  1. It should be back up any day now and this will all be over.

  2. That's where the core version that @Cheesegeezer was explaining to you a few pages back comes in. Currently there are two separate implementations of this feature. The one you have been configuring and testing is the plugin version which was created by a bunch of clever community folk. The other "core" version is the official implementation of it created by the Emby dev team that is currently only present as a hidden option in the latest Beta version of the Server, not as a plugin. The latter (core) version already has the "Intro Skip" button implemented on screen (which is what you want by the sounds of it). Unfortunately, the two do not currently share data, so the detected intros you have completed with the plugin version over the last few days are not compatible with the core version (and vice-versa) It's expected that as the core version matures and reaches the Stable server version, this plugin will become a tool to enhance the core detected intros with some additional functionality. Hope that makes sense.

  4. Could you allow users to customize the order of movies in collections instead of only having it by alphabetical or by release date? Example: I want to have a collection of Batman movies, both animated and motion pictures but want the motion pictures together followed by all the animated ones. With the current order options, this isn't possible. Thanks!

  5. POSTERS "Posters" is in an Alpha stage of development. (was excited to share with the community, but there will be some fun things to fix) It is an application written in Javascript which will connect to Emby and display the a poster for the media item currently playing on a device. This app is hosted in the web browser. It can be run on Raspberry Pi, stuck to the back of an old computer monitor, mounted on the Wall. It can be opened in Chrome using 'Kiosk' mode, and the display set to portrait. More Raspi integration terminal commands to come. (Anyone with Raspi knowledge? It's time to shine!) It uses https://animate.style/ animations, so there is, literally, an bunch of possibilities in layout, and animations to make the posters app unique to each users tastes... More to come. How to use: Unzip the folder to the desktop (anywhere) Right click "index.html" Open in your favorite browser Discover your server Login Start to play a movie on one of your emby ready devices Watch the posters come alive TODO: A Landscape view Configuration options Terminal Commands for Raspberry Pi (kiosk browser, start in portrait, load html on start) Fix multiple streams cause images to reload. Maybe this is a good thing, we just have to slow it down. Take advantage of all the different animations available in animatecss libraries November 3 1. Added full screen capabilities, 2. landscape mode, 3. hidden fly-out nav for future options. November 2 1. First Upload DOWNLOAD: PosterApp_v0.22.zip

  6. I am switching over from a Win7 box running MBC to Chromecast dongles. With the Win7 box I had a HDMI to Cat6 setup that allowed me to stream to up to 4 displays/TVs simultaneously. It was great while it lasted, but involved stapling cables to the ceiling to run it from room to room - plus it has borked Can there be an option to multi-cast to several receivers at once? i.e. simultaneously play to Chromecast dongles in my office and living room and kitchen simultaneously so i can walk from room to room without stopping and restarting the movie or show all the time? I realize that bandwidth could POTENTIALLY be an issue, but i have a fill gigabit network and a multi-port NAS so that really is the least of my worries... Thank you!

  7. on the list of todo’s It maybe something we could discuss with them, however we don’t want everyone using our hard work, but the new emby core structure of intros will help with this alot.

  8. We are off topic, but personally I don't think there is a best device for direct play broadcast right now. With the right Emby server that might not matter but there are too many variables in what people watch and how they watch (auto framerate, audio pass through etc). I tend to recommend less sophisticated devices and when its on sale I do like the TiVo myself as a client, but not for their software, since I deTiVo it. The Android 10 update made it a little better and the number keys really help. Shield fanboys might wonder why I don't respond with it, simply because for me the high price, crappy PVR remote and no AC-4 audio aren't a great mix in 2022. More on topic, I just tried Emby on the TiVo 4K and it is way, way more polished then the RPi client (which I also just tried today). I didn't see how to get comskip working but I also didn't spend a lot of time on that. The remote number keys do work on the Android TV, but it seems only in the guide. There is an OSD for changing channels directly but it doesn't seem to do anything except flash a channel icon. So after this brief testing, I will stick with my comments that Emby clients are an important part of NextGen PVR especially when you isolate Emby they really need to be better sooner. Martin

  10. Probably too late for this but...please consider adding an option to side load the time marker data with the media or add to nfo. For people who have more than one emby server, it means scanning media for intros only once. It would also make it much easier to recover from, say, an os drive loss in which the emby data was lost with regards to amount of time needed to recover all features. (I know, I know backups, but it still happens.) I really wish thetvdb would add intro marker time stamps. I know not all media is timed exactly alike so this wouldnt be as accurate but a lot less resource intensive.

