This is another brand-new plugin which is available in the catalog now: Emby Data Explorer Important Note Make sure to clear your browser cache after installation and restarting the server! History In 2016 I was working on Metadata Providers and wanted to see and better understand which metadata is coming from which provider and which information was actually taken by Emby Server. In turn, I had created the MetadataViewer Plugin. Later, it became outdated and I was no longer around to update, so eventually it had to be pulled due to incompatibilities after the server had evolved. Meanwhile, there had also been an idea for a "Backstage View" plugin with the purpose to provide some low-level insights into Emby item data, but it never took off. This month, I came back to some work on metadata providers and I had the same problems again, which ended up in creating this plugin. It's a fusion of the MetadataViewer plugin and the Backstage View concept - with a name that leaves room for more... Beta For now, it's available for the beta server only It's been done in two and a half days, so please report bugs in case you find any How it Works The plugin adds a new entry to the Item Context Menu: This will open a dialog for data display: This dialog is the one and only UI that the plugin provides. Everything is happening there. I will describe individual features in subsequent topics. ENJOY!5 points

Preparations have been made a while ago. The new enums are part of the public (plugin) API: Emby.Media.Model.Enums.ExtendedVideoSubtypes Emby.Media.Model.Enums.HdrBaseFormats That's just one part, though. Next step is to extend the database for this.3 points

At the moment once themes finish, silence ensues. I'd rather have the theme start playing again. It also doesn't play after the film/show, I don't think? I love having it, it approximates the mood-setting of a DVD or Blu-ray menu, and avoids horrible silences, but it shuts off too much.2 points

Starting from today, a new metadata plugin is available in the catalog: TV Maze Metadata Provider This is a highly efficient metadata provider for TV series which is safe to add as it has very low impact on library scanning performance. Features: A single API request per series provides all data: series, season, episode, seriesimage, seasonimage, episodeimage and extra images (banner, logo, backdrop) New 2-stage caching mechanism Single JSON file per series/person In-Memory Cache with auto-expiration Failed lookup caching (with auto-expiration) Uses TvMaze update checking mechanism Works by timestamp comparison Cached files do not expire by fixed interval Added episode matching by name and air date Metadata Providers TvMazeSeriesProvider TvMazeEpisodeProvider TvMazeSeasonProvider TvMazePersonProvider Image Providers TvMazeSeriesImageProvider TvMazeEpisodeImageProvider TvMazeSeasonImageProvider TvMazePersonImageProvider Limitations Provides metadata in English language only (but it is able to identify series and episodes by original title) Updates Version 4.8.0.20 (March 11, 2023) Now also provides crew information (people) for series Provides guest-cast and guest-crew information (people) for episodes2 points

Why it's so complicated to add this simple filter? Maybe developper missunderstand the request? We don't want wait a decade before obtain this filter but filter by decade.... Emby is more powerfull player than Plex but their filter when I search for a movie is archaic. It's the main reason I use Plex again.2 points

When you press back on a video in the Emby app, it will stop, so just having the return button is fine.2 points

Browser Cache was just cleared; I didn't disable it. Of interest and for another thread, how to get the function on the context menu via a plugin is of great interest ! @chef @Cheesegeezer2 points

If you watch a movie and have to download a subtitle, often there is a required subset to make the playback with subtitle proper. The intention is now, that you setup the offset, but it will be kept per movie and downloaded subtitle (please note that new versions of a subtitlecould be downloaded). Expected function: Next time starting the same movie wiht the yame subtitle, the offset from last time is automatically applied.1 point

Hi, Thank you for the great product. It is a pleasure to use it. I have seen some posts but they are years ago regarding my request. Is there a plan to have notification (when adding movies, shows, live tv etc.) from the emby app ? This means to get a push message on my android phone, iphone, windows app, etc. With 3rd party software its not so cool. Thank you.1 point

I'd imagine this one will probably be a little to tricky to implement any-time soon Heck I'm not even sure if there's a suitable codec available that's opensource/free to use But it would be a really awesome extension to sync if you could transcode into multiple bitrates and then use adaptive streaming between the emby client and the server to pick the highest quality possible at any given moment. I would think this would be especially useful for mobile clients where the network performance can be all over the shop. I thought i'd suggest it on the off chance it was feasible.1 point

Hi. I'm currently showing you just under the 45 limit so, you should not be getting an over limit message right now - especially if you are using a device that was connected previously. If you wish to increase to 75, please re-purchase that monthly subscription because we did cancel and refund the one you purchased previously. Thanks.1 point

