Would it be difficult to implement a feature to allow transcribing a video podcast to audio-only, for listening on my phone? If a podcast has both audio-only and video formats, I typically choose the video version for archival purposes. When downloading these to my phone, it would be nice if I could choose 'audio only' under the transcribing quality, so I could continue listening with my screen off. I'm sure this would not be a widely used feature, but if it would be trivial to add it would be cool to have.2 points
-
In order to use that feature, your user account must have access - enable this for your user account under its profile settings. and then 'Convert' will be available when you right-click on a title, or use the "..." menu on the details page of a movie. I personally would keep copies next to media files before you go replacing them altogether, just to see if you're happy with it first.2 points

Be able to create playlist based on a certain criteria, like genre and or year, in order to create a dynamic playlist that it refreshes automatically when new content is added. This way you can for example, create a tv comedy playlist from the 90's, or a new sci-fi Movies playlist. Some other criteria for rules could be the rating, watched/unwantched, score, tags, language, audio codec, etc The possibilities could be endless1 point

Guys, The ebook side of Emby/MediaBrowser has been long stalled or rather stagnated. I would like to offer up a couple of suggestions. Many people use calibre as an ebook/comic book tool for scraping data and general management of their collection already. This program is absolutely astonishing in its ability to pull metadata from post calibre scans, as well as draw in metadata from the file source and/or directory structure. http://vaemendis.net/ubooquity/ Its a self contained .jar server/reader combination. And honestly I am very impressed by it's small footprint and wide range of abilities. The other option is COPS , which was written specifically with calibre in mind. It is open source, so making it work with emby I would think would be fairly easy. https://blog.slucas.fr/projects/calibre-opds-php-server/ Ever since the original release of MediaBrowser's bookshelf I have always wanted something that would allow me to 'read' my collection, rather than being basically nothing more than a place-set for images of books I own. I am sure that those who mainly have audiobooks are thrilled with bookshelf , but it's nothing more than an extension of the music library IMHO, not new features. We can have both right? Here I give you two suggestions free of charge.. Just because I love you, and Emby Personally I plan on running the Ubooquity Server along side of Emby from now on, just because of it's massive functionality and tiny footprint. But I sure hope that someone decides -- "yeah, ebook support should be in here too" and do something about it - rather than allow this now very very ancient issue to continue to remain an issue. And so I don't have to have 20 different ports open, some with SSL support - some not, because Emby isn't delivering the 'complete package'. (Please take some of this with humor, I know you have your hands full with improvements/bugs/suggestions/requests)1 point

There are a number of shows that I frequently "Shuffle" with... since I've seen all the episodes, don't intend to acquire more (or if I do I don't care about highlighting them beyond the latest added section), and episodes stand alone well enough to not want/need to watch it in order. Just want to watch a random episode during dinner or something. When I start doing this too much, the Next Up gets very cluttered. If shuffle randomly gives me S04 E05 for a show, I'm not terribly concerned about making sure I watch S04 E06 next. I've tried setting the entire series to Played, as I was hoping if all the "next episodes" were already Played it'd keep it off of Next Up, but no such luck. Would it be possible to disable Next Up for individual shows upfront so they stop showing altogether? By User possibly? Or maybe if I Shuffle specifically, it won't show but playing an episode normally does? Sorry if this is a duplicate, I searched a bit but the closest I could find was "forgetting" a series... which didn't really apply since I never want these shows to come back no matter how much I watch of it.1 point

Not sure if there are actually many people using emby that also read a lot of books. However with Ebooks being a hot thing right now this idea popped into my head. I have a lot of ebooks which I generally keep on my normal PC. However this way it has no back-ups cause I only back-up my server to an external location. So I was thinking about switching them to my server and then I thought I can also put them in the emby folder. The request may be a bit out of the ordinary since emby is more for playing files and things rather than reading, but could a reader be implemented at some point in the future? A book library and an implemented reader, specially for mobile devices I guess (phone/tablet), but perhaps for browser/theater? Would help me get rid of yet another app and have all my "media" in the same place Edit: If you liked this also take a look here for ebook expansion https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/80398-book-serverreader-incorporation-suggestion/1 point

So for video files we can have multiple versions of a single movie or TV show by having an extra bit at the end of the file name. Could the same be done for music? Some of my devices can handle .flac and others can not. Because of this I want to have .mp3 versions for some devices but not have separate CDs listed for each version.1 point

