Possibly (I think the OP has this set to Auto ?) - but it's the pic below that is confirming the Roku thinks it's connected to SDR display (the Balun). The Balun spec clearly says it supports all forms of HDR and looks to be a suitable - but until the Roku (the emby client) says it's supports HDR 9and direct play) - it's going to transcode.2 points

I suspect this nonchalant attitude about "perceived" vulnerabilities with Emby might be what's driving development decisions with Emby. If developers don't think it's a big deal for someone to brute force their way into Emby then I suspect (please correct if I am wrong), security doesn't seem to be on the forefront of decisions concerning Emby and THAT is a big deal. If MFA is not a concern or even on the radar, what other vulnerabilities exist with Emby? Is anyone even looking or care for that matter?2 points

Some interesting comments on this long running thread. (started 2018..) As a network/security person - I see both sides of the debate - but fundamentally the 'layers' of security that emby has 'out the box' are imho very lacking in 2023. No enforcing https, no password complexity checks, no user lockouts, admin account is exposed to the web etc - basic stuff that any internet facing application should have years ago .. So once THAT is all sorted - then we can move to the next layers of Infosec - which include Authentication - but it is not the 'failsafe' that many think it is. As expressed above, if a vulnerability is found - then it's all irrelevant. Anybody serious about Infosec will be running Emby behind a series of other security services - such as Reverse Proxies, IPS, multiple firewalls, Geo/IP blacklist-IP blocking, isolated dmz network etc etc all with full monitoring and alerting - but realistically, are we expecting emby to have this just so your Parents can watch a film - of course not. Maybe this topic should be about emby 'security' in general, but I would love to see the basic stuff done first - not because I personally need it, but because I see the need to better protect those that are EXPECTING a level of basic security to be provided when they tick the 'Remote Access' box in emby.2 points

Could the way User Settings are handled be changed so that: 1 - Every setting that is changed via the Admin/Server - Users settings page becomes the new default for that particular user (instead of the Emby supplied default). 2 - Any setting that is changed appropriate for an end user to change from within that particular user account being signed in is saved at the local device level, and would be used instead of Server specified defaults. This wouild: A - Allow us to adjust the default behavior when NO local settings exist. B - Still have local device specific settings override what have been set as Server defaults. (Allowing the same User to have different settings per Device - as it is now.) It doesn't seem like the logic would be that much different than it is now. Assuming if no local settings already exist today, the Server has to pass along what it has them as for a starting point. The change wouild just be allowing us to alter what any of those base default settings are.1 point

Plex has it built in that you can have it setup to use SSL without having to create and install your own certificates. They teamed up with Let's Encypt. Any chance you would make that an option on Emby. Even if it was just for those that pay for Emby Premier.1 point

The matrix plugin specifically is maintained by another emby (linked in that thread) user but can be retrieved from his GitHub page and installed easily enough. EDIT: For an action to be instigated after X specific times you could leverage fail2ban.1 point

It would be great to have this sort order even without taking future episodes into consideration. Sorting by date added is mostly fine, but it's quite silly to see some old show that you added recently on the top of the list among currently airing series.1 point

As someone whos running Emby Server in a Windows VM in HyperV. These things will help your performance greatly! GPU passthrough is going to be your friend for making transcoding fast. (otherwise its all gonna be on your CPU and its gonna be bad) You can pass multiple GPUs to a VM. The Emby Server (especially if you have a large amount of media) VM is going to want to live on an SSD and have its virtual swap (in VM settings) set to a different disk. This should also not be the same place where your library is stored. I recommend having the cache folder on a separate virtual disk on a separate SSD, this allows for transcoding to cache a bunch ahead without impacting IO of pulling media from your array or accessing the metadata and Emby databases. (This made a huge difference in performance) My VM is 4 Cores and 12GB memory. Here is a link with info for setting up GPU passthrough: https://www.techtarget.com/searchvirtualdesktop/tip/Running-GPU-passthrough-for-a-virtual-desktop-with-Hyper-V#:~:text=VM -GuestControlledCacheTypes %24true-,The new method of assigning a GPU to a Hyper, that you plan to allocate. (Note, this will keep that GPU from being available to the base HyperV server.)1 point

In the past this already happened to a few different files. Always 4k, always HDR. I just tried it with a video file that seems to have the same encoding "profile" and also encountered a sudden stop, this time right after a few seconds. Trying a file with a different "profile" has no issues at all. Since there is no issue when transcoding it seems like a problem with that specific "profile".1 point

I had somewhat trouble understanding your query, but assuming I did understand it correctly: likely because Android app is Direct Playing while Android TV app and Web app require transcoding. In any case, exact examples together with server log will be needed.1 point

It is not dramatic to understand that there are entities looking for entry points into any network be they cameras, Exchange servers, IoT devices, routers, or Emby. It is truly insane that there still exist tech-oriented individuals that don't acknowledge that this is a real issue and that it is industry standard to mitigate via 2fa. It isn't for no reason that major government entities, medium-large companies, and every company I've ever worked for regardless of size require 2fa on any entry point into our network. Aside, believing that a compromised app doesn't pose a risk to the rest of your network is also a bit strange. Vulnerabilities are often unknown until after they've been exploited, and maybe not even then. It's not so terrible to not have something that should exist, but it is concerning that it isn't acknowledged as important or a priority.1 point

