  6. Today, we're glad to announce public availability of the new Emby WMC UI Beta. It started out as a spare-time effort of Emby developer softworkz, assumed to target only a niche audience of nostalgia and WMC fans, and hasn't been an Emby roadmap project. But over time, it has turned into something of its own kind, going far beyond just mixing-in some nostalgic visuals like a theme, but rather providing an authentic look and feel, the original modes of operation and behavior, or in short: the original, well known and beloved-by-many user experience from Window Media Center. So we've decided to officially release it under the Emby brand and now we are excited to invite you to join the public beta. 7. It appears that any playlist that any user creates is public--all other users can see it. I can appreciate the benefit of a public playlist. I could create a playlist called "Harv's Favorite Horror Films" for example, in case other users are interested in checking out what I like. However, the way most of my users are using playlists is to keep track of things they want to watch in the future. They are typically things that the user has not watched yet, so it's not meant as a recommendation to others, just as a way of them personally keeping track of what they want to watch. Having that kind of playlist be public is of questionable benefit to other users. Additionally, it is not clear when you create a playlist that other users will be able to see it. That has the potential to cause some embarrassment. He hasn't created one yet, but I wouldn't want to see my nephew's "movies to fap to" playlist, for example. If I could make a suggestion, I would suggest associating each playlist with the user who created it, and giving that user the ability to make the playlist private or public. For example, the following two checkboxes could be shown when creating or editing a playlist: Allow other users to see this playlist Allow other users to edit this playlist Initially, both checkboxes would be unchecked. Since another user cannot edit a playlist they cannot see, the second would be allowed to be checked only if the first were also checked. (You could grey it out to make that clear.) Depending on your UI preference, it could also be a drop-down menu. Playlist visibility: (Only me | all users can view | all users can view and edit) Thanks for considering this.

  10. Ok @Lukethank you. I'm guessing this will be a but so I'll try to turn off the trailers to see if it will work. If not then hopefully it's fixed soon.

  11. To clarify: It is planned to make it working on tablets with touch input. What will not be supported is phone screens. In portrait orientation: no way, landscape would work like on tablets but the size is way too small to have any joy with it and adaptions for that are not planned.

  12. That's great to hear. If would be amazing if the new option(s) would match the "These settings affect..." color, which seems to be just fine.

  16. Thanks Luke! To be clear the HDR in Emby looks darker and much more green overall when you compare the images. Also i forgot to mention that standard non HDR or HEVC videos look perfect so it does seem to be the way the Emby video player is handing colours for HDR or 4K HEVC content specifically. Let me know if you need any more detail from my end. Thanks!

  17. The phone shouldn’t need any of that to stream from the server.

  18. Yes, it will be available through the Emby Show plugin for Emby Server. I'll add this episode later today without the adjustments.

  19. I was wondering about that sort of thing but I'm game to try it. Thanks for the heads up! The reason why it's not totally disabled for phones and tablets is that in both cases, there are still cases where it can work well. For example, when I connect my Samsung phone to a TV via HDMI and I connect a USB or Bluetooth keyboard, then it works fine. Similar for tablets: with a keyboard connected it works well - just not with touch.

  21. Not until your first post. When I opened the HDHomerun app (so I could see the address of my tuners) it said it needed to do an update. It also updated the firmware on the tuners, but now my older/original one appears to no longer work --thanks Silicon Dust! Anyhow, things appear to be working now...thank you for the help!!

  22. Currently testing a couple of truehd capable AVRs and learnt something. Allowing WMC to change refresh rate was important (to avoid judder) when AVR (display) was 60hz, at 120hz not an issue either way (maybe because 24 is a better factor of 120 than 60) Some bit streaming truehd content was juddering exceptionally badly at 60hz..no issue at 120hz. (havent got to the bottom of this) regarding bitstreaming vs pcm from what i can tell, if your device can handle the minimal decoding overhead and has HDMI then there is no benefit getting the AVR to decode. And PCM from PC has the benefit of allowing the PC to control sound and play other sound whilst not requiring any decoding capability in the receiver. Bitstreaming is more beneficial when you only have coaxial or other audio connections which dont have audio bandwidth of HDMI. ok thanks wont bother with external player

  25. Not sure what kind of experience you'll get as touch-devices and small-screens are not fully supported (though I did run it on my Android phone to test, it runs and can connect but UI is somewhat garbled). https://github.com/EmbySupport/Emby.WMC.UI/releases#:~:text=Device Support

  27. @LukeHi, I just only installed Version 4.8.0.44 beta yesterday evening. I am pleased to report I have found no problems what so ever other than to pkg install mbedtls from using the old and current community version as a base. Great work Luke, thank you for the work you do. Look forward to test driving the new Stable version.

  30. @rbjtechYes, I agree that to me a drive that keeps loosing sectors is a bad drive because it puts data integrity at risk and for people like us, even though hobbyists, loosing data is just painful and we are willing to spend money to avoid it. I used to have drives that had increasing bad sectors but we are talking way back in the GB size drive and IDE days for me. I have not had that issue in over a decade and for me a failed drive is one that either won't spin up or if it does isn't recognized by the system. I have a lot of USB docks and my biggest "failure" issue in the last decade has been drives loosing their file system when removed or a power failure and the drive showing as RAW or needing initialization. But in these cases that is not an issue with the drive nor it's fault and once I pull the data off with DMDE (the best and only data recovery software I use) simply reformatting or reinitializing them makes everything fine again.

