  1. In my experience with similar Media Server software, I've found that I'm the kind of person that wants to control this automatic stuff myself. Almost no amount of user configurable parameters will make everyone happy. The timer is just one parameter. I would like to humbly suggest that you, like me, really want full control. Which means turning off real time monitoring. Instead, your workflow will now include you pressing the "Library Scan" button in the Emby management interface. Then and only then, you will have full control. This type of workflow actually makes me happier. Because I know when I add or remove media. I know when I tell Emby to rescan the library. I can then verify the results that I expect by browsing my library by Date Added, or by verifying that various things are gone, etc. More importantly, there will never be any mysterious events caused by automatic processes. Because you now control them yourself. Manual control always beats automatic if your mindset is at all like mine. Best of luck to you. Brian.

  2. Yes, been mentioned numerous times in various topics, for example:

  3. I'd really like to have 2 Factor Authentication added to the login screen. It's just this (optional) extra layer of security to help secure the server (which, especially if people use camera uploads) contains pretty private data. There are for every type of programming language quite a few libraries available, so implementation on a server shouldn't be too hard to realise

  4. Be able to create playlist based on a certain criteria, like genre and or year, in order to create a dynamic playlist that it refreshes automatically when new content is added. This way you can for example, create a tv comedy playlist from the 90's, or a new sci-fi Movies playlist. Some other criteria for rules could be the rating, watched/unwantched, score, tags, language, audio codec, etc The possibilities could be endless

  5. I wanted a colorful, but minimalist set of Library and Genre icons for when I'm using Emby on Roku, and something that stood out dramatically from the movie posters and thumbs. Here's what I did for the My Media set. Here's my Movie Genres: And the Series Genres RAR file attached with the full set as PNGs, and there is some in the archive not shown above (like Sports and Adult). Enjoy! -Mickey EmbyIcons_v4.rar

  6. I realize this has been discussed before but I wanted to add how useful this would be. I ripped my collection of BluRay/DVDAudio music to ISO and I would like to be able to stream with menus. Yes I could start ripping every song from every disc but that would be a ton of work and it wouldn't be easy to navigate. Especially with a blend of audio/video on these music discs. For the time being I'm just using Kodi, which actually works quite well. It even scrapes the artwork for all my discs. But I'd really love to keep everything within the Emby ecosystem. Maybe it doesn't make much sense for regular movies, but for music releases it's a completely different situation. These discs are still being released all the time. Any chance this might be supported at some point? Please?

  7. I have a couple of media folders holding football and basketball games I've recorded. I recently came accross a metadata website for sports called http://thesportsdb.com. Would it be possible to add a field like the other metadata fields to pull information from that site to fill in fanart, description, dates, etc.? Ii'm not sure if it would require a new media "type" folder called sports, similar to tv and movies. I've linked a couple pages, the first is the API for returning information from the db. http://www.thesportsdb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5 The second is example json (I believe) data http://www.thesportsdb.com/api/v1/json/1/searchteams.php?t=Cleveland%20Indians

  8. Hello the Emby Community I recently created a script to auto-update Emby-Server (on Ubuntu) today and wanted to share it with you. I know there are other versions on the forum, but none were customizable the way I wanted it to be. Here are the possibilities with this version : is able to look for stable only or any latest releases is able to fetch a specific release can ask for a user confirmation before installing anything (in case you run it manually) The script will never downgrade a version without asking you first, so there is no risk breaking Emby by downgrading from beta to stable. By default, only stable releases are installed AFTER asking your permission. Here's the help text : Auto-update Emby-Server to the very last version found on github ---------------------------------------------------------------- The user can either choose the stable or beta branch A user confirmation can be requested before installing a new version When no options are given : -> only Stable releases are looked for -> a user confirmation is mandatory Options: --stable Only look for the latest Stable release --latest Only look for the latest (Beta or Stable) release --version Specify a version to install as a 2nd argument If no argument is provided, display a list of all available versions on Github -s, --silent Do not ask for a user input when a new version is found -h, --help Print this help You can run it manually or to schedule it, you can copy the emby_updater.sh to any directory and then use the below script from the same directory. This will : copy the updater into the default directory of Emby (/opt/emby-server) activate the updater 5 minutes after every reboot (OnBootSec=5min) activate the updater every night at 6AM (OnCalendar=*-*-* 06:00:00) activate the update at any other time if the last start date was missed (Persistent=true) allow any new version, beta or stable (--latest flag) to be automatically installed (--silent flag) mkdir -p /opt/emby-server/updater cp emby_updater.sh /opt/emby-server/updater/ chmod +x /opt/emby-server/updater/emby_updater.sh echo "[Unit] Description=Auto-update Emby-Server on a schedule [Service] Type=oneshot ExecStart=/bin/bash /opt/emby-server/updater/emby_updater.sh --latest --silent " > /etc/systemd/system/emby_updater.service echo "[Unit] Description=Auto-update Emby-Server on a schedule [Timer] OnBootSec=5min OnCalendar=*-*-* 06:00:00 Persistent=true [Install] WantedBy=timers.target " > /etc/systemd/system/emby_updater.timer systemctl daemon-reload systemctl enable emby_updater.timer systemctl start emby_updater.timer Enjoy ! emby_updater.sh