  14. No, but there are two factors here. Are we just talking about displaying images or is Emby getting the image for the first time? If it is getting for the first time then I would have to ask do you have "Download images in advance" enable per library? Download images in advance By default, most images are only downloaded when requested by an Emby app. Enable this option to download all images in advance, as new media is imported. This may cause significantly longer library scans.

  15. This is a sad state of affairs. With an app such as ES File Explore or File Commander one doesn't even need a USB stick or physical access to the device; one does need to be able to access the device via a remote and to download the apk on a computer on the same network though.

  16. It doesn't really impede development, but there are several beta testers who don't even know how to sideload and refuse to try. This also gives ebr time to work on other projects, like the recent Roku beta. I use both apps and so far this all hasn't stopped me from watching anything.

  17. I always thought that having a fully open source option to compete with Roku or Google TV is a bigger deal than people realize maybe. And we have been close for so long. It's really good to see someone on the Emby team cracking out on RPi. @cayars Sorry for your loss. That is a really touching story, thanks for sharing that too. I agree! I think some of what you said went over my head though, what do you think is the best device to get that? The 'TiVo 4k streaming stick' has a remote with the number pad, which works in Emby. That's Android TV, I can't endorse it otherwise.

  18. I think it is more likely related to changes in the transport layer somewhere and that is just manifesting as a problem in that decoder (due to data not coming in as fast or something).
    1 point
  19. True, but in order to start playback after any length of time being paused, Emby has to create a "recording" to play from when time shifted. I'm just saying it would be nice to allow this "recording" to be accessed from another device within a reasonable time limit.

  20. And watching netflix also doesn't have this feature or amazon prime. You will just get watch next episode. Please understand that the technology is there to chromaprint, which is what is being used. however.... where do you stop, because a lot of credit end music is different for each show, so you end up with partial match on 3 shows out of 1 season. The alternative is to black detect when the credit music fingerprinting fails. Surely you must see the challenges posed by all the variables to contend with. One final method would be to use OCR, which i have proved works, but is a very intensive process for the system where some frames can take as long as 10 seconds to detect the text where there is a lot of color information. I used Absolutely Fabulous to test this because it has scrolling text credits (90's era) and also moving pictures in the background. It's easy enough to put an editor in for end credits, but what is actually being shown after the credits??? a sneak peak for the next show that you are going to watch anyway... or one last joke? is it really that important If we can please the majority of people most of the time thats a win if you ask me. Sorry you feel disappointed, it's your decision to use or not use the plugin/core versions. On a side note, you will no be able to port the db to the synology - after you set it up all your Libraries and items will have newly generated GUID's and our database uses these Id's to store our information. This is on our todo list to allow for porting of information, but not got round to it yet.