  31. Nothing happens on my AVR with A_DTS. It continues as if its playing but there is no sound. If I ask to correct playback it falls back to remuxing to Dolby 5.1. My AVR is a older Yamaha RX V567, which is connected Arc/Earc to my TV for audio only as it can't handle 4K at all, but plays DTS-MA 7.1 and Dolby TrueHD 7.1 no problem. Is A_DTS a newer codec? that would say why its not recognized. What happened was I ripped two files that both showed mp4a-A9 as the Codec. Both files played as expected, DTS-MA tracks and video. Joined the two files with MKVToolnix and thats where the codec changed to A_DTS, which played only with remuxed audio. I joined the files later with Shutter Encoder and the joined file showed the mp4a-A9 codec which played no problem - sound and video.

  32. Emby Server is in no way picky regarding CPUs. The issue regarding Alder Lake is about media hardware acceleration only. Intel made a larger change for newer GPUs which needs adaption in software and drivers and these are too large and risky to backport to 4.7..

  34. Sometimes I have problems with the App Central version of Emby. Can you try the following: 1.) Shut down Emby Server via App Central. 2.) Reboot. This just makes sure there aren't any errant/zombie processes running when you reinstall (without losing Emby data). 3.) Download the latest version for ASUSTOR here: https://emby.media/download.html 4.) Install it manually (Open App Central, Click on "Management" and then click on the "Manual Install" tab. 5.) Follow the on-screen prompts and it should overwrite your install, but keep the Emby settings/data. If this does not remedy the problem, uninstall Emby from App Central and retry the steps above. If you're still stuck, I think your only recourse is to do what Luke suggested and do a fresh install, though you'll lose your Emby data. I've outlined the steps here: Hopefully that resolves it!

  39. I understand what you mean, but the hurdles are high for any deviations from WMC and there are also some rules that we are following: Deviations from WMC are fine when it's about Emby features for which no matching equivalent exists in WMC (i.e. features that WMC didn't have) Deviations from WMC are also okay when prerequisites are not fulfilled on which WMC could rely on (for example like having an MCE remote with all the buttons, or Emby being client/server or platform not Windows, etc.) Feature requests requiring extra-coding are okay when it's about doing something in a WMC way Not acceptable are requests for features which WMC didn't have and which the regular Emby client doesn't have either We don't want to have any competition in features between the core app and the WMC UI Like in the private beta, the answer will always be: Please request that feature for the regular client, then we can add it to the WMC UI (or it might even become available there automatically) Such strong changes like start menu alterations would require broad consensus from the user base and I think it's a bit too early now to decide or draw a final conclusion on it. Let's see how things develop and what feedback will be given. Thanks

  40. As I see it, this is EMBY UI WMC skin, not WMC, and it doesn't have to be 1:1, 0.99:1 would be just as good and amazing. I'm sure that sacrificing functionality for blindly following design guidelines form 20+ years ago is certainly not something you had in mind when creating this awesome piece; yeah, WMC was way ahead of it's time - but by no means perfect. Setting landing page is something that gets inherited system wide/in other apps (Web App most notably) and is far from satisfactory workaround; moreover, Mixed content libraries have no settable landing page - nor suggestions, for that matter, to continue watching docu movie which was literally last played item, I need 20-30 clicks (as Mixed libraries are under Others) instead of 2-3 - that's not an acceptable trade-off and quite a deal breaker, tbh.

  41. I'm following the thread on github to the Exo Devs - they are aware, have acknowledged the issue and are 'working on it'. A few chases last week, but no news yet. I guess Google need to work with Amazon - so we just need to 'wait'. I solved it by removing the HDR10+ metadata, leaving just HDR10. Now I have no issues with HDR10 or DV+HDR10. As I have no HDR10+ devices anyway (only HDR10 or DV) - this is no big deal for me.

  43. I upvote this as well as I’d like to be able to customize the upper bar in the music section so Artist and genre appear first. Is it really a big issue (just a question not trying to minimize your work) for you to implement it in Emby since it’s been asked for years ?

  45. Till it happens again next time something doesn't get caught in pre-beta testing... I'd suggest that having a way of 'backing up watched status' and other non-recreatable data would be a powerful tool regardless of this issue. Allowing people like me that have been with Emby for going on 20+ years to clean up the flack from years of beta testing... or drop all that watched/etc in the nfo files so it can be scraped if the db gets scrambled. Appreciate the honest answer even if it doesn't help.

  46. Ah, command back! Emby where kicked out of the firewall permissions during several installations and uninstallations, never had this before with other apps. So the latest ARMv8-A package works! Thanks to @DonMacaroniand @Luke!

  47. We are asking for a shortcut key to directly open the osd live tv guide, because neither the standard android app, theater on windows, nor the web app has that! So what should we check when there isn't something to check? The same goes for number input. Your apps have to react on number key codes to navigate thru the live tv guide. You have to code the functionality in your apps before we can try to program our remotes sending the correct key code.