To add more clarity, the Onn Google TV 4K and the Chromecast With Google TV 4K seem to have the same 4-core ARMv8 processor (down to the revision): So, enquiring minds are probably wondering why the Onn Google TV 4K (which works correctly with the sideloaded Emby for Android client v3.3.19) would be any more capable of direct playing AV1 than the Chromecast With Google TV 4K -- when they seem to almost be identical twins (other than the USB port, physical chassis, and remote)...? Also, when the Onn Google TV 4K direct plays the same AV1 2160P content with the sideloaded Emby for Android client (v3.3.19), it uses a similar amount of CPU to the Chromecast With Google TV 4K with the Emby for Android TV client (v.2.0.83g) when it direct plays:1 point

+1 I think a 'Youtube Music' function would be good :-D. It would save on 4G/5G/Data on smartphones and would also be a plus for playback on android auto since video isn't possible. Now I know it won't be feasible overnight, but in the not too distant future it would be great. Good job by the Emby team over the years ;-D.1 point

And some really old TVs that may still be running Android TV instead of Google TV. I assume eventually Nvidia will bow down and convert as well. The image urls are created by the app.1 point

Hello all, Would it be possible in future versions to have an Emby 'audio' player resembling 'Youtube Music', let me explain: I currently have more than 4000 video clips and I would like, when I use my smartphone, to be able to play my video clips in audio only. This will limit the bandwidth used but which would allow me to be able to enjoy audio anyway. I suspect that the implementation of this in emby under Android or even under other support, is not easy, but would this be a possibility? I did a search on the subject in the forum where it is stipulated that it is not planned but its last date a bit and given the evolution of emby, I have a little hope :-D. This could also be interesting for android auto, since some requests I've seen addressed this subject. Thank you for your reply. ps: translation from french to english by google translate1 point

Is there an ETA for some of the basic security improvements ? I believe Emby advised aftert the incident that things like brute force lockout and password strength were now a high priority ? I removed Scripter-X from my install as part of the initial incident investigation - but I used it to log all 'access' to a file which was then scraped for IPBan. So this hasn't been functional since the incident back in May... Ideally, I'd like emby to do this internally - but if it's not coming within a month or so, then I'll have to organise alternative arrangements as the login process for emby remains extremly weak... Thanks.1 point

I've just done it and clicked on The Truman Show grey blob in the original picture and I'm currently looking at the launch page for that movie in Emby so that aspect of it works fine.1 point

First of all, thanks for your patience and thanks for all the logs and testing! Quick disclaimer: I haven't been involved in development of Chromecast support and I don't even own one, so I don't have all answers, but these: The logs have been very useful - thanks for the 1,2,3,4 naming as there's no way to distinguish by target device, because for the server, that is the Android app. The reason why you are seeing two ffmpeg logs in both cases is that once you are skipping forward (like those 30s) and the server hasn't transcoded up to that point, it starts a new transcoding session, starting at the target time (0:00:42 or 0:00:46 in the "second logs" 2 and 4) in order to allow you to continue watching asap. I'm glad that we have reached a point already, where the earlier suspicions have been ruled out, and I can confirm that @ebr is right: there's absolutely no difference between what Emby is doing in both cases (devices): What's happening at the server is precisely the same thing for both devices! (....in the 1234 logs). If you're asking about who might be the culprit, then there are probably some like the following possibilities: Emby has an erroneous ChromeCast implementation, which has been working just accidentally on earlier ChromeCast devices while newer models don't tolerate that error anymore A breaking change has been introduced in the cast protocol - to which Emby hasn't adapted One or more of the newer CC devices have a bug or limited capabilities which causes them to not support the exact same set of capabilities like older devices Either way is possible - I can't tell which one it might be a this time. It's clear that an advertised feature should be working, but I also want to tell you that I don't find it very motivating when you say that the reason why you want this (clearly inferior and clearly just secondary or tertiary choice of method) to be working is to save $5 per month. Yet I still thank you for reporting this issue in all detail. Despite my agnostic state towards CC, I'd have some interesting experiments to try if you like: Skipping within transcode buffer The way of skipping had involved a restart of transcoding in all the examples. It would be interesting to see whether it would work when skipping only within the range of transcoding. For this test, you'd need to: Install the Diagnostics plugin from the catalog Disable Throttling in transcoding settings Test Start playback, but wait a bit longer than 10 seconds - e.g. 5 minutes The Diagnostics plugin adds a new menu "User Sessions" to the Server Dashboard. There you can watch playback sessions and see the current range of the transcoding buffer Try to seek to positions within that range and see whether it works Start Playback with "Resume" This is to test whether playback is working when the initial playback request is not starting at the beginning but somewhere in the middle Test Play the movie in a way which is working (no issue when skipping) for a while Stop playback Try to playback on the new CC device by using "Resume" instead of Play Try to eliminate start_from_zero from ffmpeg commands I'm not sure whether the Diagnostics plugin which is available for the stable version has the ffmpeg command line replacement feature, but in case it does... Test Go to the 'Diagnostic Options' on the Server Dashboard In the ffmpeg parameter replacement text boxes, Enter -start_at_zero in the first one Leave the second one empty Try playback and skipping on the new CC device Thanks, softworkz1 point

