  1. So for some media there is a desire to watch the intro or at least occasionally watch the intro. However, with skip intro turned on (and we do want to use it) the skip button stays up for the entire duration of the intro. It would be nice if after a period of time (10 seconds or let us set it) the skip intro button would disappear as the user has selected to watch the intro and is now upset that part of the image is covered up.

  2. Version 1.0.0.23 Things I was able to add/fix in this release Top Picks Library now re-creates itself as a "Mixed content" library (big one!) TV Series are able to be added to Top picks (really big one!) Re-design of the configuration page to allow for TV Series. (still a work in-progress) (big one!) I tried to make it look more like the other Emby config pages in the dashboard. Fixed Engagement task broke when attempting to ignore 4K content Only one library scan is run at the end of the Top Picks Refresh Task. (big one!) Things I wasn't able to "fix" There is a chance that the Home Screen throws an error after a library refresh, and the first time you enter Top Picks it renders the library empty??? I thought I could fix this by limiting the library scans, but there is something else happening. This is browser specific, and only happens in the browsers. A page refresh fixes the issue. Could be the cache, but I'm unsure. Still working on it. There is a slight wait while the config page loads large libraries. I have done my best to keep it unnoticeable.... hopefully. I look forward to feed back about that going forward. TODO: In the configuration the "Library Location" select box doesn't change when switching content type. Needs to be fixed. "Library Location" label should probably be changed to "Virtual Folders" User engagement doesn't calculate tv shows yet. It will eventually, but it is going to take some work to get it calculating stats for that.

  3. Okay, I'm going to put a new release out. Fixed engagement task (I tried to ignore 4K content in the task... but, it's a bit hard to filter media sources) Added TV Series to top picks Stay tuned!

  4. Okay, I think I have fixed this. I have worked on it all day, and I should be able to out something up that I believe will fix all of these, and add some extra cool stuff to the plugin. Just a couple more tests and I think this is going to be pretty cool.

  5. PS - I think this should be expanded out to include movies. Specifically, movies that are straight to streaming platforms. When a new movie downloads immediately upon release, it will have wildly inaccurate star ratings, and other data might be missing, such as unannounced cameos. It would nice to get movies to also refresh after a week or so. Ideally, we could set a different refresh rate for movies vs episodes.

  6. Do you get this when that happens?

  7. This is included in the 4.7.9 maintenance release of Emby Server. There's lots of new webhook options to play with. Please try it out and report your experience. Thanks !

  8. Normally every guide refresh triggers creation of new program data in the plugin. With that setting you can prevent this. Lets say you define 168 hours, it will take 7 days after the next guide refresh until new program data is generated. You can then even refresh the guide multiple times a day within that timespan, but the program for virtual tv will not change.

  10. I did it! I flipped the ratings, and then used the dataset to recommend movies from inside for users added in emby. Now, I'll use the tmdb IDs to do a provider lookup and get the trailer url to add to a strm file. We can show a row of items that may not exist in the library but are recommend. Dude! That was a great idea!!

  11. @PuffyToesToo Check it out!

  12. That's a cool idea. Completion data, so was the item watched all the way through? The movie lens data set using ratings. It was one of the only datasets I could find. I think the end goal would be some kind of user based recommendation system. If it is incorporated into top picks, or something else. Because if the size of the dataset from movie lens, and it's use of tmdb IDs, it believe it is totally possible to recommend items that are not yet in the library. In fact, I was kind of thinking to try that.

  13. Every time I update "Top Picks" via my Admin account in the web browser (firefox) the "Top Picks" library will be empty as will all my other libs (movies/collections/tv...). If I refresh the browser everything is back to normal. Oddly this does not affect the home "Latest Top Picks widget". Anyone else run into this?

