Guys - lets just take a moment to step back. Rome was not built in a day. @chef has worked his magic to build a channel from a set of defined ItemId's stored in an XML file. It then does some very wizzy stuff using Skia to create the image graphics so they are numbered and 'stand out'. It also brings this channel to the top of the order list. There are also some algorithms to identify the top played item - personally, I will never use this because I do not have enough users to warrant it working effectively. All great stuff for a 'Spotlight' feature. Now the Recommendations feature IS different, in as much as you manually specify individual USER ItemId's to display for particular users. So using the Spotlight framework - all that needs to be done is to modify the channel to read the 'user recommendations' playlists instead and display it for the appropriate user. This is an ongoing development and I still hope to have the 'Recommendations' Plugin doing exactly as I originally specified - as for me, that is much more useful that a generic 'Spotlight' type approach. If we can combine into one plugin - great - if not, then it will be a different plugin.3 points

Use the Media Toolbox plugin (coded by @Cheesegeezer with ffmpeg/bif logic from myself @rbjtech ..) - it properly tonemaps your HDR source files to SDR .. Note this needs HDR10 - it will not (currently) tonemap DV5 to SDR - DV7 and DV8, HDR10, HDR10+ etc should be fine. https://github.com/Cheesegeezer/MediaInfoWiki/wiki/Emby-HDR-to-SDR-Thumbnail-&-Chapter-Image-Generator-using-Tonemapping2 points

You could change the view. I'll wait a few more responses and see what's the feedback. If it's also negative I'll roll it back and the artwork matter is once and for all closed. In other words, this is the final call for users reporting what's better. View in 7.7.6 or view in 7.7.7 After this "survey" artwork changes are no longer accepted and I'll turn that stuff into a dictatorship2 points

When setting up a new user I think it would be great if I could copy an existing user. Even better if you could copy certain aspects of a user like views , library access , parental settings1 point

