It is really cool that Emby has the ability to support multiple versions of the same movie. It would be nice to have a setting on the client side to allow the user to set which version should be selected by default. This could be as simple a user-entered string, or it could be a list of detected strings to choose from. It could allow multiple entries and it would choose them in the order entered. On the Kodi side, it would also be nice to get the "Choose the Best Version for Me" option that the Emby app has.2 points

As another former plex "liker"... I'll just say take it slowly... ...it is different and dose not do things the same way you may be used too... ...with always improving features, PLUGIN'S and other user hints, tricks, scripts and tips I'm sure you will find emby better... ...as I have. So please do some reading, But don't shy away from asking here.2 points

I've had 4 & 16 in mine using it for VMs so I know it uses it on a 920+ I've read in forums other results as well. I think it's less a problem on the + and newer models as they see to use 4 & 16s. I had to reset the box so I first moved all the VMs and docker to another machine, pulled the 16 and put a 4 back in it then put the 16 in another laptop. I've also taken both NVMe out of it. So it's stock + 4GB memory right now for testing.2 points

CSS back button fix worked for me, but I have highly custom css. Try it out. button.headerBackButton.headerButton.hide-mouse-idle-tv.md-icon.paper-icon-button-light.headerBackButton-showfullscreen { font-size: 32px; color: #44e355; display: block !important; width: 43px; }2 points

I have a fairly large movie collection (5k+) starting with films from the 1920's and in the absence of "smart" playlists how about a filter by decade option? Filtering by year works, but if I want to watch something from say the 1950's I have to start navigating from the 1930's and work my up to the 1950's which is quite a few number of pages. Another option might be to have Years running vertically much like the alphabet when viewing by title.1 point

Would it be possible to overlay the media title, like small at a corner, for the random images that cycle when you're idle? When I'm searching for something on the phone my wife always asks, "what's that!?" about an image and sometimes I have no idea. Thanks!1 point

Well the new progress update function respects the playback limit from emby server. Min resume percentage etc. Therefore I need to pull those values (via api call) from the Emby server and using them for "manually" Kodi progress status updates. Exactly this query needs Admin privileges for Emby server. I haven't found a better approach yet. I'll release a new version soon, so the "standard" method is still working without admin privileges. The "standard" method: Kodi is in charge to set progress updates. Kodi has its own limits and does not respect the Emby server limits. The "new" method: The plugin is in charge and Kodi's (internal) progress updates are disabled.1 point

Thanks. If you need logs and sample file I can organise that.1 point

I have open sourced a tool that enables emby to support pinyin sorting of movies and TV series There is no problem with self-testing. If anyone think this tool can help you, you can click on a star. https://github.com/hisune/emby_pinyin1 point

Thank you for your answer I think it would be a plus to have private playlists by users or « public » playlists1 point

Moving to a different device and accessing via web now shows the Chapter tabs at the bottom of the window as Happy2Play is seeing them. Not sure why they are not showing up on my original device yet. I still want to bump a request for a chapter list similar to the playlist UI with timestamps, rather than the video-ish UI seen now. Regardless, thanks for the assistance.1 point

When Emby was young (The MediaBrowser days) I was looking for a media manager to put together my already quite large media library. I Tried all that I could find and installed MediaBrowser for a while. However I found MB to be buggy and simply did not work well for me at all. But it was obviously young and clearly had huge possibilities. But I was not willing at that time to expend the effort needed to keep MB working so I looked further for alternatives. I tested Plex and found that it was a great program and did exactly what I needed so I installed it and tested for a while and became so enamored that I purchased a Lifetime Plex Pass to support Plex even though the features unlocked were not of interest to me. Then Plex started to listen to their greed impulses over what their customers wanted and a few years ago they passed my "threshold of tolerable abuse" so I began a new search. I almost did not even try the new Emby because of the bitter taste left by my experience with MediaBrowser. I did try Emby and I have never really found anything truly wrong whith Emby so I migrated virtually everything over to Emby except I did keep a Plex server running because I had helped other folks to install Plex and I wanted to be able to help them when needed. I was so happy with Emby that I bought the lifetime to support Emby and I actually do use at least one of the "paid" features in "Live TV" but I would have bought lifetime even if it unlocked nothing of interest for me. The people I helped to install Plex started becoming very upset by Plex's greed so they started migrating to Emby and finally just last month (Due to Plex's crappy "Discover" feature) the last one completed their upgrade from Plex to Emby. So I completely wiped everything "Plex" from my server computer systems and I even stopped following the Plex forums or blog(s). Emby is NOT perfect and some of its abilities I do not use at all but I find nothing even close in the client/server media manager family. One more truly important "feature" where Emby beats Plex (and every other media manager I have found) is customer support and responsiveness. Although there would be some advantage (and many disadvantages) to actual live phone/chat support the way Emby has implemented their forum support is about as good as any I have found and we do not have to deal with unknowledgeable support people reading from a script and we usually get a response from someone high up in the Emby structure very quickly, sometimes even in the middle of local night. I have had my disagreements with Emby (Emby still will not acknowledge that I am always right ) some still ongoing but Emby does listen while Plex became deaf to their users many years ago. As far as the use differences between Plex and Emby they are not really as major as some people say/believe but Emby is different. I suggest simply installing Emby (The folder/naming that worked for Plex should work without problems for Emby but, like Plex, Emby can be very persnickety about naming particularly TV shows. But, again, if it works for Plex it should work for Emby. The last family I helped to move from Plex to Emby had to make no changes to their library for the move to work. If you have questions you can ask in the appropriate forum and you will receive a good answer pretty quickly. I do have one strong suggestion if you have questions be as through as possible and include all relevant data in your post. Some of the Emby folks get a bit anal about what they need to answer questions. Just give them what they ask for and if you can do it before they ask so much the better. I think you will be happy with Emby over Plex. I know I am.1 point

