So to me - the 'problem' lies with Emby not having the correct settings to allow the full permissions to be set. I can set the 'Allow Only While Using the App' permissions in both X-Plore and VLC - both then allow browsing of the shared Folders - but both will NOT allow playback or even viewing of the Contents of the Folder. As soon as you set the permission to 'Allow All The Time' - bingo, both applications allow browsing of the contents of the shared folders and playback works just fine. Emby does NOT have this permission setting - thus it does not work in Direct File play mode. It CAN see the folders (as proven in the Wireshark trace) - it just can't read the contents of the folders - same as X-Plore and VLC with just those permissions set. So @ebr - Do we know why Emby does not have this 'Allow All the Time' Permission setting ? Is it something the App is in direct control of ? I haven't yet got the 3rd hotfix - but "Restores ability for SMB server to navigate Kodi media files" sounds related to the above issues. @FrostByte @Audiomixer - Do you have the 3rd hotfix yet ?3 points

I just added a metadata editor like the one in Emby. You can now select a group of files and then edit all of their metadata, one file at a time. Buttons cycle you through the selected items. I have disabled saving changes until I finish the GUI. I have to add locks and a few other things. I would like someone to use the GUI and give me suggestions about what needs to be changed. GrimReaper, if you have time, please look at this and give me comments. I know you have thousands of tags, and I would like the GUI to work in that environment. Vic I just added locks. Let me know if the GUI is OK. What should I change or add? EmbyTagApp28d.html2 points

Hi, I would love to have tautulli or equivalent for emby. Especially for people coming from plex, we would love to see something like tautulli. I know there are a few Statistic plugins but i think we all know there is nothing like tautulli out there. I love the way i see people currently watching movies on my server and the details of what is transcoding etc. i know emby also shows ppl watching movies but it isn't the same. I don't get a notification or even see a icon if someone starts to play while i have the emby page open. There is no icon that shows me someone is watching a movie. Tautulli is also open source so if someone has the skills in python to make it work for emby, this would be amazing. For me this is actually really the only reason I hesitate to switch completely. maybe someone can make this happen1 point

I am switching over from a Win7 box running MBC to Chromecast dongles. With the Win7 box I had a HDMI to Cat6 setup that allowed me to stream to up to 4 displays/TVs simultaneously. It was great while it lasted, but involved stapling cables to the ceiling to run it from room to room - plus it has borked Can there be an option to multi-cast to several receivers at once? i.e. simultaneously play to Chromecast dongles in my office and living room and kitchen simultaneously so i can walk from room to room without stopping and restarting the movie or show all the time? I realize that bandwidth could POTENTIALLY be an issue, but i have a fill gigabit network and a multi-port NAS so that really is the least of my worries... Thank you!1 point

Hi @ebr I'm sure you have seen this - but could the 'All Files' configuration detailed on the link below be what we need ? https://developer.android.com/training/data-storage/manage-all-files Explicitly : I'm not an Android Developer - so apologies if it's a lot more complex than this - we just want to try and help to resolve this ..1 point
-
Sure, I use the term figuratively, but the fact you have video being passed over SMB, says the 'Permissions' are there - somehow ..1 point
-
ok - I agree - all evidence there suggests it is using SMB ... I was sorta hoping it wasn't ... So I guess we are back to square one - why does it work for you - and not for anybody else ... Arghhh...1 point
-
Okay, I'm pretty sure it's using SMB When I removed the optional path starting a movie would fail over to HTTP after a few spins When I put the optional path back in my movie would use File access (after about 60 seconds of spinning) Then I turned off Emby server and my movie is still playing 20 minutes into it Looking in my logs on the NAS I don't see playback starting, but when the Shield boots I can see the initial connection. .07 is my Shield 2022-01-29 09:06:55 Info MEDIA-SERVER XXXXXX Connection User [XXXXXX] from [(10.0.0.7)] via [CIFS(SMB3)] accessed shared folder [MyEmbyMedia]. I probably need a better tool, but that would all seem to indicate SMB(3) is being used.1 point

If you are happy to - I guess the biggest clue will be if you remove the (Optional) shared network folder - does it then stop working ? ...1 point

Here is my folder setup on server. MyEmbyMedia is the shared folder on NAS Movies is the subfolder I'm using as my library There is a KB in the link below you may want to look at. If you have further questions ask, though I'm having a difficult time figuring out why it works (at least partially) for me and not others right now Shield TV Direct File Access : Emby1 point
-
So on your NAS, Do you have any tools showing the IP of the connection ? If yes, then any Direct Connection from the Shield will have it's IP address as the SOURCE. If it's actually using HTTP, then it will show the IP address of the NAS - or none at all, as the Emby Server is on the same device (so it's using direct I/O) - no IP stack involved.1 point

Did a reinstall a while back of the linux server ( HD crashed ) and was able to link the drives through NFS and they are now writable!1 point

Yeah, episodes have never been there before because we used to have the "Next up" channel separately. I'll add next up episodes to play next as you play them.1 point

Based on the json payload you pasted above it sure looks to me like the Emby webhook is behaving properly. I assume you looked here. Particularly : Looks like a pretty cool way to easily use the Emby webhooks. Particularly since it will hook right into IFTTT. So your flow is: Emby Server => Sequematic => IFTTT => light bulb in your house1 point

Hi. I believe with the current state of the Nvidia firmware, you do have to re-install applications in order for them to get the proper permissions applied.1 point