  22. I wasn't meaning the RPi as a server, I too am surprised how good a server it can be when no transcoding is required. I know a browser interface is not going to cut it as an for anything other than IPTV, so I am now eagerly waiting to fire up the Emby Theatre on it. Generally users don't like running native Linux on an RPi so I will try your image. I still have reservations for this as a "perfect" replacement for Kodi since their are great clients for ARM too and I feel the ODroid N2+ with CE for PVR is far superior to the RPi4 and native ARM OS playback won't cut it. The N2 it is also my Linux client of choice. Thanks for your story. My interest in PVR is primarily because of small clients like these that offer high quality native playback. For my backstory my emveepee username came about when I was writing software for the Hauppauge MVP https://www.cnet.com/reviews/hauppauge-mediamvp-review/ using something called mvpmc http://www.mvpmc.org/ . Before PVR I just wanted to get Internet Radio using something called SlimServer into my stereo, then I released I didn't even need SlimServer . My interest developed into supporting PVR clients for MythTV and VDR and then for at the time GBPVR for Windows. Back then playing MPEG2 SD on a PC was a challenge so this type of device was important. Eventually when HD and H264 became important and MKV containers became popuilar a device called the PopcornHour came out https://www.linuxjournal.com/article/10215 I was fortunate that the vendor allowed me sign an NDA and write native clients for it. It took many years for an Intel PC to catch up and that device was legend for scene support. We never got MythTV working well on it, but GBPVR was great, and some users still use it. Another old PC PVR software company SageTV used (un-credited) mpvmc based software and this led to their family of products for the MVP and other dedicated clients that are still well loved by their community. Anyway, more on topic, IMO a NextGen PVR needs a NextGen direct play client and it shouldn't need to be an 'HTPC' or a Shield. Cheap newer Android devices and Apple can be excellent clients, (I have reservations about Roku for direct play so can't say excellent) but the devices that CoreElec and LibreElec support are great too especially for direct play support of many containers. I also find there is nothing like a remote with a number pad when watching Live TV put that is a personal preference. Martin

  23. If i can explain… the core version is closed source and OSD functions are not available in the API. We as plugin developers can’t place a button that interacts directly in the core Video OSD, however we did have a button that displayed on many clients with different visual pleasantries. We could look to brink this back. Thanks Sean, very well explained. I would like to add, if I may… at the moment its unclear how much of the plugin will be used. As far as it stands now.. only intros detection and a button is on the horizon as a release.. no editors, no autoskip, no stats, no chapter markers no credit skip, etc which leads me on actually, you can skip using the chapter markers with the plugin in the video OSD

  24. Correct. On Windows, all CPU gens are working fine. No need to set kernel parameters or activate GuC/HuC, no need to care about firmware, kernel versions or whatever. Just install the latest graphics drivers from the Intel website and you're fine.

  25. Yes, but there are Alder Lake issues (and partially Tiger and maybe other partial Lakes as well), which are only fixed in 5.18_RC2 - which means: not even released yet. I'm feeling sick, just when I try to think about how long this will take until it will arrive in all the distros. Back to your question: yes, we can see whether we can add that, but first of all, we'll need to see how all these things will settle. This will probably cause some amount of support handling, and what I do not want to add to the story lines is "I chose "Low Power Mode" but it doesn't work" What adds to this is that (almost) all of the parameters you see when clicking the gear mechanic button, are based on detection, e.g. the "Profile Limit" or "Encoding Preset" dropdowns show only those entries that are supported. Being unable to detect the availability of low-power mode in a reasonable way (yet) and display the option unconditionally, would break that logic a bit. Let's see how things develop..

  27. How did you change a user's Emby Connect password? An Emby Connect account isn't your account but the other person's. You shouldn't be touching their Emby Connect account as it's their account for support, forums and other things besides just Emby Connect. It's an optional login that can be used as well to access services but should only be used when needed. It's not meant to be used for daily login. Same way you setup any user but without the optional Emby Connect username name. From web console on Server click the Users menu. Fill out each of the 4 pages/tabs of info to setup their username and password as well as access to features and parental controls if needed. What Emby Connect is nice for is a substitute login method that saves you from having to know the server address, username or password as setup on that server. Take for example myself who is constantly helping others with issues. Having an admin add my EC username to a problem account normally allows me to see or experience the problem by virtue of my EC account being added to the account. I may have 30 servers available to me as I work on issues with other admins. I try and keep the list as small as possible and sits at 5 right now. 4 of those are my servers. Granted that's not typical and sort of unique to my situation. What is more typical is a person having their own server while they are given access to a friend or two's servers. In this case it may make sense to login to your friends server via EC so you don't have to try and remember the username or password on each server. You could still login directly to your own server with the username/password that's set on your account. Some people try to use EC to make it easier to get to your Server vs remembering IPs. That's not a good way to handle that. That's the job of DNS. You get a domain name or signup for a free DynDNS account and point that at your server. You would then be doing it the same way as the rest of the Internet. Most home routers have Dynamic DNS built right in. You can create an account on a service then put that info in your router. Anytime your IP changes your router updates the dynamic DNS pointer. With either DDNS or a domain name you enter that information on the proper line in Emby Server (network menu->External domain: field). Then after restarting Emby the console will show up using your DDNS or domain name. All users can then use that name which is much easier to remember in order to access your server. If a person only has access to one Emby Server there's not really a need for them to even know about Emby Connect as all they need is your domain name or (IP/port) to connect and the username/password you setup for them on your server. I setup users with a hard password to type that's also long. When I've given them instructions how to change their password you can bet they follow the directions to get away from the painful password entry. PS: I've added to my list a couple knowledge base articles I'll edit to help clarify & explain the optional nature of EC. What it's really useful for (multiple server access) as well as provide more information and links to the sections on DDNS and Domain setup for those using it mainly as an alternative to IP addresses.

