In fact, this is something which I'm thinking about for a long time already (means years), but there are quite a few considerations involved: (random order) Privacy: Sensitive Data in Logs For a (way too) long time, we had sensitive data in the logs, even things like login credentials to external services, where it turned out that some hackers were regularly scanning log files on this platforms to publish such credentials on piracy sites and our users where wondering why they were regularly kicked out from m3u streams. An automated mechanism would have voided even the last bit of control for users to redact their logs manually before posting. This was a showstopper for me to proceed as as long as we don't have automatic sanitation in place. ==> Now we have sanitation, and when that is perfected, it's no longer an issue Encrypted Transmission of Support Data? There was an idea to have the server encrypt the collected data package in a way that only "we" can decrypt and view the data, but there are three problems with that approach: Users who are submitting the data would not be able to review what they have sent Submitting users cannot be sure what "we" means exactly and who would get access to their data It would negate the whole concept of having a community with users helping other users (which wouldn't be possible anymore) ==> We don't want to do this Initial Questionnaire Should be Included In order to improve the effectivity of support operations (in the specific case of playback/transcoding issues), it would be very important to have some initial questions answered without us needing to ask each time (e.g. does it work with hw accel disabled, does it work without subtitles, does it happen with a specific, some or all files, etc.) Ideally, the feature would then automatically create a new forum topic (or amend an existing one). But previously, this would have required to enter your forum credentials into Emby server (or the Diagnostics plugin providing that kind of feature), which is of course something that smells, and I understand everybody who wouldn't want to make this connection between server and forum account. ==> Since a recent forum update, it supports OAuth login, so it would be possible that the browser can authenticate via OAuth to the forums and make that post without Emby Server (or the plugin) being involved Log Handling There's an other problem with this method of creating support information packages: It is putting the user aside from the process and it may include a lot of unneeded and unrelated logs. Currently, users are often able to preselect and post just those logs that are relevant for the actual issue. Without that pre-selection it can be much more difficult for us to understand where we need to look at and looking at many logs is no fun. After looking at four or five I've often already forgot about the first one. ==> In the recent past, we have improved the tooling at our side to be able to better manage reading and understanding of submitted logs Summary Meanwhile, most of the hindering parts have been improved or been resolved. I think this will come in one or another form, I'm just not sure exactly how and when...2 points

I currently have a plugin called Comskipper that uses EDL files to skip commercials. EDL files contain lines that contain time markers, and an action to take. For example: 15.3 16.7 1 420 822 3 Which indicates to mute the audio from 15.3 to 16.7 seconds, and skip the commercial from 420 to 822 seconds. Right now it only skips commercials, but assuming there is a way for a plugin to mute audio via the remote control interface like it fast forwards for commercial skips now I could look into adding that functionality as a test. And if it works well maybe make that its own plugin. You would be on the hook for creating the EDL file with the "bad word" markers like above. I'll check if that functionality exists tonight, unless @ebr checks in and knows off the top of his head You can read up on that plugin here2 points

Quick check of different codecs and I don't see any issues. Default flag is working too. All seems good on my end2 points

This is one of the reasons why I like to keep HD/UHD versions in seperated libraries. Emby's picking choice isn't always the one I would like to see (e.g. transcoding example above).2 points

Most of the time one uses the search to just search for Movie Titles or a quick way to access a TV Series. But some search terms flood one with actors, trailers, or even episodes of a TV serial. Not that they are wrong and sometimes you want to see them, and i fact I want to keep actors, trailers and episodes; just not in the default search (but maybe having the option to search for that too) Best Regards1 point

You are entitled to your opinion, and I am sure you are right for you. But that does not apply to everyone and I doubt anyone asked. This is a request by those of us who (obviously) do care about the issue. If they are just words, then, you should complain to Emby forum admins as such language we want to get rid of is not allowed on this forum as well. Along with many other places in life. Recent quote from Luke: "Hi, please refrain from profanity as this is a family friendly environment. ". Which exactly matches what we are asking for!1 point

so why you do not ask synology support team to find an acceptable workaround with permissions. do you realise this is "nonsense" to the proof of concept of incoming tcp connections in ipv6. as public https port and local https port MUST be the same. it should be only one parameter for https when talking with ipv61 point
-
Hi, it's not that simple because the port number is also defined in the Synology package manifest, which gives us some special permission with the system.1 point