@Lukeor someone else my provide a better answer, but to me it looks like the authentication.db is either non-existent or corrupt. IF this truly is your FIRST install of Emby OR you have NO data in the old install that you still want, you can uninstall emby completely, delete the data folders and then reinstall. IF you have old data in EMBY you want to retain, ignore this post and wait for someone else to provide a better solution.1 point

This will take less than 5 minutes to read and will not require high levels of intelligence to understand. In order to use our software, you agreed to abide by our Terms of Service. You also purchased a 1 year Premiere license to access additional features. The Premiere license also gives you the ability to use Premiere features on 25 (weekly rolling) devices. You can have many other devices besides the 25 Premiere license devices. "Emby grants you a personal, non-commercial, worldwide, royalty-free, revocable, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, and non-exclusive license to use the software provided to you by Emby ("Software"). This license is for the sole purpose of enabling you to use and enjoy the benefit of the Software in the manner permitted by these Terms." We are the owners of the software and services that decide how it can and can't be used. We grant you a license to use our software and services, as long as it's used as agreed upon, otherwise we have the right to revoke your license and use of it. Does that answer your question regarding "who are you to judge what I do with this tool"?1 point

So your saying re-broadcasting copyrighted content without a license to do so is legal in your country? I'm sure the big studios/tv networks would disagree about that! Downloading is one thing.. maybe a small fine/slap on the wrist but re-broadcasting copyrighted content without a license is a different story and can lead to a huge fine or some time in jail in most countries. You've got to be intelligent for 5 minutes...1 point

Who cares what I like or don't like? We are talking about respect for the user. See Netflix which is losing thousands of users in France since yesterday following their stupid rule forbidding the connection on multi-site, I really feel that the people who manage Emby are from the same schools. The respect of the user, it is to bring him a solution when he is blocked and that he does what he can to respect an arbitrary rule which does not make any sense. I RESPECT THE RULE. I expect my license to be reactivated immediately.1 point

Emby got removed from the app store for months a while back because someone was caught using it to illegally distribute content. So you're engaging in exactly the sort of illegal distribution the limit is designed to prevent, and you're complaining that the limit is preventing you from continuing?1 point
-

-
Hi. There is no limit on users only devices but 50 users on your server is a bit out of the scope of our design as a personal media server for just your immediate family and close friends. If you are distributing content to that many users it is almost certain that you are violating the terms of distribution of the content and that is the situation we are trying to avoid with the device limits. We could charge money for higher limits but this will open our software up to much easier use as an illegal streaming platform. Such use only ends up hurting us because, eventually, one of those is discovered by content owners and then our name is associated with it and we get accused of running illegal pirating sites. The net result would eventually be that we would be put out of business and no one would have Emby. So, we choose to remain designed as a personal media server. You could convince one or two of these friends of yours to install their own server to serve their families and then this would alleviate the number of users and devices you are directly supporting. Thanks.1 point

Hello Emby, First of all, I'm excited for you. I have searched and tested many programs - Live TV - Series - movies - music - eBooks play. Everything works GREAT except for the eBook Reader! I have tested many programs but EMBY IS THE BEST! Keep it up! Now some questions for you about the eBook Reader. 1. All functions work fine. How much does it cost you to program the eBook Reader? Maybe you can collect donations in this way and you would stand out significantly from the competition. 2. Which programming language does the programmer have to know to program a plugin. You could outsource it and have a user program the plugin externally. You must implement the function as soon as possible. That would make it the PERFECT program. It's enough just that you can read it, without all the frills. It's also a win for you if you offer something like this and the competition doesn't. I mean, all other functions work yes.1 point
-
I support the suggestions to build this feature into EMBY. It would be very valuable. With most music albums offered in a digital format along with digital PDF booklets, it would be nice to have a program that could both play the music and display the booklet about the music right there on the same page (rather than have to download the PDF booklet from a separate EMBY PDF library). And books, of course. Getting a reader function implemented has an additional perk for the developers since it could give EMBY a competitive edge on similar media servers.1 point

