  1. It is briefly covered in this article: https://github.com/EmbySupport/Emby.Docs/blob/master/Remote-Setup.md I added this to my list of edits I'm working on. I thinking it would be good to create a new page with more information concerning NAT/CGNAT, VPNs and other troubling issues that can be added. This new page can then be linked from either of the main two connectivity articles (or anywhere else). This would provide additional space to focus/explain troubleshooting steps without making the main articles longer than need be.

  2. As it turned out, the issue was a simple mis-naming error. I found the following day when my head was clearer. Thanks just the same Luke.

  4. Apologies if this is a dupe with 190 pages of requests it is had to make sure. IMDB and themoviedb both have a lists feature and whilst i realize we cant use IMDB as a data source i use it here to show the concept (since it is easier to google examples that themoviedb). If a list could be the source of a collection tag it opens the door to some quite nice views. For example: TOP 100 BEST DISASTER FILMS https://www.imdb.com/list/ls002913604/ Top 100 Greatest Movies of All Time https://www.imdb.com/list/ls055592025/ Cult Pics https://www.themoviedb.org/list/120552

  5. When files are directly related, like the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings movies I change the sort title so they show up in the order I want. And in the case of the Hobbit movies I use "Hobbit xx.yy" as the sort title even for the ones titled as "Lord of the Rings." Normally I use the form "Title Date released" like "Amityville 1979" but I make exceptions for movie series that were not released in the order for best viewing like "Star Wars" I use sort titles like "StarWars xx.yy" where xx=the major viewing order and yy is used to insert newer movies between existing ones like "StarWars 01.00" for the first movie in viewing order and "StarWars 04.00" for "A new Hope." Later on I needed to insert "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" in between "Revenge of the Syth" and "A New Hope" so I used StarWars 03.50 and that inserted it between the movies I wanted it to be between. By naming the movies that way in the sort title I still see the original title displayed but the order is what I want. I also am covered unless some studio decides to release 100 or more movies between two earlier ones. I do use collections but I NEVER allow Emby's automatic collection feature to do it as that feature is majorly flawed and cannot even group the Frankenstein movies together correctly. I do not usually browse by collections but, when I do I do not want to have to go into three or four different collections just to see all the movies related by title. Emby offers so many naming/sorting options that it was hard for me to decide exactly how I wanted it done. I came up with my methods several years ago and I have not had to change it, at least yet.

  7. I already tried with and without these options. However my proxy error didn't happen for days now so I'm guessing the issue is more complicated and not directly related to Emby. Just hope it's never happen again. Thank you @Lukeit's immersive how you are always here doing your thing so calmly. Keep it up really appreciate your work.

  9. The cinema release date is 8th Sep. whereas the digital is 28th Oct. & physical is 14th Nov. so sorting by release date (currently the "In Cinemas" date) when the movie finally gets added (probably on either the digital or physical release), its not going to be at the top/front of the list.

  10. Hi Apologies, this is a case of user error. I found I had two copies of the TV folder, one shared with Emby the other not and I was adding new TV shows to the unshared folder. I don't watch much TV these days so don't use Emby much. Thinking back I was going to do some major data shuffling around which I never completed. I just saw some free disk space and added to that folder. Looks like I need to complete my original plans for the major data shuffling aorund.