I think I might have posted about this in another thread but I'd also like to see some sort of option to have Emby read the subtitles of a movie/TV show and just mute the audio when a swear word is detected. I'm 10,000% OK if the entire sentence is muted even if there's only one swear word in it. As an adult, I'd love for my children to watch Stranger Things with me but after season one, the executives involved in this show caved to pressure from the actors and allowed their characters to start swearing like sailors. I lived through the 80's as a teen and have talked to people that grew up in major cities, and rural areas, during that time and we all say the same thing about that show ......... NONE of us swore like these kids do. It's beyond excessive. Same for HBO's Westworld. I'm so sick and tired of non-stop profanity in shows and movies, especially TV shows. What I've been doing is bringing the files into a video editor and just manually muting audio and deleting entire scenes of some content I consider objectionable. Which leads me to a question that is a bit off topic but, can anyone recommend a Windows/Linux video editor that can _EASILY_ handle MKVs?1 point

I said "used", not "using", but AFAIR in AirVPN WebUI Client area there's a Port Forwarding section where you can pick any of the available free ports to forward - and that same port you will enter in Emby's Network settings, as http (or https, if you're setting secure connection) port. No ports need to be open in your router.1 point

Especially when shows have alternate langauge audio. Most of those shows will do an extended credit sequence that lists all the voice actors for each language. I've seen it on D+, as well as Nflix. The newest season of Stranger Things is a good example of that. Each episode has extended credit sequences.1 point

I always mark the HD audio track (or the best track) as default and tell my wife if using the Shield to always make sure to use the default track because it will sound better. If using anything else, then select the other audio track. That way I don't have to teach her to know each codec. It also helps if you have Emby remember last audio track used because the one which pops up may not be the one flagged as default.1 point

I have been using cloudflare and nginx for ages with no issue. @pir8radio's config pretty much. No changed for ages. Tonight my users cant connect. Emby cant connect. my sonarr/radarr also cant connect, so not an emby issue. I get a 400 Bad Request. The SSL certifate error below that and nginx below that. I have restarted nginx, checked its logs etc etc - I dont know if this is a cloudflare issue at all ? This has all just worked for me, so when it goes bad, I have no idea where to look. Any ideas on the below errors from the nginx logs : 2022/05/31 23:04:45 [error] 386#386: *213 OCSP_check_validity() failed (SSL: error:2707307D:OCSP routines:OCSP_check_validity:status expired) while requesting certificate status, responder: ocsp.cloudflare.com, peer: 104.16.133.229:80 2022/05/31 23:04:46 [error] 386#386: *216 OCSP_check_validity() failed (SSL: error:2707307D:OCSP routines:OCSP_check_validity:status expired) while requesting certificate status, responder: ocsp.cloudflare.com, peer: 104.16.132.229:80 2022/05/31 23:04:48 [error] 386#386: *218 OCSP_check_validity() failed (SSL: error:2707307D:OCSP routines:OCSP_check_validity:status expired) while requesting certificate status, responder: ocsp.cloudflare.com, peer: 104.16.132.229:80 2022/05/31 23:06:09 [crit] 386#386: *220 connect() to [2606:4700::6810:85e5]:80 failed (99: Address not available) while requesting certificate status, responder: ocsp.cloudflare.com, peer: [2606:4700::6810:85e5]:80 2022/05/31 23:06:09 [crit] 386#386: *220 connect() to [2606:4700::6810:84e5]:80 failed (99: Address not available) while requesting certificate status, responder: ocsp.cloudflare.com, peer: [2606:4700::6810:84e5]:80 2022/05/31 23:06:10 [error] 386#386: *220 OCSP_check_validity() failed (SSL: error:2707307D:OCSP routines:OCSP_check_validity:status expired) while requesting certificate status, responder: ocsp.cloudflare.com, peer: 104.16.132.229:80 2022/05/31 23:06:29 [crit] 386#386: *224 connect() to [2606:4700::6810:84e5]:80 failed (99: Address not available) while requesting certificate status, responder: ocsp.cloudflare.com, peer: [2606:4700::6810:84e5]:80 2022/05/31 23:06:30 [error] 386#386: *224 OCSP_check_validity() failed (SSL: error:2707307D:OCSP routines:OCSP_check_validity:status expired) while requesting certificate status, responder: ocsp.cloudflare.com, peer: 104.16.132.229:80 For now to fix this, I have commented the OCSP Stapling stuff in the conf file as such : # OCSP Stapling #ssl_stapling on; #ssl_stapling_verify on; #ssl_stapling_responder http://ocsp.cloudflare.com/; #ssl_trusted_certificate /config/nginx/cf-certs/trusted-chain.pem; # my cert + cloudflare certs combined in 1 file #ssl_ocsp on; #ssl_ocsp_responder http://ocsp.cloudflare.com/; #ssl_ocsp_cache shared:OCSPCache:20m; If anyone has an idea of why this started happening ?1 point

