Hello, Is it possible that in a version of emby a "ping pong" is performed in websocket to maintain a connection via a reverse proxy? Let me explain. Apart from reverse proxies such as caddy or traefik (for those I know) there is no real timeout for websockets. For reverse proxies like haproxy or nginx, the timeout is defined either by default or by the user. In the case of haproxy or nginx, if someone pauses a video that lasts more than an hour (a movie, for example), the websocket timeout will occur before the end of the movie. Or if, when playing an episode of a series lasting 40 minutes, the viewer pauses the video for 20 minutes, the connection will be closed before the end of the episode. Having the client send a message and the server reply every X seconds/minutes would eliminate the problem and prevent the connection from staying open for 1 hour for no reason, as in the nginx configuration. Also, I saw a message saying that if a connection was closed unexpectedly, for resource reasons, there was no attempt to reconnect. Why not set up a number of reconnection attempts? For example, the client tries to reconnect 3 times, and if none of the attempts work, the connection is aborted. This would, I think, allow better websockets management and avoid connections being open for hours. Or even when changing networks (LTE->wifi or wifi->LTE), this would make it easier to re-establish the connection than quitting the application and reopening it. To avoid sending just a "ping" and a "pong", useful information can be sent through websockets when the client supports them, such as the position of the video playback (which is currently sent via http), because a request via websocket is faster than an http request and sends, with the same information in the body, less data than an http request.3 points

You're absolutely right, that got it! I should have known, that's caught me out before. Thanks for your help2 points

I don't want us to look just like Plex. As I said before, if I'm taking inspiration from something, it's generally Apple Music or Apple TV+, and figuring out how to incorporate our enthusiast type of features into them.2 points

You can modify the timeout in your reverse proxy configuration and increase it to limit websocket disconnection (if your reverse proxy accepts websockets). The purpose of this FR is to apply Emby's own websocket management to prevent connections from being open for 1 hour or more on the various reverse proxies.2 points

'Soon' in the context of emby could mean this afternoon, or it could mean 5 years time - so tbh, we are none the wiser...2 points

Nope. When I grew up, using swear words in my house was something we did not do. My parents didn't swear and none of us kids would dare do it either else we'd get a bar of soap in our mouth or a belt across the bottom. As I grew up and had kids of my own, I have the same policy in my house. No swearing allowed, period. Because society is decaying more and more on a daily basis, I know I can't protect their ears 24x7 but in my house, I can block out the world and give them a loving, nurturing environment. My youngest use to take the bus to/from school but after hearing the language these 2 boys were using at the bus stop, I now drive her to/from school. These foul mouth little monsters were saying things that would make a porn star blush. Thankfully, my children are nerds and just like playing online games with their friends. If their friends drop an F bomb during a gaming session, they know to ask them to stop else they'll have to quit playing with them. Yes, I sit within ear range and listen to their voice chat. I always edit out swear words from their shows and movies before they watch them and sometimes will even delete entire scenes that display content that doesn't align with my beliefs. For unknown reasons, this enrages some people. I'd never tell anyone how to raise their child or what they should or shouldn't let them watch and I don't want anyone to do that to me. They're MY kids and I'll raise them how -I- see fit. If studios want to make an amazing movie that has 60 minutes of a perfect story, followed by 30 minutes of the lead character just standing on screen dropping the F bomb non-stop, no problem. I'd never demand they remove that movie from theaters and if somebody wants to take their 6 year old to see it, knock yourself out. What I would do is wait for a digital release of that movie, delete everything after the 60 minute mark and go on with life and nobody should get upset about that. For some crazy reason, we as a society were able to survive and make progress without non-stop profanity in TV shows and movies for decades. Then, the FCC decided they needed to allow disgusting and vulgar things in all forms of media. I have yet to see the benefit of that decision but I digress. As time goes on, I find myself watching more and more shows and movies from the 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s. This modern stuff is just garbage.2 points

I can tell you for sure this is not the case. We do everything we can to prevent these guys from using us. That is really why we have the device limits.2 points

Media Library Icons for Emby Updated: 07/10/2021 I've always had a thing for the simple gradient style Hulu overlays on their library images. I'm not that great at graphic design, but I can mimic some things pretty decent. I hope! It's very simple, and clean and something I've been wanting to attempt for a while. I've never done anything like this, so constructive criticism is appreciated! More color options for media libraries coming soon!!! Also included to make your icons match across the platform, are video genre, music genre and TV network icons: I've hosted this only my Google Drive, so if if the link is not working please, reach out to me and let me know and I will do what I can to resolve! The font (Kirvy), and PSD's are located in the \~TOOLS\ sub-folder Media Library Icons - DOWNLOAD HERE Feel free to create your own to fit your needs! Hi! This is my trakt config: With this, I would have expected to only have the scrobbler active: POST https://api.trakt.tv/scrobble/start POST https://api.trakt.tv/scrobble/stop But when I mark something as watched in Emby, it sends a history event to trakt, and adds a play in my history: POST https://api.trakt.tv/sync/history Would there be way to disable this? It particularly bit me when I imported my watch history from plex and inserted thousands of watches in trakt1 point

Hi, yes this is a good idea and something we'd like to add in future updates. In the meantime, you may want to check out the playback reporting plugin:1 point