I know very well how painful it is when you lose your time-shift buffer and you're unable to continue watching as expected. TVnext will be able to do a number of very cool things in this area which are on a quite different level, but there's something that even TVnext cannot do: It cannot read users' minds and intentions. The issue you encountered is not about any technical limitations - it's a decision-making problem. The will always get into situations where it needs to make certain decisions without actually knowing what the user are expecting it to do. In this case, the question is rather simple: Is the user still active and wants to continue watching or did she/he just leave while paused without hitting stop? I can't say for sure what really happened in your case, but my latest state of knowledge was that paused transcodings are terminated after like an hour or so of inactivity. This would match your case and probably (I might be wrong) - that's what Luke meant by "it can be addressed". Now, the timeout could be simply increased - but that might affect other use cases. Or the timeout can be increased only for Live TV - maybe. Typically something like that will be done to "address" this. TVnext will have the same kind of problems just at a different complexity level. For example: A server has 3 tuners, each of them currently in use. T1: UserA and UserB watching different Live channels (on the same frequency, so they can share T1). T2. An ongoing recording and UserC watching the same channel that is being recorded. T3: UserD - had started watching but has paused for 1h while the time-shift buffer is still being filled. This is a situation that is working, but tuners are "overbooked" and decision-making can get quite difficult as soon as one of the following this would happen: UserB switches to a channel on a frequency that no tuner is currently receiving => What should happen? The recording on T2 is finished, another recording is scheduled on a different frequency? => What should happen? Another user, UserE wants to watch a channel, on a different frequency => What should happen? For all cases, the possible resolutions are almost the same; Cut off UserA from showing live tv (maybe due to lowest permission level Disallow UserB to switch to another channel Stop the recording Cut off UserC from live tv Cut off UserD from live tv and drop the time-shift buffer Such situations cannot be addressed with timeouts. TVnext has priority/permission levels for users and for recordings (depending on who scheduled it). But such permission levels do not help much to resolve those kind of conflict situations to everybody's satisfaction. They only help to determine who will ultimately win if he/she wants to win. But the one with the highest permission level will not always want to win. Maybe another family member is watching something and the one with the higher permission might just want to tune into a channel quickly but wouldn't want the other family member's session to be ended due to it. But nobody may even know from each other and that somebody else is watching or an important recording is going on that shouldn't be stopped. Neither can the server know. The best way to handle such conflict situations with minimal collateral dissatisfaction is for the server to become a bit more "chatty" and talk to the active users, asking what they want to happen. WMC did something like that at a small scale. Many will probably remember the message "The channel is about to change to Chx in order to record XXX" and you could either confirm or cancel or do nothing and the channel will eventually be switched. Showing such message ombination with something like "Are you still watching" and a bit more - that's the goal to achieve. Initially there will have to be a permission-based decision making as client need to be updated. Doing this nicely is quite a challenge but eventually still much easier than trying to make automated decisions which would often be wrong and very annoying. The same problem exists here at a very small scale? When to abandon a paused live tv session? No matter how you choose the timeout, it will always be wrong for somebody.1 point

Bumping this topic up again. Emby needs a way to display and allow for media deletion of duplicates. I keep a Plex docker container on standby and fire it up every few weeks to check for duplicates. It takes 23.6 GB (and growing) of drive storage just to have that container on standby for the duplicates detection feature. Granted there are more cumbersome ways of finding duplicates outside of Plex but nothing is as elegant or simple as Plex's method. Surly the Emby dev's can build something to show duplicates of TMDB or IMDB codes and provide a delete button or a trash can for safe measure.1 point

That would be a great feature. Because at the moment every new user has not activated the "backdrop" function by default. It would be very good if I could turn on the "backdrop" feature by default for all users.1 point

Yes we need to get it directly onto the detail screen like our other apps, but until that time, it's still accessible under that button.1 point

Not really the Trailer but there is a Plugin for that to play a trailer or short scene from the movie in the background. It is called "Movie Theme Videos"1 point

Here are some screens from what my emby theater looks like now, a frontend for pc games.. I would like to keep both my movies and my games, but as the games external launcher isn't working right now, I've decided to replace the movies library as games are more important to me. Let me know what you think of it, those game covers 90% I have to deep search the web to find the ones without those marks of PC-CDROM and PEGI stuff, It took time but i managed to make a collection, at the moment are 1228 posters just like those without marks, not only for pc games but also for PSX PS2 GC Wii WiiU and others, let me know if you have interest on them, I could share, its all on my OneDrive. Later today I'll post a video launching a game.1 point

Ok i did it, its working i can launch PC GAMES from emby theater but.. i had to replace the movies section with games, so instead of opening real .wmv files with vlc, i renamed my scripts to .wmv and made them open with AutoHotkey as external launcher, so the emby theater thinks my 1kb .wmv files are movies then he add them to the movies library so i can open the with the external player autohotkey, that launch the command that its inside the fake .wmv file that as a example could be "run D:\Games\Resident Evil 4\bio4.exe" this fake .wmv its just a .txt with the file extension renamed, so when a head to the movies section my PC GAMES show there as the movies, so when i press play autohotkey launch my desired game for me. But this its just a proof that it works, i've tried as emulator, and as a pc game on emby but when i try to launch it says something about insert a disc to play, i dont know maybe the games external players of emby its broken, you guys could test and tell me if this method Works for you with game external player, because i've have to use the movies external player to make it work.1 point
