  1. Good day, I will explain and clear the confusing and misunderstanding about the group "Member". 1 - When you register at Emby Community support forum, you place at that group, from 0 to 25 posts you are "Member", when over 25 posts you will move to the group "Members". We have other groups as well, but our subject here the "Member" group with 0 post. 2 - Why sending "Force Password Reset" for that group and ONLY with zero post: We notice for the past month that some groups of spammers posting from these accounts, as we all know, many using same email/username/password in multi sites, and if one of these sites get breached and info get published on the net, any spammers can use that. either to spam any community or worst, attacking the members here with any posts they made, these kind of spammers do not care if they get banned or not. Any community faced that, normal will ask their members to force change their password, in OUR case here, the "Member" group with ONLY zero post. 3 - Why now start to deleting accounts for "Member" group with ONLY zero post from year 2013 to 2017: We notice from many replies when we did the force password reset, that many do not know if they ever had accounts here, In this deleting steps, we want to make sure that whom register here are the real user, not someone else using their info. After many confusing, I hope this thread clear the matters. Thanks all. My best

  2. You are mixing custom metadata path and custom cache path. You have custom metadata path set on G drive - or faulty db entries pointing to it.

  3. How's it going, we get this out yet? I have a suspicion that the new Android app being reworked to replace our beloved ATV app doesn't allow for seeking in LiveTv due to this being incorporated into the server (#66 in the ET for Android and ET for Windows UI - Match Android TV App thread). I could be wrong, but it makes some sense from a development point of view. Anyhow, been a while since I complained.

  4. I installed Jellyfin alongside Emby last night (Emby was there first, on Win 11, and exactly the same library of movies and tv shows), and I noticed 3 things that made me decide not to use it, straight away: 1. It took a very long time for JF to scan my library. Emby was much faster. 2. Folder size. Emby's data at "AppData/Roaming/Emby-Server" folder : 548 MB while JF's data at "Jellyfin/Server" - 2.16 GB. That's huge difference! So I looked a bit deeper and found the metadata folder took 2 GB with: Jellyfin/Server/metadata/library - 1.14 GB Jellyfin/Server/metadata/people - 881 MB While Emby's library folder is only 30 MB and people folder only 5.97 MB. I don't know, maybe I miss something here? 3. JF has a bug on its home regarding Latest TV Shows. My "Latest TV Shows" only show 1 item. It turns out that if you add a TV Show with more than 150 episodes (CMIIW), then only that show is displayed in the "Latest TV Shows". The problem exists since 2019 and still not resolved until this day. https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin/issues/1880 https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin/issues/2711#issuecomment-792580526 For me Emby is the clear winner.

  8. Please keep this in mind. There are several different feature requests here in the forums concerning users and groups. There are also other requests that would become much easier to implement when you can treat 20 people as one entity applying something once, not 20 times. We realistically wouldn't do a rewrite being narrow focused looking at only 1 or 2 requests when we could build a solution that allows 20 feature requests to be handled. (Numbers are examples only). While this request could be done a couple of different ways using groups is the cleanest method as it also brings a lot of potential for new functionality as well. Think about it this way. Look at the way a network admin would setup accounts. They would create groups for a specific purpose. A simple example is having 100 users and departments for IT, accounting, PR, sales, management, finances, reports, etc. Then there might be groups for win10, win11, linux, mac, android, ios, etc.. A new user is added to the system and is added to any group that applies to the user. There is no need to try and give specific access at the micro level when an admin can change permissions for a group and anyone a member of the group gets the new access. How that relates to Emby is similar. You could have groups that represent a family. You could have a group for your household, a group for your brother, one for your sister's household and 2 groups for neighbors. You create groups for adults, kids, anime, documentaries, camera, home-movies, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Halloween, etc. You assign users to a family group if it applies and then add them to any "media group" that applies. Now library management gets easier for many things. You can have a library just for Christmas movies or Halloween movies that's always present on your system but instead of having to edit 50 users before Christmas to give them access and then again after Christmas removing them (lot of work) you instead edit the "Christmas group" and give it access to the Christmas library and poof everyone get's access. Same with removing access. People have wanted "templates" to use for access writes so they could pick a template and create a user. That's great for upfront setup but doesn't help moving forward. Groups on the other hand allow you to create a user add them to a template or set of groups like I just described and stay easy to manage. The same goes for groups you create for other things like downloads, conversions, transcoding. Right now, if you wanted to see what users have access to your adult library or kids library you would have to check every user. With a group you just look at a list of group members. In the case of family groups your sister might have a shield in the living room, roku in the kitchen and master bedroom as well as two tablets. You add those devices to the family group as the only devices to be used and it applies to the whole family. Any member can use any device but no other devices. You can add 3 other people to their account if asked so the 3 babysitters can log in but only using these approved devices. You control the number of devices you let them use while not really caring about the number of people using the devices. With the use of the group each family can see their own quick logins but not see anyone else that isn't in their group. Your family will only see accounts from the household and not from other households, etc It sounds complicated at first but actually makes things easier (code and management) once the group concept is in place.