  9. It appears that any playlist that any user creates is public--all other users can see it. I can appreciate the benefit of a public playlist. I could create a playlist called "Harv's Favorite Horror Films" for example, in case other users are interested in checking out what I like. However, the way most of my users are using playlists is to keep track of things they want to watch in the future. They are typically things that the user has not watched yet, so it's not meant as a recommendation to others, just as a way of them personally keeping track of what they want to watch. Having that kind of playlist be public is of questionable benefit to other users. Additionally, it is not clear when you create a playlist that other users will be able to see it. That has the potential to cause some embarrassment. He hasn't created one yet, but I wouldn't want to see my nephew's "movies to fap to" playlist, for example. If I could make a suggestion, I would suggest associating each playlist with the user who created it, and giving that user the ability to make the playlist private or public. For example, the following two checkboxes could be shown when creating or editing a playlist: Allow other users to see this playlist Allow other users to edit this playlist Initially, both checkboxes would be unchecked. Since another user cannot edit a playlist they cannot see, the second would be allowed to be checked only if the first were also checked. (You could grey it out to make that clear.) Depending on your UI preference, it could also be a drop-down menu. Playlist visibility: (Only me | all users can view | all users can view and edit) Thanks for considering this.

  10. Please. I have an extensive collection of BR iso's. I tried the docker version (for unRAID). Apparently it is unable to play BD iso's. Bring it back, I'll get a lifetime Emby Premiere license if you do (and try to program a plugin to be able to scrape the playlists (.mpls files) (see https://github.com/Wimpie-ccc/script.service.bluray_iso_utils for my current work for Kodi (= base class, not yet a scraper)). Thanks!

  11. I'm requesting a feature addition to Emby Theater: a way to change the vertical positioning of subtitles in Emby Theater. I want to raise them up about one line height. I'm comparing native playback of subtitled movies as discs in PowerDVD to MKV in Emby Theater. Emby theater positions the subtitles significantly lower in the screen than the disc playback does, about one full line lower. This worsens the overall experience. For a letterboxed movie like "Amelie", the subtitles fall across the letterbox boundary in Emby while they're within the movie frame natively. And in all cases (also seen in a 1.85 movie like "Kiki's Delivery Service") the subtitles are too close to the bottom of the screen, farther from the natural viewing location, making it a bit harder to read and watch simultaneously. If subtitle height can't be made a user preference, based on my sampling of four or five foreign language films, subs should be about one line height higher to match native Blu-ray playback. The Emby Theater setting is too low, from my small sampling. Thanks

  12. Would we be able to add onto the statuses in Emby? I would like to see the ability to have airing, returning, cancelled, and ended.

  15. I took a quick look at the audnexus, and whilst it does have a whole lot of information and I could use it, it doesn't support lookup by book title, which is a bit of a problem. You can find most books if you have the ASIN, its a bit awkward by Author though, as the author returns just ASIN's, so then you have to look them all up until you find the book. However I have now got several ideas, using several sources how to make a pretty complete plugin. I know just need to borrow some time from somewhere .............. at the moment I dont have much .....

