  1. Are you pointing to the CLI mediainfo.exe ? There is a GUI and a CLI version of MediaInfo - they are unfortunately named the same, so you may have the wrong one ?

  2. I'm afraid that is targeting such a small audience of users that it isn't worth the time to design, develop, maintain and keep debugging. This applies to any feature as we need to be applying resources to things that benefit the majority of users.

  6. It appears that any playlist that any user creates is public--all other users can see it. I can appreciate the benefit of a public playlist. I could create a playlist called "Harv's Favorite Horror Films" for example, in case other users are interested in checking out what I like. However, the way most of my users are using playlists is to keep track of things they want to watch in the future. They are typically things that the user has not watched yet, so it's not meant as a recommendation to others, just as a way of them personally keeping track of what they want to watch. Having that kind of playlist be public is of questionable benefit to other users. Additionally, it is not clear when you create a playlist that other users will be able to see it. That has the potential to cause some embarrassment. He hasn't created one yet, but I wouldn't want to see my nephew's "movies to fap to" playlist, for example. If I could make a suggestion, I would suggest associating each playlist with the user who created it, and giving that user the ability to make the playlist private or public. For example, the following two checkboxes could be shown when creating or editing a playlist: Allow other users to see this playlist Allow other users to edit this playlist Initially, both checkboxes would be unchecked. Since another user cannot edit a playlist they cannot see, the second would be allowed to be checked only if the first were also checked. (You could grey it out to make that clear.) Depending on your UI preference, it could also be a drop-down menu. Playlist visibility: (Only me | all users can view | all users can view and edit) Thanks for considering this.

  8. Thanks for the answer, Luke. Perhaps Emby needs to up it's game with this feature in addition to perhaps offering other web sites like zmk.pw. I realize that multiple language households are a little rare, but we speak English, German, Japanese and Chinese in this house.

  9. Yes and so what? You do not provide even the option to do so. What is this bringing to the discussion? At the end of the day, you are developing a home media server and I would like to notice that most "homes" consist of more than one person, hence the userbase is asking for features that help organise the content so that my 100 playlists don't clutter and mix with my sister's 100 playlists. Savvy?

  11. Another Big feature coming tomorrow, for those that are into Quality, and again @rbjtech has been my knowledge base. We were thinking of a new plugin but it really didn’t warrant the extra work involved and keeping in the theme of Great Visual formats… all will be revealed in the official release to the plugin store….. with a preview here of course!! if you want a sneak peek check out the wiki

  12. Hi there, recent Plex refugee (6+ years with Lifetime sub) and I just wanted to pass along a few random, specific things that irritated me with Plex and I've found to be standout improvements in Emby, for others who might be considering it. A big thank you to the development team for getting these things right! Installing a custom SSL cert on Linux - painless and simple, requires voodoo on Plex. Multi-episode files - what witchcraft is this that Emby properly understands and treats these as multiple episodes but a single playback item! In-season specials sorted correctly within seasons - Examples include the Battlestar Galactica Miniseries and movies, and Babylon 5 - Thirdspace. This is a big improvement for us, we seem to have a number of these shows. Everything subtitles - my wife prefers subtitles on all the time, and for whatever reason I could not get this working 100% reliably with all of our media on her Roku. Subtitles in general on Plex felt clunky outside of the web app. Emby has already passed the wife test on this - simple to use on the fly, and the "Always show" per-user setting does what it says. User management and licensing - comprehensive and flexible. Everything Plex user management is not. Ability to simply give one of the kids their login information without them needing to either go create a plex account or call me to authorize a new device as a managed user. Combined with the "the server you are connect to has paid, you're good" licensing option for the mobile apps it's not a contest with Plex. Same with restricting content for the little ones in a situation where you can't count on content rating metadata (or where you disagree with the rating), I found it far easier and faster to define exactly what their user profiles could and couldn't access than on Plex. The various options to hide users on login screens - brilliant and massively useful. Those are probably the biggest unexpected things that I found to be unequivocal upgrades over Plex, that had I known about a few in particular I wouldn't have waited for Plex to annoy me with their bad behavior to switch.

  13. A fairer comparison would be having a family account on Spotify and what I expect from Emby. No need to tell you that I can’t see my partners Spotify playlists even though we share a family account

  14. Emby does this for every image as they are not presented at full resolution and a client like the Roku chokes on high resolution images also. Just like go to a movie item details page and save the poster. The poster is 1000x1426 but itemdetails resizes poster and is 329x459. Dev would have to confirm but don't believe full resolution is used anywhere. But I believe mage resizing varies across all devices.

  15. MakeMKV doesn't convert or compress from the source videos. It only copies the contents and repackages them into an mkv container(s). Handbrake is an easy to use option that can easily create a quality compressed version and/or convert between codecs from the makemkv output if they want to do that.