I work in post production and anything we do, the Aspect Ratio has to be original. I understand that some users, who have a large TV, like to have the screen filled and they maybe don't notice any aspect ratio stretching. There is some lessor known history of this debate. Cable companies can build into their boxes flip aspect ratio. They used to have that available on the remote. They have taken it off in 2016 because they got too many support calls from users who can't remember how to flip it back. Software players like VLC has a built in zoom function that flips to other Aspect ratios. Ironically it's probably mostly used to correct Aspect ratio problems, rather than fill the screen. Browser video playback supposidly can take video content and stretch or squash it with CSS styles. I never found a video codec that let me do that. All my style change tweaking just changed the overall video size. What's interesting here, is I have never seen this done online. Has anyone in the forum, found this option working anywhere online? TV manufacturers just don't bother offering this option at all. A zoom function would need to rescan and blur some pixels into larger or smaller pixel groups. The quality of the focus, details in blacks, color edges would all drop dramatically. If any TV was running with zoom turned on in a store, their sales for that model would drop, because any TV next to it, that ran the correct size, would look much better. TV manufacturers believe if a user wants to see widescreen movies at a particular size and height, they can just buy a larger TV. It's rather easy, although a blow to your budget, to get 85" diagonal. Exactly how big do you want that movie to be on your wall? Having been paid to get video content perfect, I personally cannot watch anything with a wrong Aspect Ratio. I can spot if it is off by a couple of pixels. It's like fingernails on the chalkboard for me. I also cannot listen to music on 2" speakers or watch anything that is not color balanced or at an incorrect speed. My soundmeister and editing training forces me to only buy expensive quality gear or don't bother. It's tough and tends to ding my wallet. It's fine if the feature to change Aspect Ratio is turned on, if it can work. It could be nice for myself, if I want to fix a incorrect AR. I bet you will get many more support requests how to turn the damn thing off!1 point
-
So he can watch them in reverse order? If that's the case how does "shuffle play" come into it? I guess I am confused...1 point

I certainly agree that audio and video are more important than ebooks, given that audio and video are what Emby is all about. That said, audio and video work perfectly for me and for many users, so if I were the project manager my thought would be that this is a good time to give a little love to other functionality. (Honestly, I don't care about live TV. I don't use it and don't intend to. I don't know if I'm odd in that regard or not, but when I turn on the TV I am far more likely to watch Emby than CNN.) The 3 areas of functionality I see that aren't entirely up to snuff from my perspective are books, video games, and remote use of Emby. I'm not quite sure how video games would work and I'm not sure Emby can do much about remote use given that Emby doesn't control the Internet router or firewall, so that leaves books. (I suspect Photos could use a little love too, but it works and I haven't paid a lot of attention to how it could be improved.) I am presently trying to group many ebooks into a collection with the related videos. In Calibre it's very easy for me to search the books, they're grouped as a "Series" of the collection name I am filling, so I can search on the series name in Calibre and I get them all. Emby doesn't integrate with Calibre, so when I search for them in Emby I don't get most of the books, because Emby only looks at the title, so I have to search up each book separately in Emby and add it to the collection. Another problem I am having is that Emby is pointed at my Calibre collection, and in cases where Calibre has more than one format of the book (most of my ebooks, because Calibre does conversions and I've changed reader devices several times over the years) Emby doesn't recognize that the ebooks have a cover image (even though it's in the folder with the name "cover.jpg") so either I have to manually add the cover to the books or delete formats I'm not using at the moment. I see this as a bug. Also while Emby allows you to group videos (for example) together when you have more than one copy of the same video (for example, The Avengers in 720p, 1080p, and 3D could be listed as one item with one poster), when you have more than one version of an ebook, all versions are listed separately and you can't group them. As I have up to 5 different versions of some books (and most of my ebooks are in multiple formats), my ebook collection looks very cluttered (and mostly without covers, although mostly they're there) in Emby. Here's my perspective: When I am at the TV, I choose to use Emby. When I am sitting at my server (which, being a normal person, is my desktop), I find the video or audio in the file structure and watch it with VLC, find the photo and open it with Windows Photos, and use Calibre for my ebooks. I would like Emby to be good enough that when I'm at my server I don't find it easier to go into the file system, find the file, and use a specialized program on it.1 point

From my understanding, The bookshelf plugin was end of lifed when the bookshelf was added into Emby. I have asked this questions a few times in the past and the bookshelf features are on the list of this that are coming but are not a high priority. Currently with the bookshelf, you can add your files (E-books or Comics) and Emby will show them but you are not able to read or View them via the app or browser it will give the ability to download the file so you can use another app to view the media. Also it has no way to read local metadata or scrape for current metadata. This is the one feature I feel is missing that would make Emby feel fully for a media server.1 point