CURRENT STATUS: SSO: Not yet planned LDAP: Development COMPLETED - BETA AVAILABLE >180 direct endorsements >30 MONTHS (>2.5 years) >12,000 views PLEASE BUMP - - - - - PLEASE LIKE - - - - - PLEASE BUMP - - - - - PLEASE LIKE - - - - - PLEASE BUMP This would greatly expand Emby's usage, and possibly more enterprise level adoption, user templating, user groups, SSO, etc. There are also users who have completely abandoned Emby and ended subscriptions due to the lack of this necessary basic functionality. Note: SAML2 is also part of this request. (header auth is also acceptable, at a minimum.) Context: I am trying to use something like openfire as a Instant Messaging solution which already supports LDAP and SAML2. So this would allow the current user of emby to seamlessly use web-based instant messenger with the same username and password as Emby without the need to enter them into a form. This would also allow universal login to be shared with my home PC's, Spiceworks, Ombii, Organizr, etc. The multitude of possible flexible functionality this could add is truly incredible. THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE, myself and others cannot manage a userbase with proprietary passwords for a single service (with no self-service password reset/recovery), when things that have only months of development implement it within days, easily. Status: LDAP - Development Completed - BETA AVAILABLE! Common LDAP solutions to test against:Open LDAP (Open Source) [use this] ApacheDS OpenDJ 389 Directory Server Microsoft Active Directory SSL is NOT actually needed, but Emby team insisted on it anyways: Simply offering a toggle option for auth to send plaintext or encrypted passwords would work just fine. It is ironic to claim the need to be overly security conscious of user passwords, while lagging behind on basic SSL. If SAML is implemented, a SAML request/response can just be signed by an x509 and it is just as secure as TLS using SSL. SSL does not need to be natively supported, as it is perfectly possible to run it through an SSL reverse proxy tunnel and have the same effect. SSL Feature Request: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/33983-ssl-integrationsupport/&do=findComment&comment=322526As of now username and password is encrypted client-side as security as SSL is not natively implemented. Emby team has said this impedes the adoption of both SSO and LDAP. Please see our SSL request topic; like, comment, and endorse it to show how many people would enjoy/gain from this basic security. Ways to satisfy this FR: Direct LDAP connector SAML2 connector General SSO functionality (SSO Header, etc) Allowing user header auth NGINX auth support RADIUS Authentication Other features that are inherently possible if this is implemented: Self service passwords Ability for users to invite users/guests Expiring Accounts (after duration/trigger) Unified credentials for many services Corporate level authentication security User groups Mass User management Update 1: I encourage others to work on this but I am currently seeing what I can do to develop a solution to this myself. If you have experience in this LDAP/SSO/SAML2/SSL/.NET contact myself, @@Luke, @@ebr or the Emby team to let them know, any help is greatly appreciated! By everyone! Update 2: I know there is always the question of "well how many users actually want/will use this", so I compiled a list of some of the other threads/sites where people request this (to apparently no effectiveness in motivating the team). Update 3 (18 MONTH UPDATE): This request has now hit 18 months in age, NO progress made thus far whatsoever. ( ) Update 4: This FR is now the 4th most liked post ON THE ENTIRE FORUM and the 3rd most liked FR ON THE ENTIRE FORUM (ever), the 1st most liked active FR ON THE ENTIRE FORUM and over 4000 views. Counting endorsements besides those on this thread show over 115 direct requests/endorsements for this basic functionality. Lets get this moving guys, this is getting to be a bit much. Almost 2 years waiting on this now. Source Update 5 (9/20/2017): This feature request is now the MOST DESIRED REQUEST EVER MADE TO EMBY, sadly, that has not merited any progress at all. The staff has been working on things they believe Emby users want or may want, but it is clear what people want. We can only hope now our wishes are respected instead of being told what we want and having our requests dismissed. Source Update 6 [2 year update] (10/17/2017): Two years and not a single bit of progress has been made. TWO YEARS!!! To say this is disappointing is an understatement. The entire reason I went from Plex to Emby was because of local user management. THIS IS THE ONLY REASON, so naturally I wanted to have complete control over my users, but after TWO YEARS, still nothing. Update 7 (3/6/2018): DEVELOPMENT HAS STARTED!!! Check Luke's recent comments, if you want to test it out, download the latest beta and install/configure the LDAP plugin to test and give feedback!!! Update 8 (4/6/2018): Development on the LDAP connector has completed from what I gather, not sure if this is only a beta or a primary release; SSO is still a plan for the future but has not been touched. Progress made by other users (looks to be nearly, if not fully complete): https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/pull/1885 https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/pull/2139 Exploits shown by other users against Emby (emphasizing the need for a centralized authentication solution): https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/12335-unauthenticated-access-over-the-internet-to-logs-folder/ https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/20376-all-folders-visible-to-all-users-after-upgrade/ Related FR that could be helpful: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/46635-support-for-logging-users-in-though-url-scheme/?hl=user Any of these could be interesting to have compatibility with: http://lemonldap-ng.org/welcome/ https://github.com/Jasig/cas http://passportjs.org/ https://www.nginx.com/resources/admin-guide/restricting-access-auth-request/ LDAP/SSO/SAML Requests (~180 endorsements) [>12,000 views] > 95 endorsements on this post ~ 30 endorsementshttps://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/1146 > 35 endorsementshttps://www.bountysource.com/issues/24943821-authenticate-users-using-ldap > 14 endorsementshttps://feathub.com/tidusjar/Ombi/+122 > 4 endorsementshttps://www.reddit.com/r/emby/comments/5o44wd/creating_deleting_updating_users_with_the_api/ Interview, in article comments user said lack of LDAP STOPPED him from using Emby (Emby is actually losing customers due to the lack of this NECESSARY basic functionality):https://www.linux.com/news/software/multimedia/856128-exclusive-interview-emby-founder-luke-pulverenti Duplicate, user had no progress on first 2 posts (no one from Emby actually tracked this or even replied to him):http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/861-mb3-and-active-directory/ http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/867-mb3-and-active-directory/ Auth announcement, user 'Drashna' in comments requested LDAP/ADhttp://emby.media/community/index.php?/blog/1/entry-177-manage-your-home-with-emby-users/ Various similar requestshttps://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/2494 https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/2493 https://forum.yunohost.org/t/integration-emby/912 http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/13081-active-directory-integration/ http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/11200-media-browser-3-server-ldap-active-directory/ External SQL auth request:http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/27986-emby-and-shared-mysql-database/ http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/23509-authenticate-users-via-external-mysql-database/ http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/12001-external-login-to-mysql/ #ADFS #SSO #LDAP #ActiveDirectory #MSAD #SAML #SAML2.0 #SAML1.1 #PingFederate #OKTA #LemonLDAP #JASIG #authentication #auth #TLS #SSL #Usergroup #usertemplate #header #authheader #headerauth #security #hardening #authhardening #authenticationheader #externalauth #centralauth #centralizedauth #centralizeddb #exploit #authexploit #security #loginhardening #authenticationhardening #accesscontrol #.NET #SelfService #RADIUS1 point