  17. Would like to request GPU transcoding support for the Intel ARC A770 GPU cards if not already in the works? With Intel getting serious about mid market (reasonably affordable) GPU's & the ability to work in tandem with the onboard Intel GPU (Intel Deep Link Technologies). I managed to pick up an Intel ARC A770 yesterday & installed it on our Emby Server (loaded all of the ubuntu drivers, etc.) but Emby Server is not recognizing the Arc A770 as a transcoding option. I'm assuming that support has not yet been added to it? We run a docker setup & we're happy to run beta testing if that would be helpful. 18. Hi, I have quite a lot of videos that were filmed vertically that I'd like to view on my iPhone. Unfortunately, when I click play these videos are auto-rotated into landscape mode, meaning that the content becomes small and hard to watch. There is no way rotate the video back into portrait as far as I can tell - no button on screen to force it to rotate; I've tried turning the phone with Portrait Orientation Lock Off and turning the Lock on - no luck Is there actually a way to watch portrait content vertically that I am missing? 19. Even though Emby lists podcast support, from what I can tell, it appears to be very limited. Mostly just rss connections to stream the latest episode. No distinct library option. I have all the old episodes of any podcast I subscribe to downloaded and stored locally. I'd love if Emby added a podcast database supplier, so that an organized and real system to sorting the episodes existed. https://www.podchaser.com/ This site lists most every podcast/episode that exists. It would be nice to have a site like this linked with Emby so that metadata can be ported over. Also, having a distinct library option for podcasts would make this a lot easier as well. Mixed libraries and using Music libraries as options have too many drawbacks. Thanks.

  25. The issue is Emby is querying &query=Hercules&language=en&year=2014 but get multiple results shown in the hidden content above and the first result is the wrong result same as Identiify. I don't know how much secondary checking is done behind the scenes as the correct result is the second result in this example. To a point it is a defect on TMDB api as a movie from 1997 technically should not be on the list but their Release Date info skews the returned results. We have brought if up with TMDB and they have tickets open. @Lukecan we switch to &primary_release_year=xxxx instead of &year=xxxx? As in this example it returned the Hercules as first item and left out the rogue 1997 version. Wouldn't think there would be any side effects. Noticed it on this ticket. But this ticket covers some of the same issues we see. Search movie should be more accurate - Talk — The Movie Database (TMDB) (themoviedb.org) Results using &primary_release_year=2014

  26. Same as all the rest of TMDB result issues do to mass release dates. Only looked at Hercules but TMDB returns 2 when querying year as the first one has a release date in 2014. Identify with Hercules year 2014 API results &query=Hercules&language=en&year=2014 Emby chose first returned result. @Lukecan Emby better match release_date on results?

  31. Correct, what I've done so far only uses the *already retrieved* parent item art to generate (posters, thumbs) or clone (backdrops, logos) Extra art as part of the metadata refresh process. It does no remote image fetching of its own. This allows for Extra art to automatically appear as the extras are processed in by Emby and to be manually refreshed as needed/wanted. I have plans to build a (premium) UI that will provide an interactive option for custom generating extra art per movie with one off settings, quick sorting extras, etc. At that point, I'll experiment with fetching art from the providers that the movie item itself might not have pulled down.

  32. New version 1.1.3 in the starting post: General: Fix for Mono installations (Synology) Channels: Fix Tags exclude condition for named tv shows Fixed library selection Better randomization for Random (Interleaved) tv Episodes if the amount of episodes from multiple tv series differ Export API: Fixed host adress override and some other exception errors Playback: Added option to select the video container of the "black intro video" that is started to initialize Playlist playback. Defaults to mp4 now instead of ts. The default should solve playback start problems that sometimes occured in the browser app, but maybe breaks Roku. Because i've finally switched to a newer Emby version, no more updates for Emby 4.5 or 4.6!

