  1. So, there's a known problem with FLAC audio and video playback on Samsung TVs, the audio is NOT supported but its playable so what happens is that you get an audio delay and the audio track will be out of synch for the whole movie. I'm trying to find a way to transcode the FLAC audio on my Emby Samsung TV app, but the app won't transcode it, it will direct play with the delay, is there a way to force the transcode without having to transcode the whole video? Like the app already does with DTS/HDMA for example, so u have the video on direct play and just the audio transcoded.. @SamES

  2. Hello, I have been using Emby for a few years now and I must say that it works great ! Thanks to all the team. However, using it every day, I am regularly confronted with a problem of subtitles not being available on the OpenSubtitles or Addic7ed platforms with Emby, often I find them on small French sites (I think the problem must be present for other languages too ). I'm using Emby on a remote server and there are several of us accessing it, everything is done through the web browser (reverse nginx). I decided to set up a "web file browser" (github\filebrowser) to be able to manually copy the subtitle to the location of the video, rename it with the: 'name of the video.fr.srt' then in Emby on the desired video use the option "Update metadata" then F5 so that the subtitle is available but it's tedious. Would it be possible to have a button to upload a subtitle manually from a file available locally on the PC ? Sincerely, Romain.

  3. Also, It would be cool if we have various m3u lists and have the option to choose/assign each m3u list for each user.. Example. In user settings we can choose which library to give them for VOD so this shouldnt be hard enough to do it for live tv too no? USER 1 - Playlist 1 - Playlist 2 - Playlist 3 USER 2 - Playlist 3 USER 3 - Playlist 1 - Playlist 3 Etc etc.... *** Delete this message from another topic I opened because I posted it by accident there

  4. Hi all, So my MacBook only plays DV profile 5 (yay Thanks Apple, totally not a huge hassle). Which means that I have some profile 5 files, but (again thanks Apple) cannot stream them without it trigering transcoding. Not that big of an issue, i'll just open them locally. But now that I have the files anyway it would be cool if I could use them for my family. At the moment, when tonemapping begins for Profile 5, it will give the signature green and purple look. Jellyfin looks to have fixed that and I was hoping this could also come to Emby, especially snce your recent update mentioning Emby will now recognise and tag content as DV @Luke. No rush, it's not that big of a deal for me but maybe easy and nice to implement when you have the time! J

  5. As more and more ISP's are implementing the dreaded CGNAT due to IPv4 availability, there are more and more support requests in the forums on why their emby 'remote access' is not working. Would it be an idea to test for CGNAT when the 'Remote Access' button is selected in emby ? It's a simple test and then the user can simply be warned that emby will not be able to provide a remote access service on this ISP connection. Maybe provide a link to a 3rd party tunnel solution, but advising this is not supported by emby blah blah. For those that are unaware what CGNAT is (Carrier Grade Network Address Translation) - this is the ISP's own 'private' network in front of the 'Public' internet. It effectively 'shares' public IP addresses with all the IP's on their private network. Subsequently you cannot use it for 'incoming' connections - because that public IP is not exclusive or available to you, it's shared with many others behind a 'private' IP address. There are solutions around it - but they involve a network 'tunnel' - and will be beyond a lot of the users networking knowledge and capabilities.

  12. In that case you should use http://app.emby.media (drop the "s" from "https").

  13. Agree, if it's not supported, then it should automatically transcode. Or, somehow automatically adjusted for the delay. I normally just convert it myself to PCM and remux, but others may have lots.

  14. Thank you for your answer. This was solved simply, I took the dll library from another computer with the same version of Windows assembly. The error appeared just after the update. Solved.

  15. The Peanut is legendary. I still have one from a rather old Direct Tivo. The MX series of remotes emulate the Peanut somewhat in their physical design. The peanut remote has a "waist" in the middle that guides your hand to know where to reach up or down for various buttons. It's nearly ideally sized. The MX-450 has a "waist" but the remote is a good bit bigger, when means that the finger reach is further for some operations. It is not quite as intuitive to use, but it's pretty good. The overall package of the MX-450 with learnable keys on every single button on every virtual device, the macros, the speed, and the programming FROM THE REMOTE (not a computer) makes it great for me. The peanut, in all it's glory, can't quite equal it. That said, if you JUST wanted to use an old unused Peanut remote to control the Shield, then you can do that pretty easily. Get a FLIRC. Then program the FLIRC to respond to the Peanut and send the keys to the Shield that it expects. Plug the FLIRC into a USB port on the Shield and *boom*. Now your Peanut remote controls the Shield. If you aren't familiar, the FLIRC pretends to be a USB keyboard. It sends keyboard keys to the host you plug it into. Your job is to program it so that when you press keys on an IR remote, the FLIRC sends the right keyboard key. For example, the center button on the Peanut would send the <enter> key on the keyboard. You program the FLIRC (on a computer) to do this. Program the other 5 or 6 keys too. Then plug it into the Shield and your peanut remote will effectively send keyboard commands to the Shield, from your remote, and get the results you want. Brian.