At the moment there is no link between a person profile and an artist profile if they are the one and same, for example if i click Prince within my music libraries i get all his songs, albums, appears on and music videos but it does not show any of his movies, documentaries or anything from a mixed library, and the opposite is the case if i click within a film library i get all his films, tv episodes and anything in a mixed library but nothing for music or music video. I think it's logical to somehow merge/link this information if at all possible, sorry if i explained it poorly but i hope you guys get what i mean.1 point

Download removed, newer version below You can use http://media-and-meta.com as a server, its my crappy website and not very fast but it works, it doesn't have a whole backup on it, it has about 3000 Artist, A lot of Album Covers, About 4000 Track Covers, a few hundred Series and some People(Actors) but no Movies at all yet. If you use track covers and get portrait download previews, this was fixed in the beta so will make it later to production server.1 point

Based on all experience so far, no one has been able to play lossless ATMOS from an app via eARC to a receiver. Most likely LG has not yet added this support. This is a little old now, but still relevant. @rbjtech may have some more recent feedback on this topic. Why does the Emby App for my LG TV not play the Dolby Atmos TrueHD Audio without Transcoding? : Emby1 point

Have you tried editing its metadata and adding the word "The" into the 3rd box "Sort Title" ?1 point

I may be wrong but I think DCRL is talking about the home screen of Android TV, not emby itself.1 point

You need to ensure all versions have the TAG. The UI will only tag one version, so you can Split them apart and tag all version (then regroup them) or manually edit nfos if you write nfo files.1 point
-
Do you write nfo files with media? If yes it could be done but a tedious process. You could fetch everything in English Then bulk edit all nfo files adding "<lockedfields>Name</lockedfields>" with something notepadd++ (don't know the regex off the top of head) Scan library Then refetch everything in French. Then as you add media it would only be a single edit of Title and locking the field. Or manually lock Titles as Grim mentioned. If you don't write nfo files this you would have to manually do every item.1 point
-
Currently no as metadata will come from source as a package deal, so French metadata query will use French for all fields.1 point

I was curious about this as well and using the .17 version tested both on my 920+ configured with 8GB RAM and no read/write cache. I only did a few "wide open" tests to see what big differences I'd see. For example I turned off transcode throttle and forced transcoding so I could see the fps. I also did some downloads to see what bitrate I could download at. It's was closer than I thought it would be but still a 3 to 5% difference. However, when I kicked off a backup on another computer backing up to the Synology the difference were more like 6 to 8% as the latency was higher from Docker which makes sense as it's running in a NAT which is always going to add a bit of latency on it's own. I also setup Pihole running as a docker container and this to had a similar if not worse affect as the backup did. When Pihole was active it's effecting the docker network. I was obviously pushing things looking for differences which are there but in real-world use likely wouldn't be noticeable unless you're already on the border of a performance problem. In hind sight I should have tried recording a couple of DVR programs while watching one live but I didn't think of it at the time. The setup to get Emby running in docker is a lot harder and will make figuring out security issues a bit trickier compared to a straight up point and click install. Docker is great for complex setups that someone has already done much of the internal setup for you but in this case you just pile layers (disk, network, ports) on top of Emby making it harder to setup for remote use, GPU use, and file permissions. Updates are going to be done differently with docker as well. I myself really don't see the point in using docker on Synology as it's not bringing you any advantages that are beneficial to serving up media or making it easy to administer. Well actually I can see one advantage that could come into play and that would be not using /volume1/Emby (DSM6) and /volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer (DSM7) so you wouldn't have had an issue specifically with directory structures changes upgrading from DSM 6 to 7 but would still require upgrades to binaries I think so maybe a wash. In either case having a backup of the Emby folder configuration would be protection against any outside changes of this nature. That's my take on it after having tried it. Carlo1 point

We've got it resolved. We're just trying to get the update through LG review. Thanks.1 point

Yeah, I swore I had seen complaints like this before but my searches came up blank until @Harblar posted about it the other day. I can understand why you might want to parse controllers for the Web app UI but not sure why it needs to be in the Server Dashboard/settings as well.1 point

For those running the Emby Server stable release, now you can install directly from Synology Package Center: This is the easiest possible method of installation. Please note the Synology Package Center version of Emby Server may sometimes run a little behind due to the Synology review process. For this reason we'll still be making downloads available on our website for manual installation: https://emby.media/download View the full article1 point

Since some people can be both singers and actors, it would be great if the artist and person could be linked so we can see all of that 1 persons songs, movies, tv shows, and anything else that they've done in their careers.1 point

Thankyou Luke. I know there is a lot of discussion about slow load times of channels etc. i dont have too much of an issue with this as i have switched off the function to pause live tv & just direct stream it. I get channel changes of approx 5 - 6 seconds like this. It works ok. When i do switch on the option so that i can pause live TV, channel switching is very very slow, hence why i played about with VLC & MX player. Its not a major issue whatsover - TBH id rather have slower channel changes, and the development of Emby to be focussed on things like the ability to create channel groups. Really looking forward having the ability to filter channel lists into movies, kids tv, radio channels etc. This would be extremely useful for me. Thanks for your reply.1 point

It's not about outdated installations. It's just about having control over my system and picking a convenient time for me to update. Some features of emby server have been moved into plugin's lately, but the "no auto-update" function does not include them. I really feel there should be a simple way to deactivate auto-updates generally.1 point