  33. But my issue is I have 1000s or artists without metadata and most there is no way to find this metadata. And this just makes the music part of the server look untidy and unfinished. What the solution is, is not to be bombarded with all the artists without metadata. Take a look at the apple music plugin that Jellyfin uses, it's very good and can pull most metadata for the artists. Either that or maybe look into Deezer metadata or Spotify metadata, these would be much much better as a provider as they have all the artists and the majority have metadata, as it stands Emby just doesn't appeal for the music part. The thing is when the music does have the correct metadata it looks incredible

  34. It's a bit of both actually. If the extras are related to a specific episode and named as such (ShowName - SXXEXX-featurette for example) then the extra is listed inline with the episode (like movies). However, if the extras are for the season or the entire show, they are listed in Season 0 (but can also be placed with the appropriate season as well) I agree...I'd like a separate Season 0 or Specials that is just for actual "story content" (ie. Veronica Mars - The Movie is a special between season 3 and season 4....bloopers and making ofs are extras that should be separate)
    1 point
  35. Ya, if this is just more ways to get stuff into Season 0, I have no use for it. If it means we will be able to list our extras like we do under movies *and* have a separate season 0 for actual named specials with metadata, I'm very excited. Is still isn't clear which one is happening.

  36. So, I have emby configured to convert new content in order to help with streaming compatibility, but this has been causing problems with subtitles especially with foreign films and anime where there may be different subtitle tracks for different audio tracks (eg there may be a forced track for signs, a track that matches the english dub, and a track that's a direct translation) and when converting emby will burn in whatever the default subtitle track is into the video. So my feature request is to have an option in the conversion settings to preserve all subtitle tracks instead of burning one in, potentially with an option to demux them from the file.

  37. Intel ''Deep Link' will allow multiple encoding cores to work in parallel. it's not 100% scaling - but +40% has been suggested for combining an iGPU and dGPU. I haven't seen much more beyond the marketing spec - so cannot verify any of this, but if it gets support (or is transparent at the driver level) then it's a win for those with Intel Gen 11-13 cpu's and ARC series dGPU's.

  39. This has been in contention since 2015. https://www.streamingmedia.com/Articles/ReadArticle.aspx?ArticleID=103042#:~:text=Here are the main points of the HEVC,content (as there was for H.264 and MPEG-2) The cost is $0.20/unit for all licensed encoders and decoders There’s a de minimis exception for units under 100,000 There’s an annual cap of US $25 million. There is no license on HEVC-encoded content (as there was for H.264 and MPEG-2) That could put Emby on the hook for 20 a client regardless of the client license (free or paid). Why not? The client has to be able to play the media and this is not nice and tidy but a mess in itself. H.265 is used differently when streamed vs a progressive or single file version. To stream with h.265 proper to Apple devices for example the format needed for h.265 is fmp4(CMAF) which is close but not the same as your typical mp4 file. HLS was developed by Apple and up to recently only supported MPEG Transport Streams (TS) but recently introduced CMAF (Common Media Application Format). CMAF used fragmented MP4 segments with specific criteria for the encoding. One problem with this is that CMAF wasn't designed with low-latency broadcasting in mind. As I mentioned earlier, pre-creating media for streaming is one thing, but providing real-time transcoding or broadcasting streams is quite another thing. Introducing real-time transcoding adds quite a bit more latency to the pipeline that already is on the high side for latency wise. Without having streams using low latency, you run into buffering and other issues such as stuttering or micro/macro freezes because the client and server can't communicate fast enough. Think about that and you'll understand why these streaming companies pre-process the media multiple ways, then push it out to be as close to the customer as possible. They make use of data centers, co-locate at large ISPs and use CDN networks. On the other hand, you want/need your Emby Server to "compete" with that type of pipeline and delivery network. You might be streaming to friends or relatives across the country vs a collation center where the clients ISP is hosted for super-fast delivery. So essentially, instead of lowering the latency in comparison to Netflix and Hulu's. Our packets will almost surely be traveling a greater distance over slower pipes then the big guys, for yet more latency compared to them. H.265 takes longer to process compared to H.264 even on GPUs so there is additional latency added by this step. Having to use Chucked Transfer Encoding vs a progressive file (as often streamed now) adds latency. All this latency makes it much harder for round trip communication to happen in a time period that allows for positive packet chains with positive ACKS or negative NACKs to acknowledge the ongoing transmission. There is an extension to CMAF that offers Low Latency CMAF but is even more restrictive spec wise. I've actually just broken the surface of some of the challenges doing this proper so you can understand what's involved. Anyone who thinks it's a simple process of changing a few parameters on the ffmpeg command line are surely mistaken. That works for creating local files but it's a whole other thing to do this for streaming. I haven't even touched on Live TV and how that could be affected with additional latency but with HLS packages you can't just start displaying data until you've acquired a certain amount of data. The minimum is normally 3 segments with a duration of 6 to 10 seconds each. If you have 18 to 30 seconds needed before playback can start and you're encoding at 10Mbps you have 60Mb per segment *3 =180Mb that needs to transfer before anything is shown. It takes time to send 180Mb to the client which as you guessed causes more latency. I could go on and on but I think that gives a bit of a picture into what a project like this entails. It's just not switching encoder settings or something as simple as that but a complete eco-system type of change that very much involves the client devices and what they will and will not be able to handle or process. I've personally been one of the original people wanting h.265 to happen but I also understand the magnitude of what this type of change entails. I just wanted to share of this knowledge with you guys to give you an idea what's involved and why it's actually much harder to do in real-time vs a Netflix or Hulu style. Carlo