  16. Because you have to use the FLIRC with an IR remote on the Shield, key repeat is hit and miss. In most places in Emby, there is NO REPEAT on holding a key down. So I have to repeatedly press a button to go several steps down. This might be a deal breaker for some people. The "lag" is non-existent. The Shield reacts essentially instantly to all remote key presses. This is a big deal for me. My previous Harmony remote (sitting in a box unused now) had a bit of lag on every single key press. Just enough for it to feel slow, but not enough to really feel like lag or echo. It was unsatisfying. When I got the MX-450 it was like getting a car when I had been riding a bike. Again, please note that you need a FLIRC to use this remote with the Shield. Best of luck, Brian.

Solved, indeed, I installed Emby on a Surface with WIN10, I made a backup of the SYSTEM folder of Emby (the one that does not work) just in case, I replaced the system folder of the new installation with the SYSTEM folder of the PC (where it does not work ) and everything resolved, so thank you Luke and you Mibok for the help provided.

  18. Actually - you can - the MKV container supports 'branching' - ie you can have different editions within the same file. However, very few players support this (incl emby) so you're factually correct with your statement above - just thought I'd add into the mix for future knowledge .. See here for details (see Editions) - http://mod16.org/hurfdurf/?p=8

  21. @Hoptional on my initial feedback comment about your build didn't click the option to merge only items of the same library! It wasn't visible on the phone app but it's visible on the website! I activated that option now and your build seems perfect for me. My setup is a bit complicated so I'll post how it is, what does and doesn't as it might help with the same type of setup. Again, million of thanks for doing that.

  26. Your ISP uses CGNAT - see above - until you get yourself a real public ip address, or implement an alternative solution - then it will be impossible for anybody to connect to your local emby server. Speak to your ISP - they may be able to give you a dynamic public IP - for people that do not 'host' a service (such as emby), using CGNAT is not a large problem, thus they will try and get away with it if they can.

  27. In my experience "ordinary" people (as opposed to network engineers, of which I was once one) have hardly ever heard of IPv6 or IPv4; and even if they have, don't know if their ISP has provided them with an IPv6 address. This is as true of my grandchildren as it is of my peers. The extraordinarily slow adoption of IPv6 is a real shame, in my opinion. Paul

  29. I think that creating 2 programs that ultimately do the same thing (or almost) is not very useful. So I'll wait. Like rbjtech, I can offer my help with code or testing (without making your code public with a private repo, for example).

  32. Don't take criticisms of Emby so personally. It's just a media server application (with premium paid for features), and just like I'm free to use Plex (i'm not super happy with it either), you're free to ignore opinions you disagree with. If you really LOVE Emby, that is honestly great for you. Problem is, some of us are having issues with basic functionality and usability when using it. Something as simple as removing a server from Emby Connect doesn't work. A desktop application is a paid subscription just for basic playback. I'm just voicing my thoughts on this. One would think that criticism and feedback are helpful for companies to improve their applications, but the looks of these forums, they have enough defenders that criticisms aren't really considered. Hopefully, staff here are less dismissive than you and continue to improve the experience for all users.. Finally, its great that Emby works well for you. I guess that should be enough for everyone else.

  34. There's nothing we need to excuse for. My standpoint is that it's more beneficial for both, users and our side, to explain the background, challenges and reasons and provide a realistic picture of what can be expected and what not. But perhaps I'm wrong and it's better to do like usual: saying "yes, it's possible for the future" and repeat the same each time someone is asking about it. In this regard, i can only say: "yes, it's possible for the future". And why Isn't everybody using JF? Because they can throw out some experimental features which are working fine sometimes and other times not. They don't owe anything to users. They can say "We have XY working" when it's working in a few cases only. We/Emby can only say that when something is working always (when applicable). That is a huge difference. Why is this so hard to comprehend for you?

