Sorry to be talking again and again about it but I have a suggestion about implementation. Since YouTube and many other OTT streaming apps have the functionality of "tap and hold to increase playback speed (with 2x)", I would suggest Emby Team to work on it and also make a user option to control the behavior (to set desired playback speed like 1.5x or 2x). Hope you will consider my suggestion and request and implement it on the app. Thanks .2 points

OK you may want to try the 4.8 beta server as notifications have been completely revamped there. Thanks.1 point

I have been recording TV shows and films Over the Air since 2010. My library if over 10,000 files. I have been using emby-server with the raspberry pi 4b since 2019. I have two of those server been use as personal video recorder with HDHomerun Extend tuners. I used the HDHomerun Extend to transcode the stream to H264, since transcoding could not be properly done real time on the raspberry pi. The servers are responsive, able to watch a show while it is been recorded and fast forward commercial. It can steam multiple files at the same time if no transcoding is required. Postprocessing is done remuxing the ts file to mp4 and running comskip for commercial detection. I use 2tb USB3 HDD. The servers are in different city in North America so the use a wireguard mesh network between the servers to have access to each other library and HDHomerun tuners. I got a raspberry pi 5 2 weeks ago. Quickly installed emby server on it. The server can software transcode 2 HD streams at the same time, this is a major improvement. I still use 2tb USB3 HDD with it, but a M.2 Hat is coming and it will be able to use a NVMe SSD. I was able to record 4 HD show at the same time with a HDHomerun quatro while watching one of them. The pi 5 make for a very low cost and efficient embyserver for personnal use. I will be upgrading the raspberry pi 4 servers to the raspberry pi 5. Hope this help.1 point

Yeah, man! I am just waiting for the stable release. I am checking whether the new version has been released or not in my Emby dashboard and GitHub release page of Emby. I am disappointed to see even the beta version is not released. But still, I am hoping for a stable release to be available soon.1 point

Thank you. I'm not sure what has changed since the last updated log and yesterday, but the media hasn't stuttered and is now playing smoothly. Odd.1 point

I'm not familiar with front view, but I could see if it is an open source plugin, I could look into that.1 point

This is typically the way things are organised in the old-fashioned record/CD shop. You would (or still) walk into the store, make a bee-line to your favourite genre and then browse the Album Artists (in alphabetical order) to find the album you want. Your physical collection at home would likely mirror this. I expect many Emby users would have large digital album collections grouped by either Album Artist, Artist or Composer within Genres. Therefore the request makes sense. At least now under Genres you can sort by Album Artist, Artist or Composer, but I agree some Genres may contain 100s of albums making this not ideal. When music libraries grow to 1000s of albums, it makes even more sense to have this intermediate level (Album Artist , Artist or Composer depending upon user preference). I would guess that most Spotify users are much more individual Song Artist oriented, rather than Album Artist oriented, so following Spotify conventions may annoy typical Emby music users??? I organise my physical media by Album Artist and then Album in ascending chronological order. When looking for new music (online or in-store), I search by Genre and then Artist. When wanting to play a specific song from Emby (as opposed to browsing) it is mostly quicker to do a direct search for it!1 point

This is a good topic of discussion for music lovers... From researching various music management systems (Emby, Roon, Plex, etc) and music databases (musicbrainz, allmusic, rateyourmusic, etc) it is very common for music to be categorised as: Genre (major generic music type) e.g. Rock Sub-Genre / Style (underlying detailed music type) e.g. Texas Blues Rock Mood / Descriptor (how the music makes you feel) e.g. upbeat Yes, I think Genre and Sub-Genre / Style do need to be grouped together with one above the other, as in many use-cases it is a hierarchical tree-like relationship between the two, giving a two-level genre mapping structure (though it can be very individually subjective). I expect some people even use more than two levels of categorisation/mapping? I like the term "Sub-Genre" better, but wouldn't be bothered if "Styles" was adopted and implemented. The Mood / Descriptor term is perhaps one that could be left as Tags because it doesn't neatly fit within a genre/style structure and is much more subjective? At the moment I just use mp3tag to embed genre tags into albums (and hence the underlying tracks) as: Genre; Sub-Genre in the Genre field so they appear together in the current Emby scheme of things.1 point

At least an early somewhat buggy release would be interesting as opposed to the boring status we usually get with this properly operating system. Proper functionality is just so "non-interesting." "May you live in interesting times."1 point

"A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game Is forever bad” Shigeru Miyamoto It will be ready, when it's ready. Or would the community prefer a buggy POS that deletes all your files or makes your system explode, or worse? I can't believe the amount of people whining about it taking so long.1 point

Since this now includes more comedy than real information. (Not a bad thing from time to time, I think) I now feel a bit free to include a joke. Many years ago I was visiting Chicago and a local Priest told me he heard about a man the had been a "Boiler stoker" his entire life and absolutely loved his job, the heat and the hard work and all else about the job was a high level perk for him. One day he died and since he was not a good man at all he was sent to hell. He was "assigned" to stoke the fires of Hell and he actually enjoyed it. One day Satan noticed that guy just whistling and generally enjoying himself through all the hellfire. Satan said that he could NOT allow that in Hell so he ordered the fires of Hell extinguished. A few days later Satan was again strolling through Hell when he noticed the ex-stoker just standing around and slivering and generally looking miserable. So Satan says, "Well, how do you like it now!" The man replied through chattering teeth, "Well I don't like it much: but, does this mean the Cubs finally won the World Series?" If any mod feels this goes too far then delete it but I felt this thread should continue into at least mildly comedic territory. Someday, given all the popular acclaim, I will post my favorite all time blond joke that was first told to me by a little thirteen year old blond girl that played for me on a soccer team.1 point

Which holiday season are you talking about? Halloween? Thanksgiving? Christmas? National Gorilla Suit Day? Vernal equinox? Easter? National Do A Grouch a Favor Day? That is the problem of offering a date/time without being specific. It is like saying "It will be ready Friday" without specifying which Friday.1 point

Well the beta is up to Version 4.8.0.55 and there has been several recent releases in rapid succession. It seems bugs are being fixed/encountered fairly often. I do not really know exactly what is happening as these betas could be just little fixes before the main release or it could be that these are new bugs and the betas will have to run for some time to be sure that the found ones are fixed and that there are no newly introduced bugs that are bad enough to be show stoppers. I am trying to be patient but my health is deteriorating and, before it becomes too hard, I would like to install the release version so I am less likely to run into unexpected bugs. I can always wipe out my existing beta and install the release but, even though I store support files along side my media it would take a fair amount of time and something might happen that would require a lot of effort to correct and I am not sure I can concentrate long enough to fix a major problem if it should happen. But, for now at least, the beta is running fine so my anxiety level is pretty low but I really want to run the release version as soon as possible.1 point
