I think most people agree with us and someday I imagine Emby will behave this way as well. Until that day (and I'm sure well beyond), I use this application to clean and customize my playlists and EPGs as well as use their excellent EPG content. The author added a special Emby option to duplicate xmltv entries to allow Emby to behave how we want it too. I highly recommend it.2 points

I can only get that to happen with Movies that don't actually have a thumb to begin with (so Emby is making a thumb from a backdrop).2 points

Hi @@ebr Can we please either have a switch to force transcoding of .ts files or just do it. Whilst seeking in a .ts Direct/V does work to a degree on a long recording its just not accurate and drives you "up thw wall" when trying to skip adverts etc. I have had enough of always going in to "Playback error" to force a transcode and recover proper seeking! Either add a setting in the overall options to force transcoding of .ts or otherwise just force transcoding of all .ts files regardless. Krs Mark1 point

Hello fellow Emby enthusiasts, Today, I’m excited to share with the community a new tool designed to aid in managing large media libraries with a level of automation – introducing the Emby Media Deduplication Script! As our collections grow, so does the likelihood of accumulating duplicate content. This script aims to streamline the process of identifying and eliminating such redundancies. Why the Deduplication Script? With extensive collections spanning thousands of titles, manually sorting through duplicates can be an overwhelming task. The deduplication script was created out of a need to handle these large libraries efficiently and automatedly, performing thorough scans and safely deleting duplicates without requiring user supervision for each action. What Does It Do? The script connects to your Emby server and: - Scans the specified library for media items with matching provider IDs (such as Imdb, Tvdb, Tmdb). - Utilises a quality-based algorithm to retain the best version of a duplicated item. - Deletes all other lesser-quality duplicates. It’s designed to be hands-off; once configured and initiated, the script will operate autonomously, making it suitable for large libraries where manual oversight isn't feasible. How Can You Help? We're calling for the brave and intrepid to help us test the script. Before you proceed, here are some crucial things to consider: The script deletes media: It is built to be unsupervised, and upon confirmation (`--doit` flag), it will remove duplicate content deemed lesser in quality. It's powerful: While designed with care and extensive error handling, it has the potential to make significant changes. Test it with smaller sections of your library or use `--doit` sparingly if you want to assess its actions step-by-step. Feedback is invaluable: Share how it fares with your collection. Insights into its operation and suggestions for improvements are warmly welcomed. Testing Guidelines: 1. Backup your library metadata (and your content if you can?) 2. Review the script's logging details to understand its decisions. 3. Don't use the `--doit` flag or set it to false before you let the script make any changes. Getting Started: This is not an Emby plugin, nor does it run "inside" Emby. Here's a quick guide to get you started: Access the Script Repository: The script is available on GitHub, a platform for sharing code. Visit the repository at troykelly/emby-dedupe, where you can download the container and view detailed instructions. Why you need Docker: Docker is a container platform that allows you to run applications in a controlled environment, ensuring consistency regardless of where the script is run. It simplifies the process of setting up and operating software across different systems. You can download Docker from Docker's official website. How to Use the Script with Docker: Once you have Docker installed and running on your system, you can pull the containerized version of the deduplication script from the repository. The container includes all necessary dependencies, so you don’t have to worry about the setup. Instructions for pulling and running the Docker image are detailed in the repository’s README file. Initial Precautions: - Make sure your Emby server is running. - Make a backup of your Emby server data. - It is recommended to run the deduplication script when your server is not under heavy load, to minimize potential issues. Execution: The repository instructions will guide you through executing the script step-by-step. You'll be able to simulate what the script does before you let it make any actual changes. This is the perfect way to see what the script might do once the `--doit` flag is enabled. Need Help? If you have any questions or get stuck, feel free to ask in this forum thread or open an issue on the GitHub repository for assistance. Important Note: Please ensure that you thoroughly understand the script’s functionality and the implications of automated content deletion. While designed for safety and accuracy, verifying its actions align with your expectations and collection management strategies is essential. We are looking forward to the community's involvement in refining this tool. As we collectively test and provide feedback, we can fine-tune its performance better to serve the diverse needs of Emby users worldwide. Happy deduplication!1 point

I've noticed there's a Recently Released Movies homepage option on at least the Windows server and the Android app, any chance it can be added to the Android TV app as well? I side loaded the Android app on my Shield to try that out, it's better in some ways, I like it less in others, but it's nice that it does have the Recently Released Movies option. I'd love for it to be added to the Android TV app as well.1 point

This is in reference to the question of copying the folder then scanning the library before the recording happens. The library has real time monitoring enabled. I just created a new folder in the same location as the recordings are set to record into to prepare for it to record the new episode airing tonight. Right after I created the top-level series folder (Celebrity Wheel of Fortune (2021)) and as I was creating the Season 4 folder, the server was already creating the tvshow.nfo file. Went into the Season 4 folder to copy the files to it and there was already a season.nfo file created. Normally I would copy all 5 files (bif, edl, jpg, nfo, ts) to the location but I left out the nfo on 1 and it was recreated within a few seconds of the copy finishing. I will look when it starts to record to see if it creates a new directory and library entry for it (minus the year) as it did previously or if it doesn't create a new directory and library entry and puts it in with the old recordings.1 point

ok so thank you too @luke For anyone that reads this, the fix was logout my main user and then use manual log on and log on that same user even though it already existed unticking the Remember Me section . The other users didn't have to touch. Is then means when I exit the app I get the log on screen each and every time1 point

No, on other occasions I am able to play with other devices no problem (when the server is up). So it’s something to do with the fire tv. I will keep monitoring and send another log next time it refuses to play.1 point

cool just thought the binary data part was an odd occurrence considering that was were the filename was going1 point

