Hi. As Frostbyte mentioned, you can use the web app to arrange the order of your libraries. Press your user icon upper right and select "Home Screen". This will carry over to all apps for that user. The small buttons don't have images at all and there is currently no way to customize the colors. However, different themes will use different base colors for these buttons.3 points

Unless I'm being a bit blind (highly possible!), I'd love a way to hide a couple of the top green navigation items without hacking it in myself. For example, in Movies I don't want the 'Trailers' item to appear for any profile and for TV I don't need the 'Upcoming' nav link. Obviously not a major issue but thought it would be a nice thing to have, perhaps allowing them to be re-ordered like the home page items but again just a nice extra,2 points

By the way: Adblock Plus updated today and Emby was stuck with same screen in browser. Disable it for Emby and all is back to normal.2 points

The world is migrating to a service economy because hardware has become so cheap (relatively speaking) and the capabilities of that hardware such that you don't need to replace it very often that companies simply cannot sustain themselves by selling you a single, $200 product every 5-10 years.2 points

I'm going to try just "Cancel" along with a message when you press it and see how that does. Any text longer than that just starts to look very goofy.2 points

ATV lists the libraries on the Home Screen in the same order as the webclient for that user. There is no way within the app itself to change the order so you will have to use the server. . The only difference is that in TV mode most Emby apps will list them in columns vs rows.2 points

It will go in the first "/volume1/emby/plugins" as the second gets replaces with every server update.2 points

It’s not hard to implement from what I understand. I just don’t think apple TV is a focus for the team. They say it is, but the app is so far behind the Android based apps and the Roku apps it’s sad. We all know that Infuse saves us lol.2 points

I still don't understand why this is so hard to implement, even the Jellyfin cousin has implemented it, not glitching while remuxing HEVC content using classic iOS app: /usr/lib/****-ffmpeg/ffmpeg -fflags +genpts -i file:"/media/4k/****.mkv" -map_metadata -1 -map_chapters -1 -threads 0 -map 0:0 -map 0:1 -map -0:s -codec:v:0 copy -tag:v:0 hvc1 -bsf:v hevc_mp4toannexb -start_at_zero -vsync -1 -codec:a:0 aac -ac 6 -ab 640000 -copyts -avoid_negative_ts disabled -max_muxing_queue_size 2048 -f hls -max_delay 5000000 -hls_time 6 -hls_segment_type fmp4 -hls_fmp4_init_filename "98b65c4d2ef149d56fd0b74b6e9feaac-1.mp4" -start_number 0 -hls_segment_filename "/var/lib/****/transcodes/98b65c4d2ef149d56fd0b74b6e9feaac%d.mp4" -hls_playlist_type vod -hls_list_size 0 -y "/var/lib/****/transcodes/98b65c4d2ef149d56fd0b74b6e9feaac.m3u8" BTW the new iOS/tvOS version Swiftfin (in very early status) direct plays DTS without remuxing.2 points

Feature Request: Have User Groups and all settings applied at the Group Level That way you can just assign users to the appropriate Group and all settings will be inheritated.1 point

My apologies if this has been asked already. Could the Style tag in embedded music metadata be filterable in the Genre area? For example, I could select 'Electronica' within genres, and then a filter option would allow me to filter House, Disco, Trance... This could prevent genre cluttering for large collections1 point

please please please can we have the option to remove this folder tab from showing up, it is useless to anyone apart from the person actually putting the movie/tv shows/music etc together. when sharing with family and friends they are all confused on why this is here and for the older generation that dont deal in much tech they just want to have a simple navigation, having this confuses people and then makes it hard to explain to them each time. I choose this type of theme for everyone to use because it didnt have this bar on top and now this is also included along with every other theme. if it can be added surely it can have the option to be removed ?1 point

Thanks @FrostByte and @ebr - I had totally forgotten about and missed the "Library Order" feature/option within the User's settings through the web app. I totally missed it initially, as I did all of my configuring of the server and users first before creating my libraries, so it didn't catch my eye - oops! Sorry 'bout that, got it now though and am fixing up as I like1 point