  11. Figured i would try to repost it with only the questions that remain and not the full original questionnaire to keep it a bit more obvious what my questions are at this point. Environment Variables for Emby Server. environment variables you need ui, guid on glist. This is in scale’s user management. What about the others you mentioned? The groups video, render, bin apps, is that for other apps or are they also needed to make emby work? If it’s for other apps then i can tackle those ui and guid’s when it’s time for those. If it’s for Emby then what do they do? Would the numbers be the same as on Freebsd or not? If it’s the same then i could copy them from apps i use right now. Is it app dependent? If so then i’ll go look for them when needed. Also you said we need to give permissions for each library to the user and bin group that will acces them. Does that mean every emby user needs acces to each folder? On Core that wasn’t necessary, Emby's users were purely present in Emby. If it's necesssary, will they still have their viewing history and such after migrating or not? Is there a specific user group we use for emby or do we make our own for emby? I don’t see a emby or media group so we have to make our own? Do we need to configure the HTTP Service? Just noticed this option disappears when enabling host networking so guess it becomes irrelevant at that point? For emby atleast? Is the host path for server config volume option needed when you have premiere since that saves configuration every 24 hours too if i recall correctly? Mouth path in Pod assigning followed by mount path which shows /mnt/datapool/volume It kinda sounds like mounting points in freebsd. Link library to mnt /name of your raid volume/dataset name (library) , For example in case of tv - mnt / name of your raid volume / tv or for movies - mnt/nameofyourraidvolume/movies. If i’m reading it right then mount path in Pod means the library in emby? And host path is the mount point in your storage pool on the scale machine. If my previous question’s answer is Yes, does that mean when i log into the web ui i don’t need assign libraries anymore? To clarify, on Core i just mounted a media folder which held my series, movies, music folders and then in the webgui of emby i assigned the libraries by pointing to the media mount paint and selecting the series, movies or music folder in there. So in Core it currently is /mnt/pool/dataset which in my case the dataset is named media, when i go to emby to add a library, i tag the + next to folders go to the correct set, into media and there i see all my folders from which i can choose to add a library. So if i want to add movies i would do /media/movies and emby would see it. (If permissions are all set up properly ofcourse which on my Core machine they are) Been looking into pods and it seems they are sort of like jails on Core? Their own little seperate instance so it can't influence the host box? Thanks again for the replies so far as it's given me new insights in how the whole operation should work.

  12. Intel - for the QSV AMD will be poor in both transcoding performance and support in comparison.

  16. Upon reflection...I can't see how this can be the problem because the CCs are not showing watching regular TV using Dish Satellite, they only show in emby playing my files.

  19. Just letting you know I tried the suggestions in this post - https://www.truenas.com/community/threads/update-freenas-version-of-emby-jail.83296/ and they did not work for me. This one has to do with Plex, but was wondering if something similar could be at play here - https://www.reddit.com/r/freenas/comments/ewacpe/help_just_updated_to_113_cant_update_plex_pass/ Chris

  22. I'm fairly experienced with the Mac ecosystem. I use it daily for home and work. I have tried to use a Mac as a home theater type device and found myself frustrated. Macs aren't really meant for this duty. You will find that you absolutely need a keyboard and mouse/pointer for some things. That's a deal killer for me. Also the way that HDMI is handled on the Mac just isn't designed for TVs, AVRs, soundbars, etc. For those reasons I use the best set top box I could find: The Nvidia Shield. (2017 version in my case). This device was designed for home theater. It's designed to be used with a remote. How do you know this? Because it comes with a remote! lol. I use an M1 Mac as a server, but I wouldn't even consider it as the client. It's just not the right device. You will be much happier with a set top box. The only people that are happy with a computer as a home theater component are those that want to use a keyboard and mouse. Or those that want to run very specific scaling and DSP. Neither of which can be done by Emby. So, you either want a Windows box running something that is not Emby, or you want a set top box. As long as we are at it, HDMI ARC and CEC are both to be avoided. CEC in particular is the source of infinite frustration for thousands of people. ARC lacks support for some high resolution audio formats. Both are well intentioned protocols that work when they work and make you crazy when they don't. Obviously all of this is just my opinion. Best of luck, Brian.

  23. I have a full backup in ISO (over 800 Bluray FHD/UHD/3D, some few anime DVDs).. i moved away from MKV long time ago, back in the time I was convinced that I had to rip everything to MKV ("you won't lose anything", "better experience", blablabla..) so I ripped my collection to MKV (around 400 discs back in that time) .. it was a pain to rip but it was more a pain to use.. MKV cripples a lot of things that for some people are optional but to many other people are *must have*.. you have to get rid of the menus/extras, you have to get rid of seamless branching, you have to get rid of DoVi FEL.. and for what? I understand that some people doesn't deal with ripping.. they just "download" the MKV from somewhere and call-it-a-day.. but for the people the actually wants to backup their collection, they use to like to have the full experience (it's a pain to have to go to the storage, search for the bluray... etc.. whenever we want to play the extras) So I re-ripped again the 400 BluRays i previously converted to MKV and ripped again everything in good old un-crippled ISO. I still use Emby as frontend/cataloguer, Emby functionality is very crippled in that sense.. we do not even get information about the audio track / subtitles in the cataloguer.. we are told that this is complicated to implement, but cataloguers in the Dune/Zidoo players support that, or rippers like DVDFab can get *full* information of the ISOs. Next to the crippled EmBy catalogue functionality, player is also not going to work (even in direct play, I do not care about transcoding) It would be possible to ignore the menus and play the main movie (Zidoo offers that possibility as well) but even that it's not supported by Emby.. the only possibility is using Emby as (crippled) cataloguer and then have a external player (hardware or software, I use a OPPO player for that). Could we have a better experience? yes... but we need a friendly developer that believes that this is worth it (Kodi in way more advanced in that aspect)