  10. Inspired by a Reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/r/jellyfin/comments/hypjuo/jellyfin_icon_thumbs/). The thread was old, and didn't necessarily have what I wanted. So I dug open Photoshop and found some images I liked. I was a fan of the generated images, but started to find it cluttered. Not sure on the licensing for the images, so there's that.

  11. In my house, I would like to see a User Profile selection similar to Netflix. Using my single logon, I would like my family to choose between who is watching. That way each of us can watch shows without marking it watched for someone else. In this scenario, I would have a 4 users in a Family Group using the same username/password.

  13. I've read this a couple of times and still not sure I understand. The thread is talking about using Emby Connect as well as using a domain name. Typically, with a domain name there isn't a need to setup users with Emby connect unless a particular user has access to a few Emby Servers and wants a central login that allows access to each server from one login. Otherwise, normal users using your Emby Server can access your server directly using "subdomain.domain.ext" which you setup pointing directly at your WAN IP, then forwarding the one port Emby uses on the router to the Emby Server. It's confusing when I read without internet the customer is connected to the server directly through the local domain. The only way that can happen is if they are on the same LAN as the Server itself, otherwise there is Internet of some kind that is being routed or tunneled in some way. This of course is just a local environmental configuration/setup that needs to be adjusted. Instead of trying to answer hypothetical questions of x or y can be done we instead find out exactly how the Ops local environment is setup, and what the Op is trying to accomplish. Once we understand both the current environment as well as expected outcome we can recommend possible changes as well as the best way to setup and configure Emby. @Alezani2022 can you elaborate a bit on your current environment as well as any private address spaces, NATs, and/or routing you have in place as well as any VPN or tunneling being used? Try to answer these questions the best you can and just let us know if you don't know what any of the things being asked mean. Do you currently have your own domain name (we don't need to know it), yes or no? If so do you have a subdomain entry setup and pointed at your WAN IP address with router forwarding to Emby Server? If yes, are you using a certificate for the domain to use encrypted traffic? Do you run a local reverse proxy server or any type of load balancer? Are you using IP4, IP6 or hybrid IP addressing? Looking forward to your responses, Carlo

  14. I suppose that's 14TB? Yeah, that can take time. If you have all NFOs/artwork stored with your media - disable all internal scrapers or kill server internet connection altogether, that initial import will be much faster that way.

  17. After a long time I installed Emby on my TrueNAS Scale Server yesterday and I am positively surprised at first sight. The AppleTV app seems to me to be much better than it was before. I have only tried out a little. So far music and photos seem to be running fine. That was not the case before. Especially with my Flac library, the app had sometimes behaved strangely. That no longer seems to be the case. Photos: - It would be nice if the AppleTV app could also use the metadata or tags that Emby now reads out: - The photo slideshows are good. It would be nice if you could also add music to them.

  19. I need to add that this isn't a problem with Emby but a limitation of the inotify API which is kernel based and does not detect changes made on network shares. In those cases it's the host exporting those shares that detects the change on storage local to itself. It's a limitation of the kernel/OS.

  23. I second this. Having it set up as plex or netflix where one household has a "master" account and can add users as they see fit under it would improve the experience of sharing emby tenfold. As it is now, if one of my users need a separate account for their partner the user has to ask me to set it up. Would be lovely to just give access to the server to a family and then they can set up their household as they see fit. Now I basically have to micromanage 5+ families user accounts. A lot of posts here about the ease of signing in and switching user, and this would certainly help with that, but I see this as more of a user management problem. Could be somewhat solved by giving some users access to create and edit other users (probably only users that account has created), but not any more admin privileges. Though this is far from as elegant as the groups cayars are describing above. As of now I have to give away admin privileges to everything if I want someone else to be able to add users.

  24. good day ! So, as for Avatar - The Way of the Water, even though I have a quite good Home Theater setup, I had to go see it in a cinema. Without spoiling anything, I'd say the movie is worth watching and obviously paying to watch it. The main story, and plot, isn't something you've never experienced before, but the Visual, and Audio effects, are next to perfect. The film, is PURE EYECANDY !

  25. Just unbelievable ... I know reading is hard but really ... At no point I blamed Emby or Luke, I'm sorry that you can't read and understand how things works. You reported an issue, it was fixed. You say there's still an issue but do not provide anything to be able to solve it. The only thing you provide did not show any issue. It's like you are driving your car on the road and call the mechanic to tell that you car does not start. For the last time there's no fucking magic in applications ... 26. Just to be clear: I'm not talking about theory. I had seen and experienced that when working on multi-value support for ID3 tags. I had tried and compared a number of tagging tools, including Picard and it was pretty confusing how the different tools are showing the data.
    1 point
  27. You cannot trust anything you see! Let's stick to "Queen" and "David Bowie" The bottom line is that whatever a tool shows, doesn't say anything about how the data is stored. All combinations are possible, so you cannot make any assumptions from what a tool shows you, unless you have exact knowledge how it works and how it shows the data in which cases.