  16. same as external - but will need the HI Flag set. edit I've added to the MediaInfo Plugin yesterday - it searches for the string 'sdh' (any case) in the subtitle track title (in the mkv) and if found - then it will flag the mkv track as HI and you also have the option to remove the track name (as you now have the flag). I note however, that Luke has chosen to use the term 'Hearing Impaired' rather than the term SDH - so having both displayed may no longer be an issue (ie shows the track name and emby derrived name) - the track name removal is optional anyway. Just testing it atm, but when it's all good - I'll release on the mediainfo plugin thread.

  27. The typical reason to add more capable hardware is to enable more parallel transcodings. But only a small percentage does so (needs this). What's wrong about this is the false assumption that a broad range of Emby users would spend that amount of money if it would be there. And then there's still the limited client support. But I don't want argue further in that direction - I think everything has been said already. Instead I want to provide some insights for those who are projecting their own high-end hardware setups or plans as an assumption on the average Emby user setups. First of all, you need consider that a large amount of Emby installations are on NAS devices. Those devices don't have the latest CPU generations and often it's not even possible to install a discrete GPU card. But it's not only on those devices, similar can be observed on Linux and Windows installations: The majority is using Emby on hardware which is (of course not 15y) from something like 3-8 years ago (released). For the range of the past two years, I have 1837 ffmpeg logs from user support cases. Of course this doesn't allow to create any representative statistics, because it's distorted in many ways (e.g. one user posts 1 log, another posts 10 logs and other factors). That's why I don't even want to give any numbers. Instead I'll show you two lists, so you can get a rough impression about which hardware is used with Emby. In each list, one line represents one log file. Means that I grepped the first line from all matching logs (of those 1837). Then I cleaned the lines (removing leading and trailing chars) to have only the model names remaining, Finally the lines were sorted. 1. 28. LOL - that's really insane figures... Yes, this will come. But as mentioned above, the cases where it would be applicable right now are just a fraction (in Emby context). That fraction is so low, that it wouldn't even provide sufficient coverage for testing it. To my knowledge, only the Ada Lovelace generation can encode AV1. Give me a team of 5 developers and 20 testers, as well as a fully stuffed hardware lab, then it would be a different story. We have limited resources and that requires us to make good decisions at the right points in time in order to maximize achievements while minimizing the required effort.

  29. Many times it has come up in this thread as a possible alternative to HEVC. However, it has its own set of challenges as well. This topic should have actually been labeled "Transcode to a more bandwidth efficient codec" because that is really what it is discussing but people often just see what they think is a solution to their problem and ask for that specific implementation. We should always be looking for the higher level problem and find the best solution to that.

  30. Collections will have sorting controls right on the detail screen in the upcoming 4.8 server release.

  31. I'm hoping to get to smart views and playlists after 4.8.

  33. Sort of depends on your setup/structure as Folders can be tagged causing all of its content to honor that tag. Example everything in folder A is controlled by the "Allow" tag. So you can do basic access control at folder level instead of item level. When you have multiple folders to make a library it is easy as you get these folders in folder view, but a single folder library is more difficult.

  34. @ShaneP I am loving the Smart Playlist plugin - thanks for the great work. The only confusion I have is that playlists I create seem to be automatically shuffled. Is there a way to have a playlist sorted, so users can choose whether or not to shuffle? And an additional request is to have the ability to sort by a variety of different fields. I am using it for music and would love the ability to choose whether to sort by Album Artist or Artist or Album. But this is geat work already and much appreciated.

  35. Found a solution. SSH to //var/packages/EmbyServer/var/plugins then chown / chgrp to emby, all good here!
    1 point
  36. Sure you can using SSH. Just place the plugin in a location you can get to easily with File Station or Windows File Manager. For example I have a share setup called "Media" which I have under that Movies, TV Shows, etc. As an example I can access this share from Windows so I just copy the dll to //SYNOLOGY920/Media via Windows as SYNOLOGY920 is my NAS name. Then I SSH into the NAS and sudo -i typing in my admin password (I enabled admin account before doing this and deactivate after). Shut down Emby Server so it's not running. Next I would use the follow command assuming my plugin is called test.dll cp /volume1/Media/test.dll /volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer/plugins restart Emby Server and plugin should load.