  24. Not sure what you're asking here, as @darkassassin07stated, Premiere Feature Matrix clearly states that Full Playback on consoles requires valid Premiere subscription, doesn't matter whether local or remote.

  25. Nope. When I grew up, using swear words in my house was something we did not do. My parents didn't swear and none of us kids would dare do it either else we'd get a bar of soap in our mouth or a belt across the bottom. As I grew up and had kids of my own, I have the same policy in my house. No swearing allowed, period. Because society is decaying more and more on a daily basis, I know I can't protect their ears 24x7 but in my house, I can block out the world and give them a loving, nurturing environment. My youngest use to take the bus to/from school but after hearing the language these 2 boys were using at the bus stop, I now drive her to/from school. These foul mouth little monsters were saying things that would make a porn star blush. Thankfully, my children are nerds and just like playing online games with their friends. If their friends drop an F bomb during a gaming session, they know to ask them to stop else they'll have to quit playing with them. Yes, I sit within ear range and listen to their voice chat. I always edit out swear words from their shows and movies before they watch them and sometimes will even delete entire scenes that display content that doesn't align with my beliefs. For unknown reasons, this enrages some people. I'd never tell anyone how to raise their child or what they should or shouldn't let them watch and I don't want anyone to do that to me. They're MY kids and I'll raise them how -I- see fit. If studios want to make an amazing movie that has 60 minutes of a perfect story, followed by 30 minutes of the lead character just standing on screen dropping the F bomb non-stop, no problem. I'd never demand they remove that movie from theaters and if somebody wants to take their 6 year old to see it, knock yourself out. What I would do is wait for a digital release of that movie, delete everything after the 60 minute mark and go on with life and nobody should get upset about that. For some crazy reason, we as a society were able to survive and make progress without non-stop profanity in TV shows and movies for decades. Then, the FCC decided they needed to allow disgusting and vulgar things in all forms of media. I have yet to see the benefit of that decision but I digress. As time goes on, I find myself watching more and more shows and movies from the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s. This modern stuff is just garbage.

  29. DRAFT .... v 1.0.1.35 Added support to include any BCP47 extended language codes read from the BCP47 element in the MKV. ie Spanish (Mexican) Set under Audio Settings - Default = OFF If selected, then the BCP47 sub language is inserted - ie If Tag's are selected - then it will also write the full language -- Need to do a little more testing - then I'll post the DLL.

  30. Maybe they mean the 'official', and the copied. Personally I go with the official - makes it easier to get suport from the emby devs.

  31. @ebr I think that's what everyone is kind of getting at. It'd be nice for users to not have to re-enter a password each time they're using the app. Remote users are often family members, parents, kids, etc that entering a password like that is difficult each time or simply to inconvenient. I know that sounds pretty ridiculous but it's true. From an ease of use standpoint, even remote users should be able to log in once, and have multiple crendentials (user and password) saved. If you end up switching servers, then yes, you should have to re-enter passwords etc. But like I said above, there's something to be said for both Plex and Jellyfin when you can just easily switch between user accounts wether on a local client or a remote client. It's just an ease of use thing that makes the whole experience more enjoyable for the end user. Just my. thoughts for what they're worth.

  32. I will put another plug here for implementing Album Artist as a universally available filter/sort option. Going into music collection by Genre but with no ability to sort/scroll by Album Artist is a big limitation and frustration.