Well that's a great find on your part. I always have it turned off. Learned my lesson in the past. Also I think its turned off by default when you create a library. I have rebuilt my system 3 or 4 times and have always have that option turned off. Its only slow scans on tv shows. Im on server version 4.7.6.0. I dont think this matters because I have always had this problem. Its crazy that its saying its creating thumbnails because I dont see thumbnails at all on the tv shows.1 point

You can find it with name: Westworld.S01.2160p.BluRay.REMUX.HEVC.DTS-HD.MA.TrueHD.7.1.Atmos-FGT I can't because is 209GB/season and 24GB/episode. I can't take a sample because it need video editing programms etc. You can find it and download the any episode of you want, after 3-5mins play it lags kai step up frames ligh "photoshoots" together with subs. You must pause it and play resume again. Not simple pause and play because after this it plays with video/audio unsync.... REALY BIG PROBLEM.... If you want access i don't have a problem send me pm. but i have 100mbps/down and 10/up if you can use it for stream I here now.1 point

I have paid licenses on both Emby/Plex and keep dockers installed, along with Jellyfin on my Unraid server. The tonemapping in JF is pretty fugly in certain areas. I think the best thing end-users can/should do is prepare their media in DV profile 8.1 (8.06) with the HDR10 base layer fallback. There are enough tools available now to convert DV profile 5/7 to 8.1, HDR10+ to DV, etc. I'd be more interested if Emby would start tonemapping their HDR video preview thumbnails so they don't look washed.1 point

Yes, we have the same issue. After one month my Tv says "License no longer available" so I can not use emby anymore. I just uninstall it Use the .zip and put it on my usb again rename the file from emby to file than the installation starts ... after one month same procedure I guess this is a bug in the Samsung Tv.1 point

Either way - the EL layer for me is irrelevant as I 'only' have a 10bit LG C8 OLED Panel. I also suspect 99.9% of people would not be able to tell the difference between a 10bit or 12bit image - myself included The DV image I see now on my TV is still 'stunning' to me (now some 4 years old) - so I'm not sure what new hardware is gonna bring to image quality - maybe AV1 h/w decoding, that's about it.1 point

I solve this problem by change the network mode of the container from host to bridge, and it can work.1 point

I think there might be ways that haven't been considered. DBPowerAmp is a music converter application that doesn't allow major version upgrades without paying for it. You buy it, install it, and it works. Want to upgrade, and you need a new key. Palo Alto firewalls have subscriptions for software firewalls tied to virtual instances. If you want to migrate your license, you need the old one to be online to decommission the license and migrate it successfully. If it was destroyed somehow you have to go through a manual process that takes forever with their support to wipe out the old license registration and move it. I don't really have a player in this race. At the moment none of it concerns me. My only concern is some sort of catastrophic event that disrupts the power grid or internet over a wide area and breaks my media capabilities at the same time. I would love the capability to be able to move something like Emby into a bunker if and when our world falls apart due to climate change or war (civil or international). At a minimum I'd like for it to continue working in some sort of chaotic circumstance at my house to allow me to wait it out. But sounds like it will just stop working in this circumstance which would suck.1 point

FYI this issue seems to have disappeared without any obvious change. Can't explain it but it now takes less than a second to save date edits. But anyway, how do I increase cache size? I have lots of leftover RAM and fast disk (SSD) space on this system and if it helps performance might make sense to do anyway. EDIT: Found it and bumped to 10241 point

Nothing is ever simple. I think its confined to merely the first series out of 10... I'll probably just get the length of the video stream for each affected episode using MediaInfo then chop the end off using ffmpeg, which I can do already. Don't need to demux anything then. They're all different times btw. Nah, not dedicated, get discouraged quickly, limited attention span. And those are my good points...1 point