So, i've completely changed the programming language now. I've moved away from Web Development and I'm using .Net MAUI now. Which is a great for x platform development. Its still very new platform and has it's limitiations but I think that in the next 6 months it's gonna be pretty well rounded and feature rich. It makes sense to me because i can deploy on android, android TV, iOS, MacOs and Windows Desktop. I'm still figuring a lot of stuff out but the basics are there and it's pleasant to work with, quite similar to WMC MVVM structure so i'm feeling quite at home. Routing is bliss!! Templating is also great so and i can write in c# which reduces my learning curve massively. Anyway i looks very similar to the Javascript version i was working on and i'm certainly happy with it so far. Datagram is sent over the local network to find local servers Select Users and then you have the option to stay signed in1 point

Any chance the core will start to recognize and display at least part of this request soon? ffprobe has been able to detect Dovi and the profile for a while now This information could be used in media labels, SFN, media info, and determining playback capability for things like if your TV doesn't support DV profile 5. Even plugins like Cover Art could start using this information. Maybe one of the devs will reply, but if all it did was Return then the video would still be playing in the background like what happens when playing music1 point

I think this feature request can be closed... The new Data Explorer Plugin was made for a different purpose, but it accidentally allows to do exactly what is being requested here. All images are listed with local links and can be opened directly from the browser. Clicking the yellow folder symbol opens the file location in Windows explorer. (a browser extension is required to install, but it can be disabled after setup)1 point
-
LOL, I had written the first lines for this and then I decided to make a cut and get an initial version out. Of course this can be added! BTW, when you install the "Local Explorer" extension for Chrome or Edge, you can click on the path links and open the items locally. Folders open in Windows explorer and files have that folder symbol at the right, which opens the folder where the file is located.1 point

I'm not sure whether we want to make this generally available. I started an internal discussion about it, but I can't make any promises..1 point

Data Display General Empty Cells When cells are empty, it means that there's no value - or that the value is identical to the default value for an item of that type Numbers equal to zero are hidden as well Word Wrapping When many columns are shown, there's often not much space to display longer values and text. To make this more efficient and avoid rows getting overly tall, there's a word-wrapping by-letter. It's not nice for reading, but it saves space and allows to compare texts more quickly and easily Data Types Booleans are shown as checkmark/cross symbols. This makes visual comparison much easier than having TRUE/FALSE text everywhere Dates Are shown in ISO format: yyyy-mm-dd Item Links Every value that represents an Emby item is represented as link which allows to open that item in the data explorer. Currently there is no way back. The only option to return to a previous item is to go to the Relations Section and find a link that leads to the previous item. Local File and Folder Links Values that are indicating a patch in the local file system are also shown as links: Unfortunately, browsers do not allow anymore to open file:/// links to open from web pages. But there's a solution. It works on Windows only with Chrome (probably Edge as well) after installing the following Chrome extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/local-explorer-file-manag/eokekhgpaakbkfkmjjcbffibkencdfkl Once everything is set up and working, you can even DISABLE the extension, so it won't be able to read the content of the sites you are visiting. The Data Explorer is already taking care of preparing the links as needed. You need to keep the native installation part of the extension, though. File Links For file links, there's also a small "folder symbol" shown. This allows you to open the containing folder in Windows Explorer rather than opening a file directly.1 point

Installing on new hardware will not make any difference as everything is tied to the server premiere key. So you have exceeded your limit per the key. You have to wait about a week for existing clients to fall off the premiere limit list assuming they client is not continually used.

So I tried it (on the simulated head unit) and after telling google to "enable driving-mode" it just...does. No confirmation, no nothing. The only difference is, that I can select emby in the launcher now. Yet, I can only play music and three plugins (local tv). But I only use emby for visual media. Is that an AA restriction to playing visual stuff? Emby on my phone works fine though.1 point

https://www.igdb.com/api (Required OAuth for personal token authorization) (Parent company Twitch) https://api.rawg.io/docs/ (Required apikey for authorization) https://www.giantbomb.com/api/documentation/ (Required apikey for authorization) (Parent company Gamespot) https://thegamesdb.net/ (Required apikey for authorization, access requires special request) They all have similar requirements. Really the authorization is most likely to avoid abusing creating your own service to simulate their same data set and features. IGDB seems to be the most robust in terms of raw data. GiantBomb seems second most favorable in terms of completeness. Not too concerned about authorization flow. Pretty common these days and could be setup in the plugin settings. There might be other players but with too small of databases. Main reason I was asking about this is more and more home media (including Video Games) has turned into a hub environment. Games can be a big part of that ecosystem and like to see Emby take a crack at the presentation market for these libraries. I could always load up RetroArch that does this all in one presentation but then it is a separate presentation layer inside another app.1 point