It has nothing to do with what I think of their company or policies, but in general I think A**le does a nice job designing user interfaces.1 point

Chrome is being more aggressive lately in force redirecting to https; as said in the Error message: make sure address in the Chrome address bar starts with http:// (you might have to manually dump "s" from "https"). Quick Google search should also offer few solutions to circumvent that.1 point

Hi, for WinTV this would be two streams because the server would split multiple streams from the same channel as one. For m3u, it depends on the video formats whether we can do that or not.1 point

I don't think any of us expect a solid answer, but we would like a "general idea" of the progress. We are approaching a year since the last release, and it makes people wonder if the project is having issues... Like there is one developer left trying to keep it alive or something? Such a long, mystical pause in releases makes you wonder... I think many of us would just like a general idea of what's happening... This particular feature has had me holding off on rebuilding my playlists for like six months already, and when you ask, you get "soon" or "when it's ready".1 point

To disable auto-start of regular ET: Go to "Settings" 🡒 "Display" Uncheck "Run at startup" ET WMC UI does not have this option, but you should be able to create a shortcut in the Startup folder. For all users: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup For a specific user: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup To create that shortcut: Go to the Emby start menu folder in Windows Explorer: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Emby LLC Then drag the Emby Theater WMC shortcut into one of the Startup folders Before dropping, hold down CTRL and SHIFT - this will create a shortcut instead of moving the item Restart to verify whether it's working1 point

Can the amount of backdrops being used as part of the screen saver be increased? It's a ridiculously low number and the ones chosen don't change unless the server is rebooted.1 point

Just type: ## See the list and then test the link. The wiki is did not update since 2020 or something, so it is @Carlo to fix that.1 point

@darkassassin07 Did you try the key "##" (without the quote) to get list link doc for Emby help guide, example: Emby Premiere1 point

Emby premier is required for playback on all of the installable apps. (except Roku, Apple TV, LG and Samsung Smart TVs) Been this way the entire time I've used Emby. The only free client is the web browser based app (both desktop and mobile). Details here: https://emby.media/support/articles/Premiere-Feature-Matrix.html Ps @Abobader @Lukejdjrjdje@Lukejdjrjdje (JFC WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THIS DAMN EDITOR, all I did was press space and all that garbage was added.... I also can't remove the newline between your names at all) What I'm trying to say here is the 'emby premier feature matrix' links on https://emby.media/premiere.html link to Github which immediately tells you to return to emby.media. This is stupid.1 point

I don't think so. I use Stylus to at least apply a theme through Emby Web, but that's all. On Android, the themes drop down in the profile settings -> display just has some basic ones like Dark, Blue Radiance, etc. The seasonal ones used to show up as an option to switch to on a user level. I wouldn't say it should be something that automatically changes, but at least have them as an option. Then the ones who don't like them won't have to worry about them. I just thought it was weird that my Google TV has the holiday themes, the suggestions, sounds, etc but nothing else I use does. There's no parity. I'm someone that really likes to get into holiday spirit lol. Lights, decorations, etc. Android, the app for Windows, etc aren't affected by the OS UI to change something like that. Maybe light or dark mode if anything, but applying a seasonal theme for Halloween, Christmas, etc would have to be the Emby app itself, which has been missing for a while now.1 point

What does Plex do? It kind of sounds like we never should have been doing that in the first place.1 point

Hey guys, Because of my home renovations and my first baby arriving in one month, the development of EmbyStat is slacking A LOT. I don't have that much time to develop for it, although I did invest some time in improving the existing features. I cleaned up my code as well, and stabilized the sync code a lot. But the most fun new feature is that I implemented the play sync, meaning you can see graphs on what type of media is seen when. This is still in early development, and I'm not sure when I will create a new beta deploy for you all to test. I wish I had more time or a second dev working on the project, so progress would be much faster.1 point

IS there anyway we could see a realtime dashboard similar to Plex where when things get updated, you dont need to refresh the website? Maybe some kind of Ajax? Also in the Dashboard is there anyway of showing number of users like a badge so we know how many users are using Emby along with what they are watching etc. Right now it is a laborious process of going to activity to check.1 point

is there a way to bulk edit content? i have a number of movies where the wrong rating has been downloaded (the US one where it should be the UK rating). i can select multiple movies, but can't see a way of editing them all at once.1 point

When a title appears in the topic of a thread like this it isn't a cause for concern really. Plex is ugly. Their spacing is odd. The huge gaps of empty space are concerning. They also make you click that ... button entirely too much on Plex. The suggestions in this thread hold no more weight than any others. To focus on this thread because of the title is sort of ridiculous. It is okay they are different. It isn't a cookie cutter world. We all have what we like and do not like. You should not think your opinion will be a good idea for everyone else. That your tastes are most important. These things need to be feature requests not inside an "X vs Y" thread because you lose the point. Emby isn't Plex. It shouldn't try to hard to match what they do. Emby should just copy what is the best from every UI and move in that direction. Not in the direction of directly copying someone else. Leave that to JellyFin to copy everything. The big difference with Emby is "Your Media, Your Way" and entirely focused in that direction. Plex is "Their media, Our Way" and entirely focused in that direction. The fact Plex hasn't become entirely web based is simply because of time. They will eventually drop that part which caters to home users with a media collection as they cannot advertise on your media and get money.0 points
