  1. Ok, let's unpack some things. First, Semantic Versioning doesn't have its own format. It added semantic meaning to an existing and very popular versioning format. In other word, just because you see xx.yy.zz or xx.yy.zz.bb, doesn't mean its authors' are being semantic. Second, SemVer isn't really intended for end user releases, in general. It's specifically about releases of apis and libraries that are intended to be used by other programs. It's a way of signalling to other developers that they should or shouldn't expect to have to change *their* code if they switch to a new version of someone else's api or library. Don't expect a packaged end user product to be semantically versioned, even if it contains semantically versioned components under the hood. Third, SemVer says absolutely nothing about downgrading after an upgrade. Fourth, never install a beta of anything onto something you care about without having an explicit and tested backup and recovery process in place. Betas are an attempt to find problems before release, so expect to find problems.

  4. I don't see any good reason why this feature is not already existing. It has been suggested ever since 2015, and has already been made possible by other major platforms. Can we get an update whether this is going to be considered or not?

  5. Yes and this move by Plex has brought them out of the woodwork. As I said, the device limits are really our only tool (because we do not control your servers) and, right now, many of them are using loopholes to sidestep it. We may have to make some changes to combat this.

  7. I'm a plex life time member, but I have been using Emby for over six years continuously, but there is a feature which I have always thought is missing in Emby which I would like and encourage the developer to consider including especially in this dispensation where families can social or commingle due to COVID 19. Today, I received a notification from Plex about it new feature titled Watch together you can read about it here https://support.plex.tv/articles/watch-together/ The feature allows friends and families at distance to watch same movies together instantly, you simply invite all your buddy, once they signed to the system which can be seeing in the server then play and pause as needed, this I think is cool feature should be added to emby. Let's here your though if Emby developer should consider adding this feature to our beloved Emby Media https://www.bing.com/news/search?q=Plex+Watch+Together&qpvt=plex+watch+together&FORM=EWRE

  15. A possible solution you might find useful for Emby Theater (and other apps) is the "Always on top" function of Microsoft's Power Toys (not sure if I'm allowed to link here or not??) It's a great suite of extra functionality for Windows and solved this problem for me. It can be toggled with a simple Win+Ctrl+T shortcut on whichever window you have focused at the time.

  18. No SSL - you should be using port 8096. Chrome - you should check that your call is not being made using https (even if you typed http, Chrome may change it). If you can see https in Chrome, change it to http and try again. Paul

  19. On the remote PC, are you using Emby Theatre (either version - desktop or store), or are you using a browser? In which case are you trying by calling app.emby.media, or a direct connection to your server? Either way, are you using Chrome or another browser? Paul

  20. I used Plex for a couple of years before switching to Emby. Everything in Emby seems easier to me. Messing with metadata for my movies. Matching movies to their proper title with the "identify" feature. Changing cover art. Navigating the list is faster on my clients and just seems to be more the way I would have done it. Plex works, but it feels weird. It's measurably slower on my system too. Emby is a little bit better looking from a picture perspective on Nvidia Shield. It is slightly sharper than Plex and slightly more deeply saturated. It just looks better playing content. Play, pause, seek, and information display on the client are better for me. Choosing the audio track and the subtitles is better. Collections with the auto collection feature are awesome. Plex has collections. But you have to do it all manually. The Emby auto collection feature is not perfect. It got most of mine right. The ones that were not right, I fixed using the web interface. It was easy to do so. I created a bunch of my own collections too. That was very satisfying. If you want more of my gushing about how much better Emby is, read my forum post in this forum called "Love Letter To Emby". That's probably bit too enthusiastic, but it really is an enormous difference for me having come from Plex and from Kodi before that. Brian.

  21. Thank you, I would not have figured this out....I am so busy doing other things and am at my parents for an afternoon/evening at most and usually busy doing things for them as my father is too old to do much anymore. I will call my mom and have her try this and report back. Thanks so much!

  22. I don't know if this is helpful to you, but I read some people have had issues whereby once they turn on subtitles/captions in Accessibility options, then even after they turn them off they still appear. So far I've been unable to see these in your sample video, until now. I was messing around with the accessibility subtitles and trying different modes (ie: hearing mode). Eventually I started seeing these caption artifacts on screen. Even after I turned them off in the TV settings, they continued to play. I tried restarting the app, but that still did not fix it. Finally, I did a full restart of the TV (hold down the power button continuously for about 5 seconds until it shuts off then restarts with the Samsung logo - alternatively, just remove power from the TV). After this the subtitles were gone. Maybe this is your issue. If you parents have turned subtitles on at any time, then turned them off, the TV possibly needs a full restart to really turn them off.

  26. Hi @LukeThank you, As adminexitium said, the cinema release date is too far from the digital or physical release date. In emby when you sort by release date, the film is never at the top of the list. look for example for oppeiheimer, when he is available, he will be available at least in July.