Hi everyone, I just uploaded beta.33 which should fix the log page issue. Release v0.2.0-beta.33 · mregni/EmbyStat (github.com) @Ametz, could you please send me or post your log files for the issues you are having with your sync jobs? Normally the movie sync is fixed, I added some missing media stream types.1 point

The files I filed this for don't have any strange characters in their names, it is all alphanumeric, spaces and the occasional hyphen.1 point

So you don‘t talk about episodes from series, also movies more than one file of the same? Absolutely the same, no. There could be some 3D and none 3D titles but different folders and different filenames. And this was working before the update and after I switched back to the older build. So should be an issue in the build 15.1 point

Just to add some commentary to this. I run my Emby on a DS1821+ and it works fine. It isn't lightning fast compared to my previous system (hosting it on a win 10 PC with very high end hardware) but that's to be expected. As was already mentioned, if you do a lot of transcoding it can be a bit slow but I've been slowly converting my whole media library to the proper video+audio format and the amount of transcodes has gone down significantly. For reference, I run some media at 1080p, most media at 720p and a strong percentage at below 720p (where sourcing higher quality is difficult or the media is not popular and I just store it for collector/backup purposes). I have my server configured for 10 users (usually between 1-4 active at a time) and there is no issues whatsoever. I do have a good amount of ram in my box (32gb) and 2TB SSD for faster loading of images (posters, artists etc.). Without the RAM and SSD upgrade I found my NAS to be a little slower than I'd like but since I've upgraded the experience is quite nice. I never get complaints from any of my users related to lag or loading times.1 point
-
Personally I think EMBY should take the closest resolution and transcode that. Why downscale 4K down to 720p, that's a waste of resources.1 point
-
As long as your videos are prepared so they direct play you won't have to worry about transcoding but only reading from disk and sending. Understanding the difference between GB and GiB. https://docs.ukcloud.com/articles/other/other-ref-gib.html That should help you understand how disk drives and Internet is calculated vs what your OS shows you. 1 TB hard drive would be reported by the OS as 931 GB. Let do some basic math. Let's assume you average video is 8Mbps. If you were streaming 100 of these that would require (without overhead) 800 Mb of data which is probably more than a typical 1 Gb home connection can handle. For starting out I would use 1.5 multiplier. So 75 of those streams = 600 Mb * 1.5=900 Mb which is likely all you get. This is something you will have to work out with your ISP. You disk substation will need to be fast but any zfs or RAID setup should be fast enough. The largest Premiere license you can purchase is 75 devices per server. Keep in mind Emby isn't licensed for commercial use but only for personal use (friends and family).1 point

I should probably leave well enough alone, but what the heck... here's his message to SD (since he's posting emails) Looks to me like a support question for a blocked application. If that could be interpreted as asking why Emby isn't supported (which is answered on our home page, in almost identical language) I will apologize and be more careful in the future. My logs show downloads by Emby and EPG123 (which is often used to bypass application restrictions). There was no mention of Windows Media Center. So internet... did I misunderstand his question and respond inappropriately? (and Gary's correct.. there was no block put on the account, just a refund.. but if you come out and say you're violating our terms, hard to look the other way) Robert1 point