  16. Hiya - we admit that DV5 did not get any testing lol (as neither I nor Cheese use that format, as it's generally a poor format to use unless ALL your devices support DV5..which is highly unlikely) But we got around to getting a demo DV5 file today to test - not actually directly for this, but for another exciting enhancement to this Plugin which @Cheesegeezer will likely release tomorrow. We can also squash the DV5 spacing bug at the same time . Watch this space !

  17. That is not really a fair comparison because your server is personal to you with Emby - so you aren't seeing every Emby user's playlists. Only those on your personal server.

  18. I had exactly the same setup and issue, and I found this comment very accurate. My emby is not visible from the internet and I am not sure how access my lan address with https (there is a ton of conflicting info on the internet!), but I tried the android app and it did perfectly fine. If someone has a simple guide to setup ssl on local addresses, that would be very welcomed!

  23. Hi, what you might want to try instead of connecting emby server to your windows network share, first mount that share to a local path on the server machine. Then add the local path into emby server instead of the smb path. Please see if that helps. Thanks.

  24. Let me start off with I love this team. I've been using Emby Since it was simply Media Browser (not 2 or 3 yet). As soon as one could become a premium member I became one. Even with the likes of Plex, Kodi....I still stayed with MB/Emby. It's a very polished product with FANTASTIC SUPPORT !!! you guys are amazing and don't get enough credit and I honestly feel Emby doesn't get enough recognition !! Emby on WMC is simply the pinnacle on enjoying ones media collection. It's practically infinitely customizable and if you discover there's something you wish you could tweak/add then someone in the community could simply make it happen. The themes from Throg and Cheesegeezer are hands down ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS !!!! The coverwall in Subdued, the multiple themes at the same time from Throg.....it just looks so incredible. I think Emby Theater is a very stripped down version. By stripped down I mean limited options to visually customize the GUI to one's preference. This is why I use ET on all my clients through out the house since it's very easy to setup and get going. But for my home theater....the room with an 11' screen, I can't use anything by Emby for WMC since it just LOOKS absolutely stunning with all the theme options which are available for it. Sure it's more complex to setup, but that's the point. If it didn't have so many options to tweak to exactly one's liking, then it wouldn't be complex. At this point in time I'm slightly shocked that there aren't compatible themes available for ET. I know Cheesegeezer has been working on Iridium. That 100% has an Emby for WMC look and feel to it and may be what ultimately cause's me to use ET in my HT room! But, until that is available I'm going to rock Emby for WMC and revel in it's beauty every single time I hit the power button. Thanks guys for ALL THE TIME you commit to this community! Rob

  26. To my knowledge it will not work as the branding.xml is loaded at startup, editing it directly while running does not reload. But not entirely sure how editing via the UI does a refresh though. Debug logging shows "/System/Configuration/branding" on save to reload the branding.xml but am not seeing that endpoint in the api. Depending on how many users you are talking about you could make api calls for each user to update their policy to disable/enable downloading,

  27. @neik HDR Available formats with and without Dolby vision The Case is what is commonly found in the stream and what MediaInfo looks at. The output is our friendly term such as HDR case "SMPTE ST 2086": output = "HDR10"; break; case "SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible": output = "HDR10"; break; case "SMPTE ST 2094 App 4": output = "HDR10+"; break; case "Dolby Vision / SMPTE ST 2086": output = "DV" + GetHdrFormatProfile(hdrFormatProfile) + " HDR10"; break; case "Dolby Vision / SMPTE ST 2094 App 4": output = "DV" + GetHdrFormatProfile(hdrFormatProfile) + " HDR10+"; break;

  31. Thanks for the quick reply. I thought something was wrong, usually I can deploy this fairly quickly but it's just not happening. I tried to update the container and that didn't work so I nuked the hole thing from the file system and tried from scratch, that also just sits there and does nothing. Hopefully the updated image will get me going again with the new beta. Cheers.

  33. Hi Funny, We must be taking about different things.... Emby provides a "Music Service" to all users that have access, you login with your userid etc. I don't use Spotify, so let's for comparison pick Amazon Music or iTunes. Like Spotify, major players in the space. Emby- I log in to emby click on the playlist tab and I see every playlist that any user on the system created, Amazon I log in to Amazon, click on the playlist tab. and I see ONLY the playlists created by me (or for me ). If Amazon worked like emby. There would be millions(?) of playlists on this tab. Every playlist that any user on the system created. I don't always rely on the "other players do it this way" for justification. But in this case emby should follow a more standard convention. Thanks, Vicpa.

