Nothing particularly new here - The Introskip Plugin had TV End Credits maybe 18 Months ago - I still have them all detected on my TV Shows as I'm now still using the Plugin. ChapterAPI was using a cloud based approach maybe 6 months ago - the concept worked for Intro's great - but would have easily been expanded for Credits, Recaps etc - but it never took off. Emby had the opportunity to include both the End Credits from Introskip and the ChapterAPI ...3 points

To get a sequence of number is a calculation; repeating a calculation will always give the same sequence, from a the same starting point. However you can start the sequence with a number chosen by another means - for instance, the time. Another issue is that the concept of "a random number" is not well defined - or rather, there are many definitions according to what aspect of the numbers you want to be random. Furthermore, when selecting a play order for a list of items, you want to ensure that individual items do not get repeated too often or too close (which true randomness does not exclude), which is a requirement to make the sequence at least "a bit less random"! The calculations to approximate any particular kind of randomness are quite picky - not so much complex as requiring to be done just so. People have already done the work of writing programs to get good results, so it is usual to use the work already done rather than trying to do it oneself. There is still the matter of exactly how to use the sequence of numbers which the chosen random number generator gives you, and this is an area in which I believe Emby could be significantly improved (I gave a hint earlier in the thread, but it may have been a bit lacking in detail). Plex Preview: https://forums.plex.tv/t/forum-preview-credits-detection-for-plex-media-server/822998 Has the cloud-based marker sourcing too via API.2 points

Since we can now detect end credits, or manually add them in other cases, it would be nice to see this, rather than an automatic percentage/time remaining, trigger the "next episode" popup and decide whether an episode is resumable or not. Even better if it could expand to movies for the latter point.1 point

I moved from Plex to Emby and even though I think Emby is superior in its flexibility there are some things I like better with Plex, especially in terms of its looks. This theme is trying to fix that by making it a bit more similar to Plex but with some, in my opinion, improvements. The CSS is attached to this post for anyone interested and below are some screens to show it off Good to know I only use Chrome so I can't guarantee this CSS works as expected in other browsers. If you want the sidebar menu to look like in the screens, make sure to pin the sidebar. Watched badge/banderoll is inverted which means that the badge will not be shown if media have been watched, like in Plex. For desired look, please use the "Dark" theme for both Theme & Settings theme in the display settings. Emby-Stable-style-v3.6.txt1 point

*Updated* v 1.0.0.7 - should work on all Emby versions/platforms - just put the dll in the plugins directory. Fixed issue where links were being disguarded if the link contained "quotes", this will speed up load times where disguarded links were valid as the check will succeed and the plugin will stop looking instead of trying to verify a second link (more time). It wont make any difference to invalid link verification speed. How to use: Click on an Empty person image to trigger it. If it finds a link with a valid id (imdb id), then data and or image should load shortly. *A Caveat - it is possible that the wrong actor with the same name can be identified as correct* I have tested it here and it works well for me, please feel free to test it further. Nothing to configure or enable and it is seemless. I accept no responsibilty for anything if you choose to use it, its all on you to check legallity in your country! What this does: 1. It looks on google search engine for imdb links that contain the actor you are looking at or refreshing metadata on. 2. It collects links of possibles. 3. It only visits the links that might be valid and checks if the persons name is found in the actor page in order to verify it is valid. 4. It updates the provider Id (if found) 5. It writes a log file. Why does this help? Other metadata plugins if installed will use this id to get data such as tvmaze, themoviedb etc. This plugin might introduce a delay on person loading if *any* metadata is missing for that person. What it doesn't do: 1. It does not fetch any data on people, it only fetches the nm****** id code. It is technically a webscraper, athough intrusion is minimal - so it probably will not be allowed in the catalogue. What it might do: 1. Slow down library scans if it comes across missing people metadata.. Success rate for me is very high at identifying more people than movidb, tvmaze, tvdb alone! ***** UPDATE 18.01.2023 Uploaded same plugin but queries Bing instead, seems faster and more reliable. I have a feeling Google when logged in on a browser in your home network might ip block the original version from its servers, as the Bing one gets more results than the google one -- odd but seems to be tue. Emby doesn't support being run behind a folder URL, as Luke says in the post above yours. This is why the advice is to use a subdomain. Is there a reason you can't use a subdomain? Paul1 point