If there is, I might assume it is in the 'Post-processing application:' section...? 43. @Luke, @K22R8CT, I looked into this issue again and found out a possible solution : I modified my nginx configuration and added a new location targeting the path used to retrieve hls chunks (emby/videos). I copied/pasted the config for my root location and simply added the following : location /emby/videos { proxy_pass <your Emby server url>; ## Enter the IP and port of the backend emby server here. [...] # usual nginx config as found in this forum proxy_hide_header Cache-Control; # remove any cache header that the server initially sets (-> public) add_header Cache-Control "private, no-transform"; # specify that the response must be private to the origin (proxys cannot store in their cache) and cannot be modified along the way } So far, videos that were failing previously are now stable on Mac OS Safari and iOS Safari but maybe those additional cache directives may have other negative impacts... I'm not a proxy expert but at least, they are strictly limited to hls chunks. Hope this helps !

  44. I've been reading through this thread for abit and wanted to add my input. I've used Plex for over a decade, started to have issues with it lately so looked at emby, after some people in the discord which I originally didn't realise was unofficial told me to "use jellyfin it's better" I decided to try both out after a few weeks of trying them both out on different devices I can say emby just works better, jellyfin is fine if you want free software and only use your browser, but it's slow and clunky, the android TV app is a mess and the Dev for that closes bug reports claiming they are intended features. So I have 0 hope of that improving and the mobile android app is also just a buggy mess. Multiple times on jellyfin I've had the apps crash or have playback errors because for some reason the jellyfin server couldn't even encode audio or subtitles, on a 3.6Ghz 32 core server it struggled to encode subs or audio. Or it would just stop playing mid movie or TV show. Not once has any of these issues happened to me on emby, yes it's closed source, yes it's not free, but why are people so against paying Devs for their time? I wonder if those same people are against paying any other employee for their time and think everyone should just work for free. @Cheesegeezermakes a really awesome plugin which I must admit I love as it gives my home theatre a more cinema esq vibe. And if jellyfin being a fork of emby is what emby was like years ago, then I think the Devs have came a really long way and made a lot of improvements over the years, and they deserve to be rewarded/paid for that, so well done to them for both the work they've done and having the guts to say enough is enough and making there code closed source and making some money from their hard work Oh and to the guy who originally made this thread, thanks you really pulled everyone together but your definitely not an award winning designer and from a purely marketing perspective (now I only work in marketing I'm not claiming to be some super awesome award winning marketer because I'm not) your "improvements" to the look of emby from what I can see in your screenshots are outdated and horrible. From a marketing point of view the reason why rounded edges and glossy highlights are used in most products today (idk if it's the same reason emby picked them) is because they give a subconscious feeling of class and elegance. Look at everything we have today, cars have curves, phones have curves, everything has curves, you don't look at a box and go wow that's elegant do you? The shape of objects and designs have a subconscious impact on how we view that product and can ultimately help us form a subconscious opinion of whether we will like said product or not before we've even used it, this is the same for colours, fonts and everything else. But as an "award winning designer" I'm sure you allready know that.

  47. Save Time With Emby's Intro Skip Requires: Emby Server 4.7 or later One of the new features in Emby Server 4.7 is the ability to skip TV Show Episode Introductions segments. This allows you to jump right to the start of the action saving you a great deal of time allowing you to quickly get to the good stuff! Combine Into Skip with Automatic Play Next Episode for a superior binge-watching experience!. This guide will cover the following: Configure a TV Library in Emby Server Configure Emby Client for Automatic or Manual Intro Skip How to use Configure a TV Library in Emby Server In order to use Intro Skip a TV Show library needs to be configured. Edit a TV Library on the Emby Server console. Scroll down to the Markers section in the library and change the option from NEVER to either "as a scheduled task" or "as a scheduled task and when media is added" depending on your particular needs. Once setup go to Scheduled Tasks and you'll see a new option has been added: By default this task is set to run every 24 hours. You can adjust it to run at specific time if you like. To add a new Task click the + sign above. This shows a new schedule that starts at 3 AM and is allowed to run for 4 hours. After clicking Add: We can now click the trashcan icon on the 24 hours schedule ending with: From our Scheduled Tasks menu we can manually run this job clicking the arrow icon. You will then see a status bar showing the percentage complete. There is nothing more needed on the server to use Intro Skip except to give it time to analyze all episodes and build the Intro Skip indexes. This process may take a while depending on the number of episodes you have. Configure Emby Client for Automatic or Manual Intro Skip Each client can be set to ignore TV Show Intros, automatically use Intros, or to prompt use showing a button. You can set this option in the client option's Playback Menu. Using Intro Skip With the Skip Intro button selected you can clearly see the button on the OSD immediately at the start of playback. The timeline is still at 0:00 before the show has started to play and we can already skip the introduction of the show. Clicking the Skip Intro button immediately jumps right to the start of the Episode. With the client option set to Automatically skip intros our TV show intros have been put on auto pilot. Right at the start of playback it jumps to the end of the intro right at the point of the fade in. View the full article