Technically the back button does exist, just not in windowed mode only fullscreen. Thought we got it back in 4.7.0.60 but gone again in 4.7.1.0. But knew we would have multiple topics on this.1 point

If I were doing this again right now I'd purchase 1 TB NVMe that's fast. Doesn't have to be a speed deamon or top of line but keep the write speed over 2 Gb. I would use that drive for everything except Transcoding, with one possible exception I'd test. I would take the money spent for the 1st stick and spend it this way. Purchase a 16GB Memory Stick and upgrade your memory. If you have an 8Gb stick already call it good. If you have a 4Gb stick installed for a total of 8 pull it and replace with 16Gb stick. Now search Amazon for the cheapest 256MB-500MB NVMe drive. Yep I said that. You want a drive to pound and not care if you kill it. Including shipping purchase the cheapest NVMe that writes at 2Gb+ and 1/4 to 1/2 GB in size. Use this as a separate pool all it's own and put Emby's Transcode files here, same as the first, we need a test. Record 2 or 3 shows. Now start playing1 of them. Does it work? If not, do the test again with 2 recordings, while playing back 1. Does it work? For it to transcode. How fast does it transcode? Now round two of test. Change the DVR path. It was on the bigger drive but move it to the small beater drive. Do the same test as before. It probably worked a little better one of these way. Change it if needed to the faster DVR recording path.1 point

After testing several movies everything works great. I can select the second audio and the movie is playing without hiccups. The acceptable limit of my TV in video bit-rate is 60 mbps from my experience (only 2-3 hiccups due to buffer issue of the TV, even with usb 3 to gigabit lan cable, in a 3 Hour movie). Everything below that plays flawlessly! Also after the upgrade of the server to 4.7.0.60 and the addition of the Trailers plugin the experience has been skyrocket!! Perfect product with continuous support!!!1 point

Keep in mind a true Multi-Cast is only good for the network it's broadcast on short of having L2/L3 routers or multi-cast proxies. So I'd doubt "Multicast" in the true sense of the word would be used to create a watch together type feature as we would want it to work with existing clients remote or local. Personally, I'd envision this working probably different then many of you. I'd envision a web chat type program with private channels and a lobby. You could have random anytime watch together where someone is in the lobby and another person drops by and decides to watch something with you. You of course could also schedule a watch together event for the future and send out invitations to others using your private room. In that room you're the moderator with control over playing the video, stop, pause, etc but could delegate or grant access to any others or everyone. The video would play taking up most of the screen with a side panel for ongoing chat. Ideally you could cast to an Emby client or Chromecast as normal. That would allow you to watch on any device you want while still being connected to the watch party chat. Done this way none of the normal Emby clients would need to be "watch together" aware as all the control is web based which is far better suited for chat. When I say chat it could be just text based or audio or full blown audio and video. That would be up to the moderator to control assuming the admin has the feature available to use. What would be cool as well would be queuing up little videos that play before the main event. Like the 5 minutes to movie time. 2 minutes, grab your popcorn. Maybe have another for 2 or 3 minutes breaks that might be needed were you click the 2, 3, 4, 5 button after pausing which queues up the intermission video but starts immediately after resume where you were. Would something like that work? Of the different existing watch together type utils others have what you're favorite or what you would consider the gold standard?1 point

For size, I would go with Cayars' recommendation of 1TB. I'm running 512mb, because I had one available and have no issues. But if I was starting fresh there is little reason not to go 1TB. As for what gen, that is probably limited by your Synology model. There's plenty of information in the thread from Cayars' testing, but it's not worth paying for newer tech if your box can't take advantage of it. I've also seen no need for a heatsink in my box, but I'm the primary user out of 4 and I'm hardly taxing the read/writes.1 point

Yes I certainly can port the DvbLink plugin. I just wanted to see that was actually demand for it first given that the underlying software is defunct.1 point

If you prefer to host the apk on a server such as Synology NAS and install the file to your Shield from your NAS you can do that too. This is good if you have multiple Shields or just want to have the apk in a central location. 1. Download apk file to NAS Create shared folder Place apk files in shared folder 2. Enable smb3 on NAS Make smb3 max protocol Click Save and Apply 3. Mount NAS on Shield Settings Device Preferences Storage Mount Network Storage 4. Install apk file Start X-plore from Shield Navigate to the shared folder on NAS Select apk and open Scroll down and click Install1 point

Yes I previously commented on the introduction of a purple tinge but was politely ignored https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/96849-46037-dark-theme-color-has-changed-again/&do=findComment&comment=1008411 But more to the point, if you want a black theme, then you should choose 'Black' and not 'Dark' the Shield ATV app themes have never matched the web app.1 point

I really don't think this particular request is the right answer to your issue. The multi-version feature is designed for multiple qualities of the same item as opposed to different cuts. While it can be used for different cuts, it has these types of limitations. Instead of continuing to try and satisfy both of those situations with the same feature, I really think we need a different way to handle multiple cuts because marking one of these as "default" then negates some of the functionality that this feature is actually designed for.1 point

Oh yes, I have taken issue with that in the past as well. Even if the link is different it is considered a duplicate I believe.1 point