If you install the diagnostics plugin, you will get a mass of veey detailed info on the transcode etc. Once installed, you'll get a sessions option on the main menu. I don't believe stats for nerds shows anything extra though.1 point

Any more effort in this? I have games scanned in emby but cannot take advantage of any metadata information so it is just folder items. This looks pretty good even though the user needs to register their own API key https://www.igdb.com/api1 point

Hello! First thing you should know is that containers are a common standard, container from dockerhub will work in containerd, docker, crio and others I have probably not heard about. Which container runtime is running under the hood should not interest you too much! I am afraid k3s is pretty complex for a novice because it is a full kubernetes implementation just easier to host on bare metal, I would suggest you stick with docker-compose (you can investigate tools such as portainer) or you will have huge issues debugging even the simplest problems. If you are interested in learning kubernetes I would recommend a tool called Kind to quickly create and destroy expendable kubernetes clusters (they are however not suitable for deploying apps permanently). Some tools which will help you get into k8s: k9s (GUI wrapper for kubectl), Helm (creates reusable and customizable yaml templates), nginx/Traefik (as an ingress controller to handle domains, choose whichever you are more familiar currently) Then you can start playing around with more stuff like loki-stack and grafana (for logging), cert-manager (for ssl), prometheus operator (for monitoring), external-secrets (for storing secure configuration outside your cluster), I would also highly recommend ArgoCD for storing your configuration in a git repository to remove the headache of rolling back to last known good configuration. If you google for "emby helm chart" you will find example charts, unfortunately they are not user friendly with many dependencies while emby really needs only a basic config with few resources, you would be much better off writing you own helm chart for emby by using `helm create xxx` and removing unneeded stuff. Try to deploy a single nginx container under a domain first and go on from there. Good luck!1 point

And now Qualcomm newest Snapdragon SoCs have AV1 decoding support. Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Has a 40% Faster CPU Than Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, New Leak Also Reveals 8K 60FPS Video Support, More AMD's new RDNA 3 GPUs have also the same AV1 encode and decode functionality as Nvidia's new RTX 40 series. AMD RX 7000 graphics card brings RDNA 3 media engine, supports AV1 hardware encoding So all three major GPUs support encode AND decode, mobile supports hardware decode, and now open source software is getting in lock step. That's hook, line, and sinker.1 point

And another one... VideoCardz: FFmpeg now supports NVIDIA NVENC AV1 encoder, outperforms HEVC by 75% to 100% https://www.phoronix.com/news/NVIDIA-NVENC-AV1-FFmpeg1 point

It's clear that hardware media acceleration is not a focus topic for AMD. What's unfortunate is that they make a presentation mentioning ffmpeg and everybody thinks that all of their hwa would be working fine with ffmpeg, even though not even the tiny part of AV1 encoding is working with it (yet). Just while we're talking (yesterday, today, tomorrow), a non-AMD guy is about to become maintainer for AMF in ffmpeg - because "somebody" is at least better than "nobody". Looking at the larger picture, each of the "players" has its own focus areas. Intel is up to selling CPUs (until recently) that avoid the need for having separate GPU boards for hw media acceleration - which is a big selling point. Nvidia needs media hwa for their game stream features and for cloud computing use cases. AMD have slept on game streaming and later done just the minimum to fulfill the most common use cases. They've never been that strong in datacenter solutions either and were probably able to get along with their existing hwa capabilities, as middleware (ffmpeg, handbrake) integration is of lower importance for these (more targeted) cases. Until there would be a clear change of strategy, AMD hardware will continue to be not recommended for use with Emby Server if hw acceleration is desired (otherwise fine of course). But getting away from AMD and back to AV1 encoding - unfortunately this is still very far away: At this time, probably less than 0.1% of Emby users have hardware available that is capable to do AV1 encoding This week, a patchset has been posted for ffmpeg to enable AV1 encoding with hw acceleration; it was including a comment that the developer of the patch wasn't able to verify it's working, because he doesn't have any hw available that can do it. It can be taken for granted that AV1 encoding support will not be added to earlier hardware devices At the side of Intel, it's almost the same picture Bottom line is that we're many years away from a situation where AV1 encoding could become common functionality. The same things apply as for H.265. A widely adopted streaming protocol for AV1 is not in sight at the moment, software encoding is too slow and hw encoding is largely untested because most people can't test... On the positive side: Everything needs to start somewhere and at some point. It was no different for H.264 when the first hwa implementations came. Like then, it takes a while until it's ready for use by the masses and at the time when that happens, chances are good that there will be answers to the other questions (e.g. streaming protocol support) as well.1 point