  36. I think the easiest way to look at this is to just refresh metadata based on the date added date. Yes, you may well be adding an 'old' movie/ TV series or even new movies not on 'release' day - and that metadata refresh will likely not be required - but there is no harm doing a one off refresh after x days. Using the core library built in function will ultimately do the same thing - but it will keep repeating, which I think is unnecessary.

  37. @sutt359 A CGNAT is a Carrier Grade Network Address Translation. Your home router has NAT (network address translation). NAT is a method of sharing one public IP address with all computers behind it. That's how you're able to use several devices and computers in your home network with only one IP from your ISP. Well, that how it was for you when you had a public IP address previously. NATs are also the basic building block quite often for a firewall. You don't get past the public IP address unless there is port forwarding setup to tell the router what to do with the incoming packets it otherwise would not know what to do with. Any internet traffic that's started from a device/computer inside your network goes through the router and as part of it's routing mechanism tracks the originator and port used so it does know how to process incoming packets with your internal IP. The private IP is also marked in the packets but can be spoofed so the router always checks it. So knowing how this works at a high level you can see that inbound traffic meant to get to your Emby Server stops at your ISP's NAT they now put in place You obviously can't log into their routers and setup port forwarding and there is little chance they will do this for you other than give you a static IP which runs $8 to $12 usually a month. So basically you need a work-around to allow traffic to make it's way to your Emby Server. There are a few methods but these all take a bit of work. Some are pretty easy but have tradeoffs. First - If it's only you and your family who need access when remote for PCs, phones or tablets an easy solution is using a service such as ZeroTier or Tailscale. You can set this up for free but requires software running on both the device and the Emby Server. These two services allow you to have a private network that's essentially a VPN that you will control. You could give access to a couple of friends as well. Typically you can have up to 50 devices on the free plan. Both allow you to setup complete control of your network and grant access to a specific internal IP to another person using the service. This works because they act like moderator who orchestrates the VPN. Your Emby Server will keep a VPN tunnel open all the time to their service. When not using it there is zero activity except for a beacon once in a while which is just enough to keep traffic going back and forth to keep the tracking in place for your CGNAT. When you fireup the app on a PC you also connect to their service. Now both computers are logged in with a tunnel. As soon as you try and access your Emby Server these services will try to establish a direct tunnel from your device to the Emby Server so it's not in the middle but a direct path. This works 95+ of the time but can fail in some corporate networks who shut down udp and other ports needed. Second - The is similar to above but you setup and run your own VPN service with a $5 a month VM. You could setup and use OpenVPN for example. I'm not fond of this method and would just do #1. Third - Use a one way tunnel that's only needed for your server to bypass the ISP CGNAT. This is similar to #2 except you use the hosting account public IP and basically setup a forward for ports 8096/8920 to go through the tunnel to your server. The advantage of this is that you just give the public IP address used for your hosting to anyone and they setup their Emby Client as normal. All the inbound traffic is relayed to your server. You can setup and relay any type of traffic you want this way. Forth - My preference but the most work. Open an account for free at Cloudflare by registering a domain name you will use to access your Emby Server. Cloudflare is a security screen/cdn network so a good thing. They also allow you to setup a tunnel (their software) from your server to their network. So that works around the cgnat issue. You will have all kinds of new security and performance controls on their dashboard as well. You will also be using a certificate from them for secured access on port 443. You can now open a browser and type in https://YourEmbyDomainName.com and it goes through their network to your server. They cache images making your screens load faster in the future. So Cloudflare is the most work but you end up getting a domain name, free tunnel, lots of extra security features and protection, domain management, secured access with a certificate .. You will need a domain name but that's generally less than $10 a year. Besides that cost it's your time to setup and get it working. We have guides that cover most of this setup. Only thing you may need help with is the tunnel but I've got that covered for windows and linux. It's extremely hard to set this up on a NAS and I'd not try. So #1 or #4 are the way to go. Carlo

  38. Hi Guys, I recently moved from Kodi with MySQL for lack of proper multi user management and server side support, I have to say I'm impressed with Emby. Together with the Kodi Plugin it really takes the solution to a whole new level, count me in among the supporters! One feature I would like to see is the ability to recommend movies or shows to other users: I share my Library with close friends and family but it is a big library so they are always calling me to recommend them a movie to watch. It would be really cool if after watching a movie I can click a Recommend button and choose the users I think would like the movie, then it is displayed on their suggested movies at the top with the name of the user who recommended it... Sorry if there is something like this is already there, I am new to the interface and don't fully know it but could not find such feature... Thanks!