  40. Fair point if you are looking only at desktop playback users. However, in my case 0% of my users playback in browser - by far most are on set top boxes, then maybe some plays on mobile. I’d imagine the majority of playbacks across all Emby users are not in browser on desktop, but that’s just my guess.

  41. @RaptorCentauri I would assume as these will be alias, they will be grouped into Season 0/Specials it at Series level. More aliases for Season 0 folder underneath series: extras specials shorts scenes featurettes behind the scenes deleted scenes interviews And these would appear within specific Season if in that folder. Support for special folders underneath season folder: extras specials shorts scenes featurettes behind the scenes deleted scenes interviews similar to this mockup from above And Episodes to be like Movie extras using a specific naming scheme against that episode. Support for specials right next to the episode files: Dexter S01E01 - Episode Title-featurette.mp4 But further documentation will be needed for what will work against specific episode. Dexter S01E01 - Episode Title-Deleted Scenes.mp4 Or if nested episode structure will work. Doctor Who (1963)\Season 1\Doctor Who (1963) S01E01\Doctor Who (1963) S01E01.mkv Doctor Who (1963)\Season 1\Doctor Who (1963) S01E01\Extras\Deleted Scenes S01E01.mkv

  42. Hi @Luke I know this is a very old topic ... but it is a same issue in the past you are using mpv player on emby android mobile which is a fully support ASS file (that was a feature). and my issue in this topic is this ASS does not work in emby android TV version which don't have mpv player embedded inside it now unfortunately, you seems change the internal player for emby android mobile too; for from mpv to another one which does not support ASS. So, emby android mobile and emby android tv do not support ASS anymore .... please is there any plane to support it. ASS is a very important format for anime and it is really a big feature that emby can operate it. Now the only apps are fully support ASS is emby for iOS and macOS Thanks

  43. So I recently paid the £3.95 to unlock the iOS app thinking that it would give me a better experience over viewing the web ui in mobile safari. I've got to say I'm quite disappointed - not because I resent shelling out money to the Emby project, I'm happy to do that but would have probably opted for the premier option as it would have given me more server features - the iOS app just doesn't seem there yet. As far as I can tell the iOS app is just a wrapper for the actual web ui and doesn't offer anything additional - I notice no discernible improvement over just watching via the web ui in safari; granted if I was using mobile sync there might be a benefit to me here. I think if the following features were to be made available / fixed - then it would be a massive improvement: Landscape orientation lock - this is a must for any video player. At least in safari there is one edge of the screen that will not trigger an rotate, but in the app it rotates on all sides and it's quite sensitive. on an iPhone 6s quite a lot of views are simply cut off by the header bar making them impossible to use. Again just constructive criticism - I really appreciate what you guys are doing and I don't want to come off as a d*** . I may even try to look at the above two issues and submit a PR via Github - I have some experience with Cordova based apps.