I can't begin to imagine the complexity with this stuff because I'm just a basic user. No knowledge in the technical aspects whatsoever. When you said "The bottom line here is that true randomization in computer systems is impossible because computers are, by definition, not random" that kinda blew my mind because it's the exact opposite of what I would believed to be true. Would you be able to explain this to me in laymans terms? At this point in time, we are relying primarily on established randomization routines provided by external libraries1 point
-
Hi. No, that would be the same as the logic would assemble all playable items (episodes) in the library and then shuffle them. It is just a single list that has a pseudo randomizer applied to it.1 point

I use this device to transmit sound from the TV by Bluetooth (for my wife's hearing aids) - I've mounted it behind the TV on the bracket. It can be fed from the headphone socket or the TOSlink, depending on whether you want to disable the built-in speakers. Paul1 point

Good idea ! If it works, that's one less wire (WAF up) and the speaker remains portable.1 point

Hmm, strange. What if you plugin a USB bluetooth dongle into the TV? Na that wont work..1 point

If I put Latest Media on top, I then have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to access any of my libraries.1 point

First I'd try the Tizen app, got nothing to loose there. My brother in law uses it and seems happy with it. (Canada? You may have to side load from USB. Not that hard, same as Australia). If that's not to your requirements then go for the shield. If you want something cheaper the Xiaomi MI BOX S 4K is ok (Android TV device) but not as good as the shield. I use the MI BOX on a couple of older TV's and I really like them. In some respects there are better than my Sony Android TV app. Food for thought. Obviously do some research and find out what's best for your situation.1 point

It's because the photo scanning is just blindly ignoring all images starting with the video file name. That's something that needs to be adjusted.1 point

The trailer mode or cinema mode works great for watching a movie. I would like to breakup my playlusts with a music video, cartoon, or trailer between entries. I think this would work for Untoten as well. He is asking for a timer setting and not just a break between entries. That sounds like a great addition as well. Thanks Untoten.1 point

Apple TV is definitely not the most suitable device to enjoy Emby. Especially if it is necessary to play MKV 4K HDR files.1 point

I followed Zoroli's steps and they worked for me. I've written down exactly the steps I took in order to successfully downgrade from DSM 7.0 to 6.2.3: Hopefully this a little clearer for some people and might help out: 1. Ensure you have a telnet client available on your PC, and also ensure you have downloaded Synology Assistant to your PC 2. In DSM 7.0, enable Telnet and SSH access 3. Using telnet, connect to your Synology NAS from your PC: (x.x.x.x is the IP address of your NAS) telnet x.x.x.x 4. Run the following command on your NAS: sudo vi /etc.defaults/VERSION 5. Replace the entire contents of that file with the following: majorversion="6" minorversion="2" productversion="6.2.3" buildphase="GM" buildnumber="25426" smallfixnumber="0" builddate="2020/07/01" buildtime="06:24:39" 6. Save the file and reboot your NAS 7. Use the Synology Assistant to find the machine and connect to it 8. Install DSM 6.2.3 using the .pat file downloaded from the Synology download center. The upgrade will start but then quickly show an error stating you are unable to downgrade and must install a version of DSM7. Don't worry, because at this point, Telnet will be available and you will be able to connect to your NAS. 9. Telnet to your NAS like in step 3, but instead of using your account credentials from before, use the following: username: root password: 101-0101 10. Repeat steps 4 and 5, replacing the VERSION file with the new contents. 11. Install 6.2.3 again. Your NAS should successfully downgrade to 6.2.3. I haven't verified that this will retain your data on your disks - I didn't need my data so I performed a factory reset via the GUI before starting these steps.1 point

I know that in 3.6 the home screen TV display has now resorted to Posters by design. I think it would be a great option to let users choose between having thumbs on home screen or posters. I recently made a post about this, so I'll link that here just for reference. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/66750-my-layout-is-dissimilar-to-a-friends/1 point

Bag, The design was chosen to be like it is after reviewing mobile preferences and ease of use for desktop. It happens to be a design you would like to change. So, you can change it. It's sort of like buying a Ford and then saying it is not enough like a Toyota. It is, what it is.0 points