  28. Let's put aside the containerization aspect. Even without, the current situation is really unfortunate. Even Intel wasn't able to name any rules for firmware versions, kernel versions and GPU gens, which are supposed to work together and which aren't. So, to answer your question: there's not much to detect, when you don't know _what_ you want to detect. For the immediate future, the only concern is Jasper Lake and Elkhart Lake, which can do low-power mode only. It doesn't require a command line change, though - when nothing is specified, a qsv encoder will choose automatically, but GuC needs to be enabled.

  29. Not me, a user on the Unraid forums reported that it is not working and I've compiled a custom Kernel module for him with a patch applied for testing purposes that will be integrated in the next RC version from Unraid to fix this issue. Why should it perform worse than other iGPUs? QuickSync and/or VA-API should work on each generation nearly the same, you can always take a look at the QuickSync matrix here: Click It always depends on the use case and how many simultaneous transocdes do you want to run. If you have media files that also need transcoding from the audio stream you have to keep in mind that you maybe run into a CPU bottleneck because it can't keep up with audio transcoding but with throttling turned on you can transcode a few 4K streams I think... Many people on the Unraid forums run such low power chips and have zero issue whatsoever. My Test Server for Unraid is a Asrock J3160-ITX and is also well capable of transcoding a few 4K streams, nothing too fancy but it can do it.

