUB files - personally, I am using form of "<series><index>.<title>.epub" - this way, all the files are always properly sorted, even in my ordinary file manager (I use file name sorting also in my e-book reader, too). So, the same sorting is applied also in Emby. (That is all, so no reading or so; I have an e-book reader so I use it, of course.) However, there are some possibly problematic parts, like - I am using an EPUB library, which is free to use, but I was not able to "bundle" it correctly into my plugin (so I simply copied its sources into my project - ugly, but works, but I may be violating its license, I don't know; any hints how to do it properly are welcome, thanks). Also, the code is very ugly (using VS and Windows is more a fight for me, as I wrote :) so it is not published anywhere. BTW, it should not be difficult to add support for e.g. MOBI books there (I guess they are similar to EPUBs, no? I mean, they could contain all the book metadata too, no?), although it would mean some more code cleanup and refactoring, but nothing complicated I believe. Would anyone be interested in this plugin? If so, I could try to prepare a public GitHub repo, but it would take me some time to prepare it (the reasons are explained above). This is how it looks like on my Emby instance:

  25. Thanks, I'll have to give this a try. I already manually created the new Jail and installed the server. I allowed it to sync and just about done going through everything to make it match my primary Emby server. I may create a jail and install Emby just to test this.

  27. I just tried adding a book to the 'Book' library type. It was quite disappointing, to say the least. Can we please get this implemented sooner rather than later? The only feature apparently implemented is 'download'. No coverart, descriptions, identify, metadata, or ability to read the book. I haven't tried it yet, but from the thread above, it seems like I can't even use local *.nfo files to specify metadata. For a data source, the Internet Archive's Open Library has 20 million records, an open API, client software, and very reasonable throttle limits (no more than 100 covers in five minutes). It is quite a robust API offering. API Docs I understand adding readers to the multitude of emby clients may be quite the task, but getting the library management and metadata stuff on the server shouldn't be too bad. Same with getting a reader into the Emby Theater clients. Thanks.

  28. Is there (or can there be) a way to change the "captions" that are displayed when the Photo Slideshow Screensaver runs? Currently, the caption displays the file name of the image; "DSC03265" means nothing to me. I would like to be able to display the date the image was made. Even better, geotag information, but the date the image was made would be immensely more helpful than the file name.

  29. In connection with this - https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/79229-43022-screensaver-options/ Would be nice to have an option with the Backdrop screensaver to restrict the choice, if possible, to the backgrounds available for the movie (or TV Series) that the screensaver is being applied to. This might also help stop screensavers for, say, Bloodbath in Basingstoke being shown when Bambi has been paused (unless parental control would stop that ?)