Would love to see a server side feature introduced to utilise nvidia cards super resolution features to do server side upscaling.1 point

It seems to be that you have the answer - make refresh rate switching a feature of advanced settings for movie watching. In fact, you could have movies play in their native frame rate by default, with an option to override or "frame rate switch" as an option. Then just leave the TV shows alone ...1 point

Cache will have a large impact on the folder size (it will build over time) - but everything is stored under the root emby folder - be it the roaming profile, or if created using a 'portable' version of emby - then under any folder you specify. It is perfectly possible to ZIP up the entire folder and deploy on another machine for a 100% restore. Saving metadata to the media folders is a good option to select, as emby specific files such as BIF files (used for seeking thumbnails for example) can then be shared by multiple emby instances should you wish to do that - a test and prod system for example. The images themselves on the media folders will be cached locally (with a ttl) for speed reasons - thus building the cache over time - the more you browse/view - the bigger the cache will get.1 point

Default is 0/0, but in documentation example they use 100/50. I have seen same values as recommended settings from various blog posts as well..1 point

I think @GrimReaperyou could be right, some "backdrops" from certain providers do have title text and do look like a thumb. I'm not a big fan of that but I must admit I've used them for a thumb image if there wasn't one available at the time. If I see a backdrop with text I usually manually switch it out.1 point

They'll still count if they use any Premiere facilities other than simple connection, though - the unlock doesn't negate that. But support for the devs is good - I've just bought an unnecessary Premiere licence for that reason. Paul1 point

Seeing same as @arrbee99and @Junglejim, only on items with no thumbs/backdrop fallback. So not clear as to why OP is seeing it on thumbs as well. @Multiverseare you sure those images are thumbs and not languaged-backdrops (someting TMDB's being erroneously doing for far too long)?1 point

Hi Luke. Yes I'm still having this issue. However, given recent changes at Dropbox I'm looking to migrate off rclone on the next few months altogether and any underlying cloud service. It's not having a significant detrimental effect on the server so happy to close this out. Thanks for looking into this.1 point

I ran into this issue and updated from 4.8.0.39 to 4.8.0.61 (Official Docker image). I also set the UID and GID. This combined fixed this error for me.1 point

What might be realistically achievable (at some time) would some kind of greyscale variation, where all images can be run through some batch processing and only the colors would need some adjustments in the CSS. Maybe..1 point

Yes, they were very ugly!. I didn't mind the white and black background options, but whoever came up with the purple and yellow foreground/highlight options must have been color blind!?!? Definitely not worth your valuable time and effort implementing these!1 point

You can't really prevent this from happening (WAN IP change) unless you have the option of static IPs from your ISP. The workaround is to use a dynamic DNS (DDNS) service to register your WAN IP and update when it changes. Then you use a domain name instead of IP address to access your server remotely. Many consumer routers have a built-in DDNS client, some may support a list of providers. It's the easiest way but you can also use a DDNS service of your choice and an updater tool that can run on different platforms. There are many free DDNS providers but check the details first because some require periodic verification, like account login every 30 days, etc. DNS-o-Matic is a site/service where you can consolidate and manage IP updates to many other services from one place using a single DDNS client.1 point

Ok, solved it. It was Rate limiting of Traefik. Increased burst from 50 req/s to 100 and works now. ratelimit: rateLimit: average: 150 burst: 1001 point

Hello @Lukeis there any progress with this request? I agree with @BillOatman Same tvg-id is not an indication of a duplicate. You can have 2 IPTV providers each with USA Network and both sharing the same tvg-id since they are the same channel. But they are not duplicates of each other, they are different streams. The only true duplicate indication is if 2 entries have the same stream URL,1 point

HI, were you able to get the libraries removed? This shouldn't happen anymore in the upcoming 4.8 server release.1 point
-
Hi, the upcoming 4.8 server release will have the ip address in the devices management section if that's what you're looking for.1 point
-
I'll let you know. I implemented the change, and a quick test playback worked smoothy. However, the problem is intermittent, and only happens ~50% of the time. If we go a few days without the problem coming back, then I'll post here to update.1 point

Dropping this here: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/77083-saml2oauth-login-method-ie-okta/ These requests, to my last post in the thread above, are not dissimilar.1 point

Well, I ended up switching to JellyFin. It's a bit rougher around the edges (I think that might be my Synology Setup more than anything). But it doesn't hang or glitch out on the TV at nag screen time (There is no nag screen). However licensing is validated on Emby it doesn't happen at app start. It must be just at nag screen time? As tethering my home network to my phone for internet and then loading Emby on my TV and watching a show and then disconnecting still triggered the nag screen later that night. And I know the TV had internet because it, of course, immediately popped up with an update. As well, the Emby server also had internet. I might come back to Emby when I have a permanent internet connection again but for long term offline use its no different than sticking with a free license. Thanks for your patience listening to me work though it, Tyler1 point

Yes. Leaving quality on 'auto' always results in playback issues. Manually adjusting it to the maximum and everything is perfect. Want me to try upgrading to the latest beta?1 point
-
Then he needs to provide a suitable way to do it ... It really is a beyond a basic requirement for a media interface - show a filtered list of media on the home screen. I'm really not sure why it has been omitted for so long .. we keep getting 'promises' - the latest beta has a 'collections' row now (but no way to show the actual contents of a collection) and 'Recently Released' items (that don't show as duplicates) - so I guess it's 'possible' but what's the secret ? - I suspect it needs unique item types in the db.1 point

You can expect to have the 4.8 stable release this holiday season.1 point

Understood and the server will provide more control over this in future updates. Thanks0 points