All I can say is that after going back to port forward from all the 'internet' rather than from the cloudflare IP's only, I had about 4-9 'attacks' blocked with my unify USG router that has IPS turned on (Intrusion Protection System). I never had alerts with CF from it. All attacks were dsheild - known bad IP addresses. Probably harmless. If they did get to the reverse proxy, I have lots of stuff in there also (geo blocking, fail2ban), so I am OK with being pushed off CF if is happens. I ran like that for a week and can flip over in less than 30 seconds.1 point

@pünktchen ( cannot screenshot the active video layer just the overlay but there is playing video beneath these stats for nerds ) I am working on getting the Roku application to work better with your plugin. I can get direct play with the original container using playlist live. But at first it fails with a playback error. Then it resumes with playback recovery and immediately works with direct play. Since you have matured this plugin so much it seems a shame the Roku is being stubborn. I will figure out where the difficulty lies and get back to you in this thread. But good news is always good.1 point

My TrueNAS Scale Emby Setup I used the TrueCharts version as it has some extra features not found in the IX Systems version. This allows me, for example, to run Emby as it's own IP, and that in turn allows DLNA to work. I will note the sections of installing the chart where I changed things from default. Note this all required setting up a network bridge interface br0 via the TrueNAS Scale gui, that I am not documenting. It's in the Scale docs and forum posts. Application Name: emby Timezone: My timezone, which is America/Chicago, it defaulted to this for me Networking and Services: Port 8096 Click on Show Expert Config Interface Configuration, Host Interface: br0 IPAM Type: Use Static IP Configure Static IP Addresses, Static IP: 192.168.3.22 or whatever local IP you want to dedicate to Emby Configura Static Routes, Destination: 0.0.0.0 Gateway: 192.168.3.1 or whatever your network gateway is dnsPolicy: Default DNS Configuration, Name Servers: 192.168.3.1 or whatever your DNS is Storage and Persistence, I may have gone overboard here but works for me. All 'Type of Storage' are set to Host Path including App Config storage, and automatic permissions I set to not clicked (off). I set hostpaths for: App Config Storage /home/emby/media points to my library of content /backups for Emby backups via the backup plugin /images is for my folder images for Infuse (I use custom images in Infuse), not necessary otherwise /config/data/livetv so I can backup up livetv schedules, timers /recordings for my DVR recordings, I keep these separate from my media library as they come and go and for backup purposes /config/transcoding-temp I point to a directory on my boot pool, i named it /transcoding-temp. My boot pool is on a pair of SSD and TrueNAS Scale wastes the space if the SSD is of any decent size. Since mine is 120GB, 110GB or so is wasted otherwise. Since SSD is much faster, might as well transcode to it and get some use out of it. Note you have to build the directory on each boot, so, under System Settings in TrueNAS, Advanced, I made a Init/Shutdown Scripts to do s. I have as the command: /usr/bin/mkdir /transcoding-temp; /usr/bin/chown emby:sfatula /transcoding-temp; /usr/bin/chmod 775 /transcoding-temp and it's set as When of Post Init. Do set the runASUser, Group, etc. to whatever you want to run Emby as Under Resources and Devices, I do set custom resource limits. The reason is I find transcoding on 4 threads not good enough or barely good enough for some content when using Emby client. So, I set CPU to 8000m, which apparently means 8 hyperthreads. My CPu has 32 so not a big deal. So, within Emby, under network settings. I do allow remote connections, I put public https port number to my reverse proxies port (which I just left at 443), External domain is my domain of the reverse proxy machine, secure connection mode is set to Handled by reverse proxy, and I define the local IP address I assigned in the Emby install above. All of this means by dashboard screen is correct for in home and remote access. Also, with the reverse proxy and when remote, I don't have to worry about SSL access within truenas, the reverse proxy handles SSL. While the traffic between the proxy and my Emby machine might be unencrypted, it's not as I actually use Wireguard for that connection since I have a CGNAT home network. All of this works very well for me now. You may have different requirements or settings needed. I no longer have any issues with Emby on TrueNAS scale. I just wanted to document my settings in case it is of some use to someone else. The TrueCharts version is much more flexible and functional.1 point