Have you also checked the storage on your server just to be safe? A crash can be caused by a dB locking up due to either the bug in your version or a lack of storage (As I found out the hard way recently)1 point

Well before 4.6 there was no tone mapping so all hdr content was washed out when transcoded. So from a transcoding standpoint you have to choose if tone mapping gives that remote viewer watchable media. Transcoded h265 is converted to h264 with bitrate double (settings dependent) to maintain quality from the high compression of h265. But across the board there are many variables as high bitrate media has never been designed to be streamed via network. Just like streaming service media has not were near the bitrate of personal 4K media, usually a max of 25Mbps where personal media is 50-100Mbps.1 point

Yes we should probably add that inheritance. Thanks for the feedback.1 point

But it is a change, as my understanding is Horizontal view never had this tab and now it does on ET. I see this does not exist in a Browser on Horizontal view. So is this a expected change in behavior or not? @Luke1 point

Jellyfin is a joke and it all started because a stupid neckbeard got angry when Luke put a nag screen into the original software while it was under GPL. The "dev" hounded and hounded Luke for I believe over a year for the source code to everything that was open source, and even attempted to get the source code to the closed sourced apps. They did not like it when Luke told them no. Jellyfin like most FOSS projects is dependent on the community, and that community is filled with a bunch of lazy, give me my free stuff, users. There are some zealots who do it just for the thrill of open source projects, but the majority of users are people who just don't want to pay. As for Jellyfin ever become better than Emby, not going to happen, EVER. Over 90% of the code base is still Luke's, and they've had, what, 3+ years to changed that? It's obvious they have no ambition to be better, they just want to not pay for the devs' hard work.1 point

Yeah it's fixed for me. Thank you. Also, did I never notice this or does Emby Theater not downmix surround to Stereo? That is, when no transcoding takes place(i.e, a local file?). Any way to force downmixing? Also I have a weird thing where Emby Theater plays back local files are super low quality for no reason. Like it's trying to stream them or something. I have no option for "Original" Playback, just maximum.1 point

It looks like the Emby Web client has switch to using a brand new API endpoint: /emby/Users/{user_id}/Items/Resume EmbyCon does not use this at all. I think this all goes back to this discussion here: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/93221-4609-merging-continue-watching-next-up/ There was a lot of back and forward with that topic, I asked in the thread if this meant clients would need to change but got no response. The current way it works in EmbyCon is the way it always has, I am not sure I want to change it to be honest as change usually causes more problems than it is worth and I am used to it the way it is now. I may add a custom node creation tool to allow people to add their own filtering/sorting etc for custom widgets, I will look into this and see if this sort of thing would help in this situation. Being able to create you own widget query to the server specifying your own criteria might solve this for uses with specific needs.1 point

You can use mp3tag as you can add the mbz column and search via mbz also, but in the end what ever tag editing software you are comfortable with. Picard is more about working with albums and grouping the tracks to said album. Sound link you just need to something like mp3tag and load the music and sort the column and add info to the track missing info.1 point

Hope you enjoy your purchase. Sadly, I cant do anything to help with your first problem (someone on staff would obviously need to help you) --- but as for your second problem, I think I need more information about what you're doing. Let me throw this out first: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159110-tv-naming I think this article will give you the basis of what you're looking for, but it sounds like you may want to look at this article too: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001160108-folder-based-access-control --- Anywhoo, my questions' are to get a better sense of what your issues are: #1.) Do you have physical, in person access to the server. Is it on a Computer, Android like device or an NAS based system? #2.) Are you talking about organizing them through the Emby Interface or through your devices file system? It sounds like, to me, that you are trying to set things up remotely and thus mostly concerned with what the Emby Interface is showing/doing; but I'm unclear based on your question weather your file system on your device is squared away. I think the two links I provided you will help you figure these questions out, but if you need help; please try to answer the questions I asked and I'll see if I can help you.1 point