  27. This concept has been mentioned before but it has been lost each within much bigger harder to implement changes (a.k.a good ideas that are never going to happen). In these modern times of binge watching it is common for someone to not start to consume a show until the current season is complete. Whilst I do realise there is room for nuance in this (e.g. current season airing and last season unwatched) I propose we ignore all this for a much simpler "at a glace" easier to implement option. Change the shape or colour of the unwatched episode counter to indicate when the latest season has completed. I tried to mock something up just changing the green circle to a gold star but i soon realised i have the skills of a 5yo and cant do it. Perhaps someone else can.

  28. Those tags would actually nicely tie-up with another FR: If last episode: 1) Has NO tags - "Airing" 2) Has "Season finale" tag - "Returning" 3) Has "Series finale" tag - "Ended"

  31. Intel is THE KING when it comes to hardware transcoding, period. I've linked for you testing by Rigaya. If you don't know who they are, then you don't take encoding seriously :P. AMD is garbage tier when it comes to transcoding, both in speed and quality. And why spend so much on a NUC? If it's just going to be doing the transcoding, I'll parrot my "buy a smashed screen or refurb laptop of fleabay". You can get a 12th gen for about $200. (my i5-1235u was $130). In regards to 12th gen to 13th gen, there may be a little speed difference, but the ASICS are the same, so you won't get any new features. Even an i3 will do the job. You don't need an i9 if you're doing quicksync transcodes. I ran an i3-8130u and it had no problems with 10+ 1080p transcodes, and could handle 3 4k trancodes at most. As for the buggy or laggy, hardwire the server. Wifi is horrible for data transmission, no matter what the specs say.

  36. BIG steps made with a lot of success: Upgrades Emby server to v4.7.14.0 (latest released version) from v4.6.x, after making a full backup of all Emby Server directories As I installed-deïnstalled several TV-tuner solutions, I recognised that the database was somewhat cluttered (strange EPG entries kept up commiing, although the plu-in and all other Live-TV stuff was uninstalled), also re-install and de-install did't get rid of the Live-TV + EPG informtion in the database.....also comprssing the database didn't solve this issue.....thus: backup of the library.db, rebuilding/reindexing all data seemd to be the solution..... Reindexing took approx. 18 hours for all data: approx 99,9% is OK again....isn't that great ! Step-1 Live-TV solution with VU+ UNO-4K (DVB-C with FSB tuner end Ziggo paycard, see VU Plus Installed the Emby VU+ plugin and all >400 channels were all available, EPG took some time, but also that work fine. As the VU+ UNO4K is using a FSB tuner: you can use many channels simultanious, for example recording+TV-looking....works fast & without any issues and is somewhat legal !: GREAT Two issues: EPG TV-channel logo's are not available (probably due to an issue in the VU+ plugin?) Within WMC. Live-TV, the channels are not identified (see attachment): that is not comfortable....please fix Step-2 Live-TV solution with IPTV In the past months, I tested a IPTV solution with a seperate EPG supplier: I finally found out how to scope with the 'too' big amount of TV-channels, VDO, TV-series, etc. simple by choosing the correct categorie The quality of the full-HD (or 4K) looks ok, but if you are quality minded: especially with moving/panning video, the picture is unstable probably due to limited bandwith of IPTV....but TV-channel logo's worked with any issue ! and in most cases, the IPTV channels were always avaliable and fast channel-switching ! WMC is currently in beta-test and available as browser, Windows and Andoid stand-alone, which is great, but: I had to test it on my MCE system, which runs Windows-7 (=MCE limitation) and thus didn't accept the WMC-standalone....unfortunately, luckely the browser version works on Edge/Win7...although not as smooth as MCE on Win7.... Not all text of WMC is translated into Dutch; is someone helping you on that matter I'm not sure if all this has to be translated into Github, or that you guess will do that ? I'll continue testing WMC as a functional tester if it helps you to improve it, is there already a final release date set ? Thanks & best regards, Peter

  41. I tried the Emby image on my new Pi4, 4GB, and both the menu and playback had very poor performance. So I went with RPiOS 64 (Bookworm, brand new this month) with Emby Theater and it runs very smoothly.

  43. Well the beta is up to Version 4.8.0.55 and there has been several recent releases in rapid succession. It seems bugs are being fixed/encountered fairly often. I do not really know exactly what is happening as these betas could be just little fixes before the main release or it could be that these are new bugs and the betas will have to run for some time to be sure that the found ones are fixed and that there are no newly introduced bugs that are bad enough to be show stoppers. I am trying to be patient but my health is deteriorating and, before it becomes too hard, I would like to install the release version so I am less likely to run into unexpected bugs. I can always wipe out my existing beta and install the release but, even though I store support files along side my media it would take a fair amount of time and something might happen that would require a lot of effort to correct and I am not sure I can concentrate long enough to fix a major problem if it should happen. But, for now at least, the beta is running fine so my anxiety level is pretty low but I really want to run the release version as soon as possible.

  45. DRAFT .... v 1.0.1.35 Added support to include any BCP47 extended language codes read from the BCP47 element in the MKV. ie Spanish (Mexican) Set under Audio Settings - Default = OFF If selected, then the BCP47 sub language is inserted - ie If Tag's are selected - then it will also write the full language -- Need to do a little more testing - then I'll post the DLL.
