Installed Emby in a CentOS VM. Browsed to the IP and did the setup wizard. Created a LOCAL user and logged in. Made a port forward with source IP filtering for trusted networks. (mobile devices will use VPN) It works. Without phoning home or a bunch of other BS. Thank you. I'm not entirely sure why I waited this long to switch from Plex.3 points

I seem to be having the same problem, it's been working fine for months but over the last week it has started failing. I agree with the recommendation of a reverse proxy. On Windows it doesn't get any easier than Caddy which has the added benefit of automatic cert renewal. Pretty much everything you're looking for.2 points

With a reverse proxy Emby do's not need to be restartet. The cert. is served by the proxy. There are some really good guides in the emby forum in order to find out more2 points

Support for WMC Remote Controls As discussed earlier above: I have good news for all of you who are still having a WMC remote around (or having a programmable remote and the WMC IR receiver) I was able to incorporate support for WMC remotes - which means that all buttons are functional, including Ch+/-, Info, Guide, Recorded TV, Movies, Music, etc. It is using the WebHID API, which is currently supported by Chrome, Edge and Opera. While the API is platform-independent, I'm not sure whether the receiver would work on non-windows with generic HID class drivers, so it's probably limited to Windows.2 points

I just want to bring up attention to AV1 as additional target codec for transcoding and comverting video. It's supposed to further reduce bitrates, which can be great in situations with limited bandwidth. Hardware players start to have support, with the Max version of Amazon's 4k FireTV sticks being a very popular and cheap option. Hardware Encoding is coming for sure too. So if/when HEVC gets added for transcoding, AV1 should be kept in mind too. And for conversations, things might actually be already there, since ffmpeg does have a encoder integrated.1 point

Hi, I would like to have an option to choose H265 instead of H264 in the Transcode option. It will be smaller for all bad bandwidth (2~5Mbit ADSL), but will have a great quality. Mobile phone can benefit of it greatly too with the 4G and the limitation of download.1 point

Library scan running tasks are lacking in their progress reporting. This is most apparent after a fresh install of Emby on a large library, particularly containing many TV episodes. The scan tasks seems to almost immediately skip to the high 80s percentile before it actually starts adding files to the library. The scan task has been running for 2 days straight and has gone up a few percentage points to 90.2% at this point. Would be much better if it reported a more accurate percentage. Alternatively, a count of the number of directories or files it's scanned vs remaining. Currently under 3.6.0.1-beta.1 point

As I mention in a related post, I love the additional subfolders for Movie Extras (eg, Shorts, Scenes, Interviews, etc.)! It would be awesome to extend this functionality to TV Series as well. Specifically to add support for many/all of the same folders supported for Movie Extras, eg, extras specials shorts scenes featurettes behind the scenes deleted scenes interviews trailers As well as any additional folders that get added in the future (eg, hopefully Galleries). Support Placement of "Extras" Folders Within Each Season Folder, Plus A Naming Scheme to Link A Particular Extras Folder with a Specific Episode (eg, "\Season 1\E1 - Deleted Scenes\" for episode 1 deleted scenes): I want to clarify that it would be great if these various "extras" folder types could reside within each Season folder. So for example, within a Season 1 folder we could then have an "Extras" folder, a "Deleted Scenes" folder, a "Featurettes" folder, etc. And furthermore, that we could designate a particular folder to refer to a specific episode (eg, "\Season 1\E1 - Deleted Scenes\" for episode 1 deleted scenes). See more below, particularly why I think this would be so useful: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/55915-emby-server-theater-additional-extrasspecial-folder-types-for-tv-series-similar-to-movies/&do=findComment&comment=587195 Thanks for your consideration! PS - If this is something you might like to see implemented, be sure to "Like" this top/first post (as well as any subsequent posts in this thread that highlight particular aspects of what you are interested in) -- "Liking" the top/first post helps the Devs to know how much interest there is in a given Feature Request.1 point

Request that Emby server store Dolby Vision (including profile), Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, HDR10+ (smpte2094) and HLG for appropriate video in the db and use it for display in the media info and track selection sections of movie/episode details screen. This information once in the db can then also be used in numerous other areas like: Mediainfo Cover Art, Stats for Nerds, Distinguishing different DV profiles for hardware support and tone mapping Example Mediainfo app display of HDR10+ ffmpeg patch for HDR10+ https://patchwork.ffmpeg.org/patch/11491/ Related requested that may require DV profile information in order to prevent unneeded TM1 point

