We're paying professional software developers to write code for us. Most of them are not going to want user support in forums and social media added to their job responsibility. There are dedicated staff for different types of roles, and it is best to allow everyone to focus on doing what they do best. In fact, some of them move so quickly that we actually have cases of new features that are temporarily hidden because they are waiting on me to go in and review and then make it available for you all for testing.4 points

I just tested it and it's a TVDB issue. If you search for Fullmetal Alchemist the first response they give isn't the original series but instead Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. This is stupid and their search algorithm needs kicked Just add the year to your folder names and it solves the issue. The first result for 'Fullmetal Alchemist (2003)' is the original show. When I scanned a folder without the year in the folder name I reproduced @Dreakon13 issue. When I tried again with release years in the folder name it recognized things correctly.2 points

Hi I would really like to be able to send some custom notifications to my users For example, i would like to be able to send a notification like : -"What content would you like to see added on Emby this week ? https://www.strawpoll.me/#####" -"Blabla Season3 is coming next week !" -"Server will be down for maintenance tonight" A little notification icon on the top right corner would be awesome. I looked in the Feature Requests list but i did'nt find anything like that. Thanks for reading, and for this amazing software.1 point

When 'save artwork into media folders' is checked in a library of 'Movie' type (possibly others), new images get saved in the media folder for the main item, but not for extras associated with that item. I can't actually find the original extras images anywhere in the metadata folder. The only reference to them I can find is in the resized-images cache. I'm starting to get quite a few custom images for my extras and I'd like to avoid having to re-associate them all in the event something unfortunate happens.1 point

In order for an item to "belong" to multiple libraries, its folder must be of same level as the other "member" items, i.e. one library can contain \tv shows\star trek and \tv shows\friends whilst the other can contain \tv shows\friends only.; since your 'Friends' folder is a subfolder of your parent TV shows folder, it will not show in any other library where it is placed as separate entity. To have it shown as you would like to, you would have to remove your "tv shows" folder from your "TV Shows" library and add each series folder separately. Edit: And then make a separate library with 'Friends' folder alone. Edit 2 (upon testing): Another (and easier) way to do it would be to pull out 'Friends' folder out of 'tv shows' folder, add it to "tv shows 2" (or however you'd like to call it) folder and add that folder to your 'TV shows' library setup in addition to 'tv shows' folder.1 point

@LukeYes there is a issue when Removing a item for a Collection, as the <set> tag is not always removed so when the item is refreshed it is added back to the Collection if was removed from. Currently only see this in TV Collection. But have not tested all variables that apply to a custom collection in various content types,1 point
-
Looks like the server will save extras images to /metadata/library, so you would have to query the api to know exactly where the image is. But manually putting images next to the extra does get used (/movie (2021)/extras/filename-poster.ext).1 point

In theory opening the db in sqlite after Emby failed to close it properly should fail also but am not a db guy.1 point

That's confusing - why would there be TWO apps and one being a better experience? Sorry I've been in the tech industry for 30 years and that makes no sense to me at all? Can someone please enlighten me?1 point

Uh oh... the reverse problem now seems to exist. When I add a TV show to a collection, Emby adds a pair of <set> tags to the tvshow.nfo file, identifying the collection. However, if I remove a show from a collection, Emby does not remove the <set> tags from the tvshow.nfo file, and the show reappears in the collection after a metadata update!1 point

I absolutely agree. That's why I said it can be a curse. Having bad coders try and contribute can take more time and resources than not having them at all. There are free options, at least currently. I use the IPTVBoss guide data, even for my OTA channels and find it extremely accurate. But for less technically inclined people that would be a big draw for Emby or Plex.1 point
-
Except it usually never works out that way in theory or practice for a "clone/fork". It's really hard to attract great coders who will work for free putting in a couple/few hours every day without some monetary benefit. If this was some unique software with nothing similar to it then it's a different story because the only way to get what you need is by building it. But in the Emby/JF would it's different as JF is a nearly a 4 year old fork of Emby. JF was started by those who didn't want to support Emby with monetary funds. Now they need to work without charging and hoping for a few contributions here and there which sort of goes against how they started. Kind of Ironic! But the problem for them is that, many (not all of course) people would just spend the money on Emby instead to get the state of the art version of the fork with way better clients and more advanced features and support. Some of the funding they do get will be from people using JF for purposes Emby would not allow under the TOS. I know everyone is different but I can say I'd never personally jump into a fork and put in tons of time if I could get a lifetime license to the real deal for just over a $100 bucks as that's an hour or two of programming time! Making matter even harder/worse if if you use JF for TV/DVR as you would need to shell out $ for a 3rd party guide which could end up costing more than the Emby License. So they've sort of boxed themselves in to an extent on funding compared to many other software companies or open source projects.1 point

These are rolling out to the desktop app now and will be in the next Windows store update. New Tab Style A new design was needed in order to be able to remove the seven tab limit. Now you can scroll through all available tabs. Backdrops On Selection If you enable the backdrops display option, this is now supported on more screens as you select items. Enjoy.1 point

Seems to me like Plex is as corporate as something like this gets. A polished-to-death product with very little consideration of user feedback, focus on the bottom line, etc. Jellyfin is totally grassroots. Maybe they're great at turning things around, I dunno since I don't use it, but there's also way less expectations. A niche userbase in a niche market on free open source software, that is okay with having to tinker with things (and maybe even want to, to some degree). Emby falls somewhere in the middle, which IMO is perfect for something like this. You see way better support, flexibility and quicker turnarounds than Plex, and a more genuine approach to user feedback even if it doesn't always work out the way you want it to... but there's a method to the madness that leads to a functional product with every release and mostly meeting the expectations of a larger userbase that needs a certain level of stability and accessibility. That doesn't stop me from hoping Plex and Jellyfin both keep improving and push Emby to new heights though.1 point

Yes, MP3Tag extended tags show this. However I cannot just delete MusicBrainz tags in MP3Tag Extended Tags, as I said above. If I delete the value, the OK button greys out and I cannot save that change. I looked for a way to display MusicBrainz in the main panel but could not find it in options. I didn't try right-clicking the panel but will try it when it has loaded the 11000 tracks it is currently loading as part of Step 1 in your list OK, right click does nothing at all1 point

If you had never checked the option to pass the file path directly, I don't think you would have ever had an issue but I'm glad you got it working now.1 point
-
Okay, so you started out trying to setup this direct file access? And then that failing is what was causing your playback errors? This really wasn't necessary in order to get direct play .1 point
-
Okay, then what you are doing now is not going to have an impact on that. It isn't even going to try the file access unless the item can direct play. So we need to look at an example and determine why the items aren't direct playing.1 point
-
Just as a point of detail - this setup is not required for direct play of the files. All this does is change the delivery protocol of that file. Are you actually having an issue with the items not direct playing?1 point
-
Maybe on the server side, but on the client side they are light years away from Plex and Emby.1 point

True but at the rate they are making changes to improve the core code and clients they are more like 5 to 6 years behind at least.1 point
-
Hi, plex splits their server into multiple processes whereas emby does not, so you have to make sure to add up all of the usage of all of the processes.1 point
-
Perhaps a good solution would be changing this to check retaildate and then if empty use "Original Year' and only if that is empty default to "date." I agree that this is an annoyance, especially when MusicBrainz sets the date and original date correctly but Emby only uses "date" for sorting.1 point