At least in the Browser I do not see a Folders tab in Horizontal mode. So @Lukewas folder tab added to Horizontal with the tab fix in ET?1 point

It was added over years ago. So what client did you not see it in? But yes it use to be broke in TV Mode. But there has never been options to hide any tab.1 point

@F1nchy There's a obviously an error in the channel rules evaluation. But if you also disable "All channel rules have to be TRUE", it should work for you.1 point

Interestingly, Google disabled the "uninstall updates" option from Android TV Home yesterday. I read this online, and sure enough I no longer have that function specifically for the Android TV Home system app. Seems that Google has more remote control of this product than I was ever aware. I'm jealous of everyone who's not bothered by this. It really infuriates me. I don't like the ads, but I REALLY don't like that Google forced this on my premium priced products (in my family's living room) years after purchase. Surely they could have added an option to disable, even if it's only available on premium products like Shield. It just feels like something between a slap in the face and a bait-and-switch.1 point

It doesn't download them but sets up links in Emby to follow and play the Podcasts. Emby essentially streams them to the clients from the location pointed to in the RSS feed. So you could have 100K podcast episodes running on a thumb drive.1 point

Did you set all your libraries to Mixed Content? If not there you have two choices remove and re-add all libraries or a file hack on each library. Change Library Content type1 point

We're paying professional software developers to write code for us. Most of them are not going to want user support in forums and social media added to their job responsibility. There are dedicated staff for different types of roles, and it is best to allow everyone to focus on doing what they do best. In fact, some of them move so quickly that we actually have cases of new features that are temporarily hidden because they are waiting on me to go in and review and then make it available for you all for testing.1 point

And with their Team I have not seen any improvement in my opinion. But this is still back to everyone will have their own opinion as there are users that prefer Plex.1 point
-
True but at the rate they are making changes to improve the core code and clients they are more like 5 to 6 years behind at least.1 point

I guess that is a matter of opinion but jellyfin is just a fork of Emby 3 years ago.1 point

At times I really wanna see what my server is doing to help troubleshoot things, would it be possible to have a rolling log screen instead of having to download constantly to see what is going on?1 point
-
Having two copies will always likely be the best solution if they were mastered that way. When you think about it what we are trying to achieve and do a great job is to process on the fly at faster than playback speed a lowering of resolution, a change of color space, color correction and adjustment as well typically of changing video codecs from a highly compressed HEVC version to an AVC version that roughly speaking has only 1/2 the compression of HEVC. All of that (just a brief overview) is taking place on a PC or NAS with a normal GPU assisting. There might actually be a couple of these taking place at the same time as well. Now compare that to a professional version prepared specifically for 1080 from film or high end video using equipment dedicated to these tasks. These often that takes months to engineer (often frame by frame) with both sound and color correction taking place as well as filtering to remove or bring out grain marks, etc. When you look at it that way it's remarkable how well many HDR->SDR 4K films tone-map to 1080 on the equipment we have available. But to try and hold onto the higher quality you can get from the 4K version you do need more bits than what would be needed by the profession version engineered specifically for 1080. Keep in mind this is the first server version to support tone-mapping so there is room for improvement down the road. One of the things that could be quite beneficial is delivering the media using HEVC vs AVC but that requires other substantial architectural changes that have already been started. So there is room for improvement but it's not simple and will take a bit of time to work out all the architectural changes needed.1 point

From a personal perspective I disagree about adding the extra level of grouping by artist... I want to get to the album as quickly as possible from the genre screen to be able to play it... So I suspect a change like this will definitely polarise opinions But the option of being able to sort the current view by Artist I see as a good option1 point

I would check your playback settings to see if this is limiting your playback and forcing transcode.1 point

Luke - I just looked on my Android 10 phone, and I don't see any way to edit the shortcuts that are provided by default (in my case Movies/TV/Downloads/Manage the Server). I would love to have a music shortcut for emby, but am not sure how to actually get it - any ideas?1 point