Can you add playlist support to the sync and download option? The feature is awesome for movies, but for music it needs to have a way to play a playlist. I wanted to use the sync and download for music to not use my phone data, I normally use all in 2 weeks. I use Emby on my phone and then I connect it to the car to listen to music.1 point

For those of you who are looking for a self-hosted solution to audiobooks there is an answer. I recently discovered AudiobookShelf and it is great. Even has a dedicated iOS and Android apps.1 point

Dankeee1 point

This is for Emby Theater for Tizen and iOS. It seems all these recent updates are to “clean up” the OSD etc. Well, there is tons of room now that you have removed the poster from the video details screen, so can we please get the “Ends at” time back on details? Makes absolutely no sense that that it was removed in the first place. I realize it can be seen after the video is playing by pressing down to get to video info but the whole point is to see if you have time to watch the video BEFORE you start it! Seems pretty straightforward. thx!1 point

Thanks for the tips, I set up using Caddy, this is really the best solution.1 point

Here are some information: As soon as I'm satisfied with the implementation, I'll report all my "custom" API's. However, as mentioned in the thread posted. A basic implementation, doesn't need any (API) modifications on Emby server. It just uses the session API controls.1 point

I came back to Emby recently after having gone back to Plex for awhile. This time I'm throwing in the towel on Plex for good and came back with a lifetime subscription. Plex has gotten too bloated, buggy, crashed, had nothing but trouble. The added audiobook support is huge and I really appreciated the help and discussion in this thread. I wanted to add my support that I'd love a way to auto-organize and filter by Series. Right now I make manual collections for Series which gets the job done, but an automated solution would be huge. Appreciate all the great work and support you all do for Emby and the community. It's my all-in-one home media home now :)1 point

I just noticed that it shows up if you turn it to a horizontal view. It's not available in vertical view though.1 point

You can install an reverse proxy to get around that. The cert is renewed by certbot within the reverse proxy, if it runs in a vm or docker. Just set Emby "Secure connection mode" to Handled by reverse proxy. With a reverse proxy you only need to open port 80 and 443 in your router. The reverse proxy will then " when setup correctly " redirect requests to Emby port 8096 or 8920.1 point

When I was looking for a Windows Media Center alternative 4 years ago I installed Plex.....it only took me one afternoon of tinkering before I was looking for an alternative....it's ugly and clunky as a default install....found emby that evening, installed it....and by the next day I had deleted Plex and never looked back. In the interim I have tried others as a curiosity but there is nothing that compares to emby. Even with the issues that emby has it is still the best thing I have found. I run the beta as my default testing server and the support team here is TOP NOTCH and respond so quickly to issues they never last long enough to be a hinderance. Thanks for 4 years.....I've learned a lot and use emby every day and my special needs boy loves it and I finally have my wife interested after 4 years since she discovered how much content I have...LOL.1 point

Regardless of the method you use to get the cert you will have to restart Emby. The certs are only loaded on startup. And if I read your post correctly the web root needed is certbot's, not Emby's. Certbot controls and validates the http endpoint.1 point

As a European, I agree we need a feature to keep the original title. I speak and live in an English speaking country, but I watch movies from other European languages like French and German... But the movie titles in English half the time don't translate well1 point

Thank you for your answer. I use Google Translator, so some words will be very strange to translate. It seems that someone deliberately cheated me to refund 'emby' to buy 'plex' subscription. Thank you again for your answer. Have a nice day1 point

There are announcements for each version. Or you can look at GitHub for general changes. Releases · MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases (github.com)1 point

But there does need to be a distinction, because the login screen and access changes based on local/remote context. I wouldn't want to lose that.1 point

I do have it enabled for Top Picks only. I don't use nfo's for my main library's.1 point

Agreed about the series. Also agreed about the reverse engineering stance, I suspect most here knew that was the case anyway. The big question, asked numerous times in this thread, is when it might get implemented. I realize you probably don't have a good answer for that, which frustrates some. Particularly since it has existed for several years in Emby competitors.1 point

YES please, the choise of "Keeping original title" would be nice. Even if you set the download language to something else. It's a long time since I used Kodi, but I'll think I remember they have this choice :-)1 point

OK yes this has come up before and is something that can be added in future updates. Thanks.1 point