  31. Live TV presently plays great through Emby Server beta using Kodi. I have this installed on a couple laptops and it's working great for me. I just got into the Pi scene right before Christmas and now have 6 of them. One has Windows (Arm 64) installed. I can playback Live TV via Chromium on the Pi but most channels require transcoding as the video drivers still need work. If we had a Theater for Arm Windows build, I would try that but still think better video drivers are needed. I have tried Theater for Linux Debian build on Raspbian Pi, Debian Buster, Debian Bullseye, Ubuntu & DietPi in 32 and 64 builds. The 64 bit version IMHO runs a little smoother using less resources with my favorite being 64 bit DietPi OS. I'm running that for container use in ProxMox as well and have my main Emby server presently using it. I've also tested Kodi I believe on the same OSes in both 32 and 64 bit and this too works ok for me. I've not installed LibreElec or OSMC on any Pi so I have no clue how that would work. Just thinking about the changes Luke has/is making can only help these devices IMHO as it allows more consistent streams with the same handling vs the previous variations. All 6 of my Pis are the same model and configured the same. It's the high end 4B with higher clock rate and 8GB memory. Each is in an Armor case with a small NVMe drive. No need for thumb drives or Micro-SDXC memory cards this way. I installed one Pi less than 3 weeks ago in the Yukon Denali I bought my dad the previous week. He hadn't been able to drive for 2 years due to a broken hip and long rehab and this was the vehicle he could get in and out of the most comfortably without risk of falling. He was like a 17 year old with his first vehicle and everything had to be "just right". He didn't care for the OEM wheel design so I ordered new sick looking chrome wheels with tires attached so I didn't have to deal with that. Added custom running boards and a half step under it to assist him getting in and out. He always like murals on truck back windows and had to have a USMC based one so I ordered and install an Iwo Jima mural he really liked. The last thing he wasn't crazy about was the onboard Entertainment center. He kept commenting he wished it was more like our TVs (he was referring to Emby) so I loaded one of the Pi's NVMe up with movies and shows he liked as well as recordings of old time radio broadcasts he liked to listen to. Got the libraries scanned and then installed it in the truck. It could boot and be streaming in under 30 seconds from power on. Instead of trying to connect the Pi to the entertainment center I instead used a Firestick which worked well. He still had all normal functionality but hitting the AUX button switched it to Emby. I even did a mod to allow playback while driving so he could listen to his stories. He was happy and probably kidding when he said the Denali had everything but TV. I thought he was going to say "kitchen sink". After dinner I grabbed a spare HDHomeRun Quatro, small window antenna (best I had on hand), travel router and short ethernet cable. After wiring up a single 12 volt power line to feed everything I took it out and tried it. About 20 minutes later I was downloading guide data off wifi. I was mostly just goofing around and didn't think it would pull in any channels with that antenna but figured I could pickup a normal vehicle TV antenna the next day. It got 6 channels including the 2 channels he wanted for NCAA Basketball and morning shows. He was still a bit uneasy driving but I think worried about our downhill driveway with cement siding the neighbor calls the "tunnel". He would take morning coffee and toast with his walker out and sit in it watching TV. Same with lunch a couple times. He actually drove it I think 6 times before unexpectedly passing a couple days before Easter. Sorry for the long story but almost done. He was appreciate of everything of course but it wasn't the mural, deck, running lights, new wheels, custom license plate, personalized mats or other things but Emby and the spare gear he fell in love with that made it his. I shared that story as I think it shows I've done a lot of experimenting with the Pi and have used it in some unconventional ways as well as many OS and combinations. Short of not having a Windows ARM build for it to test I've really had no issues TV wise. That goes for using it as server or client using Theater or Kodi. This is all recent testing and I've only used the beta server software best I can remember. I don't know if the experience would be different on the release server or with less powerful Pis but all of my Linux setups have worked really well. If there's any particular setup you know to be a problem I could try and test it. I could limit memory and change the clock rate to match other devices as well if needed.

  37. yes, this is/was the way I was thinking of going, swapping to higher capacity disks. i started to look at prices here in Oz, and surprisingly it seems it would be cheaper to keep my existing NAS and add an expansion unit. I have, presently, a Synology 918+ with 4x8TB disks. Cost of upgrading to 16TB disks is approx. 4x$800 = $3200 Cost of DX517 expansion unit $750. Cost of 4x8TB disks is approx 4x$400 = $1600, total cost $2350 Luckily I'm not a completely quality freak, so I'm happy having most TV shows in 720p x265, ditto movies, which does help slow down my present disks filling up...

  38. TVDB calls it Ikki Tousen in Kyoto as a movie, or in the series lists it as special episode s00e19. I have to admit that I resolved all my anime naming problems by ditching the Anime plug-in and simply naming stuff the way that TVDB was happy with and sticking with TVDB. But you may feel you want additional info that TVDB doesn't provide which I'm happy to do without. Paul

  42. These are really quite unusual but could be handled in one of the suggested ways. The real reason most of these movies were split were due to size limits imposed by either file systems or the physical media at the time they were produced. Neither of those limits really exist anymore so joining the files is the best approach. Given that, spending development time on more "advanced" handling of multipart items doesn't make lot of sense right now with such a limited applicability.

  48. IntroSkip is taking priority atm Let me talk to @chef about this plugin - as he has a LOT on his plate atm so this might be one project too far - but tbh it's not complex and as long as we stick the original scope, then it should be easy to implement. I'll report back if he is able to help at this time.

  49. Ah yes of course - sorry, they will need Mac equivalents. Your best bet is to wait a couple of weeks - If I can get @chef onboard (he's a busy guy!) then compared to what we have been working on with Introskip - this is an extremely simple setup so it would only take a couple of days at most to get into a Plugin I would have thought. So watch this space - this hasn't been abandoned, it's just we all have limited time and are already juggling multiple emby 'projects' plus we all have day jobs! Thanks for your interest !