  35. It's not what is on the list that matters. It's the list that matters. Fair, but the community is still left in the blank on what's being worked on. Also, a forum has to be by far the worst form of managing requests, workflows or pretty much anything. I guess what I am trying to say is, that some transparency (or structure) to these things would be welcomed by the community. Very interesting, would love to hear more but not entirely sure if you are trying to make a point in favour or against private playlists? Either way, for me it is the only thing that is separating me from moving my music library to Emby, there is no need for everyone to see my 15 playlists. Not to mention the extra confusion and overall navigation issues it would cause.

  38. I found searching around that Luke mentioned he posted updated 4.7.1.0 versions so I downloaded it again and the file sizes were different by 100k, Installed it but it still showed the same sub version -704070100. I restarted the NAS clean and started replace all images. This AM everything was there across all three clients. Not saying somehow permissions didn't get messed up but don't understand how on 1 client everything showed, on another some were missing, and different ones were missing on a 3rd. I did see that the emby web clients were 2 different versions. Anyway, close this one out something along the way fixed it and it's back to normal and thanks for everyone's help. And oh Luke, part 2 about the transcoding path showing up as the default in the log when it's not is still present as above. Just verified it again

  39. In fact, this is something which I'm thinking about for a long time already (means years), but there are quite a few considerations involved: (random order) Privacy: Sensitive Data in Logs For a (way too) long time, we had sensitive data in the logs, even things like login credentials to external services, where it turned out that some hackers were regularly scanning log files on this platforms to publish such credentials on piracy sites and our users where wondering why they were regularly kicked out from m3u streams. An automated mechanism would have voided even the last bit of control for users to redact their logs manually before posting. This was a showstopper for me to proceed as as long as we don't have automatic sanitation in place. ==> Now we have sanitation, and when that is perfected, it's no longer an issue Encrypted Transmission of Support Data? There was an idea to have the server encrypt the collected data package in a way that only "we" can decrypt and view the data, but there are three problems with that approach: Users who are submitting the data would not be able to review what they have sent Submitting users cannot be sure what "we" means exactly and who would get access to their data It would negate the whole concept of having a community with users helping other users (which wouldn't be possible anymore) ==> We don't want to do this Initial Questionnaire Should be Included In order to improve the effectivity of support operations (in the specific case of playback/transcoding issues), it would be very important to have some initial questions answered without us needing to ask each time (e.g. does it work with hw accel disabled, does it work without subtitles, does it happen with a specific, some or all files, etc.) Ideally, the feature would then automatically create a new forum topic (or amend an existing one). But previously, this would have required to enter your forum credentials into Emby server (or the Diagnostics plugin providing that kind of feature), which is of course something that smells, and I understand everybody who wouldn't want to make this connection between server and forum account. ==> Since a recent forum update, it supports OAuth login, so it would be possible that the browser can authenticate via OAuth to the forums and make that post without Emby Server (or the plugin) being involved Log Handling There's an other problem with this method of creating support information packages: It is putting the user aside from the process and it may include a lot of unneeded and unrelated logs. Currently, users are often able to preselect and post just those logs that are relevant for the actual issue. Without that pre-selection it can be much more difficult for us to understand where we need to look at and looking at many logs is no fun. After looking at four or five I've often already forgot about the first one. ==> In the recent past, we have improved the tooling at our side to be able to better manage reading and understanding of submitted logs Summary Meanwhile, most of the hindering parts have been improved or been resolved. I think this will come in one or another form, I'm just not sure exactly how and when...

  41. This is purely an oversight. We do not want you to press more keys. We want to mimic the native Roku experience. You will not have to retrain your fingers. Please give us some time to adjust to feedback. We listen to you guys. Thanks for giving us clues where we need to do better. We want you to be happy because it makes us happy. Thank for choosing Emby. Any other concerns? Did we drop the ball anywhere else? Do not feel the need to pull punches. We want honest feedback. Thank you.

  44. You’re kidding cnwinger, yes? It seems to me that the Emby team don’t really care about us AppleTV users. This is a (basic) feature that makes Emby completely unusable for large library users on AppleTV and yet it remains ‘on the list’. That’s how important we are to Emby. I held out as long as I could but recently bought a lifetime Plex subscription. I don’t like Plex as much as Emby but they have a product that works. Somehow they managed to do what Emby says is very, very difficult. Hmmmmmmm…..

  47. I'm considering to create an h265 version of my movies for remote streaming that allows a decent quality with a low bitrate, However there is a potential problem if the client can't direct play the video stream and the server transcode from a h265 version, that could potentially overload my server with multiple streams. My request is to have an option to disable transcoding for h265 codec, so if the client can't direct play the stream the server switch to transcode the h264 file. I know that Emby choose the better version to play but if the user manually selected the h265 version the server will transcode that version.
